You’ve Got to Read This Poem About Western Fires Written by Missoula 16-Year-Old

A friend on Facebook sent me a message Saturday saying, that a “poem written by 16-year-old Missoula kid gave me chills this morning.”

The poem is about the hellacious Western Fires.

https://twitter.com/Jarhead44/status/906601120314703872

The kid gets it right, which is no small thing considering that the likes of Al Gore are treated as  scientists  by the public education system.

Naturally, the mainstream media get it wrong.

https://twitter.com/BReinlasoder/status/904681379421495296

The Washington Post  blames the fires, in part,  on a lack of money for federal fire fighting efforts. Maybe the east coast liberal reporters don’t know any better or choose not to report the truth.

The newspaper reports that “the United States on pace to exceed the average acreage burned annually over the past 10 years. Fires nationwide have consumed 8,036,858 acres — about 12,550 square miles, larger than the size of Maryland — since Jan. 1. In an average year, 5,516,000 acres would have burned through this point of the fire season, according to agency statistics.”

Hmmm, wonder why? They never answer that question.

As you may know, Montana has borne the brunt of the Western Fires with more than one million acres incinerated.

KRTV

The state has been on fire for months.

Two fire fighters have lost their lives battling the blaze.

In one short poem, this Missoula teenager (whom I’ve tried to get a hold of, so if you know him have him hit me up on my FB messenger or message here) gets it right and is able to encapsulate the radical environmental decisions that have led to the extraordinary size  of the fires.

Here it is:

“Wallow Fire”

by Carson Lee
Let’s return the forest to its natural state,
trust me boys this will be great!
We’ll shut down the loggers and cut back the cows,
this will leave more room for wolves and spotted owls.
We will build little roads for ATV’s,
and big old camps for boats and RV’s.
We will lift all restrictions of fire laws,
let no loggers in with axes or saws.
Yup, we are goin green that’s what they said,
send your cattle our way, we’ve got wolves that need fed!
We will put riparian areas for the elk to eat,
then make them cowboys keep our fences neat.
We will measure the grass, mark all the trees,
we will count all their cattle and collect our fees.
Those loggers make our forest bare,
make it look like a mans head that ain’t got no hair.
That’s what they said many years ago,
and in takin action they wasn’t too slow.
So the grass grew tall, the forest got thick
and cowboys and loggers, it made them all sick.
Now we sit here in a smoke covered town,
Forest Service trucks runnin’ around.
This coulda been stopped, but it wouldn’t be heard.
Those greenies didn’t listen, guess they’d rather it burned.
As humans we’ve failed to protect our land,
so Mother Nature stepped in and gave us a hand.
But it coulda been stopped by fallin some trees,
and that, I think, now everyone sees.
So there you go, it’s in its natural state,
but don’t cry now, it’s already too late.
You wanted a green forest, you wanted it seen,
well take a good look cause black’s the new green!
– Carson Lee

Well said, kid. Well said.

It’s Raining Ash in the Pacific Northwest & the Reason Why Is a Heartbreaking ‘Environy’

The Pacific Northwest’s fires don’t interest people for much the same reason that people in New York and D.C. don’t understand why Westerners like pick ups, SUVs and guns.

You’ll notice, however,  that those items have been front and center in the national debate for the last two decades, so you should probably listen up to what I’m about to tell you.

The conflagration enveloping forest land in Idaho, Washington, Oregon and points west would be a huge national story if the media told you the truth about them.

One complex of the Oregon fires is burning dangerously close to the jewel of the Columbia Gorge, the Multnomah Falls Lodge.

Multnomah Falls Lodge/Lynette Wyrick

But for going on three decades, the environmentalists who have been peddling the save-the-trees-owls-man-made-global-warming-cooling-a-mud-puddle-is-a-navigable-waterway  theories – the very people who tout “visiting the forest” in ads – have been setting the table for the devastation you see.

