Pulpit Freedom Sunday October 7th. Ask Your Pastor to Participate

Will your Pastor speak out on Pulpit Freedom Sunday? Ask them.
The choice was never more clear. Here’s what I sent my Pastors.

America is the world’s last best hope for freedom of religion. Or it was. Judging by the HHS mandates against the Catholic church’s freedom of religion, assaults on freedom of speech in which that ridiculous “movie” maker was perp-walked to get a photo-op to appease terrorists, and economic enslavement to a debt, there’s deep cause to worry about the future of our country. We’re on the edge of fiscal collapse. You already know of our moral degradation. Our children, grandchildren and on and on will pay tomorrow for our excesses of today.

It doesn’t have to continue.

If you don’t fearlessly speak truth from the pulpit about the stakes of this election, who will? Please consider participating in Pulpit Freedom Sunday (see information below). You actually have a First Amendment right to do so (see below).

“We have learned a bit too late in the day that action springs not from thought but from a readiness for responsibility.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Letters and Papers from Prison

I realize you may think I’m “going nuclear” with a Bonhoeffer quote. However, considering our continued appeasement to Iran, its leader’s promise to annihilate Israel, its continued efforts to build a nuclear bomb and the announcement this week that they now have a delivery drone that can be deployed to Israel,  I believe it’s appropriate.

I think it would be appropriate for clergy to support a candidate who:

Does not have the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff call a Florida Pastor and demand he shut up about a movie the President claimed is responsible for rioting in the Middle East. Here’s the story.
Does not encourage dependence on government while at the same time making it more difficult, through regulation and taxation, for business to create jobs so people can help themselves. (In the news every day)
Does not unconstitutionally regulate the churches’ free speech and freedom of religion rights in order to accommodate a health care bill. Here’s one of several stories.
Does not draw a moral equivalence between Israel defending its existence and Hamas led Palestinians whose stated aim is to “wipe Israel off the map.”

We need in America a leader who believes in the exceptional nature of this country, who believes that government is there to serve the individual, not the other way around. We’ve seen much degradation of this value in just the past four years. I can’t imagine what we’re in store for if this President has free reign for another term. Indeed, this election will decide if we will become a nation of citizens– or serfs.

Please participate in Pulpit Freedom Sunday.

Prayerfully,

Victoria

Grand total: More than 1,000 pastors to challenge IRS
Registration for Oct. 7’s Pulpit Freedom Sunday nearly double last year’s–and growing

Attorney sound bites:  Erik Stanley #1  |  Erik Stanley #2
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The number of pastors registered to participate in Alliance Defending Freedom’s fifth annual Pulpit Freedom Sunday has exceeded 1,000, nearly doubling last year’s participation. Registration continues until Oct. 7, so the number continues to rise.

The registered pastors have committed to preach sermons that present biblical perspectives on the positions of electoral candidates. In so doing, they will exercise their constitutionally protected freedom to engage in religious expression from the pulpit despite an Internal Revenue Service rule known as the Johnson Amendment that activist groups often use to silence churches by threatening their tax-exempt status.

“Pastors should decide what they preach from the pulpit, not the IRS,” said Senior Legal Counsel Erik Stanley. “It’s outrageous for pastors and churches to be threatened or punished by the government for applying biblical teachings to all areas of life, including candidates and elections. The question is, ‘Who should decide the content of sermons: pastors or the IRS?’”

“No government-recognized status can be conditioned upon the surrender of a constitutionally protected right,” Stanley explained. “No one would suggest a pastor give up his church’s tax-exempt status if he wants to keep his constitutional protection against illegal search and seizure or cruel and unusual punishment. Likewise, no one should be asking him to give up his church’s tax-exempt status to be able to keep his constitutionally protected right to free speech.”

Pulpit Freedom Sunday, on Oct. 7 this year, is an event associated with the Pulpit Initiative, a legal effort designed to secure the free speech rights of pastors in the pulpit. Alliance Defending Freedom hopes to eventually go to court to have the Johnson Amendment struck down as unconstitutional for its regulation of sermons, which are protected by the First Amendment.

Pulpit Freedom Sunday began in 2008 with 33 participating pastors. Participation increased each year, with last year’s participation blossoming to 539. This year’s registered participation is currently 1,050 and growing.

A national phone survey conducted by Alliance

Defending Freedom and LifeWay Research with 1,000 randomly drawn senior pastors prior to last year’s Pulpit Freedom Sunday found that nearly nine out of 10 Protestant pastors believe that the government should not regulate their sermons.

Mother of Oregon SEAL Killed in Benghazi Attack Victims Says Response is "Absolutely Unacceptable"

The mother Tyrone Wood has labeled “absolutely unacceptable” the lack of urgency in the FBI investigation into the attack.

