The man who went to a SE Portland bar a week ago Friday and was beaten by Portland Professional Protesters™ while wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat went to another bar before the beating and got into a shouting match with patrons there.
Now Antifa and “The Oregonian” newspaper think they’ve unearthed a “gotcha!” moment.
KPTV and Gateway Pundit report that Luke Lenzner was on a date night with his wife and walked into Growler’s Taproom on SE Hawthorne in inner SE Portland in the early hours of August 17th. The bartender told him they weren’t serving anymore so Lezner left. As he did so, surveillance tape shows he pointed to his hat.
Apparently, that red hat was just too much for Portland Professional Protesters™ who met Lezner out on the side walk, “circled him,” attacked him and then cold cocked him. Lezner told KPTV: “I got mobbed by everybody that was in that bar outside. People came from the inside out – just circled me and my wife.”
After the beating and the understandable outrage over the beat-down, including a hate-rain on Antifa, “The Oregonian” ‘found’ a video that the reporter obviously believed provided more context to the story about the tap room beating.
It seems Lenzner and his wife went to another bar before going to the tap room. At “The Vern,” Lenzner was seen yelling at customers:
The video shows an outburst by Lenzner – and a boorish one at that. He yells at patrons who lustily yell back at him. But notice where the 1:18 video starts. It starts after Lenzner starts his braying.
“The Oregonian” reported that the man who took the video, Michael Radosevich, “locked eyes” with Lezner [sic] and believed he was “looking for a fight”:
“The second I locked eyes with him there was no doubt in my mind he was looking for a fight,” Michael Radosevich told The Oregonian/OregonLive on Tuesday. Footage captured by Radosevich shows the man hurling expletives and pointing at people inside The Vern on Friday night while claiming he served in the military and had been disrespected.
Maybe he was looking for a fight and didn’t get one. Doesn’t it make you want to know what happened before his outburst?
The Oregonian doesn’t, else that line of questioning would have been pursued and included in its post.
Antifa surely does not care what happened before.
After all … the hat…
Portland Antifa members and allies (forget deleting them, boys, I have them screen capped) reacted to the video by saying Lenzner deserved the beat down:
“Guy goes to a bar to troll people and gets beat up [sic] Well [sic] maybe he should have went [sic] to a bar to troll people [sic] Can’t really have sympathy for people looking for fights that get them [sic] That’s like having Sympathy [sic] for the school bully when he gets checked [sic]”
Antifa allies (or members) waxed psychological about the possible underpinnings of Lenzner’s actions which resulted in his beat down at the hands of Portland Professional Protesters™:
They believe Lenzner went on a date night with his wife to pick a fight. Let’s assume they’re right for a second. No fight occurred at “The Vern.” Lenzner was boisterous and called out the customers, at one point actually lying about his ‘military service (he’s not a veteran),’ for which he apologized later.
I’d love to know what happened before his outburst.
Then, Lenzner went to the tap house with his hat on and was beaten by Portland Professional Protesters™ who have been arrested at protests before.
Over the years, I’ve interviewed some pretty spectacular guests. Vincent Bugliosi, who prosecuted Charles Manson, and Andy McCarthy, who successfully prosecuted the terrorists who tried to blow up the World Trade Center in 1993, have both presented me with strains of the same question, which I think is pertinent now:
What would it take to get you to [murder/commit and act of terrorism/beat up a guy in a MAGA hat]?
And that’s the question left unanswered by this video, the patrons and even Mr. Lenzner.
The answer should be that it would take nothing to get you to beat up a guy with a MAGA hat.
If Lenzner went to troll people at a bar on Friday night, that’s uncivil and not nice. It’s boorish, inadvisable and the height of douchebaggery.
Things have deteriorated to such an extent in Portland these days that people don’t even stop to ask the question. And that didn’t start with Lenzner.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler should condemn what happened to a man in a Portland bar a week ago Friday. However, the ‘leader’ who has given Antifa a pass while condemning ‘right wing’ protesters with a full blown civic gaslighting, is unlikely to do so.
KPTV and Gateway Pundit report that Luke Lenzner was on a date night with his wife and walked into Growler’s Taproom on SE Hawthorne inner SE Portland in the early hours of August 17th.