While photos like this one of downtown Portland, Oregon point up in heartbreaking detail the ash rains that haven’t been seen in these parts since the explosion of Mt. St. Helens in 1980, the photo also points up a big ‘environy,’  a word my old friend Jim Walker of Orbusmax, coined.

Social Media

The radical environmentalists who populate all of Oregon, Washington and the federal government’s highest echelons of government have worked tirelessly to destroy the logging and forest management industries. In fact, they’ve largely succeeded.

Former logging towns are ghost towns. Entire regions are on government welfare to make up for the private wealth the environmentalists destroyed.

But these so called environmentalists have destroyed much more.

Federal and state forests haven’t been properly managed because to do so violates the beliefs of the nuts like this who worships trees. Remember her?

Yes, logging companies in the past have clear cut and moved on with negative consequences. But good forest management practices no longer use this tactic because forest land that is privately managed considers forests what they are:  crops.

Because the Earth Firsters,  Earth Liberation Front and other domestic terrorist groups as well as their less radical allies in the Sierra Club have pressured government with their tree sitting, spiking and screaming, the forest land largely is not allowed to be salvage logged.

The radical environmentalists in government don’t allow the felled logs that occur naturally or after fires to be logged and sold. Put another way, environmentalists don’t want the garden weeded. Those ‘weeds,’ provide the dried out, diseased fuel that quickly burns.

Furthermore, Oregon doesn’t actually ‘fight’ fires anymore. Forests are largely allowed to burn up, though efforts are made to save homes … sometimes.

Large tanker planes that are used all the time in California wildfires are not used in Oregon because environmentalists don’t want whatever fire retardant to be put into the forests to pollute the streams.

And, as an alert reader pointed out, there’s the issue of “crowning,” in which fires quickly move from tree-to-tree in densely packed forests. Thinning the crop is a good thing, but the same people who think they invented community gardens and composting don’t consider forests in the same way. Maybe they’re too busy screaming at trees … or something.

You might not be convinced yet that these decisions are such a bad thing.

Ok, try this:

We are constantly told that the reason we have “man made global warming” is because there is too much CO2 in the atmosphere. Environmentalists contend, with good reason, that forests are wonderful ‘sinks’ in which CO2 is stored. That’s indisputable. You learned that in 6th grade science class.

But what happens when those forests catch fire helped along by all that dry underbrush and felled logs that were not allowed to be salvaged?

All of that CO2 is released into the air.

What happens to their man made global warming theories then? Their own forest policies argue against their “man made global warming” theories.

What happens with all that ash from the burned up wood? All of that ash is released into the air as pollution. The pollution that the trees were meant to clean up.

Where does that ash go? Into storm drains to pollute the streams. The same ones the environmentalists didn’t want the fire retardant in.

Falling leaves seem to be a bigger problem in  clogging storm drains than any fire retardant sprayed upstream over a forest fire would. But you don’t see environmentalists calling for deciduous trees to be banned. Weird, really.

In fact, the inescapable conclusion then is that forests need to be properly managed. Like the crops they are, forests need to be weeded and nourished and selectively harvested to mitigate the damage of forest fires.

Even this chick gets it:

Efforts must be made to “save the forests” by not letting them burn to ash, which pollutes the air.

Indeed, look at what the National Park Service considers the net gain of letting fires just burn, baby, burn:

Among the other benefits of prescribed burning are:

  • Insect pest control
  • Removal of exotic, or non-native, species that compete with native species for nutrients and other needs
  • Addition of nutrients for trees and other vegetation provided by ashes that remain after a fire
  • Removal of undergrowth, thereby allowing sunlight to reach the forest floor to encourage growth of native species
  • Encourage the growth of fire-dependent species

If it occurred to you while reading this short list of benefits looks an awful lot like managing forests, you win a lucite block emblazoned with “WINNER!!!” on it.

Environmentalists have failed at their forest ‘management.’

Their record speaks for itself.

