Move On Gets Involved After Demise of KPOJ

Lib talk radio station KPOJ flipped formats to sports last Friday and the Libs have been spitting tacks ever since. Efforts to get the lib format back on  have been getting lots of help from fellow libs such as Blue Oregon’s Kari Chisolm. Now he’s asked for and gotten help from the MoveOn.Commies.

Here’s their latest:
Dear Portland MoveOn member,

On November 9, Clear Channel, the corporate owners of KPOJ, changed formats from progressive talk to sports. This was done without warning and without explanation.

KPOJ was the very first Air America outlet, launched the national radio show of Thom Hartmann, and for years has been one of the brightest stars in the constellation of progressive talk stations in America.

We believe that this decision by Clear Channel management can be reversed. We can—and will—demonstrate that progressive talk radio in Portland has a dedicated listener base.

We’ve noticed you’re out there listening and calling. We know it’s our responsibility to give you the best in local talk radio. We strive to do that everyday. So to KPOJ listeners: Welcome to AM 860 KPAM. We don’t bite, we’re not nuts, and we actually know what’s going on.

Maxident* Proves Buses Work Better, Are Cheaper and More Flexible

From a Tri Met watcher who is amused by the apparent torrent of horribles resulting from an apparently drunk driver who messed up the Loot Rail tracks in Beaverton. Amused  because the ‘fix’ is a cheaper bus. Surprise!

Buses just drive around the problem, for a lot less  money
and a lot faster, as they fix the tracks and power lines

Police said an impaired motorist drove onto the MAX tracks late Tuesday.
BEAVERTON — Police say a man attempted to take the Oregon 217 exit off U.S. 26 late Tuesday and ended up on the eastbound MAX tracks near the Sunset Transit Center.
The driver, Jeff John Robertson, 27, of Vancouver, was arrested on accusations of reckless driving, driving under the influence and criminal mischief.
When police arrived, they found the BMW Robertson was driving had landed on the tracks. A tree also was obstructing the tracks.

MAX Blue/Red lines between downtown Portland and Beaverton TC are disrupted after a car crash damaged the overhead wire. We are shortening the length our shuttle buses are running. Shuttle buses will serve stops between Washington Park and Beaverton TC. Expect delays through 6 p.m.

Red Line is only serving stops between PDX Airport MAX and Galleria/Library stations. Red Line riders, take Blue Line to travel between Galleria/Library and Washington Park.
Thank you for your continued patience as we repair the wire and assure that trains can safely run through the area.

Robert King Disappears From PPB PIO Post; Given New Assignment

Robert L King, the even-tempered poker-faced Public Information Officer for the Portland Police Bureau, has been reassigned.  KPAM asked where and was told he was now a Lieutenant in Vice as of about a week ago. No reason was given for his reassignment when asked, however King’s been in the middle of a mudslide of bad PR for the cop shop since the Aaron Campbell shooting.

King was the expert regarding training at the time Officer Ron Frashour shot Campbell. King, the former head of the police officers union, initially found that Frashour’s tactics were within police training and procedures but abruptly changed his story within hours. The change in the story was in line with the City of Portland’s political choice to fire Frashour.

The whiplash-quick story-change by King and the City’s hopeless attempt to buck the system and get rid of Frashour prompted this post by former Multnomah County Sheriff and former Gresham Police Chief Bernie Giusto in October. It’s excerpted below:

Now follow the bouncing ball in the form of  the city’s intent to appeal the employment reinstatement to the Court of Appeals;

  • Frashour was then fired by Mayor Adams and Police Chief Reese for acting outside of that same policy and not following those same bureau’s training protocols regarding the use of deadly physical force;
  • and then reinstated to his position after an arbitrator–following Oregon law–found that the officer had not acted in a manner that ignored his policy or training;
  • and then the arbitration hearing found Frashour’s actions were supported by police trainers who testified they believe he acted with the bureau’s policy and his training;
  • and then Lieutenant Robert King agreed in an official police command review that not only were Frashour’s actions within the policy and training….the policy left much to be desired;
  • and thensurprisingly– he changed or was forced to change his position just before arbitration;
  • and then on appeal regarding the arbitrator’s decision, the State of Oregon Employment Relations Board affirmed the arbitrator and told the city to put the officer back to work with all back pay;
  • and then the city decided to appeal to the Court of Appeals based on the “Public Interest Exception”;
  • and then the Portland Police Command directly and publicly questioned the veracity (sounds like being called a liar to a cop), of the officers who testified in the arbitration process;
  • and then Lt. King’s conflicting statements gets hung out to dry again on the front page without a safety net again;
  • and then begging this question…………………HUH?

What a mess. No wonder King got the heck out of there.

Victor Sharpe On Israel & Gaza and Portland & Vancouver USA

Imagine terrorists in Portland targeting residents in Vancouver day after day with deadly missiles. Often one hundred a day for the last three weeks and over 12,000 in the last five years. That has been what the villagers and townsfolk in southern Israel have had to endure, though such news is hardly ever reported in the mainstream liberal press here in the States or in most other countries. Only when Israel can endure the deaths and destruction no longer and retaliates does it become headline news.

This is what is now happening. The civilians of southern Israel are under constant rocket attack from the Gaza Strip.

The current major Palestinian aggression began on Saturday night (Nov.10) when an anti-tank missile was fired at an army jeep traveling on the Israeli side of the border fence. Four IDF soldiers were injured. Since then, over 120 rockets have been fired at Israeli civilians.

The lives of one million Israeli civilians are being threatened and daily life in southern Israel has been totally disrupted.

The residents of villages near the Gaza border suffer constantly from rocket and mortar shell attacks. They have a mere 15 seconds warning of incoming fire. These attacks occur almost on a routine basis, as do escalations of other types of terrorist activities carried out by Hamas and the other terrorist organizations that operate under Hamas’ protection.

The pauses between the waves of rocket attacks are shortening. In the past month, Israel has been subjected to three separate periods of escalation. Since the beginning of the year, more than 800 rockets and mortar shells have been fired at Israel, a record amount since the end of Operation Cast Lead (January 2009). This peak is similar to the attacks that occurred in 2007-8. One can list the situation as follows:

· The goal of Israel’s operation is aimed at removing a strategic threat to Israeli citizens. Israel has demonstrated great restrain for a long period but cannot stand the recurring attacks on its citizens. No other state would accept a similar reality.

· Israel is acting in self-defense and out of its duty to protect its civilians from terrorist attacks.

· Hamas rules the Gaza Strip and is responsible for all that occurs in Gaza and all that is launched from there.

· It must be noted that Israel disengaged completely from the Gaza Strip in 2005 as a token of peace. The result of Israel’s disengagement is that Gaza has become a giant ammunition dump. In addition, it provides a breeding ground for terrorist groups to organize and to operate, including groups associated with al-Qaeda and Global Jihad. All this under the rule, responsibility and sponsorship of Hamas.

· Weapons smuggled from Libya, Iran and Sudan accelerated the process of Gaza turning into a terror base. These weapons also increased the danger posed to the Israeli population.

· Hamas and the other terrorist organizations hide among the civilian population of Gaza. They deliberately direct their fire at the civilian population of Israel. These acts constitute a double war crime.

· The targets of the Israeli operation are all military and Israel makes every effort to prevent harm to the civilian population of Gaza.

· The border crossings from Israel to the Gaza Strip remain open, allowing for the routine passage of goods and humanitarian aid. Even as Palestinian missiles bombard the Jewish state, Israel keeps providing Gaza with power, electricity, gas, food supplies.
