It was bad enough when the Portland Audubon Society declared that coyotes were simply part of the “urban landscape” and we’d just have to learn how to live with them. As a result there’s little political will to trap or kill the mangy kurs that will eventually become so enured with this area that they’ll probably start getting section 8 housing.
“They act like they own the place, which they kind of do,” said Michael Hunt, who sees four coyotes lounging in his yard nearly every day. “They’re all over the neighborhood.”
Hunt said he uses an air-horn to scare off the coyotes, but that they come back moments later. He’s worried the animals will eventually claim the area astheir territory and will attack his dog and 13-year-old daughter.
Cathy Molloy, who lives next to the burned-out home, took a video of seven coyotes in her yard.
“This is not normal,” she said.
“Coyotes are an issue all over Los Angeles, so it’s just something people in Los Angeles have to live with and have to learn to live with.”
“In general we do not trap or kill coyotes unless they’ve proven to be a danger. These coyotes are very docile. They haven’t been threatening or attacked people.”