The people who have been doing proper forest management for profit for decades – the ones who are left, I mean – likely have the best practices to lead the way.

It’s time to start listening to them again.

Video: Watch Strickland Attacker Ben Kerensa Urge Attack on Yet ANOTHER Citizen Journalist

“We got Nate Millsap right here!” came a voice in a sort of ‘up talk’ carnival barker’s cadence.

The voice is believed by Millsap to belong to the scarf-wearing, black bloc attired
Benjamin Kerensa and it sent a frisson of excitement through the pack of similarly attired … people.

Kerensa perjured himself on the stand multiple times  in the Michael Strickland case. He testified for the prosecution that  he wasn’t part of black bloc, that he never pushed or pulled Strickland to throw him out and that Strickland  drew his gun multiple times, among other obvious lies.

Indeed,  Kerensa, a multiple multi state and federal prisoner, bomb threatener, FBI impersonator,  hoaxer and hacker,  conspired with others to assault Strickland, to throw him out of a Black Lives Matter/Don’t Shoot PDX event nearly a year ago. Strickland was only videotaping the event.

The thugs roughed up Strickland  which Strickland’s still-quashed video demonstrates.

Those thugs became ‘victims’ in the eyes of the prosecution and Strickland was brought up   on 21 counts, ten of which were felonies. They could have landed Strickland in prison for more than 50 years. Strickland was sentenced to 40 days in jail when he was sentenced in May.

And Nate Millsap, also a witness for the prosecution,  took high quality video which showed the gang of thugs backing Strickland up and threatening him. Later, Millsap, realizing what his video showed, publicly came out in support of Strickland. All of those moves made him public enemy #1 with the black bloc crowd.

And that’s why they confronted him on Sunday,  as you can see from from Millsap’s own videos below:

“Fucking Millsap Get him the fuck outta here! GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE! GO BACK TO YOUR (unintelligible) GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE, NATHAN!

Millsap: “I’m here filming.

Mob: (unintelligible) GET BACK TO YOUR SIDE!

Millsap: “I’m not on a side! I’m here independently.

Black Bloc: “GET BACK TO YOUR SIDE!”

Millsap: “I’m not on a side, I’m here independently!

Black Bloc: “Get out!” (something is thrown at Millsap)

(laughs are heard)

Black Bloc guy starts chant, “Hey, hey, ho, ho this racist scum has got to go!”

What do we call black bloc ‘anarchists’ now? ‘Protester’ is too benign a descriptor. ‘Terrorist’ seems too harsh. They haven’t killed anyone … yet, although violence is clearly in their wheel house.

They bring weapons:

Members, who fancy themselves as anarchists then morph  to become ‘anti fascist’ – meaning anti anyone to the right of them,  continue to beat, shoot, assault, jump, punch, club, gas innocents and interrupt others’ lives by blocking roads, trains, freeways and bridges.

Like this guy who was beaten right in front of Millsap last Sunday by the – what do they call themselves again? Oh, yes “anti-fascists.” The same people who, like the brown shirts before them, dress in uniforms and take it upon themselves to be judge, jury and executioner of people who hold different political views.

And now Millsap has a target on his back,  just like Leo Stratton had before him and just as Michael Strickland did before them.

And the one guy who has been there every, single time is ‘victim’ Ben Kerensa.

YouTube

And look at him try to scamper out of Millsap’s view finder here:

Viral Video: Oregon Vet Ty Raddue Is Reunited With Key Vietnam War Memento

You may know Ty Raddue. He’s an irascible presence on Facebook and in Oregon politics.

You may also know that he’s had a very tough year. Besides fighting physical problems, his wife, Sandy, died mere months ago.

So it was that Ty’s son Zane put a smile on his Dad’s face by reuniting Ty with an emblem of his service for our country.

Zane explains:

At the beginning of this year, I ran across a posting in a Vietnam reenactors group on Facebook by someone in the UK looking for more info on a helmet he had recently picked up. In the pictures that were posted, you could faintly make out my fathers name written on the sweat band of the helmet liner.