Lezner told KPTV:
“I got mobbed by everybody that was in that bar outside. People came from the inside out – just circled me and my wife.”
They surrounded him like jackals:
“Surrounding me, like literally surrounding me, pushing me. I’m just trying to get through, trying to stop the person from hitting me, from taking my hat, and then I get sucker punched,” Lenzner told FOX 12.
The two arrested are no strangers to Portland police, either.
The two perps, 22-year-old Leopold A. Hauser and 23-year-old Adebisi A. Okuneye, were hunted by police after Lezner gave him their license plate number.
The cops know Hauser from a 2018 scrape with the law involving an Antifa riot and Okuneye was last arrested in another Portland protest in 2017 involving Black Lives Matter and Antifa.
It makes you wonder a few things.
Is Portland safe for Republicans or Trump supporters anymore? Portland’s
Can a guy with a Trump hat even get a beer in this town anymore without getting beaten up by Antifa?
As he told the gathering before the planned Proud Boy, Patriot Prayer march August 17th, “violence is not a civil right.”
Wheeler would do well to remember that his demonized ‘right wingers,’ once again, had nothing to do with this act of violence and the violence that occurred had to do with a man wearing a hat – an act protected by the First Amendment.
Leftist leadership allowed this bigoted institutionalized balkanization. This is what you call institutionalized bigotry.
Now, what are you going to do about it, Mr. Mayor? If past is prologue, the answer to that question is … nothing.
Portland Police rolled up 13 Leftist Antifarioters who came to clash with ‘Patriot Prayer’ and ‘Proud Boys’ demonstrators at a planned demonstration by the right-wing groups on August 17th.
Before the August 17th event, which saw plenty of illegal and disgusting behavior by the Antifa protesters, Mayor Ted Wheeler condemned the right-wing groups, dismissing them as hateful outsiders who didn’t ‘belong here.’
He said nothing about the far Left Antifa, whose antics have cost Portlanders their safety as well as millions of dollars to clean up after them.
So feeble has been Wheeler’s response that he couldn’t even bring himself to ban Antifa’s masks, something that Police Chief Danielle Outlaw asked him to do.
Now what are Portland Police are reduced to? Asking for help to identify people with masks over their faces.
Sure, guys, we’ll get right on it.
Portland police also asked for help in identifying this person next to the guy in a mask:
This regular Antifa member was last seen spitting on Patriot Prayer founder Joey Gibson at the Cider Riot! clash. As I reported, Gibson was the one charged with riot for his behavior. Her assaultive behavior was never charged.
Nice ‘burqa,’ ‘lady.’
You may remember that in Michael Strickland’s case, eight of his ten “victims” who attacked him couldn’t be identified because they were masked. Nevertheless, the Multnomah County District Attorney counted them as victims anyway and issued two felonies each on behalf of each of Strickland’s victims. Charges that could have put the man in prison for 50 years. His conviction for drawing his legally concealed pistol at his attackers (no shots were fired) is on appeal. See a variety of the stories about him here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here … there are lots more. Just do a search on this site.
Now the police need help identifying these people … because Ted Wheeler won’t order them unmasked.
An Oregon man has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Portland and Multnomah County after he was the one arrested when his vehicle was attacked by Antifa and Black Lives Matter protesters on Halloween 2018. None of the protesters was arrested.
Mark Dickerson was trying to find a parking spot in downtown Portland. As he drove slowly along 4th Avenue, Dickerson was blocked by Black Lives Matter and Antifa members. As they parted to finally let him through, a man, who couldn’t be seen behind the group, intentionally backed into his vehicle.
Watch the video, which was posted on Dickerson’s GoFundMe page and depicted as an “insurance scam,” which it most certainly could be.
Protesters attacked his car with fists, sticks and protest signs. And, as I noted in my previous post about this case yelled hateful epithets at Dickerson:
“Yah, you little white little fucker! You’re a little whitey aren’t cha? … Just please turn right … You are a little whitey supremacist! … we don’t need your KKK … you fucking hit me right now, I’ll beat the shit out of you.
