"Together We Thrive" Used by Organizing for America in 2008

We all saw the theme branded to last evenings “Together We Thrive” Memorial/Campaign Pep Rally in Tucson, Arizona, complete with T-Shirts and other Souvenirs. Much speculation is ongoing about that these and just who paid for all of those T-Shirts and other souvenirs.

No one is saying just yet, but a February 2008 post in the Organizing for America blogs featured that exact theme (title if you will).

Even the buses were emblazoned with “Together We Thrive” as their destination.

Coincidence? Organized effort? For right now, who knows for sure? The university claims they paid $60,000 for the T-Shirts and a student designed them. HERE

Portland’s Crazy Train Pulls Into the Station! **With Update!

And now a word from my In Box ((** Joe the Small Business Owner responds facts and logic below):

Ms. Taft, you have been such a rabid proponent of the TEA PARTY, Conservative, Anti-government, Anti President, pro Sara Palin, we gotta take our country back movement. I would really enjoy hearing your explanation of your perceived outcome of  the movement you have so vigorously championed for so long. Lets take for example, this week six people are being buried in Tuscon, Az. An American Congresswoman is fighting for her life. This same congresswoman has had a target ” Bullseye” on her congressional map, that was offered up by your idol Sara Palin, since March of last year.  That’s at least one enemy  down, right ? One step closer to the desired task of shrinking the government, taking Your country back. My question  to you  Ms. Taft,   is whose task is it exactly to take Your country back ? Who is suppose to do this ? The reason I ask is, the person who is lying in a hospital bed  fighting for her life, again had a target on her supplied by Ms. Palin, the leader of your movement.  She was literally ” taken out”, and you and your ilk is calling foul. You’re calling the shooter crazy, you’ve thrown him under the bus big time. Wasn’t that the desired outcome, to take out, defeat, use second amendment remedies, in case the ballot didn’t work ? Why aren’t you shouting to high heaven, claiming  Victory ?  But instead your calling your good soldier crazy. Please explain…

I for the life of me, do not know how a rational person can kill another person,  no matter how much you disagree with that person.  My comment to this person, is this is not the fault of the Tea Party.  It is not Sarah Palin.  You could use this example and say it Obama’s fault for telling people to bring a gun, to a knife fight.  I am not a fan of Obama, but I would not draw the conclusion he was responsible for this.  If the writer of this is a true liberal, they will dismiss this in the first place because it does not allow for them to  blame someone other than the perpetrator of the crime. and especially someone they disagree with .  I find it odd, that the liberals want to blame, and the conservatives actually are concerned or sypathetic as to what actually happend, regardless of political party.  A man that was deranged showed up and shot a politician, because of his belief, or vendetta or what ever it is that irritated him .  It is not Victoria Taft’s fault, it is not Sarah Palin’s fault, it is the responsibility of the person that committed the attack.  That person is a human not an animal, and must be allowed to take consequences for the decision he made.  No one made it for him.  Not me, not Palin, not Rush, not Chris Matthews,  not Jeanine what ever the hell her last name is, not any of them.  If your deranged and now were going to hear it was the guns fault, but if their were no guns then maybe he would have used a rock, or a golf club, or bow and arrow, or whatever.   If their were cross hairs on a map, as you want to believe, and that made this person do it, then you really dismiss humans, because we are all responsible for the decision we make as individuals.
Try to understand this, the person that pulled the trigger made a decision to do this.  I do not care the reason he made this decision, because he made the decisision.  A normal personal does not kill anyone…Plain and simple…no matter who tells them to do whatever, and I do not think anyone told him to do this….Please give me a break

Wellstone Memorial Lacked Tucson Pep Rally Amenities: Branding, Logo and T Shirts

At least the Wellstone Memorial didn’t hand out T shirts and try to brand the memorial before it became a pep rally. They just can’t help themselves. More on the program today. Read more on it here. See Lew’s post below.

Obama’s Arizona Speech

 2012 Campaign Slogan?

While I still disapprove of his policies and many of his actions, and probably always will, I have to give Barack Obama credit when credit is due. While I didn’t hear the speech he delivered, I did read the transcript and if liberals take note, maybe they will begin ratcheting down their vitriol we all have seen since Saturday.

Booing of Governor Brewer was uncalled for as was the more festive atmosphere reminiscent more of a Pep Rally before Obama spoke, complete with souvenir T-Shirts, than a Memorial for 6 people murdered.

I believe he could have come out more strongly against the vitriol and rhetoric seen this week, but his speech seems to be a step in the right direction. Some excerpts from the transcript after the jump,

You see, when a tragedy like this strikes, it is part of our nature to demand explanations – to try to impose some order on the chaos, and make sense out of that which seems senseless. Already we’ve seen a national conversation commence, not only about the motivations behind these killings, but about everything from the merits of gun safety laws to the adequacy of our mental health systems. Much of this process, of debating what might be done to prevent such tragedies in the future, is an essential ingredient in our exercise of self-government.

But at a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized – at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do – it’s important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.

Scripture tells us that there is evil in the world, and that terrible things happen for reasons that defy human understanding. In the words of Job, “when I looked for light, then came darkness.” Bad things happen, and we must guard against simple explanations in the aftermath.

For the truth is that none of us can know exactly what triggered this vicious attack. None of us can know with any certainty what might have stopped those shots from being fired, or what thoughts lurked in the inner recesses of a violent man’s mind.

So yes, we must examine all the facts behind this tragedy. We cannot and will not be passive in the face of such violence. We should be willing to challenge old assumptions in order to lessen the prospects of violence in the future.

But what we can’t do is use this tragedy as one more occasion to turn on one another. As we discuss these issues, let each of us do so with a good dose of humility. Rather than pointing fingers or assigning blame, let us use this occasion to expand our moral imaginations, to listen to each other more carefully, to sharpen our instincts for empathy, and remind ourselves of all the ways our hopes and dreams are bound together.

If this tragedy prompts reflection and debate, as it should, let’s make sure it’s worthy of those we have lost. Let’s make sure it’s not on the usual plane of politics and point scoring and pettiness that drifts away with the next news cycle.

The balls in your court, liberals.  Will you all tone it down? Or continue escalating and driving us further to the brink of ruin?