After contacting the owner, he agreed to ship the helmet to me so I could give it back to my father, in exchange for a similar helmet. After a month or so of back and forth contact, and waiting for shipping both ways overseas, my father, a US Army Veteran who served in Vietnam from 1968-1969 was reunited with his helmet. At the time that it was given to him, he had no idea about this exchange, and it came as a complete surprise to him.

The story has been featured on MSN and other sites.

Nice reunion. See it for yourself below.

Trump EPA Transition Point Man Myron Ebell in Portland for Talk

Myron Ebell is one of the people I always go-to for expertise on climate/global warming issues. And at a time when the Trump Administration is considering pulling out of the Paris Accords pertaining to global warming, his viewpoint couldn’t be more timely.

The Oregon born, Competitive Policy Institute’s global warming expert, served as the Trump transition point man at the Environmental Protection Agency.

The left calls him a climate “denier,” but he likes to think of himself as a skeptic, you know, like science is supposed to be.

Climate fabulists bray that their viewpoints are based exclusively on science. It’s science all right: political science.

On Thursday, June 8th, he’ll be the guest of Cascade Policy Institute in Portland for a talk on what he’s been up to lately.

Sign up to go here.

When Former Oregon Governor Barbara Roberts ‘Flipped Off’ Reporter for Asking Her About Her ‘Buddy’, Accused Sex Offender, Terry Bean

While looking for other things the other day, I came across this 2015 video of a lefty videographer verbally going after former governor Barbara Roberts and Governor Kate Brown on the issue of their friend, millionaire Democrat money man and accused child molester, Terry Bean.

The gay activist and founder of Human Rights Campaign was acquitted of having sex with underage boys when the chief accuser failed to show up for court. Bean offered the boy $225,000 for the allegation to go away, according to the outraged prosecutor in the case.

At the time of this video (taken during the Rose Festival parade) in 2015, the allegations were still top of mind for many Oregonians. Though the guy didn’t know who Barbara Roberts was — seriously, he did cajole her into this moment:

Video: “Concerned Citizen” Leaves Car Shaming Note on Portland Man’s VW & ‘Suggests’ He Get Rid of It.

Video below: The car note is  another case of the “Keep Portland Weird” crowd attempting to define what’s appropriately weird for all.

KATU reports that over the weekend Rick Gencarelli received an anonymous note on his VW Tdi car urging him to get rid of it because VW was found cheating emissions standards and that his car was polluting “2-4 times a Chevy Suburban”.

Photo: Screenshot/KATU
Photo: Screenshot/KATU

The “sympathetic and concerned citizen of Portland” wrote in the thinly veiled threat that Gencarelli’s car was manufactured by a cheating car company created by the Nazis. Here’s what the History.com says about the Nazi claim:

“…[T]he government of Germany–then under the control of Adolf Hitler of the National Socialist (Nazi) Party–forms a new state-owned automobile company, then known as Gesellschaft zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagens mbH. Later that year, it was renamed simply Volkswagenwerk, or “The People’s Car Company.”

You’d think the you-must-obey-me-for-the-people likely socialist who wrote the note would be inclined to support a “people’s car company” founded by a socialist organization, but I guess the extermination of the Jews/holocaust made it into the consciousness of even this self-centered-self-important-we-know-better-than-you-simpering butt-insky.

Cute cat, but the car must GO! Photo: Screenshot/KATU
Cute cat, but the car must GO! Photo: Screenshot/KATU

Here’s what the note read:

“Hello, VW TDI owner. While cute, your TDI is outfitted with a cheating device meant to elude emission standards.

Your car is currently polluting at rates higher than nearly any modern gasoline car today.

Not to mention VW lied to you and the public, and was founded by Nazis 🙁 .

Perhaps it’s time to consider a different car. (Signed) A sympathetic and concerned citizen of Portland.”

