UPDATED! David Wu: We’ll Help You Pack. Leave Now.

Congressman David Wu says he’ll resign. It’s about time. But he says he’ll resign AFTER he helps steer the country toward a path of fiscal sustainability in the debt ceiling debate. When I first heard this I laughed, but then I thought, ‘Ya know Vic, this makes sense.’
I mean think about it: Wu must know the path toward fiscal sustainability! All he has to do is retrace his own steps, pick up the bread crumbs of bad laws he voted for and voila! We’re at least back to the something that looks like fiscal sustainability! Stimulus! Stimulus 2! Cap and Tax! “We don’t need to read the bills!” ObamaCare! The markers of fiscal stupidity were there for all to see the whole time.
Seriously, David Wu knows the way toward fiscal responsibility the same way Amy Winehouse knew sobriety. He knows the how-to’s of good stewardship the way Courtney Love knows the how-tos of motherhood. In short, he’s got no clue. So he needs to go NOW without delay.

Either email this, facebook, fax, or print and snail mail this to David Wu (see info below). Tell him we’ll help him pack. Rocket Promo fixed me up with a moving truck of my own. Let’s send him packing, folks.

Rees Lloyd: WU SHOULD GO — SO SHOULD SAM ADAMS: BOTH BETRAYED THE PUBLIC TRUST

It is obvious that David Wu has betrayed the public trust, and disgraced himself individually and as a member of Congress, by his latest sexual assault, this time on an18-year-old campaign aide, the daughter of a Democrat donor. He should, therefore, resign immediately, and not narcissistically purport to determine national policy as a Member of the House of Representatives. Or, in his case,  the House of Reprehensibles.

However, I believe it is also true that Portland Mayor Sam Adams,  a homosexual predator who stealthily seduced a 17-year-old intern, Beau Breedlove in the aptly named Beaulita Affair, should be held to the same standard by citizens and do the right thing by resigning.  Adams lied repeatedly about his affair with Breedlove in order to get elected, vilifying his opponent and all others as  “homophobes” for raising questions about his then-rumored affair with the minor male. Adams admitted the affair, including among other things, that he engaged in a romantic tongue-swapping “French kiss” with Breedlove in the charming circumstances of the City Hall Men’s Room.

Further, Adams admitted that he had consummated the relationship with Breedlove in a homosexual manner, the details of which need not be specified, but Adams attempted to excuse and justify this misconduct in office by insisting he had waited (apparently with baited breath) for Breedlove to turn 18 before doing the deed, which would otherwise be statutory rape.

At the time, Breedlove did not cooperate with investigators from the Office of the Attorney General and Adams escaped prosecution.  Later, however, Breedlove claimed that Adams had asked him to lie about the affair. Breedlove also filed a civil action.

So, is there one standard, or two? One for heterosexual misconduct in office, and another for homosexuals like Sam Adams.  Would Adams still be in office, with no effective condemnation by his Democrat Party, if Beau Breedlove had been a 17-year-old girl instead of minor male who was the object of Mayor Sam’s lust?

There ought to be one standard of “zero tolerance” for sexual misconduct in office for those who seek and hold public office and then betray the public trust. Under that one standard, David Wu should put on his I’m-A-Tiger uniform, and resign immediately. Under that standard, so should Portland Mayor Sam Adams,  resign from the office he has dishonored by his homosexual seduction of a male minor, and his dishonesty pertaining to the homosexual predation.   In short, homosexual sexual misconduct should be no more tolerable than heterosexual sexual misconduct. Period.

Liberals Should Be Madder At Debt Limit Increases Than Conservatives

Bottom line, Democrat or Republican, wrong is wrong and continually giving yourself permission to borrow more, never paying the debt down, is wrong. We taxpayers, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Anarchists, Minarchists, even those who don’t give a hoot about politics are on the hook for Trillions of dollars in debt.
It has to stop and yes, it’s not going to be pretty, but we have to begin actually getting out from under this ever increasing debt.
All of the money going out in interest payments should be going into the country’s infrastructure, Veterans Benefits, necessary entitlement programs and yes, we may disagree on just which ones are really necessary. But, paying all of that interest to foreign investors, nations or even domestic investors amounts to nothing more than fattening the coffers of those wealthy who own our debt at the expense of struggling taxpayers.
The left continually condemns the wealthy, calls on them to “share in the sacrifice” and “pay their fair share,” yet the left also approves of giving them even more of our tax dollars in the form of interest payments on the debt by supporting yet another increase to the debt limit?
It doesn’t make sense that the left isn’t demanding even louder than we are for this madness to stop.

Wu Resigns…Right After Debt Ceiling Vote

Democrats are in a better position to win this seat in a special election and I don’t only mean because of the electoral advantage in the 1st CD. The Republican choice last time, Rob Cornilles, has been toying with the idea of running again but doesn’t have a campaign superstructure in place as does Brad Avakian for instance.
I talked to Oregon GOP leader, Allen Alley, yesterday on the program and he says that if the election were held today the newly redistricted lines would be in effect. That means the D’s still hold an advantage but less so now due to the 1st CD moving out of Multnomah County slightly.

IF YOU HAD A CHANCE TO VOTE FOR HIS REPLACEMENT RIGHT NOW FOR WHOM WOULD YOU VOTE:
BRAD AVAKIAN, DEMOCRAT
ROB CORNILLES, REPUBLICAN
JOHN KUZMANICH, REPUBLICAN

BRAD WITT, DEMOCRAT

Show The Yakima Bears the Door

[Updated to reflect a major correction by the Columbian in who owns the stadium]

[Update 2: More on specific ownership of the stadium from Stephanie Rice added]

Vancouver’s city council got their first formal presentation for the Class A ball Team, Yakima Bears planned move to Vancouver. All council members except Pat Campbell have given City Manager “Erik Holmes the OK to research the issue and engage in potential discussions with Clark County” for adding a 5% entertainment tax throughout the county pay for construction of a $23 Million stadium adjacent to Clark College.

The Columbian

There are several pros & cons to relocating a Class A ball team to Vancouver, a large con being that 5% entertainment tax added to movie tickets, golf courses and several other forms of entertainment.

Although Clark County taxpayers will be on the hook for 70% of the costs of the proposed stadium, we were told “the stadium would be owned and maintained by Short Season LLC.” Stephanie Rice, the writer of the article posted this morning, “Key correction: the sentence should read (and now does) ‘the stadium would be publicly owned but maintained by Short Season LLC’.”

UPDATE: Comment from Stephanie Rice, “Lew, to be even more specific, the team would own it while the debt was being repaid, then it would be publicly owned. Here’s what I was told by the team when I asked why in documents it says the team would own it: ‘Ownership is during the period in which the facility is indebted. It secures the asset until the debt is retired. Then it is free and clear a public facility’.”

City council members Larry Smith and Jack Burkman asked to hear alternatives to the entertainment tax and were told of none.

Asked why taxpayers should pay for the stadium, Mike Thiessen of Short Season LLC said that “the team would be putting up 30 percent of the construction costs for a stadium it would use 13 percent of the time.”

That’s not exactly reassuring.

I have kept an open mind on this proposal, even though voicing concerns over its location next to the Vancouver Campus of the Veterans Hospital, but reading “After the workshop, co-owner K.L. Wombacher said the team does have alternate plans, but they don’t involve the city of Vancouver seals it for me.

(Video from earlier council meeting)

It’s time to close the books and show these people the door.

We do not need to be threatened into coughing up tax dollars for a new stadium to be owned by a private enterprise “at a time when public services are being cut, a fire station closed, federal grants used to keep cops on the street and the city lacks money to fill all its potholes,” as expressed by Tim Leavitt’s former campaign manager, Temple Lentz as she “questioned the rationality of raising a tax for a stadium.”

Ms. Lentz expressed, “The terms political will and vision were used as qualities to make this happen. But giving $20 million of other people’s money to the first guy who comes up and asks for it is not political will or vision.”

Jim Moeller, Democrats and Unions vs Washington Voters

I can’t really say I was surprised to read in the Columbian: Moeller joins lawsuit to overturn Eyman initiative

Just last year, Tim Eyeman’s Initiative 1053 was passed by voters with a wide 64% margin, requiring a 2/3 majority for the Washington Legislature to be able to rise of impose new taxes upon us.

Democrats including 49th L.D. Jim Moeller and Teachers Unions don’t like that and have filed a lawsuit challenging the initiative in court, seeking to have it overturned.

The Columbian tells us, “Democratic leaders could not get Republicans to support any tax increases this year, forcing lawmakers to balance the budget with heavy cuts to education.”

The article also tells us those heavy cuts “reduces salaries for teachers and classified educational staff by 1.9 percent while slashing pay for administrative staff by 3 percent. It suspends programs designed to keep class sizes low.”

Chris Korsmo, CEO of the League of Education Voters is quoted saying, “Washington’s constitution makes it clear the state’s paramount duty is to ‘make ample provision’ for the education of every child. This statute, and similar measures enacted in recent years, hamstrings our state’s ability to invest in the quality public schools our children need to succeed in life.”

“Investment,” if you recall, is a left-wing catch word for “tax increase.”

The Teachers Union adds that the constitutionally passed initiative (they seem to forget that citizen initiatives are also written into our constitution), “unconstitutionally infringes on the power of the Legislature to pass laws and prevents the state from fulfilling its constitutional obligations to adequately fund education.”

Nowhere is the union and Democrats willing to “share in the sacrifice” by accepting marginal cuts far less than what the private sector has sacrificed since this Great Recession began.

Other Democrats who have signed on to be able to take more of our hard-earned money and thumb their noses at the constitutionality of the citizen initiative are Laurie Jinkins of Tacoma, David Frockt of Seattle, Reuven Carlyle of Seattle, Deb Eddy of Kirkland, Sam Hunt of Olympia, Timm Ormsby of Spokane, Eric Pettigrew of Seattle, Chris Reykdal of Tumwater, Cindy Ryu of Shoreline and Mike Sells of Everett.

These are names that the middle class taxpayer in Washington State needs to remember next election.

They need reminded that they are elected representatives, not “Diktatoren.”
