Why Don’t We Call it Oregon’s Own "CAIR" Community College Instead of Lane CC

Barry Sommer is now lawyered up with the ACLJ. Let’s help them out (here).
CAIR telling Lane Community College that Barry Sommer can’t teach a class on Islam is like Hitler telling Bonhoeffer not to preach about truth.
Look for my interviews with Sommer and Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugged blog here. See stories here and here.

3…2…1.. Aaaand Cue the Beggars!

Like clockwork, mere hours after the Surgeon General made this absurd assertion paraphrased by the AP, “Just one puff on that cigarette could be the one that causes your heart attack,” the professional beggars class (government and its hangers on) has made an equally absurd assertion, “Oregon Health Advocates Say New Surgeon General’s Report on Immediate Harm from Smoking/Secondhand Smoke Shows Need to Increase Tobacco Tax.”  Right.

La la la We Can’t Hear You! Clackamas County Votes to Tax CARS to Pay for Light Rail (and Maybe the Sellwood Bridge)

Clackamas County Commissioners unanimously vote for car tax saying the hundreds of taxpayers who showed up to meetings, commissioned polls, and wrote letters didn’t outnumber the Portland bike/light rail/planner class.

The story is here. Here’s the nut ‘graph:

The commission had heard from a vocal contingent of opposition to the fee increase during a three-part public hearing, but counted a larger number in support of the fee, including correspondence and phone calls.

One phone call from a bike enthusiast equals ten protesters.

Mr. Why: Tri Met’s Paid Blogger

She’s not just the “Manager of Project Communications at TriMet,” she’s a commenter at blogs and newspapers around the area! See, your money is, er, well spent by hiring a woman, an ardent lefty, who called two speakers against lightrail at a recent meeting, “teaba****s.” Stay classy, Diane. See her recent postings:

As a point of context, 50 percent of the project is funded by the Federal Transit Administration. The local funding partners include the state of Oregon, the Oregon Department of Transportation, Metro, Clackamas County, the cities of Portland and Milwaukie, TriMet and the Portland Development Commission. TriMet’s contribution is less than 5 percent of the total project costs. The action by the board was to approve the future sale of bonds. TriMet is not currently contributing to the project’s funding and won’t start until Fiscal Year 13.

Re: TriMet board approval clears way for Milwaukie light-rail construction
The Project funding includes a $745 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration that would not come to this region but for this project. State and regional partners have made this project a priority and also are contributing.TriMet share is less than 5 percent of the total project cost and would not begin until FY13.

As noted, the project will not solve congestion in this corridor, because more and more drivers are being added to the region and will take the place of people taking transit, walking and biking. It will give our citizens a faster, cheaper and more environmentally friendly travel option to driving the highly congested McLoughlin Corridor and the option to reduce their transportation costs.

Repeal of DADT Blocked in Senate

Senate Democrats failed today to gain enough votes to overcome the filibuster on the so called ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy, which allows Gays to serve in the US Military as long as they keep their preference to themselves.

The final vote was 57-40, mostly along party lines.

See The Hill and the Seattle Times for more info.

Maybe now we can get to more serious and pressing issues affecting the nation.
