USA Today Uses Young Trayvon Picture To Commemorate His Birthday

USA Today has done a treatment on Trayvon Martin’s birthday today in the same story it reports his killer not getting a delay in his trial. Fair enough.

But now that we’ve seen the chicanery with which the media have reported this shooting, the selective, damning editing and hiding pictures of George Zimmerman’s beaten and bleeding head, it seems to me that we might make an effort to at least put  angelic Trayvon in context.

So stop using the junior high school photos. Here are a couple you might use:

Meantime, As Long As We’re Persecuting Christians. Christian Group at University Kicked Off Campus Due to Requiring Leaders to be, Uh, Christians

I’m not making this up. And the Christian purge goes on. Stay strong. From Christianity Today:

The University of Michigan (UM) has become thelatest school to suspend its on-campus InterVarsity Christian Fellowship chapter for discrimination.

According to the Michigan Daily, “The University’s Asian InterVarsity chapter of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship…claimed Thursday that it was ‘kicked off’ campus because of religious qualifications for its student leaders.”A UM spokeswoman said the suspension occurred because the groupdid not file its re-registration papers by the appropriate deadline, not because of its leadership qualification requirements. Two days later, UM reinstated IVCF as a recognized student organization, even after a meeting in which club leaders and university representatives disagreed about whether or not the group’s constitution violates UM’s non-discrimination policies. ________________________________________After the student leaders of Tufts Christian Fellowship (TCF) declined to revise their leadership policies, the Boston-area research university’s Community Union Judiciary (TCUJ) revoked the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship chapter’s status as an officially recognized student organization.

Oregon’s Stasi: State "Investigates" Couple Who Refuse to Sell Wedding Cake to Lesbians

I’ve been frying other fish, subject matter wise (Mo Mo and Clack Town Center Shooting aftermath), but, for the record, when the state says it must ‘investigate’ the Sweet Cakes by Melissa Bakery in Gresham because the owners chose not to bake a lesbian couple a wedding cake then we’re in the age of Stasi.

Just ask this couple who supported the bakery on Saturday with dozens of others and spoke to the Portland Tribune:

Vlad and Miya, a Christian couple from Happy Valley, added that the Oregon Equality Act infringes upon their beliefs and persecutes Christians.

Miya, an immigrant from the Ukraine, said she came to the United States for religious freedom, but instead, “It looks like the same thing is starting here that we had over there.”
“(Christians) have rights, as well,” Miya added. “If we believe this is a sin and we don’t want to be supporting those actions, then we have the right to refuse.
“Gays and homosexuals is a lifestyle that they’ve chosen. This is what I believe. (The bakery) did not refuse service to them, but they did refuse to participate in having them get married.”

 Wake up, Oregon, it’s happening.

UPDATED! Occupy Portland Activist Occupies Liberal Irony. Should He or Illegal Aliens Get In State College Tuition?

Cameron at N 17

An Occupy Portland socialist/anarchist (he says he’s an anarchist) has come face to face with a tougher opponent than a cop in riot gear. Cameron Whitten has come face to face with government bureaucracy and far left politics. It’s a potent brew for the Occupier.

The Occupy Portland poster child, hunger striker and former Mayoral Candidate has been denied in state tuition at an Oregon state university because officials don’t believe he has established residency. This at the same time Oregon state legislators are planning to consider a bill allowing in state tuition to illegal aliens.

So Cameron Whitten is asking friends and followers of his Facebook page to write letters on his behalf to Western Oregon University where a hearing will take place today on his appeal to receive in state tuition  (see his appeal below). Currently he’s been taking classes at Portland State University.

Now I can’t attest to having seen Whitten at the Occupy Portland camp out the whole time, but if you look at the picture surrounding his tweet and these other photos it’s evidence he has been in Portland long enough to be arrested roughed up at the “N 17” protest of November of 2011. (Cameron says he wasn’t arrested at N 17, he was arrested three other times. Sorry for the mistake. Cam corrected me via twitter which said: @VictoriaTaft I was arrested on 10/29/2011, 11/13/2011, 12/16/2011, and 1/20/2012. #SmoothCriminal

The irony, of course, is that Cameron’s buddies on the left– the liberals and Democrats in the legislature–are taking up a bill to allow illegal aliens in-state tuition at Oregon universities. That’s right, they’d allow people in this country illegally to have in-state tuition but not an American citizen like Cameron.

Occupying Terry Shrunk Plaza

PSU could check off a lot of EEOC boxes by having Cam on campus.  Think of it: He’s a far lefty/socialist. Check. Black. Check, check. And as an added bonus, he’s GAY!  He’s hit the trifecta!