When he slowly moved forward as the protesters parted, Dickerson was obviously concerned about the protesters to his right and claims not have seen this man intentionally back into his car until he did it.
Dickerson got clear of the protesters and then stopped when he saw police coming to his aid. Or so he thought. In fact, Dickerson was the one arrested for the incident.
Earlier in October of 2018, another man was chased and his car pummeled by Antifa and Black Lives Matter protesters. Portland police stood by and did nothing. It’s entirely possible Dickerson was in fear for his life when he found himself in the same predicament.
As I reported at the time, a Multnomah County judge – shockingly – tossed out the case against Dickerson when the man who intentionally walked into his truck failed to show up to court to testify against him.
It’s entirely possible that Arthuray Dudley, reportedly the brother of a man killed by Portland police who was the subject of the protest, didn’t want to set foot in a Multnomah County courtroom because he’d seen enough of them:
Arthuray, it turns out, far from being a ‘victim’ as he told KATU in his attempt to sell a ‘hands up, don’t shoot’ narrative –
– is a longtime Portland cocaine runner. Arthuray was arrested multiple times in 2010, again in 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2018.
Dickerson, whose wife claims has never had a scrape with the law, wants his life and reputation back.
Dickerson had to sell his beloved horse to help get the $10,000 to hire a defense attorney for his criminal trial.
Not being a wealthy man, he’s mounting his own legal case against both the City of Portland and Multnomah County for false arrest, civil rights violations and malicious prosecution. He’s asking for a minimum of $500,000 in damages.
It’s going to be an uphill battle. This guy needs an attorney.
There he was, Ted Wheeler on “Fox News” mayorsplaining that Portland does not “tolerate” ‘violence” or “vandalism” at protests.
For anyone who’s watched the Portland’s Professional Protesters™ over the years this was new intelligence. After the initial burst of incredulous laughter, one seriously had to wonder where Ted had been all these years.
Presumably, the man who’s served on the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners and statewide office, remembers history, even on his own watch as Portland’s top elected official. Is it possible that he could have missed May Day violence – any May Day – in Portland? Had he forgotten anarchist violence and vandalism on any given day? Did he honestly not remember attacks by Antifa in the days after election day? The violence? The vandalism? Remember the trail of violence along Hawthorne all those years ago? The threats? Screaming animal ‘rights’ protesters putting Portland taxpaying companies out of business? Photos of blown up SUV’s set afire by the eco protesters? Surrounding OSU researcher homes and threatening their lives? Broken windows at the GOP HQ? Did he not remember the unprovoked attacks on Michael Strickland and Andy Ngo? Did he honestly not see Antifa protesters and Black Lives Matter protesters blocking traffic and chasing an elderly man down the street? Has he forgotten about local jihadis and “The Family?” The Occupy IED’s? Assault on the cops?
I’ve been quite seriously covering the Portland Professional Protesters™ for nearly 20 years. Ted Wheeler apparently missed it all. Maybe his head’s been down the overflowing toilet at Occupy Portland all this time … ?
Wheeler blamed the “far right” for apparently all problems on the Portland protest scene:
We’re seeing a rise in hate speech and in intolerance, in division, in racism. And all of these things are coming to a head. … We’re seeing more people from the far right, including white supremacists, white nationalists, neo-Nazis and others that are coming to Portland because they know that there will be a conflict. And that’s what they want, they want conflict … and in
Oh, look. Here’s Antifa. That’s a lead weight in one guy’s hand a double brass knuckles on the other guy’s hands.
When interrupted by the host who asked if Antifa bore any responsibility for this violence (duh), Wheeler shrugged off Antifa’s violent past and stuck with his story that all the violence comes from out of state protesters.
Host: “Well, what about Antifa’s part in that though it’s not as if Antifa’s not looking for a fight I mean you don’t see them as equally to blame in this …?”
Wheeler: “Look it, again, when it comes to enforcement of community standards. We support peoples right to demonstrate. We support peoples’ rights. It’s about enforcing the law and that’s what we’re going to do.
Wheeler seems to be saying that Antifa is part of Portland’s progressive culture and the ‘outsiders’ are here to cause conflict. He seems to think that anyone who takes issue with Antifa is “intolerant” or worse, white nationalist etc. This is interesting. There’s more diversity in Patriot Prayer than in Antifa.