Tyrone Wood was the Oregon-grown Navy SEAL turned private security operator murdered with Ambassador Chris Stevens in the attack on Benghazi, Libya.

The Obama Administration has blamed the attack on an anti Muslim video. We now know that the Obama Administration has engaged in a pattern of disinformation–not misinformation–stemming from the attack. Indeed knowing within the first 24 hours that it indeed was a terrorist attack. The Administration attempted to blame the attack and the Cairo Embassy breach on the video.

The supposed producer of the video was perp walked to provide offended Islamists with a photo of the man’s detention by police–as if that would placate them. Yesterday, he was officially charged with a probation violation which required him not to use the internet.

This is a travesty. It’s unAmerican. It’s impeachment-worthy.

*VIDEO* Democrat PCP Intimidator Pays Kevin the Geek a Visit

The woman who picked up her phone to threaten a local woman because of her political views has come forward to say she’s sorry. But whether Democrat apparatchik Michelle Neumann’s apology is sincere is anybody’s guess.

The Oregon attorney, Democrat Precinct Committee Woman–PCP– and full time bully came forward in the last few days to offer the apology to Kevin the Geek Kerwin. It was Kerwin’s sign criticizing President Obama that prompted the threats.

Kerwin’s sign (see picture below), sent viral by this blog and which made national news also sent Neumann into a fit of pique.

When Neumann trolled Kerwin’s Facebook page, she found an email that he’d posted from a supporter. That note of support was enough to send Neumann into a fit of frenzy. She discovered the woman’s contact information–including her home address– and phoned her threatening to picket her employer in order to get her fired.

When the victim told Neumann she was a stay-at-home-mom she was worried the crazed woman would come to her home and harm her kids.

That threat was enough to silence the woman. She didn’t want to be named, didn’t want to come on the air, and didn’t even want me to come by and record the call from Neumann.

Kerwin was skeptical about the apology and you can hear it in his questioning of Neumann. He’s been threatened, slapped and berated for his politics. This is the tolerance of the left. See my previous posts here,  here, here, here, here, here, here, here,

I talked to Neumann on the phone when she came to Kerwin’s business. She told me she’d never done anything like this before. When I asked why she’d done it now she told me she, “was too caught up in politics.” She told me she was sorry and was, “setting things right.”

I told her I thought she was real gutsy to come forward.

But now we think we know why she apologized.

That part of the story next.

Tri Met Increases Debt $1.6 Million Per WEEK!

The Cascade Policy Institute has just completed a going over of the Tri Met budget and has some bad news for the taxpaying public: Tri Met’s pissing away more money than you can shake a stick at.

Ok, that’s not a direct quote. Here’s one:
The unfunded actuarial accrued liabilities for Other Post-Employment Obligations (OPEB) rose from $816 million to $900 million,

as of January 1, 2012. The OPEB liability grows by roughly $1.6 million per week; thus, the unfunded liability as of today is approximately $959 million.
As one observer of the Milwaukie Light Rail debacle put it:

Betraying the public, Clackamas County Commissioners Lehan, Damon, Lininger & Bernard borrowed and paid TriMet nearly $20 million just four days before a light rail vote to allow the public to make that decision for them.
TriMet has been cutting service & raising fares while loses $1/2 million per month and fiscal mayhem cripples their ability to run the Streetcar, Light Rail and buses
The Green Line service into Clackamas County has been cut back, the promised development never happened, crime did and unwanted $1.5 billion Portland-Milwaukie light rail is being built with no reliable way to fully fund it’s operation.
Gee, who wouldn’t want an Inter-Govermental Agreement with TriMet? Great Partner!

Audit Shows TriMet Continues to Slide Deeper into Debt
Ever-Increasing Expenses and Unsustainable Costs for Labor and Construction Push Agency Further into Debt

PORTLAND, Ore.- TriMet quietly released its 2012 financial report September 26, and the audit shows the agency is continuing to get deeper into debt. Despite record-setting levels of income, TriMet expenses are rising at an even faster rate, due to unsustainable costs associated with both labor and light rail construction.

“Without a fundamental change in the agency’s business model, transit service levels will continue to decline,” stated Cascade Policy Institute President and CEO John A. Charles, Jr. “Eventually, debt service to Wall Street bondholders and payments to retirees will become TriMet’s leading obligations, making it impossible to perform its mission of serving transit-dependent riders.”

Notable features of the financial report include the following:

·         Total TriMet operating and non-operating revenues (including passenger fares and payroll tax revenue) increased by 19% over 2011. Despite this healthy gain, transit service was reduced in September.

