Oregon's Pregnant "Man" Hits Big Time This Week
From Willamette Week (here) comes this tidbit: the pregnant "man" hits People Magazine and Oprah this week.
Coming to the US: British Bus Driver Boots Passengers So He Can Pray to Allah
The Sun has the story here.
Ponder These Words. Tell Me What You Think:
From my friend, Rees Lloyd, American Legion, on the issue of illegal immigration:
I wrote a Resolution, "Equal Application Of Selective Service Laws To Illegal Aliens,"which was adopted as national policy of The American Legion by vote of delegates to the 2007 National Convention. The Resolution calls on Congress to enforce the Selective Service Act, which expressly includes "illegal aliens"as among the males residing in the U.S. who must register for the draft between the ages of 18 and 26. However, the government simply does enforce the Selective Service law against illegals.Want to know how to track down the 20-million Mexicans in the U.S.? Simply have the police ask for production of draft cards whenever they make a stop of all males between the ages of 18-26, the same way the cops ask for a driver's license. No draft card; go to jail, and be deported. The ACLU claims it is a constitutional violation for cops to ask about immigration status; no court has held it is a constitutional violation for cops to ask for draft cards.

Move America Forward Requests Investigation of Berkeley

Reposted with permission from Spree at Wake Up America and Melanie Morgan, Chairman of Move America Forward
To show support for the United States Marine Recruitment Center in Berkeley, California, the pro-America group, Move America Forward, has been holding counter protests to the group Code Pink, after the Berkeley City Council passed a resolution declaring the Marines “uninvited and unwelcome intruders,” while granting Code Pink free sound permits and reserving publicly funded parking space in front of the Marines Office.
At a February 12 counter-protest, MAF members, including Patriots, Veterans and Retired Military, were harassed, threatened, and intimidated by anti-war groups, while the Berkeley Police Department stood idly by at a distance, ignoring repeated requests for assistance by MAF members, some of whom were victims of violent acts.
Move America Forward has retained council and has sent a letter to the United States Attorney’s Office requesting an investigation into not only the Berkeley P.D., but the Berkeley City Officials who have “encouraged all people to avoid cooperation with the Marine Corps recruiting station, and applaud residents and organizations such as Code Pink, that may volunteer to impede, passively or actively, by nonviolent means, the work of any military recruiting office located in the City of Berkeley,” impeding the work of a Federal Agency while in the performance of their duties.
Ms. Morgan and Move America Forward issued a Press Release earlier this week announcing their intent to call for the investigation. By permission, the Official Letter sent to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Francisco, California is reproduced below,
BY FEDERAL EXPRESS DELIVERY
Tracking No.: 7984 0570 0813
The Honorable Joseph P. Russoniello
United States Attorney, Northern District of California
11th Floor, Federal Building
450 Golden Gate Avenue, Box 36055
San Francisco, California 94102
Dear Mr. Russoniello:
This Firm represents Move America Forward, Inc. (hereinafter “MAF”), a non-profit organization committed to supporting members of the United States Armed Forces and their families.
