The jury in the George Zimmerman case deliberated fewer than 12 hours before rendering a Not Guilty verdict to second degree murder charges in the death of Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman batted his eyes twice as the clerk reported the not guilty verdict and then he shook the hands of his attorneys.
Zimmerman could have been found guilty on the lesser included manslaughter charge but the jury did not find him guilty of that, either. On the last day of the trial, Prosecutors, apparently sensing the jury wasn’t buying their case, also tried to slip in new lesser charges of child abuse against Zimmerman in the killing of Martin. That effort was spiked by the judge.
Reaction from the race baiting politician, “The Reverend” Al Sharpton called the verdict a ‘slap in the face’ to the American people and called for a federal investigation.
STATEMENT BY REV. AL SHARPTON ON GEORGE ZIMMERMAN BEING ACQUITTED OF ALL CHARGES IN THE SHOOTING OF TRAYVON MARTIN
Saturday, July 13, 2013 (New York, NY) “The acquittal of George Zimmerman is a slap in the face to the American people but it is only the first round in the pursuit of justice. We intend to ask the Department of Justice to move forward as they did in the Rodney King case and we will closely monitor the civil case against Mr. Zimmerman. I will convene an emergency call with preachers tonight to discuss next steps and I intend to head to Florida in the next few days.”
