The Bureau of Labor and Industries chief who now has his eye on David Wu’s first Congressional District seat apparently seeks to change the way cab companies do business. And he’s using a sledghammer to do it. He’s fined Portland based Radio Cab $341,000.00 because Avakian wants cab drivers to be employees and not free agents or leasees.
I had a Radio Cab executive on the program yesterday to talk about it. Watch this space for the interview.
Wow you can demand a wholesale change of business plans with one fine?
Radio cab’s business director tells me they can’t afford to pay it.
This move seems positively Kroger-esque. I don’t know the entire context of this caper right now, but this is the way it looks to us. We’ll try to get Avakian on to explain it.