·         The cost of fringe benefits equaled 156% of wages in 2012. This is a slight improvement from the 2011 ratio of 163%.

·         The unfunded actuarial accrued liabilities for Other Post-Employment Obligations (OPEB) rose from $816 million to $900 million, as of January 1, 2012. The OPEB liability grows by roughly $1.6 million per week; thus, the unfunded liability as of today is approximately $959 million.

·         Unfunded liabilities for both management and union pension obligations continued to rise, a trend that has been ongoing for nearly three decades (see attached).

·         TriMet had an operating loss of $404 million in 2012. Since 2006, TriMet has run cumulative operating losses of more than $2.3 billion.

·         On August 30, 2012, TriMet sold $93.3 million in Senior Lien Payroll Tax Revenue Bonds to fund the District’s share of the Milwaukie light rail project and other capital projects. Total debt service costs on these bonds will be $164.9 million, payable through 2038. These payments will add to the growing debt load that is causing TriMet to steadily reduce service throughout the region.

The key cost drivers continue to be fringe benefits for employees and unsustainable costs associated with light rail construction, including debt service on bonds. According to Charles, “The TriMet Board has consistently shown itself incapable of prudently managing public resources over the past 15 years. It is time for the state legislature to step in and gain control of the organization before it collapses.”

Longer-term financial trends are shown here.

Obama Phone Lady, Uh, Disconnected

And She’s a Purple Shirt for SEIU, The Exchange is Complete

I played this video about a dozen times on my program today. Now the Obama Administration is revealing tonight that, hey, ObamaPhone lady is all –wait for it–George Bush’s fault!

What it says is that people are dangling the specter of ‘free stuff’ in exchange for a vote. This is the 2012’s version of ‘walking around money’ they used to dole out in the bad old days. It tells us that a woman who

appears to be a “community organizer” for–wait for it—SEIU, engages in this quid pro quo and thinks it’s perfectly alright. It’s not. This is the kind of behavior that encourages dependence and reliance on something other than ourselves or our core beliefs for sustenance.

Furthermore at a time when we need to buckle down and save this country and get somebody else in office who knows how to grow the pie instead of redistributing it, we’ve got this horrible example of ‘me first’ from a grown adult.

What a shameful example. No, you’re right Henry, it isn’t ‘news,’ because news is that which is out of the ordinary. Sadly, this woman’s behavior is not. And that’s what makes it news.I would never intentionally do anything to impart to my kids that taking is better than doing for myself.

Your sign does nothing to unify this country. In fact, it further divides it. Sorry about the next 4 years. If you were able to move up here to this beautiful state and sustain a business you owe some credit to your POTUS. If not for him, the country may still be stuck in a rut. Do you think a country in a depression can seek out the expertise you may provide? I wouldn’t. I would find a cheaper means of computer repair. Although I can do it myself so it hardly applies to me. However, I think you owe the man at least an ounce of respect. He took over from a presidency that had clearly failed you and other Katrina survivors, and has done a fine job. Not A+ but not a F either. I am certain there are plenty of ways this man has encouraged a scenario in which you can survive and hopefully one day thrive. Until then, think about the potential business you might be steering away. Just a thought.

Or House GOP Congratulates Ben Unger on First Anniversary of Renting A House in HD 29

From Christiana Mayer:

House Republicans Celebrate Unger’s One Year of Renting and Voting in HD 29

SALEM– House Republicans today celebrated Democratic candidate Ben Unger’s one-year anniversary of renting and voting in Hillsboro while he runs for State Representative in House District 29.
“We at Promote Oregon would like to wish Ben Unger a happy one year anniversary,” said Nick Smith, of Promote Oregon Leadership PAC. “One year ago, Ben Unger removed his hat as partisan leftwing political consultant and moved into House District 29 to run for office.”

“After ten years of working in politics from Chicago to Salem we are glad he decided to move to Washington County to advance his political career.”

However, House Republicans will continue efforts to re-elect Rep. Katie Eyre (R-Hillsboro), a long-time Hillsboro resident and the Oregon House’s only Certified Public Accountant.

While Unger was running partisan campaigns elsewhere, Rep. Eyre has taken leadership roles in the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, including serving as a member and chair of its Board of Directors, and has served on the Hillsboro Planning Commission. In addition, she has been actively involved in education outreach about domestic violence.

“Never mind the fact that Unger is only renting a house in the district while he runs for office,” Smith said. “Of course we don’t blame him for only renting a house and not buying. Elections are unpredictable and buying a home is a big commitment. Now the real question is: If Ben Unger is unsuccessful in November will he renew his lease or move back to Portland or Salem to run another political campaign?”

“In any event, Happy Anniversary Ben!”