Our client participated in what began as a peaceful demonstration in support of the United States Marine Corps Recruiting Center, located on Shattuck Avenue in the City of Berkeley, on February 12, 2008. MAF obtained a permit from the City of Berkeley prior to the demonstration. Sadly, the peaceful demonstration was disrupted with violence. During the demonstration, several incidents occurred which the Berkeley Police Department failed to respond to adequately. MAF supporters were harassed, threatened, and intimidated by opposing groups. In addition, several acts of violence were committed against MAF supporters, and the Berkeley Police Department ignored their repeated requests for assistance. The police failed to protect its citizens during what should have been a peaceful demonstration. These incidents of intimidation, violence, and government inaction were widely reported in both the Bay Area and national media.
Our client also remains concerned that recent legislative action by the Berkeley City Council, which ultimately precipitated the unfortunate events of February 12, 2008, runs afoul of federal law. As you are likely aware, the Berkeley City Council approved a resolution on January 29, 2008, that provided in pertinent part that “the Marine recruiting office is not welcome in [Berkeley], and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders….” The Council then resolved to “encourage all people to avoid cooperation with the Marine Corps recruiting station, and applaud residents and organizations such as Code Pink, that may volunteer to impede, passively or actively, by nonviolent means, the work of any military recruiting office located in the City of Berkeley.” The legacy of this “encouragement” was the shameful events that transpired in Berkeley on February 12, 2008.
The City of Berkeley is actively, through the legislative action by the City Council, encouraging private organizations to disrupt the lawful governmental operations of the United States in the City of Berkeley, by encouraging groups to “impede” the efforts of the United States Marine Corps to recruit qualified young people to serve in the Corps. There is little question that Berkeley, as a college town, is an appropriate place for the Marine Corps to recruit qualified, patriotic young people to serve their country as United States Marines. By encouraging disruptive behavior patently calculated to drive the Marine Corps out of the City of Berkeley, the City Council appears to be soliciting unlawful, and quite possibly criminal, interference with the lawful operations of a federal agency operating within the City of Berkeley.
We hereby request an investigation into the timely lack of response by the City of Berkeley and the Berkeley Police Department during the events of February 12, 2008. In short, the City of Berkeley failed to protect its citizens engaged in the lawful exercise of their rights under both the First Amendment and federal civil rights laws. As you know, these laws fully protect our client’s right to participate in such peaceful expression, and they have the right to be protected from such acts of violence. Further, Move America Forward requests that your office inquire into the legal propriety under applicable federal law of the efforts of the City of Berkeley to “encourage,” through legislative action, organizations actively committed to undermining the ongoing military operations of the United States both at home and abroad to impede the lawful activities of a federal agency operating within the city limits.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
SWEENEY & GREENE LLP
James F. Sweeney
Spree has shown the seriousness of this with her article, The Financial Costs To Berkeley California For Their Anti-Military Stance.
Catherine Moy, Executive Director of Move America Forward says, “That is a blatant misuse of tax dollars and a violation of civil rights,” referring to the privileges granted to anti-war groups, most notably Code Pink.
Melanie Morgan concluded, “Berkeley has got to realize that we’re not going away.”
Kudos’ to Move America Forward and all involved. It is long past time that Patriotic Americans that support our Troops in harm’s way fought back in every legal way possible.

