Dan Rather Comes to Portland to Talk About…

Human trafficking of girls. If you want to help fight this, btw, you can go here to Shared Hope International which has been doing this kind of work for YEARS now. Other start up groups are coming along but Linda Smith has been saving girls sold into sexual slavery for years. She literally rescues them. For the past few years she’s been focusing her attention on local sex slavery issues and has written a book, “Renting Lacy.” Tough read but worth it.
We thought we’d heard the last of Dan but here’s an excerpt from his show:

Obama’s Illegal Alien Aunt Gets Asylum

The basis for her asylum request was never made public. People who seek asylum must show that they face persecution in their homeland on the basis of religion, race, nationality, political opinion or membership in a social group.
“The asylum process is confidential and she wants to keep it that way, so we can’t get into details on why the judge granted asylum or the exact basis for her claim,” said her attorney Scott Bratton. He added: “She doesn’t want people to feel sorry for her.”
Another lawyer, Margaret Wong of Cleveland, said last year that Onyango first applied for asylum “due to violence in Kenya.” The East African nation is fractured by cycles of electoral violence every five years.
Medical issues also could have played a role. In a November interview with The Associated Press, Onyango said she was disabled and was learning to walk again after being paralyzed from Guillain-Barre syndrome, an autoimmune disorder.
Onyango moved to the United States in 2000. Her first asylum request was rejected, and she was ordered deported in 2004. But she didn’t leave the country and continued to live in public housing in Boston

Westboro Hate Mongers Coming to the Northwest

From a Columbian article appearing over the weekend Gay-bashing church plans picketing at Heritage High

According to the Columbian,

“But the visit would cap a string of Portland-area events that bridge the Memorial Day weekend, listed on the group’s website.
Starting May 28, the group plans to picket five Jewish synagogues and centers; a Catholic church; a Bible church; and the large New Hope Community Church near Clackamas, Ore.
Early June 1, the group will picket Portland’s Grant High School before the first bell, the website shows.
That same day, it will gather at Heritage from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m., chiefly “to picket the rebellious brats and lying teachers,”

A letter from hate mongers attorney,

“lays out the group’s plan and its “peaceful and law-abiding manner.” It spells out expectations that police provide a safe environment, including a “dead zone” to buffer the group from possible threats.”

It is my opinion that Sheriff Gary Lucas should supply them their “safe zone” next to the sewerage treatment facility on Lower River Road.

Supreme Court: Sex Offenders Can Be Held After Their Sentences Expire

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court said Monday that the federal government can keep “sexually dangerous” prisoners in custody past the completion of their sentences, overruling arguments that only states hold such power.

The ruling was 7-2, with Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas in dissent.

Wall Street Journal

The high court reversed a lower court decision that said Congress overstepped its authority in allowing indefinite detentions of considered “sexually dangerous.”

“The statute is a ‘necessary and proper’ means of exercising the federal authority that permits Congress to create federal criminal laws, to punish their violation, to imprison violators, to provide appropriately for those imprisoned and to maintain the security of those who are not imprisoned by who may be affected by the federal imprisonment of others,” said Justice Stephen Breyer, writing the majority opinion.

President George W. Bush in 2006 signed the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, which authorized the civil commitment of sexually dangerous federal inmates.