With this white wash interview, Wheeler showed he will ignore Antifa and its violence and embrace this far Left socialist group’s attack on speech.
Updated with more video from Stumptown Matters and photos.
The Multnomah County DA’s office has charged the leader of the Patriot Prayer group, Joey Gibson, with “riot” for initiating a riot with riotous behavior, which resulted in no riot on May 1, 2019. Got that?
The charge issued against Gibson on Thursday appears to be a shot-across-the-bow timed to do somethingeven if it’s wrong before the planned march by conservative groups in Portland on Saturday. Either that or someone’s sniffing glue at the DA’s office again.
Gibson’s attorney, James Buchal, issued a statement about the charge, accusing the DA of rushing to get Gibson without evidence and without going to a Grand Jury:
The District Attorney claims that Mr. Gibson committed the crime of “riot” (ORS 166.015), which requires proof of “tumultuous and violent conduct” by Mr. Gibson.
Buchal implied that the hasty way in which the District Attorney’s office went after Gibson again demonstrated Portland’s two tiered system of justice: One for Antifa and one for everybody else:
[B]y arresting only one side of the alleged “riot,” the District Attorney of Multnomah County is by all appearances acting as a special prosecutor for Antifa.
Buchal chided the DA’s office saying that this charge must be the result of a “website malfunction:”
Today an alleged website malfunction at the office of the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office has revealed that the District Attorney (without waiting for his grand jury to indict), has rushed to file criminal charges against Mr. Joseph Gibson. The District Attorney claims that Mr. Gibson committed the crime of “riot” (ORS 166.015), which requires proof of “tumultuous and violent conduct” by Mr. Gibson. There are multiple videos of the events at Cider Riot, and not one of them shows Mr. Gibson engaging in violent conduct.
Well, I spent way too many hours on Thursday going through and transcribing Gibson’s own livestream video from May 1, 2019 and Buchal’s right. The only ‘riot’ that occurred that day was in the name of the Antifa bar at 8th and NE Couch called “Cider Riot!
The only thing that could be remotely described as ‘provocative’ was Gibson showing up to the Antifa’s hangout.
You may think that’s the dumbest idea in the world, and I get it, but there’s actually no law against walking over and talking to people hanging outside a bar. No, really. Buchal said as much in his statement when he said that the DA’s office is having a very difficult time separating what’s free speech from riot:
These charges represent a total failure of the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office to distinguish between violent conduct and the exercise of First Amendment rights.
Gibson was pepper sprayed repeatedly and spat on several times by masked Antifa thugs who did so on the Cider Riot! premises and onto the public sidewalk.
Buchal noted as much in his statement:
Mr. Gibson was repeatedly pepper-sprayed and spat upon by violent members of Antifa, none of whom have been arrested or charged for their conduct on May 1st. It is not as though the government is ignorant of the identity of the Antifa combatants; even now, the Oregon Liquor Control Commission refuses to release an investigative report about Cider Riot that Mr. Gibson requested long ago, which should identify other combatants.
And after she was de-masked.
I know it must be surprising to hear that Antifa layabouts and their confused part-time anarchist alter-egos patronize a place started by capitalists when so many of these lawless thugs do no more labor than lifting other peoples’ facile slogans while pretending to slay Nazis.
As Gibson walked up to the establishment he was met with a hail of pepper spray, spit and “get the fuck outta heres” by the, ahem, the self-described heroic ‘anti‘ Nazis.
He told them:
You guys are Nazis. You won’t even let a brown man [Gibson] exist on a public sidewalk? You guys are Nazis! You guys are the fascists. You can fucking walk anywhere you want and I will never stop you. I believe in the First Amendment, the Second Amendment.
Do something! More, more, [sound of spraying from Antifa inside the property line of Cider Riot onto the public sidewalk] more pepper spray.
Gibson walks away flashing the peace sign, demonstrating that he’s leaving. Then looks at the camera and predicts, “Shit’s about to go down.” It almost did until Gibson got Antifa to go along with his plan to stop it.
