Chessani: Innocent—Again—-in the Phony Haditha "Massacre"

He’ll be dragged through the mud again—why let the guy go when the liberals have a story about a phony “massacre” to uphold?–but right now Lt. Col Jeffrey Chessani has been found innocent and had the charges dropped against him AGAIN by yet another court. He’s the only one of the original Marines charged in the matter who is still in court–the rest of the Marines have been found INNOCENT of this manufactured story about a “massacre.”
His attorneys at the Thomas More Law Center (send them money here) said of the case:

For the last four years, Lt Col Chessani has been investigated and prosecuted for his involvement in the so called “Haditha Massacre” – a massacre that never happened. A 22-year veteran, Chessani has served three tours of duty in Iraq. He served in the First Persian Gulf War and in Panama. At the time of the November 19, 2005 Haditha incident, he was the Battalion Commander of 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines (“The Thundering Third”) – one of the most decorated units in the history of the Marine Corps.
Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, observed, “Lt Col Chessani, one of the most effective combat commanders we had in Iraq, was a made political scapegoat by the civilians in the Pentagon to appease the antiwar politicians and a liberal media. In fact, we now know that the story of the ‘massacre’ that prompted the Haditha prosecutions was a headline in a Time news article instigated by insurgent propaganda operatives.”
Continued Thompson, “This nation has come to the point where we can’t call terrorists captured on the battlefield ‘enemy combatants.’ We release the terrorists out of Guantanamo and prosecute the military our country placed in harms’ way to defend us.”

Lt Col Chessani is the highest ranking officer facing criminal charges as a result of the much-publicized and ill-described “Haditha massacre.” The criminal charges against him stem from a legitimate combat action taken by four enlisted Marines in his command after they were ambushed by insurgents in Haditha, Iraq, on November 19, 2005. Their actions resulted in the deaths of several ambushing insurgents. Unfortunately and tragically, several civilians were also killed in the house-clearing operation.

Even though LtCol Chessani wasn’t present during the incident, he was criminally charged with failing to launch a full investigation into the incident. If convicted, he faces 2 ½ years imprisonment, dismissal from the Corps, and loss of all of his retirement pay.

The essential holding of the military appellate court was as follows: “We are convinced the Government failed to meet its burden of demonstrating, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the proceedings were untainted by the appearance of UCI (Unlawful Command Influence). We are similarly convinced that an objective, disinterested observer, fully informed of all the facts and circumstances, would harbor significant doubt about the fairness of this proceeding.”

This decision could be appealed to the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (CAAF) and then even to the U.S. Supreme Court. The government has yet to announce whether it will pursue another appeal.

Fellow blogger Rees Lloyd chimes in:

It should be remembered that Democrat Congressman John Murtha, a former Marine himself and now a Nancy Pelosi-poodle, disgraced himself by calling Col. Chessani and his fellow Marines “cold blooded murderers” before any investigation had been done other than hysterical false reporting by the media over what they branded the “Haditha Massacre,” now proved not to be any “massacre” at all.
Although not one of the eight Marines charged has been convicted of wrongdoing, but, on the contrary, charges have been dismissed, Murtha has refused to apologize. The American Legion Dept. of California unanimously passed a resolution at its Convention 2008 condemning Murtha and calling for him to apologize. Now, the country should condemn Murtha, demand that he apologize, and thank Col. Chessani for his brave, loyal, and honorable military service to his country.

Col.Chessani, and the Thomas More Law Center deserve a salute from a grateful nation for this most important victory over injustice.

Why The Zero Could Be the Next Paper to Go the Way of the PI

Certainly there will always be cross over in the beliefs and mores of the Liberatti and the local rag functionaries, but this should be a cautionary tale for the Oregonian. Stories like this as told by a 5th Listener should explain why people don’t like the Zero much anymore:

Hi Victoria,

On Sunday morning, about 8:30 AM, I drove from Beaverton to downtown, on my way to Sellwood. Downtown was closed off for the morning, and all of the bridges except the Fremont were closed. I was re-routed to OHSU, and from there a policeman sent me over the hill toward the Burnside Bridge . That bridge was also guarded and blocked by a policeman. He was very nice, and re-directed me to the Fremont Bridge . A simple ½ hour drive took over an hour and a half. What was the city thinking when it decided to close every bridge but one?