Voter Registration Switch. Time Those Registrations to Drop on April 1st.
Many folks have informed me that they've ALREADY switched their party affiliation to Democrat, but I'm simply asking that you wait to do it on April 1st to make a little bit of a blip. It serves a dual purpose. First it makes a bit of a point for sport and then, after that, of course, allows our votes to count for something. Do Gordon Smith and John McCain really need our votes in the primary? (5th CD voters you stay with R affiliation). No. So why not make your vote count, extend the the primary season (on to Puerto Rico!) and allow the D's to further vet their candidates.
An alert 5th Listener says that he went to Victoria's page at KPAM.COM and got two copies of his voter registration (go here for yours) so that he could change his party affiliation right back after the May 20th Oregon Primary.Good thinking.
I was looking on a search engine this morning for links to the new, national AP story coming out today on this effort (and apparently mentioning me) and when I plugged in my search terms you'll never guess what Google spit out. See here for a laugh.

Calling all Illegal Alien Would-be Anchor Baby Vessels: Oregon Wants to Give You Free Benefits!
The state recently got real about Real ID by beginning changes in who receives a driver's license, but, along with the Day Labor Site for illegal aliens in Cornelius and Portland, paying the rents of illegal aliens awaiting deportation following the Fresh Del Monte raid, the state is EXPANDING a program to allow illegal alien women to give birth to their anchor babies here.
Lookie here at this missive from the state to illegal alien would-be moms. Keep in mind, CAWEH recipients don't need a social security number or other documentation and will be covered even in NON EMERGENCY situations. Here.
CAWEH: Citizen Alien Waived Emergent Medical. But this covers NON emergency procedures.
Audience: Those interested in the pilot that will expand medical benefits to CAWEM pregnant women.
Subject:
A pilot expanding medical services for pregnant CAWEM clients who reside in Multnomah County or Deschutes County will begin April 1. The pilot will use OHP-CHP funding to pay for an enhanced benefit package, called "CAWEM Plus". The CAWEM Plus medical benefit package is a slightly reduced version of the OHP Plus benefit package and will provide pre-natal Medicaid services to pregnant CAWEM women.
Any pregnant CAWEM client is eligible who resides in Multnomah County or Deschutes County, regardless of the Medicaid program used to determine CAWEM eligibility, including MAA CWM, MAF CWM, OPP CWM, etc. If the client moves from Multnomah or Deschutes County, pilot staff will send a timely continuing (10-day) notice of reduction to the client to reduce from the enhanced CAWEM Plus benefits to CAWEM benefits.
New CM system coding, CM notices and Notice Writer notices have been added to support the pilot:
·The CWX case descriptor and need/resource item will trigger the expanded CAWEM Plus benefit package and also will send new CM system notices. Only cases with residential addresses in Multnomah County (FIPS 051) or Deschutes County (FIPS 017) will require the CWX coding.
·Eligibility workers who are not part of the pilot will not have to add the CWX coding when transferring cases into the pilot. When a pregnant CAWEM client moves to Multnomah or Deschutes County, transfer the case to the appropriate branch and change the address at the same time. A report will be created of the transferred cases that will be worked by staff at the OHP Statewide Processing Center (5503). They will add the CWX coding to the CM case.
Back on the Grid...Thanks Lew!
Lew will post on the VT blog when he feels like it. Of course, you can read his blog everyday here. Thanks, Lew, you made me look good.

D.B. Cooper's Parachute Found?
FBI Special Agent Robbie Burroughs stands with a parachute found in North Clark County, Wash., on Tuesday. AP PhotoChildren playing in Amboy discovered an old tattered parachute. At the urging of the children, their Dad contacted the FBI. FBI agent Larry Carr overlaid the family's address onto a map made in the early days of the investigation and learned they lived right in Cooper's most probable landing zone, between Green and Bald mountains.
The FBI is hoping someone with expertise in parachutes will come forward and inspect the remnants they have to determine if it is the type of parachute used by Cooper in 1971, a Navy Backpack 6 with a 26-foot canopy, before beginning to excavate the property.

Is a major Pacific Northwest mystery and America's only unsolved high jacking closer to being solved, 37 years later?
If it is Cooper's parachute, will it just open more questions about how did the money discovered on the banks of the Columbia in Vancouver back in 1980 get there from Amboy?
Do we even want the legend of D.B. Cooper solved?
Hillary's "Misspeak" Catching Up To Her
Says Hillary Clinton,
"I don't remember anyone offering me tea."
"The dictum around the Oval Office in the '90s was: 'If a place was too dangerous, too poor or too small, send the first lady.'"
"As a reminder of the dangers that remained despite the official cease-fire, each of us was required to wear a flak jacket on the plane, and the Secret Service moved Chelsea and me up to the armored cockpit for the landing. Everyone else was told to sit on their bulletproof vests."

Any armor present in the cockpit would be panels around the pilot and co-pilot seats, as is shown above in a photo of a C-17 cockpit.
"There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."
CBS countered this canard with video of her actual departure from the plane and being greeted on the tarmac,
An AP reporter wrote after the trip in 1996,
"Mrs. Clinton chatted with journalists and crewmen during the 90-minute flight, wandering around the spacious plane in a black pantsuit - a contrast to the blue jeans and other road-ready clothes worn by most everybody else on the plane."
"The first lady spent quite a bit of time in the cockpit, with pilot Cheryl Beineke, one of just four female C-17 pilots in the U.S. Air Force."
Today, we hear "So I misspoke," from Senator Hillary Clinton, in explaining all the discrepencies of her "War Story."

