This is beyond Where Were You When?

Today on the VictoriaTaft.com blog I’m rolling out contributions about 9/11 from my regular contributors Lew Waters on the divisions that remain in America and Rees Lloyd on this sneak attack similar to Pearl Harbor. Planner, Rich Carson, looks at Portland’s readiness to confront an attack considering its current priorities.

Time Magazine has done a wonderful job of getting the oral histories from some of the major players–including President Bush–which I’ve linked up here. They are MUST LISTENS.

In his book Mastermind, Richard Miniter describes what the plotters were doing while Americans were jumping out of World Trade Center towers, preferring that death over the one that waited for them inside a cloud of flaming jet fuel. (hear my interview with Miniter here at :45).

On this day ten years ago, Khalid Shaihk Mohammed and his band of madmen including bag man Ramzi bin al Shibh, money man and leader Osama bin Laden and others, crowded around a small television set at 3:48pm Kandahar time. This was unusual at the training camp. Television in the middle of the day? Unheard of.

By four, they were crowded around the television set, which was rep.aying reports that a plane had struck a World Trade Center tower. The brothers shouted, “Allahu akbar!” and were deliriously happy, according to bin al-Shibh. …

We said to them: “Wait, wait,” bin al Shibh told his interrogators. “Suddenly our brother Marwan [the pilot] was violently ramming the plane into the Trade Center in an unbelievable manner! Were were watching live and praying: “God…aim…aim…aim…'”

Ten years later those men are either dead or in Gitmo. Two of them had been waterboarded. Because of those interrogrations US intelligence became aware of the name of bin Laden’s courier. The courier led our J-Soc forces to his home.

Amid his pigsty of a home where he held himself prisoner;  amid his porno tapes and wives, US Special Forces arranged for Osama bin Laden to meet his 72 virgins.