Gencarelli posted the note on his restaurant’s Instagram account:

He posed a question to the writer of the note:

“I wonder if they would buy me a new car.”

Odd, that a person who would go to all the trouble to cut and paste that VW logo, use multiple colors and print the note wouldn’t bother leaving a signature to identify himself.

I imagine it won’t be the last time Gencarelli will be targeted by the left in Portland for his politically incorrect behavior. Get a load of the name of his restaurant: Lardo. Lardo has three Portland area locations. Good for him!

But I know two Portlanders put OUT of business in this town because the politically “correct” left didn’t like what they served or sold. Beware.

Signed,

A (Genuinely) Sympathetic and Concerned (Living Elsewhere) Native Portlander.

Donald Trump and the ‘No Fear’ Factor Makes a Big Impression on the New GOP Base.

“‘… [T]he base’ isn’t the limited, clichéd thing it once was, it’s becoming a big, broad jumble that few understand.”

Political writer Peggy Noonan recently took stock of the Donald Trump phenomenon and declared, “America is so in play.” Her buddies in the GOP glitteratti noticed.

Image Credit: Donald Trump For President
Image Credit: Donald Trump For President

Noonan cited the latest polls, an old friend from Ross Perot’s ’92 presidential campaign, a democrat-turned-GOP/Trump fan girl and the guy at the local deli from the Dominican Republic to conclude the New York businessman embodies the kind of gruff gravitas voters crave.

Trump’s campaign appears to be, as he is himself, a political stem cell, morphing into whatever seems to jibe with what’s in the news and the latest intelligence of the day. He speaks fearlessly, sometimes foolishly. Like a ‘Trump the Insult Dog,’ Trump has no filter.

He’s learning to campaign as he goes. He’s getting good at it.

GOP elites and Jeb Bush backers, but I repeat myself, counter with Trump’s leftist positions on Planned Parenthood funding, taxes, single payer health care — hoping that will tamp down his support with the base and make their own moderate positions on the same seem conservative by comparison. Ordinarily that would persuade many, but instead, Trump’s poll numbers are increasing!

Press coverage is following:

Noonan believes, after talking with the deli guy from the DR, that the base isn’t what it used to be:

“‘… [T]he base’ isn’t the limited, clichéd thing it once was, it’s becoming a big, broad jumble that few understand.”

Noonan opines the little people (that’s us) believe the game is rigged against them. But she claims we have company:

“…[D]eep down the elite themselves also think the game is rigged. They don’t disagree, and they don’t like what they see—corruption, shallowness and selfishness in the systems all around them. Their odd anguish is that they have no faith the American people can—or will—do anything to turn it around.”

Peggy’s old boss, Ronald Reagan, famously said,

“Don’t be afraid to see what you see.”

Here’s what ‘the base’ sees after they gave the GOP elites victories in 2010 and 2012:

  • Failed to repeal, replace or defund ObamaCare out of fear of being blamed for a government shut down or media reaction.
  • Failed to call out Hillary Clinton’s Suzie Homemaker server when they discovered it out of fear Democrat and media backlash.
  • Forfeited their constitutional job of advising and consenting on treaties which led to Iran deal for fear of not looking bipartisan.
  • Failed to lead on border security and the “broken” immigration system for legal immigrants for fear of being portrayed as bigots.
  • Failed to demand action against sanctuary cities for fear of looking anti immigrant.
  • Failed to stand for the rule of law against President Obama’s illegal executive orders for fear of being depicted as quixotic.
  • Failed to call out bad cops and stand up for good ones for fear of being called bigoted.
  • Failed to call for independent investigations with subpoena power— not just hearings —-on Benghazi and IRS spying scandal, a scandal so cynical and tyrannical it goes to the very core of democracy for fear of media backlash or pushback from Main Justice.

“Don’t be afraid to see what you see.”