Her stories are as bold as any I have heard from Army Aviators I served with. The only difference is, the helicopter pilots I served with start with, "There I was at 500 feet and the grunts back in the bay were knee deep in hand grenade pins. Then......"

Freedom of Religion? Or a Child's Well Being?

Does Freedom of Religion have limits when the well being and health of a child is concerned?
Child's death may put faith law to test
JESSICA BRUDER and DANA TIMS The Oregonian Staff
The case of a 15-month-old Oregon City girl who died for lack of medical treatment could become the first test of a state law that disallows faith healing at the expense of a child's life.
Ava Worthington died March 2 at home from bacterial bronchial pneumonia and infection, according to Dr. Christopher Young, a deputy state medical examiner. He said both conditions could have been prevented or treated with antibiotics.
The child's breathing was further compromised by a benign cyst that had never been medically addressed and could have been removed from her neck, Young said.
Factbox:
Faith healers and Oregon law
Saturday, March 22, 2008
1995: Lobbied by the Christian Science Church, legislators introduce a religious defense to Oregon's homicide statutes, protecting parents who try to heal their children solely with prayer. Parents who could prove to a judge or jury that faith governed their actions became immune from criminal liability, just as others could assert a claim of self-defense or extreme emotional disturbance.
1997: Again at the behest of Christian Scientists, Oregon legislators add religious shields to the state's first- and second-degree manslaughter statutes.
1998: Citing legal immunities for faith healers, the Clackamas County district attorney declines to prosecute the parents of an 11-year-old diabetic boy who died after the couple withheld medical treatment in favor of prayer. Her decision, which conflicted with the state attorney general's interpretation of the law, sparked a statewide controversy.
1999: After months of debate, legislators dissolved parents' legal defense for treating sick children only with prayer. The new law eliminated religious protections in cases of second-degree manslaughter, first- and second-degree criminal mistreatment and nonpayment of child support.
Does the state have the moral right and authority to interceed with a person's faith when a child is involved?

Democrat--Dummocrat? For a Day. Pretend it's Not Happening D's.
Time Magazine weighs in (here):Other talk radio hosts have taken up the cause. In Oregon, where voters must register by party by April 29 to vote in the May 20 primary, conservative talk radio host Victoria Taft has been pushing Republicans to re-register as "dummocrats." Election officials are seeing an increase in switchers, but voters' motives may not be divined until the Oregon exit polls are released. Meanwhile, Limbaugh opened his program Wednesday with a victory cry: "Operation Chaos is exceeding all objectives... this is just fabulous." Dubbing the Obama-Clinton face-off a "soap opera," Limbaugh says he will carry his campaign through to the final primaries in early June.
Forest Grove checks in here:
Register Guard here.Victoria Taft, KPAM radio’s conservative talk show host, is encouraging GOP voters to change their registrations and vote for Clinton. Will that have much effect?
Dondero: The pattern so far across the nation suggests GOP turnout will be lower than normal and that the “Vote for Hillary” tactic will be marginal in a close primary state.
What about the idea that no interest in the primary hurts you in November? Is there any chance that a big contingent of Oregon’s Republican voters will sit out the whole election cycle?
Moore: The long months between the primary and the general election generally mean that the dynamics of the primary are forgotten by September. Then it becomes a contest of candidates, issues, and voter turnout – all completely divorced from the dynamics of the primary.
The party-switching movement picked up momentum last week — first when conservative talk radio host Victoria Taft encouraged it and then on Sunday when Oregonian columnist Dave Reinhard picked up on the “Democrat for a Day” campaign. Both commentators are encouraging Republicans to reregister as Democrats before the April 29 deadline so they can vote for the other party’s presidential candidate whom they believe gives Republican nominee-in-waiting John McCain the best chance of victory in November.
It turns out that many GOP voters were making the switch even before the “Democrat for a Day” — or “dummocrat” as Taft puts it — movement got going.