Here are my notes and some of the transcribed comments from what transpired next:
Walking away from Cider Riot he sees Antifa members or allies (same thing) threatening one of his guys and Gibson says, “Hey, do you want us to leave or not?! We will go! We will go! Do you want us to leave or not? “
As they’re leaving, Antifa apparently takes a swing at one of his guys and Antifa allies start to pounce on the pair. Gibson implores Antifa to stay away and “Let ’em fight! Let ’em fight! Let ’em fight! No! Hey walk over here and fight it’s mutual combat. That’s their right! Hey, no hey put your weapon away! Put your weapon away! Hey, hey! It’s mutual. If they want to fight let ’em fight.
The friend of Antifa says, “That’s not a law in Portland. I’m just telling you man, that’s not a law in Portland.”
Some Antifa guy who’s been watching looks at Gibson with his hands out saying something indistinguishable and Gibson responds, “Well, we’re not going to get involved!” He yells to the Anifa guy who had been involved in jumping one of his guys, “Hey!
Tells Antifa to stop.
Gibson implores his guys, “No one jump in! No one jump in! Let the men handle it! It’s mutual. It’s mutual. It’s better that two guys go down than all of us. This is the way it’s supposed to be. You don’t cheap shot people. This is the way it’s supposed to be. This is the way it’s supposed to be. Just two men fightin’!”
Then within a couple minutes the Antifa guy gives up.
Gibson declares “ok he’s out, he’s out. You quitting’ or are you in?”
The masked Antifa guy reengages.
“This is two fucking men fightin'” says Gibson says. Gibson declares during the shadow boxing and the Antifa guy kicking the patriot prayer guy, “My face is burning right now [from pepper spray], just so everybody knows.”
Says off the side to someone, “Hey back up a little bit. Back up you got the weapon. Back up.”
The PP guy backs up and trips on his feet sending him to the ground. Gibson immediately starts slapping five with the masked Antifa fighter and friends saying “Good job, good job. I like that man, I like that. Holds out a fist for fist bump with the Antifa guy. “hell yah, hell yah, we’re out. That’s what I’m talking about. Tells his guys, “let’s go, let’s go, let’s go.
Gibson talks to the camera, “Two guys fighting like men. Instead of running around and punching people behind their back. Like fucking men. Now we’re gonna leave like real men.
As they leave Antifa spoils for another fight and one of Gibson’s ‘racists’ who’s black, tries to engage but Gibson wrangles him and then berates him for touching a woman on the way back. Berating him for escalating.
Gave the other guy an atta boy for getting in the ring and says it deescalated everything. “We got a truce for the night.”
Here’s another view with the presumed “riot” at toward the end. Make sure you check out these two (pictured) toward the end. That strap-on the Antifa guy has is a lead weight while his buddy has on two sets of brass knuckles as they chased Gibson and company down the street after an Antifa member was knocked down. I’m pretty sure the Multnomah County DA’s office will overlooked any illegal weapons used by their friends in Antifa.
Sure, Gibson came to Cider Riot! to antagonize Antifa and to show their hang out. Is that against the law? Is that inciting riot? Gibson could have engaged in riot, but didn’t. Instead of engaging in “riot,” Gibson de-escalated what was a precarious situation. To Antifa’s credit, they went along but only for awhile as you see on the video directly above. Once again, Gibson de-escalated it. He didn’t commit the act of “riot.”
You may dislike Gibson’s approach. I know I have my problems with it. But Gibson’s antics flush out the modus operandi of Antifa. Every time.
As Buchal said:
These criminal proceedings are part and parcel of the dishonest campaign by Portland leaders to blame out-of-town demonstrators for violence that began and persists because Antifa wants to shut down any right-wing demonstrations in Portland. Antifa publicly asserts its insistence on shutting down these demonstrations by any means necessary, and to date, nearly all the perpetrators of Antifa violence have escaped justice.
If Mr. Gibson’s conduct on May 1st constitutes “riot,” so does the conduct of thousands of peaceful demonstrators who have appeared on the streets of Portland standing near violent Antifa members. The District Attorney’s decision to destroy constitutional protections against free speech by charging a peaceful protester with a crime of violence makes this a dark day for the rule of law in Oregon.