Instead of flooding the zone with legislative leadership, media messaging and “getting in peoples’ faces,” as candidate Obama once advised, the GOP has been playing hide and seek behind the velvet curtains in their offices and considering us suspiciously through the cut crystal lens of their Calleija brandy snifters. Instead of leading, they shiver in the dark with vain hopes the media will say nice things about them. Instead of fighting, they’ve provided nothing but excuses or mocked or shouted down members who did try to fight back.

The former (you’re welcome GOP elites) Senate leader Harry Reid once disdainfully said of the Americans who tour the Capitol:

“I can smell the tourists.”

Since giving them the gavel and the big chair in the House and Senate, the GOP reaction to the people who put them in leadership has been akin to finding something sticky on the bottom of their Santoni wingtips.

The people Noonan says experience “odd anguish is that they have no faith the American people can—or will—do anything to turn it around,” missed the Tea Party, apparently. The people in whom they have no faith —the liberty-loving black, Hispanic, white, gay, straight, Christian, atheists of the Tea Party— were at first embraced and then dismissed by the GOP elites out of fear of looking too scary. But these are some of the same people who have put the country “so in play.”

Here’s what I believe people find refreshing about Trump and what distinguishes him from the GOP elite. It’s not only that he’s not afraid to tell his opponents he thinks they’re wrong. No. It’s that he’s not afraid at all.

Yes, It’s True. Oregon OK’s 15 Year Olds Getting Sex Change Ops Without Parental Consent

After getting another query about this, I’m reposting this piece I wrote for www.IJReview.com on Oregon’s  rules that allow 15 year olds to get sex change operations without parental consent and at taxpayer expense.

Photo: Wiki Commons
Photo: Wiki Commons

Teenagers as young as 15 years old can now get sex change operations in the state of Oregon without their parents’ consent — and at taxpayers’ expense.

Fox News reports Oregon Health Plan gatekeepers quietly changed the rules in January with no public debate:

With no public debate, HERC changed its policy to include cross-sex hormone therapy, puberty-suppressing drugs and gender-reassignment surgery as covered treatments for people with gender dysphoria, formally known as gender identity disorder.

The plan was discussed at four meetings and was passed without opposition.

The New York Times was the first to report the change in Oregon’s law. That story was highlighted by The Weekly Standard, whose reporter asked:

If Oregon’s political leadership thinks that 15-year-olds are so capable of making monumental decisions like getting sex reassignment surgery all on their own … surely someone mature enough … is capable of making responsible decisons about consuming beer, right?

The age of medical consent in Oregon is 15. However, that consent depends upon the topic. For instance, 15-year-olds in Oregon may not:

Political Vanguard: Why Jerry Brown’s Water Plan Isn’t Serious

California’s Problem of Long Standing is a Shock! Shock, I Tell You! to Pols in Sacramento.

Divining Rod - Photo provided by Victoria Taft

In response, our savvy Sacramento swashbuckling legislators have now taken out their mighty divining rods, put their ears to ground, put a wet finger in the air, assessed the political climate and determined that now is the time to rip up our lawns and shorten our showers — or else.

As any 5th grader can tell you, California is comprised of eleven different types of climates which can be simplified into four basic categories: Mediterranean Dry, Look at the Trees, Why Is it So Foggy Here, and, Hella Hot. The Mojave Desert is often the hottest place in the country in the summer. We’re in year four of a drought. But, as Tom Del Beccaro points out here in Forbes, we’re still ‘enjoying’ the wettest century California has had in 7,000 years. In short, the problem is not new.

The question then becomes, what have our elected leaders done about it?

Recently, lawmakers have spent time trying to put Sea World out of business, given money in energy grants to build solar arrays that make birds explode in mid-air — pfft! — incentivized people who aren’t even citizens of California (or the country) to come and receive ‘free’ stuff taken from taxpayers, and planned to spend $68 billion on a slo-mo train to nowhere.

Apparently legislators think money grows on the trees farmers haven’t been forced to rip out in the Central Valley for lack of water.