Oh, and the other delicious irony of this story? The lawmaker sponsoring the bill is a teacher at Western Oregon University, State Senator Peter Courtney. Whoops, gotta go reset the irony meter!

If you have paid attention to my personal Facebook Page during this past month, you might know that I am stuck in an unfortunate position with the Oregon University System. I have been considered to be a non-resident for tuition purposes, which has made achieving an adequate education a nearly impossible possibility for me. There are many criteria in which OUS determines whether someone is an in-state resident for tuition purposes, including financial independence and duration of residence in the state. Under challenge in my case is adequate documentation that I am living in the State of Oregon for non-academic reasons.

I have considered Oregon to be my home since 2009. I have worked here. I have volunteered for dozen of non-profits here. I ran for public office here. The longest I have been away from Oregon in the past 12 months was a single week. I have provided my parents tax information, my social security number, copies of my identification and casework from when I first arrived. There is no other place that I could imagine being my home at this point. This is where I ask for your help.

There is no better documentation than the support of other Oregonians in my community. If you can, write a letter to OUS about what you have witnessed me do in the community, or an experience in which I personally touched your life.

The criteria for what I am asking in the letter is simple:

1. Be at least 200 words in length.
2. Does not include any condescending or hostile language.
3. It goes as far back as you can remember about my presence in the State.
4. Include your signature in handwriting, and scan it to cwhitten@pdx.edu OR you can email it to 2333 NW Irving St, Portland 97210.
5. It makes me cry a little when I read it.

There isn’t much time between now and when I have to testify in Monmouth at Western State University, on February 5th, 11:00am. By that time, I wish to approach them with at least 100 personal letters from real Oregonians about my activities in Oregon, and how I have worked my hardest to make sure this is a prosperous place for all Oregonians to live.

Stay Healthy,

cameron whitten.

Piers Morgan Gets Schooled by Ted Nugent

I was wondering when this match up was going to happen and it did last night. The CNN fancy pants interviewed rocker Ted Nugent about guns. But it appears that in order to get an audience with Noog, he had to come to Texas, go to a gun range and do the interview in a gun shop. Piers actually took an AR 15 to the range and is a pretty good shot.

Before you see Nugent take apart some the CNN gun schtick, note three things about the interview:

  • Faulty “hit by gun” statistic which Nugent takes apart.
  • Comparing guns stats between the US with near failed state Yemen where there is virtually no rule of law and is overrun by terrorists shooting–you guessed it–guns.
  • His habit of talking over the good points made by interviewee.

A Big Thank You to a Reluctant Hero. Thank You, Nick Meli, for Saving Lives At The Clackamas Town Center Mall Shooting

Nick Meli, The Good Guy
with the Gun

He is a reluctant hero but I was very proud to have him in studio today for his first long form interview to tell his story about what happened at the Clackamas Town Center shooting. Nick Meli was the good guy with the gun who stopped the bad guy with the gun on December 11th. His story is frightening and told in his humble, halting style it made it that more chilling, frankly.

Thanks to all of you who called, wrote or tweeted to Nick Meli today. He was touched by those of you who said thank you. If you missed out please add to the few who posted a comment on the Victoria Taft Show facebook page or here.  I’m sure he’ll be checking them.

Our long interview is located in the 1pm and 2pm hours of the show here and here.

On December 11th, Nick heard gun shots and then took charge, got people to safety, called the cops–911 was busy–after which he realized he was on his own until the troops arrived. He secured his friends, ordered people to safety and then stalked the killer who had, by this time, killed Cindy Yuille and Steven Tyler and wounded a 15 year old girl.

A Grateful Community Says Thanks

Nick says he aimed his Glock 22 at the shooter who noticed him and looked alarmed. He could see under the shooter’s hockey mask that the bad guy was shocked he was there and preparing to engage. As the shooter tried to clear his AR 15, Nick was preparing to take a shot when he saw movement in the Charlotte Russe store behind the shooter. He chose to take cover and reassess the situation because he didn’t want to shoot an innocent. His next move was to go to the Macy’s to see if the shooter would follow him there. Nick says he was positioning himself to kill him if he rounded the corner. It didn’t come to that. The shooter had taken off to a service hallway where he killed himself.

To Jane, the woman who called near the end of the interview whose daughter was in the Charlotte Russe, well, you made Nick feel that his choice to stand down for a second and reassess was worth it. It was, you see, movement in the Charlotte Russe store that jolted him from tunnel vision and convinced him not to take the shot.

The next shot heard was the one in which the bad guy took his own life.

Nick is glad he didn’t have to do it.

Good on you, Nick. You’re a hero. I’m glad we could give you an award and a special gift certificate to enjoy some fabulous pizza at MMA star Chael Sonnen’s Mean Streets Pizza. Wish we could have done more.

A grateful community should do no less.
