Lefty Declares "Man Made" Global Warming Movement Dead

Due to “bad science and bad politics.” More later on the show. Here’s the piece.  Nut ‘graf:

After years in which global warming activists had lectured everyone about the overwhelming nature of the scientific evidence, it turned out that the most prestigious agencies in the global warming movement were breaking laws, hiding data, and making inflated, bogus claims resting on, in some cases, no scientific basis at all. This latest story in the London Times is yet another shocker; the IPCC’s claims that the rainforests were going to disappear as a result of global warming are as bogus and fraudulent as its claims that the Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035.  It seems as if a scare story could grab a headline, the IPCC simply didn’t care about whether it was reality-based.

M 66 & 67 Fall Out: Keizer Coffee Shop Says, No Mas!

H/T: Teresa who sent this via Facebook: The Victoria Taft Show
This from the Keizer Times:

Coffee Paradigm has closed

Published: February 1, 2010

A locally owned business has announced it’s closing the doors.
Coffee Paradigm has closed, according to owner Teresa Sepmeyer. She informed her e-mail subscriber list of the news Monday morning. It’s been open around three years.
She said she’d been trying to keep the shop open, but didn’t see the economy getting better anytime soon and said the tax measures passed last week were just going to make things “worse rather than better. So I thought it was time.
“Thank you very much for their support while we were in business,” Sepmeyer said. “There’s just so many people I’ve befriended here that I’m going to miss greatly.”
The River Road store employed five people.

Progressive Canadian Premier Comes to U.S. For Surgery

Danny Williams, the popular Progressive Premier of Newfoundland has opted to bypass the Canadian health system and travel to the U.S. to undergo heart surgery, his Deputy premier Kathy Dunderdale has confirmed.

Raising eyebrows over his shunning of Canada’s socialized health care, she explained, “It was never an option offered to him to have this procedure done in this province.”

She reportedly refused to answer whether the procedure was available anywhere else in Canada.

Should Democrats succeed in forcing Obamacare on us, as they are trying desperately to resurrect, would the procedure become unavailable to all but the richest or elite Democrats in the U.S.?

Another thought, why would he not travel to Cuba or any number of European nations, all being touted by Democrats as having so much better health care than America offers?

Oregon Democrats Plot Job Killing Plastic Bag Ban. Great Job, Democrats!!

Apparently it wasn’t SAVING jobs that Oregon democrats were talking about when they proclaimed this (illegal) session would be about, “Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!” It was about destroying them.

True to form then, after charting the course for 20% tax increases on business and individuals along with a sales tax on widgets made by corporations, the democrats are in Salem seeking to destroy a whole industry: the plastic bag industry in Oregon.
And so today at a hearing in Salem good intentions once again were trotted out as a policy answer to a perceived “problem” with plastic bags in Oregon. The latest politico in Oregon to take up the cause against plastic bags is Senator Mark Hass. This should go down as the moment when Senator Hass, who heretofore has been upheld by the left as one of its brightest lights, had his ‘lights’ snuffed out by facts and logic.
  • Senator Hass today in Salem claimed Oregon’s plastic bag industry uses 150,000 barrels of oil to create plastic grocery bags. The folks who actually  make plastic grocery bags say the bags are made from “ethane which is a waste product from domestically produced natural gas. If the ethane is not used to make plastic bags, it will have to be burned off.”
  • Senator Hass said that sea turtles and sea mammals eat plastic bags, but the folks who have actually investigated this say the sea turtle pictured (see nearby) is the only case in which this has been alleged. Sea mammals HAVE been pictured, however, eating plastic “netting,” not plastic bags.
  • Senator Hass said that nobody recycles plastic bags, but considering plastic grocery bags are made from recycled materials also and can be returned to the store to be further recycled, that hardly seems like a logical argument.
  • Senator Hass said today that plastic bags don’t decompose. That is true. But they also sequester carbon. Paper bags emit methane when they decompose.
  • Senator Hass said plastic bags clog up land fills. That’s what land fills are for: waste. Plastic bags take up a wee spot. 0.4% of landfills are plastic bags.
And that’s just for openers.
What about the potential for killing jobs in Oregon? Here are some of companies in Oregon that make plastic bags. A couple you’ll see don’t make “grocery” bags but other kinds. One makes bags for the international market. All have been hurt by misguided plastic bag bans.