Whenever Antifa shows up there’s violence. When they don’t show up there’s none. This time Gibson and company, a multi-ethnic group of men who are constantly berated by Antifa as “racists” and “nazis,” held back his guys – and the (lily white) Antifa – while one Antifa provocateur was given his wish to fight one Patriot Prayer guy. And one of his guys pushed a woman at the end, Gibson did not engage in any violence. Indeed, armed Antifa antagonizers chased Gibson and company away.
That’s not “riot.” And that’s just something that the Multnomah County DA’s office – filled to the brim with Portland Leftists – can’t accept.
In a Portland courtroom today, videographer Mike Strickland was forced to defend his right to literally speak the namesof the people who conspired to get him thrown out of an Antifa & Black Lives Matter march and rally in 2016. This time the good guys won.
The people who conspired to get Strickland thrown out of a Black Lives Matter/Don’t Shoot Portland rally and march in 2016 set in motion two physical attacks on Strickland.
Here are two of his attackers. Nice stick ya got there.
When a group of thugs came back to finish off Strickland he drew his legally concealed pistol to back off them off. No shots were fired, but Strickland, not the thugs who attacked him, was prosecuted and jailed. His Antifa attackers were miraculously changed into ‘victims.’
You can call this ‘Portland Justice,’ where Leftist ‘protesters’ from Domestic Terrorists Earth First, anarchists, Earth Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front to Black Bloc/Antifa are allowed to vandalize, disrupt, chase cars, ‘direct’ traffic and assault while the law abiding are expected to be their willing and complicit collateral damage. City Hall and institutional Portland are their willing stooges.
At trial, Molina believed Antifa’s lies about Strickland being a “white nationalist” (sound familiar?) and, without evidence of such an absurd notion, got a judge to add felony charges to the two misdemeanors. In February 2017 he was found guilty on all charges. Strickland stood to go to prison for 50 years. Antifa, with the help of Portland prosecutors and police, had successfully silenced him.
Strickland served 41 days in jail. His gun rights, ability to make a living, First Amendment and Second Amendment rights were stripped from the video journalist.
Today in court, the DA Kate Molina, the prosecutor with the magic beans who transfigured Antifa thugs into Strickland’s ‘victims,’ did Antifa’s bidding again by arguing that yet another First Amendment gag order be added to Strickland’s probation to shut him up about naming one of the conspirators against him: Ben Kerensa. The initial complaint also sought to get “third parties” to stop using Kerensa’s name. That would be me presumably.
‘He Who Shall Not Be Named’ is a multiple felon, having done multiple stretches in federal and state prisons, for, among other things, calling in a bomb threat on a major Silicon Valley confab in San Francisco, impersonating police and FBI officers, among other things.
He called in a bomb threat to the Moscone Convention Center. The entire place, including the thousands assembled for Oracle World as well as other conventioneers, were evacuated.
And it wasn’t a one-off. While San Francisco Police told me the reports from the incident were difficult to get their hands on, an article on the bomb threat at the time made clear that Kerensa was a pro at this.
Kerensa made threats to his former employer, the AMC 1000 Theater, the Moscone Center, a building at the UN Plaza, a federal building and the Navy vessel, the USS Cleveland. And he did it all from the mayoral candidate’s office [where he was ‘volunteering’ and living in the office space]…
Now after doing time and moving to Oregon and becoming part of the hacking and far Left protest culture, the felon and fabulist is believed by many protest watchers to be an informant to the Portland Police Bureau. When you’re pretending to be a police officer and FBI agent as Kerensa has, it stands to reason why he’d want to curry favor with officers. Maybe this is why Kerensa has found such a friend in Portland prosecutors.
Kerensa’s plea to keep Strickland from speaking his name fell short, however, as much as DDA Kate Molina tried to help her Antifa ally.
See how Multnomah Probation officials tried to get Strickland’s probation dependent upon “third parties” (me) to shut up about Ben Kerensa:
Shockingly, the same judge who convicted Strickland refused to grant Molina and Kerensa’s request to shut him up. Strickland still is not allowed to video or report on any of Portland’s protests, which provided his livelihood on his popular YouTube channel called “Laughing at Liberals.“
Strickland made this video after the proceeding. You’ll note that he doesn’t use Kerensa’s name so as not to inflame the political prosecutors and probationers who have eight more months to make his life a living hell.