It seems to me that the planning for traffic for the Shamrock Run lacked forethought. Suppose I was on my way to Sellwood for an emergency? Why was this year any different than past years when cars and runners passed by each other without incident? Why isn’t the Shamrock Run, or any other run routed like the cars were up and around OHSU (lots less traffic, very pretty and safer). When there is going to be road work, ODOT puts up signs ahead of time warning of closures; shouldn’t this have been done for the race.

I called the news room of the Oregonian as I was driving from one road block to the next to tell them what was going on because I thought it might make a good story. I told the man who answered the phone ( I wish I had asked for his name) that a traffic jam of vehicles was being re-routed all around the hills of Portland to one bridge. As soon as I told him what was happening, he was very rude to me. He said, “If we had our way, the whole downtown would be closed every weekend” He followed that with, “what makes you think we would care about this?” I asked him how people like me would get to the other side of the river. He told me to take Max. I told him I had nothing against taking Max from time to time, but many times it isn’t possible, and often it is time prohibitive. He told me that I was the only one who was complaining, and if I read the paper I would have known about the closures. I told him I subscribe to the paper, but that there was nothing saying that all but one bridge would be closed. He was very disrespectful, and I tried very hard to talk to him. He just wanted to argue, and wanted to tell me how I should live my life.

I thought that the Oregonian is neutral and covers all points of view. Ha Ha! If my experience is any indication of how the employees think, then I guess I am wrong. This only proves once more that we no longer have a paper we can count on for news.

I’m glad you are still on air fighting for what is right.

Is Abortion Now a Carbon Offset for Life? Watch This Argument About Reducing Your Reproductive Carbon Footprint. Oy

Writing for the scientific journal Global Environmental Change, two academics at Oregon State University – Paul Murtaugh and Michael Schlax – identify this lifestyle change in a paper entitled “Reproduction and the Carbon Legacies of Individuals.” In this treatise they attempt to quantify, in their words, “the carbon legacy of an individual,” and to examine “how it is affected by the individual’s reproductive choices,” based on the premise that “a person is responsible for the carbon emissions of his descendants, weighted by their relatedness to him.” So what did they find?
The two researchers calculated that a woman in the United States would reduce her lifetime CO2 emissions by about 486 tons if she implemented the green-approved household and transportation activities mentioned previously. But they estimate that if she were to have just one child, that child, over its lifetime, would eventually release nearly 20 times more CO2 to the atmosphere than the reductions achieved by its mother via her more mundane green activities.

What’s in it for ME? Obama Touts "Stimulus" in Oregon and Washington

From my Obama missive this evening (quoting OPB no less):

Millions of dollars in federal stimulus funds are now available in Oregon and Washington for public lands projects. The money is expected to create hundreds of jobs. The U.S. Forest Service will start awarding $10 million in contracts this week for hazardous fuel reduction projects in Oregon. That work will go to private companies already under contract with the Forest Service and is expected to employ about a hundred workers. “It’s the kind of work we’ve been doing for many years. Reducing fuel in the fire prone areas, thinning trees out,” says Tom Knappenberger, a spokesman for the Forest Service. “In some cases, it’s mechanical. In other cases, it’s prescribed burns. All the normal tools we use to reduce the fuels in places that are likely to burn and would cause threats to resources.”

NON-VET OBAMA SPARKS FIRESTORM OVER SCREW-VET PROPOSAL: Millions For ACORN, Nada for Vets

President Barack Hussein Obama, the only President in the modern era other than Bill Clinton not to have served the country in the military, has set off a firestorm of angry criticism from veterans over his proposal to try to balance his budget by compelling veterans receiving Veterans Administration care for service-connected injuries to pay for VA services through their private health insurance protecting theirselves and their families in the case of non-service connected injuries or illnesses.
Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion, the largest wartime veterans organization in the world with 1.6-million members in over 14,000 Posts, blasted Obama’s proposal.
“It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan.” Commander Rehbein said. “He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refusedto hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.”
Rehbein, described as very angry after leaving a meeting in the White House with Obama, Chief ofStaff Rahm Emmanuel, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki, and Steven Kosiak of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), stated further:
“This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate ‘to care for him who shall have borne the battle’ given that the United States governement sent members of the armed forces into harm’s way, and not private insurance companies. I say against that the American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connect disability at the very agency that was createdto treat the unique need of America’s veterans.”
Leaders of ten other veterans organizations joined in Rehbein’s oppostion.
While Obama refused to discuss any change in his plan and appears to be going forward with it over veterans objections, the heads of the Veterans Affairs Committees of the House and Senate both immediately issued statements stating that they would refuse to support Obama’s plan, and that it would be “dead on arrival” in their committees.
