Adopt a Goose Round Up to Start Today at PDX Park

Finally someone is doing something about the layabout geese who have decided to make Portland parks their year round potty stop.

While I believe these starlings-with-bills should be shown the inside of a stew pot, the Audubon is adopting out about 100 geese. That’s right the ADOPT A GOOSE program has begun.

Audubon is more interested in the salmon being pooped on in a near by Westmoreland Park creek than the kids who have to play soccer, baseball, softball in the goose poop, but hey, admitting you have a problem is part of the healing process.
Here’s KATU’s video of the round up this morning:

Dave Hunt Wants to Captain Dysfunctional Clack Co Commission

Former House Speaker Dave Hunt is getting into the race for chair for Clackamas County Commission. He’ll officially make his announcement on my show today on KPAM. The Gladstone Democrat was drummed out of his House leadership position because of his hyperpartisanship and inability to play well with others.

Hunt cut his teeth working on the Hill for Reps Louise Slaughter, Brian Baird and Darlene Hooley. He’s been elected to five terms in the Oregon house rising to speaker in 2009.

Hunt began to lose favor with his own party after using his speaker’s PAC to fund what I call “Liar Flyers” about Republicans in key house races. Hunt claimed the Republican candidates were in favor of a 30% sales tax, a claim Hunt made up out of thin air.

All the candidates Hunt targeted with his “Liar Flyers” won their races. See posts here, here, and here.

Should Hunt be elected to Clackamas County Chair he’ll have to contend with a large contingent of fiscally conservative activists in Clackamas County with whom he’s crossed swords before. It was AFP Clackamas that rallied around one of the targets of Hunt’s flyers, Patrick Sheehan.

In his attacks on candidates during the 2010 election, Hunt attempted to demonize Americans for Prosperity’s Clackamas County group.

Hunt derided the powerful AFP Clackamas County as “Tea Baggers,” a slang sexual epithet.

Hunt is the former head of the American Baptist Churches USA.

Let us pray.

Another Physicist Jumps Out of Man Made Global Warming Gang

SeaTac Temp Gauge Location

ICYMI:
It’s making the rounds on the blogs and the Wall Street Journal (here) picked it up yesterday. Another certified smart guy has bailed from the flat earthers at the man made global warming school of anti science and socialism:

…meet Ivar Giaever, a 1973 physics Nobel Laureate who resigned last week from the American Physical Society in protest over the group’s insistence that evidence of man-made global warming is “incontrovertible.”
In an email to the society, Mr. Giaever—who works at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute—wrote that “The claim (how can you measure the average temperature of the whole earth for a whole year?) is that the temperature has changed from ~288.0 to ~288.8 degree Kelvin in about 150 years, which (if true) means to me . . . that the temperature has been amazingly stable, and both human health and happiness have definitely improved in this ‘warming’ period.”

And the howling from the AGW crowd about how Giaever isn’t really all that smart begins in 3, 2, 1.
Except this little tidbit about him might give you pause:

Mr. Giaever was an American Physical Society fellow, an honor bestowed on “only half of one percent” of the members, according to a spokesman. He follows in the footsteps of University of California at Santa Barbara Emeritus Professor of Physics Harold Lewis, a former APS fellow who resigned in 2010, calling global warming “the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist.”

Oh, and look, he has friends:

Other dissenters include Stanford University physicist and Nobelist Robert B. Laughlin, deceased green revolution icon and Nobelist Norman Borlaug, Princeton physicist William Happer and World Federation of Scientists President Antonino Zichichi. Our point is not that all of these men agree on climate change, much less mankind’s contribution to it, only that to one degree or another they maintain an open mind about warming or what to do about it.

And, oh look, he has other friends here.

The science isn’t “settled.” There isn’t “consensus” that man is the cause of global warming.

Michael Crichton put it this way in his novel, State of Fear:

“[Earth has] five hundred volcanoes, and an eruption every two weeks. Earthquakes are continuous: a million and a half a year, a moderate Richter 5 quake every six hours, a big earthquake every ten days. Tsunamis race across the Pacific Ocean every three months.
Our atmosphere is as violent as the land beneath it. At any moment there are one thousand five hundred electrical storms across the plant. Eleven lightning bolts strike the ground each second. A tornado tears across the surface every six hours. And every four days, a giant cyclonic storm, hundreds of miles in diameter spins over the ocean and wreaks havoc on the land.
The nasty little apes that call themselves human beings can do nothing except run and hide. For these same apes to imagine they can stabilize this atmosphere is arrogant beyond belief. They can’t control the climate.
The reality is, they run from the storms.”

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox Comes to Oregon

Former Mexico President Vicente Fox comes to Monmouth to tout fundraising for a special scholarship program for Latinos. Once again, Fox comes to the aid of his countrymen.

From the press release:

Vicente Fox, the former president of Mexico, will speak at Western Oregon University (WOU) on October 20, 2011. Fox will appear at WOU as the Dr. Arne S. Jensen Lectureship Series speaker for 2011. MAPS Credit Union is the 2011 title sponsor. WOU is using the occasion of the visit by President Fox to formally launch the fundraising for the Latino Education and Access Program (LEAP) which will provide scholarships to Latino students at WOU who encounter financial need that prevent them from completing their degree at WOU. A unique aspect of this scholarship is that recipients will be expected to repay the scholarship, in essence “paying it forward” to support future WOU students. According to Associate Provost David McDonald “The LEAP Scholarship will be another creative and innovative way for WOU to support its Latino students as they struggle to balance academic success with the challenge of affordability.” NORPAC Foods is the founding donor for the LEAP Scholarship program.

NORPAC leads the pack in giving money to the cause. And why not? I’m sure NORPAC employs many people whose home country is not the United States. Many are probably here illegally. But here’s a thought: Instead of passing the DREAM Act, why don’t we just call on the big employers like NORPAC to finance the college tuitions of their employees’ kids? Makes sense to me.

Companies that hire many illegal aliens often claim their products are cheaper because of hiring cheaper labor. Can’t argue with that. But their “cheap” labor results in higher costs for housing, food stamps, medical care, and other externalities of their lawlessness.