If you live in California you’re well aware of the overwhelming homeless issue. Homeless camps have sprung up seemingly out of nowhere. In river beds in the shadow of Angels Stadium. In the tinder dry hills homeless campers fire up their grills, putting nearby home owners at risk during fire season. The beaches are the daytime homes for droves of people who occupy the park space near the public beaches. In Oxnard, a homeless encampment has sprung up on an “environmentally sensitive” area, but they haven’t been driven out or been subjected to screeching environmental activists.
I don’t need to tell you about San Francisco. You’ve probably seen it on TV. I’ve seen it for myself. You may have too. Those people need help and I have ministered to them as well as involved myself in the Southern California homeless issue. That’s not virtue signaling, that’s just telling you that I know what I’m talking about.
But California is home to 25% of the nation’s homeless. These folks aren’t all native Californians. Why is California such a destination?
On Friday, I talked about this on One America News Network’s “The Daily Ledger” where I’m a contributor. Fill-in host Alex Salvi asked me about the homeless, gun bans and the movie “The Hunt” among other issues in my regular “Crazy California” segment.
Adding to the homeless problem are high housing costs in the area. Rents are ridiculous. There is a net outmigration in LA and Orange counties because of these high costs and other problems in California, including bad schools. But even more ridiculous is the state and local government indulgence in lawlessness. We’ve seen people shooting up drugs on the street, in BART stations and in homeless camps. It’s illegal.
Instead of treating homeless people with the “soft bigotry of low expectations,” make these people tow the legal line as the rest of us must. Then, we’ll be able to get back to better identifying the people who truly want and need help.
Politics doesn’t kill people, people – sometimes crazy people – kill people, and I tried to keep that in mind in my piece yesterday about the Leftist views of both mass murderers over the weekend. I tried not to pile on in the facile way as happens so often. Here’s part of what I wrote:
In Dayton, where the killer murdered his own sister and then proceeded to mow down eight others outside a nightclub at 1am, the killer was a registered Democrat, a gun enthusiast, and, according to what is believed to be his Twitter account, held “extreme left views.” He liked Elizabeth Warren, hated Immigration and Customs Officers, was a fan of Antifa and, in the hours before he took his rifle to a night club, ‘liked’ tweets about the El Paso mass shooting. In high school, he got in trouble for keeping a “hit list” of people he’d like to kill, a “rape list” for girls he’d like to rape. CNN reports the police were notified of the kill list, but it’s unclear if the cops, school district or his parents did anything to treat his violent ideations. In El Paso, where the killer, an apparent eco-terrorist, reportedly left behind a manifesto about an Hispanic immigration “invasion” at the cost of the environment. He discussed the Christ Church terrorist’s eco-fascist beliefs in the screed he left behind. The killer’s murderous rampage at a Walmart killed 22 people, eight of whom were Mexican citizens. Reporters said the killings were motivated by “white supremacist” views, a motivation denounced by President Trump, but police don’t really know the motivation. The killer added that his views predated President Trump‘s. Weird.
Democratic presidential candidates breathtakingly tried to fob off the El Paso mass murder on President Trump’s views on illegal immigration in their usual fashion: by purposely conflating it with legal immigration. Therefore, they ‘reasoned,’ one of the killers, the eco-terrorist, was a “white supremacist” because he didn’t like “Hispanics” pouring over the border and, hey, that’s what we imagine Trump means when he castigates illegal immigration so the killer is just like the president and we call the president a white supremacist, so they’re totally the same person! Umkay.
The Dayton killer was a mentally ill young man who’d been hearing voices in his head for years, according to a former girlfriend. He was also a Leftist, Antifa-loving, anti-capitalist, Trump-hating douchebag, but this, too, was all Trump’s fault by the Democrats’ lights. They don’t know why. It just IS, ok?