But instead of pointing at the budget priorities of the state he leads, instead of acknowledging the actual California climate, instead of wagging a reproving forefinger at the environmentalists who have driven the natural resources agenda which diverts water to bait fish over people, Governor Jerry Brown on Sunday blamed something else:

“I can tell you, from California, climate change is not a   hoax. We’re dealing with it, and it’s damn serious.”

Gov. Jerry Brown - Photo Credit Victoria Taft

… said the man who proposed the $68 billion choo choo but killed an $11 billion water storage bill proffered by State Senate Republicans in 2014 because it would ‘break the bank’.

Cue dead pac mac music.

Jerry Brown wants you to believe the cyclical California drought is new-and-worse-than-ever-and-how could he possibly have known?

Let’s go to the tote board where a cursory check of expenditures yields these figures used for water programs in just the last few years:

2006: $660 million (flood diversion)

2014: $870 million

2014: (voters) $7.5 billion (only $2.7b of which would be used for water storage)

2015:  $20 mil from Feds to farmers

2015: $1billion (including for food baskets for workers in the Central Valley who have lost their jobs due to environmentalists succeeding in diverting water it for the restoration of the ‘delta smelt’ and ruining farms.)

People rightly wonder why the expended billions have not resulted in new reservoirs and desalination plants either started or in the pipeline. That’s because water for people, while a basic function of government, has been taken for granted.

Conservationists have done magnificent things to improve air and water quality in California, but as environmental advocacy has turned into Big Green, they’ve also stood in the way of getting water to people. Under environmental law, individuals have standing to bring lawsuits against anything. The environmental review process takes years to navigate and lawsuits add time and expense. The private desalination plant in Carlsbad was subjected to 14 lawsuits, for example. At long last, notwithstanding attempts to kill it by environmentalists, the plant is coming on-line in the fall — just in time to deliver more water to people.

Environmentalists have overseen the removal of 12 dams in the state from through 2014 in an attempt to return rivers back to their wild state, but that also potentially means less water for people.

Government inertia is also responsible for lack of water. While Governor Brown promises he’ll fast-track water projects this time under his executive order, his administration still hasn’t put in motion half the projects from Emergency Drought Relief passed by the legislature last year.

California also loses 10% of its water from leaky pipes, according to state figures. Last week, 82,000 gallons of water spilled from Santa Clarita after a series of earthquakes. Last July, a water main break near UCLA sent 20 million gallons down the drains along Sunset Boulevard.

Conserving water is the right thing to do, of course. I’ve lived in California on-and-off since the 1980’s and conservation efforts have been a part of the message from water departments since then, if not before. This is California, after all.

Short showers, turning off the water while I brush my teeth, re-using dog water to water plants, low flow everything are just part of life for me. I took those habits with me when I moved back to Oregon, where water is plentiful.

But I have a solution to ease the pain for citizens subjected to Brown’s deputizing of the water police to go after lawn waterers, car washers and people with green lawns.  While Brown is ripping up the earth to put in the slo-mo train to nowhere, he can count it against the 50 million square feet of lawns he demanded be ripped out to conserve water.

That’s something at least.

IJR: Oregon Sheriff Explains Why He Won’t Enforce a Proposed Gun Control Measure Even If It’s the Law

The Josephine County, Oregon Sheriff Says He Can’t be Bothered to Enforce the Proposed Law

Sheriff-Dave-Daniel

One of my latest stories from Independent Journal Review:

An Oregon sheriff has voiced opposition to a proposed law that would require a background check on the private sale of guns. So, he just plans to ignore the law if it passes.

The Herald News Tribune reports that Josephine County Sheriff Dave Daniel repeated his position to a group of gun rights activists, saying the law doesn’t seem in line with the county charter.

Daniel added that the violation would only be a misdemeanor and that budget cutbacks don’t allow him to enforce such low-priority crimes:
