‘Hanoi’ Jane Fonda Dis-invited From Speaking Engagement

73 year-old Jane Fonda, a name that causes many Veterans, especially of the Vietnam War much angst, has been dis-invited from a speaking engagement she had accepted HERE. She was to speak New Hampshire Women’s Leadership Summit scheduled for June 10 at Nashua Community College, but due to several Veteran’s expressing outrage at the invitation, college president Lucille Jordan “dis-invited” the aging actress.

Dr. Annabel Beerel, founder of the summit wrote,

“In recent days, we have heard voices in our community expressing moving objections to the selection of our main keynote speaker. While the summit encourages public discourse and diverse opinions, we do not wish to cause pain to our veterans. In addition to the many outstanding presenters and panels scheduled, we are working on engaging a new keynote (speaker) for the conference.”

Air Force Veteran Roland Petersen, 72 and one of the Veterans who opposed the invitation said,

“I’m delighted. We accomplished our goal. I wanted the publicity because I don’t want anybody in the country considering honoring her.”

Fonda, who traveled to North Vietnam in 1972, while were still engaged with them, spoke against the US effort in assisting South Vietnam, had her photograph taken where she gleefully smiled sitting on an anti-aircraft gun used to shoot down American aircraft and was well known for her setting up “coffee-shops” outside of U.S. Military installations to encourage to desert the Military.

Although she claims to have apologized, she has never apologized to the hundreds of thousands of Veterans she offended and demoralized. She has offered only hollow words of “regret” for the photo having been taken.

As a Vietnam Veteran myself, I too am pleased that the Nashua Community College saw fit to place America’s Veteran’s over this traitor’s invitation. Fonda has never regretted her complicity in prolonging the conflict and costing many more lives to be lost, American and Vietnamese both.

Although many who never served do not share our views and feel she should be forgiven, one cannot be forgiven until they express regret for such actions as she took. Many Americans say they hold no grudge and don’t see what the big deal is.

The big deal is, it isn’t up to America to forgive her actions, it’s up to Vietnam Veterans, the ones she besmirched and she hasn’t asked us yet.

Vancouver Mayor, Council Members ‘Irked’ Over Public Records Request

The ongoing saga of Vancouver City Council versus the citizens of Vancouver was elevated up a few notches with a request made under Washington Public Records Law.

The Zero Reports;

“Members of the Vancouver City Council, six of them the subject of a public records request for months of email correspondence, lamented the wide net cast by the request and the cost of the request to the city at a council meeting Monday.”

“Mitch Copp of Vancouver filed two public disclosure requests with the city earlier this year. The first, filed in January, asks for all of Mayor Tim Leavitt and Councilman Jack Burkman’s email correspondence from June 1 to Jan. 11. The second, filed in March, asks for email correspondence for council members Larry Smith, Jeanne Harris, Pat Campbell and Bart Hansen.”

“The number of documents we’re talking about can number in the tens of thousands, and every one of those documents has to be read by somebody to determine whether it’s disclosable or not,” Vancouver City Manager Eric Holmes said. “We will be responsible to those to fulfill our responsibility under the statute, but it is a pretty substantial burden on our staff resources.”

Leavitt, still licking his chops over successfully modifying citizens speaking rights before the ruling class said, “It’s going to cause a use of city dollars and resources we could otherwise be putting out on the streets in the form of police officers and firefighters.”

This from the same Mayor who doesn’t have a problem hanging the albatross of the Columbia River Crossing Project, including Portland’s financially failing Loot Rail around future generations necks.

Perhaps he shouldn’t have lied to voters on opposing tolls to be elected Mayor.

Pete the Banker: US at Fiscal Tipping Point

“The United States is on a fiscal path towards insolvency and policymakers are at a “tipping point,” a Federal Reserve official said on Tuesday.
“If we continue down on the path on which the fiscal authorities put us, we will become insolvent, the question is when,” Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Richard Fisher said…”

To Curb Gang Violence, Portland Mayor Advocates Restrictions on Law-Abiding Citizens

Responding to a rash of gang related shootings in Portland, Mayor Adams and gun control advocates are calling for “tougher background checks” in an effort to curb the gang shootings.

Always citing some unnamed “serious loopholes that allow unqualified people to buy guns,” Adams “endorsed a bill introduced by New York U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer intended to close the loopholes,” whatever they are.

Teressa Raiford, cousin of one victim that was shot and killed last year said, “It is too easy for people in Oregon to buy illegal guns.”

Not explained by any of the members of the inaccurately named “Mayors Against Illegal Guns,” they are against ALL guns, not just illegal guns, is how a background check applies to the passing back and forth of stolen and illegal guns on street corners by gang members across the nation.

Invoking Jared Loughner, the mentally disturbed shooter who shot Az. Rep Gabrielle Giffords in January, we are told that he “should have been barred from buying the guns used in the incident because he was an admitted drug user. But he passed two background checks because the federal database used to check gun buyers did not have that information.”

Not stated was the efforts to give him a pass on his mental state and keep his several run-ins with law enforcement out of his record, which would have placed him on a “no-buy list.”

We also read that Schumer’s bill “would also require private gun sellers to verify, either through law enforcement agencies or licensed firearm dealers that people buying their guns are not on the list.”

Do you think “King Kool’ and ‘Dirty Duke’ on the street corner dealing drugs, establishing their turf for their gang and passing stolen or illegal guns to each other will consult a “no-buy list?”

Last year Adams proposed changes designed to “get guns out of youths’ hands,” by imposing special curfew for juveniles found by a court to have violated gun laws, prevent juveniles who have shown a disregard for gun laws from becoming involved in nighttime gun violence, provides police a tool to intervene with a juvenile who has shown disregard for gun laws when the child is out in public during times of increased gun misuse and create incentive for State prosecution of juvenile firearm offenses.

As I understand it, Oregon Law says it is already illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to own a handgun and in order to buy ammunition for it, you must be 21. To purchase a handgun from a licensed dealer, they must be 21.

The Zero tells us, “The city recently enacted five new gun-control laws aimed at curbing gun-violence, particularly among juveniles.”

If more gun control laws will curb gun violence by gang members and other criminals, wouldn’t the new laws have prevented the latest shootings?

All gun laws are only followed by legal, law-abiding gun owners. Criminals, by nature, don’t follow the law.

May I suggest to Mayor Adams, if you really wish to curb gin violence in Portland by criminals and gang members, why not write and enforce an ordinance requiring criminals to obey the law and then, make shooting people against the law too.

That will have just much effect on criminals as will efforts to “close this so-called, yet unnamed” loophole.

The problem is not guns in the hands of responsible, law-abiding citizens.

The problem is the criminal!
