Pete the Banker: Did the FED Give Obama Friends Insider Information?

FedSo one wonders how many contributions flowed into the Obama coffers from this little gem?

 CNBC reported earlier today,

It still isn’t clear how the minutes of the Federal Reserve’s March meeting leaked out early.

And why does it matter? Gee, wouldn’t you like to trade on insider information?

Because the minutes were released while the market was open, it’s possible that someone might have attempted to trade on those minutes. Such trading might not even violate securities laws, which generally allow outsiders to trade on inadvertently leaked non-public information.

And later they spilled who got the leaked insider information,

A list of recipients obtained by CNBC reveals that at least 12 banks, a Wall Street law firm, a hedge fund and a private equity fund were on the distribution list that got the minutes early.

And just who were these privileged few?

The banks included Fifth Third, Citigroup, UBS, Barclays, U.S. Bancorp,Goldman SachsWells Fargo, HSBC, BNP Paribas, BB&TJPMorgan Chaseand PNC.

Sullivan & Cromwell, one of the most powerful Wall Street law firms, also got the email.

The email was also sent to King Street Capital Management, a hedge fund with $20 billion under management, and private equity firms The Carlyle Group and The Cypress Group.

Trade groups on the list included The American Bankers Association, the Independent Community Bankers of America and the National Association of Realtors.

The lobbying firms Rich Feuer Anderson and Roberts Raheb Gradler also received the email, as did The Inter Continental Exchange and the European Central Bank.

Don’t hold me to this, but I suspect this is a violation of Federal securities law, violating the insider trading covenants.

Scott St. Clair: The Hollow Hubris of Gun Rights Infringement

guns how to write lawEvery current gun-rights-infringement proposal either on the table or enacted into law — New York and Connecticut — is a waste of time and effort. They’re merely ink on paper because they do nothing to deter or prevent future gun-related crimes, but they do a lot to increase bureaucratic foolishness and prevent people from legally exercising their Second Amendment rights.

Devoid of substance, but arrogant in reach, they’re sad examples of hollow hubris.

Don’t believe me? Read this recent column by The Washington Post’s Kathleen Parker who lays it out as well as anyone:

“In a country with an estimated 250 million to 300 million guns, imposing new laws on honest people is problematic and bureaucratically complicated. Add to the conundrum our politics of individual freedom combined with the exploitation of emotion to craft what is likely an impotent solution, and it is little wonder our congressional leadership is bamboozled.

Then why is the nation being subjected to the angst of the whole debate on the issue — just to make people feel better because they’ll think something has been done? Or are there other reasons hid from view? My guess is both.

What I call the “icky” crowd — “Those guns look icky, so they must be outlawed” — who are ignorant about weapons and indifferent to

guns 2A

the point of hostile to the gun rights of others want to feel self-righteous and sanctimonious because they’re working to ban “assault rifles” when they have no idea what one is, how one works or that what they seek to ban is merely cosmetically different from an ordinary semi-automatic rifle. They feel towards guns the way many people feel toward snakes, slugs or rats. Up on the chair they jump because of the icky factor. The icky crowd are trivial people who are driven by their emotions, not their minds. But there are some who are driven by their minds, and these are the dangerous ones.

guns liberal 2ATrue-believers bound and determined to eliminate the individual right to keep and bear arms will stop at nothing to accomplish their goals. They’ll lie, cheat and, literally, steal to get their way. They lie about their intent, they cheat by faking numbers and they’re eager to steal your constitutional gun rights in the abstract and the actual guns from your home. Their mindset is control: You must be bent to their will because your freedom is a threat to their existence. They are a genuinely insecure and sorry lot because their lives are lived in fear, which means their lives are half-lived.

So, we’re stuck once again debating empty proposals that will do nothing — absolutely and positively NOTHING — to address the issues their proponents, who are fully cognizant that they will do nothing, claim they want to address. It’s a fraud, a sham and a cynical show.

After holding two private “Town Hall” meetings Oregon State Senator Ginny Burdick is coming coming out of hiding. She has just sent out a missive which laughably reads:

Dear friends and neighbors:

As your State Senator, I value your opinions about the critical issues facing our state. To give us a better chance to discuss the work we’re doing in Salem…

blah, blah, blah…

One of Burdick’s last town halls was announced only at the retirement center where it was to be held and announced via her facebook page AFTERWARDS.

Where: City of Tigard Council Chambers, 13125 SW Hall Blvd, Tigard, OR 97223

When: April 18, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Burdick has been hiding from constituents because of the blow back she’s gotten from her highly unpopular gun bills. She even went on the Al Sharpton cable show to complain about threats against her. Burdick has refused to show proof of these threats. My efforts to get proof of these threats she claims to have received were met with a note from the Legislative Counsel saying the State Senator was shielded from public records law until the legislature was over. Burdick could have released the so called threats had she wished to.

See previous posts and other stories about Burdick here, here, here, here, here, here, here, herehere, here,  and here.

Rees Lloyd: Dear Fellow [Legal] Americans

Fellow (Legal) Americans:illegal alien AP drop the I word

Associated Press recently announced it had banned the words “illegal alien” from its reportage because it is offensive to illegal aliens and those who support them.  How wonderful it is in the Age of Obama that Americans can change the fact and reality of illegality and alienage by simply changing the language — a culture transforming miracle brought to you by Obama and Liberal Progressive Elite, right out of Alice In Wonderland: “The words mean exactly what I want them to mean when I use them.” Right. (No, Left).

AP politically pressured into dropping the legal term of art "illegal" alien.
AP politically pressured into dropping the legal term of art “illegal” alien.

Far being it from me to want to hurt the sensitive feelings of the ever so sensitive illegal aliens and their Liberal supporters.

However,  at the risk of political incorrectness, which I regard as a socially transmitted disease of the brain, I am forwarding for your information another heart-warming case of how purported poor, oppressed, family-oriented, religiously-oriented illegal aliens are enriching American lives by coming to America only to find work and better their lives by doing jobs that Americans won’t do–like selling heroin, having anchor babies, all while being on welfare.
A 38-year-old Mexican national was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison Monday in U.S. District Court for heroin trafficking and illegally entering the U.S.
Jose Lizarraras-Chacon, 38, of Nayarit, Mexico was convicted late last year following an investigation by the St. Helens Police Department, the Portland Police Bureau, the Drug Enforcement Agency and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Inspector General.

Barack Hussein Obama, whose own Auntie was an illegal alien living in public housing at taxpayer expense until (surprise! surprise!) she was not deported (having nothing to do with her nephew’s status), should enforce the law rather than “transforming” it  —  and America — with his policies.

Rees Lloyd  (who in thirty years as a civil rights/workers rights attorney in California has probably defended and protected from violations of right or injustice as many or more Americans of Mexican, African, Asian, Filipino, American Indian and India Indian  descent , and “legal” immigrants “of color,” than any other single lawyer in So.