Unions Go After Tea Party …

The SEIU, AFSCME and other unions have thrown their considerable weight behind a new website and a political campaign to destroy the Tea Party movement.
The website (which I will not link here) calls the Tea Party movement a “fad,” “radical right wing,” and interested only in, “state’s rights.” The effort to swipe the racialist reference is the go to position for the left, so it is worth noting that the last time these purple shirted thugs went after the Tea Partiers it was to beat up a conservative black man selling items at a Tea Party.
This is the same astroturfing campaign these same organizations funded against Walmart and I suppose others. Former democrat operatives were deployed to spread lies about Walmart via website and politicos who were so inclined bought into them, hook, line and sinker. Think Sam Adams.

Christmas Bomber: Potential Intel of Other Bombings Lost When Mirandized

And last night on the show, Marc Theissen, former Bush and Rummy speechwriter, whose new book, “Courting Disaster,” has become the go to book to get the inside account of what really happened in interrogations at Gitmo, said blood would be on the hands of Eric Holder–and Barack Obama–if there’s another attack. Under this new policy the US has gone from treating radical Islamic terrorists as combatants to treating them like some perp who tried to knock over a 7/11.

Theissen (www.courtingdisaster.com) says this change in policy foreclosed the possibility of getting as much intel out Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab as we might have. FBI officers questioned him for only 50 minutes. The DNI, CIA WERE NOT CALLED! Here’s a guy with fresh intel from a newly constituted band of bad actors in Yemen, with new leadership, new operational organization and we just let him lawyer up. As Theissen noted on the show, Al Qaeda expected this guy to have been vaporized in the attack, but we have him ALIVE and we don’t spend time plumbing the depths of his knowledge about a new group we didn’t know about successfully sending suicide bomber[s] to our shores? That’s not just dumb, that is spectacularly dangerous!
Ironically, in a piece co authored with frequent Victoria Taft Show guest, David Rivkin, Theissen finds that the Obama administration has gone to court to uphold enhanced interrogations. So what gives? Here’s a link to the piece in today’s Wall Street Journal.  And here’s the nut ‘graf illustrating the untenable position the new Obama administration posture on enemy combatant civilian trials has wrought,

On Dec. 18, 2009, days before the Christmas attack, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, made a secret filing in federal district court that was aimed at saving the prosecution of Ahmed Ghailani, another al Qaeda terrorist. Ghailani is facing charges for helping al Qaeda bomb U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. Ghailani argues that those charges should be dropped because lengthy CIA interrogations have denied him his constitutional right to a speedy trial.

Now the Weekly Standard has delved into the Christmas bombing interrogation story and found that a willing press is allowing the administration to change the story line etc THREE TIMES.
Stephen Hayes writes (Here) says the first account of the questioning from the AP morphed over time. In a material and dramatic difference between the original Obama Administration story, the Washington Post later claim Abdulmutallab clammed up before he was mirandized,

In a story published last Friday, the Washington Post attempted the first rewrite, claiming that new details suggest “that Abdulmutallab, 23, clammed up even before he was informed of his right to remain silent — a warning that could have come later had he been placed in military custody.”

Then Hayes notes,

That’s a key difference.  In the AP account, a clean team is sent in to Mirandize Abdulmutallab.  In the Post account, Abdulmutallab asks for a lawyer on his own and “FBI agents then read him his rights.”

The LA Times obligingly picked up the new story  as Hayes notes in his piece,

And in the LA Times piece, like the Post piece, the chronology has changed.  According to the Times: “The source said that Abdulmutallab was not read his rights until he made it clear that he was not going to say anything else.”

Hayes throws his lot in with the original story by the AP,

The AP story — the first and most thorough — provides the obvious answer: the second team of FBI agents was a “clean team,” sent in with the express purpose of Mirandizing Abdulmutallab so that his statements might be used by prosecutors.

Hayes says he hopes that maybe we’ll get some answers today when Panetta et. al., are questioned on capitol hill. Of course, Panetta’s CIA spooks weren’t called in till it was too late.
Tom Joscelyn, writing in the Weekly Standard (Here) wanted Abdulmutallab’s questioners to ask about this little tidbit,

as many as 36 American ex-convicts arrived in Yemen in the past year, ostensibly to study Arabic. The officials said there are legitimate reasons for Americans and others to study and live in Yemen, but they said some of the Americans had disappeared and are suspected of having gone to Al Qaeda training camps in ungoverned portions of the impoverished country

Emphasis is all Tom’s.
It would have been nice to know if the Eunich Bomber knew anything about this. Woulda, coulda, shoulda… Yep, that sounds like the Obama “strategy” in the war on terror alright.