For three years I’ve been dutifully following the case of Mike Strickland, an independent journalist, who was attacked by Antifa at a downtown Portland, Oregon anti-violence rally organized by people who, ironically, were pro-guns and calling for violence against the police. But when an Antifa mob roughed up Strickland to get him tossed from the protest rally and it didn’t work, they came back to finish the job. Strickland drew his gun in self defense to back them off. It worked. No shots were fired. One of the people who menacingly followed Strickland was one of the leaders who’d called for violence.
Strickland, not Antifa, was convicted of felonies and served time in jail.
Then, this year, independent reporter Andy Ngo was beaten by Antifa during another Portland, Oregon melee.
He didn’t fight back. He suffered a brain injury. No one’s been arrested for the near-deadly assault.
Antifa was behind the Berkeley violence done to stop conservative speakers from coming to campus.
These killers in El Paso and Dayton both were in their 20’s and, as one observer put it in my Bible study today, have been inculcated with some pretty crazy ideas. In the case of the eco-terrorist in El Paso, he’d been told by everyone from Al Gore to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that we were all going to die within a few years because of environmental degradation and global warming. His ideas were obviously extreme, but it wasn’t too long ago that the Sierra Club held even more severe beliefs on immigration than the killer.
In Dayton, the killer was told that everyone from President Trump on down were “racists,” “fascists” and “nazis,” worthy of being attacked.
Antifa believes that, as I routinely put it, anyone to the right of Mao is a nazi-racist-fascist.
About a month before they physically attacked him, Antifa called Strickland a “racist,” without evidence of any sort, of course. They did it to tee him up to be ousted from ‘their’ rally (on public streets) and later to be physically beaten out of the anti-gun rally in July 2016.
As Andy Ngo put it in a piece in the NY Post, where he purloined my Mao saying, the Dayton killer considered the Antifa nutter who tried to firebomb the ICE detention center to be a “martyr” for the cause.
We’ve been here before.
The 1960’s and 1970’s saw the Bill Ayers’s Weather Underground and other domestic terror groups fire bomb, kidnap, assault and murder all in the name of ‘peace’ and ‘change.’
And in the late 1990’s, the Portland office of the FBI began an investigation of the domestic terror group known as “The Family.”
The animal and eco terror cell was responsible for torching a Vail, Colorado ski resort, San Diego apartment complex under construction and conducting Oregon SUV fires and tree spiking operations.
They were based from Portland to Eugene. They started out as ardent animal and environment lovers and eventually talked themselves into committing acts violence which could have easily killed innocents.
They didn’t care. Fewer people, fewer environmental problems and more room for the animals, right?
With the mass murders over the weekend, it looks like the FBI has gotten itself another eco and Antifa group to investigate. Antifa has already declared “war” on all the folks who don’t think like them.
I hope the Feds get on this fast before these domestic terrorists rack up any more victims.
Following the El Paso and Dayton mass shootings over the weekend, there were sincere appeals to government leaders to ‘do something’ to prevent something like this from ever happening again.
At a Dayton vigil, people chanted, “Do Something! Do Something!”
‘Doing something’ is a good idea. But what?
Weird.
The killer lived with his grandparents while he went to community college.
Authorities are labeling the shooting as an act of terrorism.
At this writing, authorities believe that both killers bought their guns legally. That means both passed background checks. School officials knew about the kill and rape lists and cops investigated. Both killers wrote about their murderous ideations on social media. In the end, the government didn’t “do something” to stop these killings from happening.
Who knew or could have known enough to ‘do something’?
In the end, the only ones who knew the full record and who could ‘do something’ were the people closest to the killers, not the government.
When someone’s mentally ill, which these Leftist crazies were, somebody has to be able to get them help – even when they don’t want it.
This is a tough call. I’m a civil libertarian.
But instead of going after everybody else’s Second Amendment rights and forsaking the right to be safe in public spaces, let’s make it easier to evaluate people who appear to be mentally ill. And make the bar high.
That means that instead of coming up with ‘something’ to deprive law abiders of their God-given rights, families get the legal standing to get these people an evaluation before they’re loosed on the innocents at a Walmart in El Paso or a nightclub in Dayton.
The killers held extreme leftist views. The ‘do something!’ chanted by the shocked and saddened crowds in Dayton should be a wake up call that evaluating severe mental illness is best left to those closest to the person – not the angry mob.