Why Iraq? Five Years Later...
From Investors Business Daily here:
"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." — Sen. Ted Kennedy, on Sept. 27, 2002.
"It is clear . . . that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." — Sen. Hil-lary Clinton, Oct. 10, 2002.
"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." — Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002.
We could go on and on. Others said similar things. Suffice to say, support at the time for "doing something" about Iraq was wide and deep. They even egged Bush on, urging him to get tough. Then, in the fall of 2002, Congress authorized Bush to go to war.
Only later, in late 2003 and 2004, as polls showed public support waning, did many of those same prominent politicians who once enthusiastically stumped for war and even voted for it in Congress suddenly do an about-face. It stands as one of the most shameful political turnabouts in U.S. history.
Opponents suddenly claimed the war was a sham, that they were fooled into supporting it by cooked intelligence, that we should have never removed Saddam, that Iraqis were better off with him in power than with us as occupiers.
The war in Iraq, in short, simply wasn't worth it. But they were wrong on all counts.continuing...
Iraq is today a growing economy again. From 2002 through 2006, the most recent year for which data are available, per capita GDP in dollars jumped 110%.
Before the war, there were some 833,000 people with telephones. Today, there's 9.8 million. Fewer than 5,000 people were on the Internet during Saddam's rein of terror; today, it's a quarter million.
There were no private TV stations under Saddam; today Iraq has more than 50. There are at least 260 independent newspapers and magazines in Iraq, vs. none under Saddam. Just 1.5 million cars were registered before the war; by 2005, that had hit 3.1 million.
In short, by almost any objective measure one might choose, Iraqis are today much better off than they were under Saddam. Those that deny this are, frankly, deluded.
Better still, Saddam's jackbooted minions no longer pull people screaming out of their homes for torture sessions and murder.
By some estimates, an average of 50,000 people died each year from Saddam's campaigns of genocide, ethnic cleansing and political murder. Last year, the peak of the surge, there were 18,000 civilian deaths — mostly by terrorists.
Today, Iraq's nascent democracy, though imperfect, seems solid. A recent look at the Index of Political Freedom shows Iraq ranking as the fourth-freest country in the Mideast, out of 20. Those who term the war a "failure" need to define that term.
Since the surge began a year ago, nearly every indicator of violence in the country is down, and down sharply: civilian fatalities, off 80% from the peak; enemy attacks, off 40%; bombings, off 81%.
Yes, U.S. fatalities are nearing 4,000. And every death of every brave soldier is a tragedy. But we lost more soldiers on D-Day.
In 2007 — widely reported by the media last summer as the "worst" yet during the war — 901 American troops lost their lives. By comparison, during the Clinton administration, an average of 938 American soldiers died each year in the military. The notion that we've suffered unconscionable troop losses is false and misleading. This is the most bloodless war in history.
So far, we've spent about $500 billion on the war — less than 1% of our GDP over the past five years. Yet with that money, we've perhaps recast the history of the Mideast, giving its people a chance to throw off the shackles of tyranny and to live in peaceful democracies. We've bashed al-Qaida severely, killing key leaders and demoralizing the terrorist group's followers.Read all of it here.

FInal Fool Brackets Start Tomorrow, One Day Left For Nominations!
It's the Victoria Taft Show's "Big Dunce!" That's right it's Final Fool time. Get your nominations in. Put them in the comments section if you haven't done it before.
Seeding takes place tomorrow and we begin rockin' the house with the Final Fool this week. Here's last year's bracket:
Dummocrat for a Day: Get Your Registration in on Tuesday, April 1st
More waves. The D's really don't like this much. Dave Reinhard of the Zero does:
KPAM radio's Victoria Taft is even leading a "Dummocrat for a Day" effort pegged to -- you guessed? -- April Fools' Day. She's urging these new Democrats to vote for Clinton to keep the Democratic mess going. "Dummocrats for a Day" is a bit cold, but the idea is appealing. My problem is twofold:
One, is this ethical? Is it fair to play in the other party's sandbox and help pick their nominee? Answer: This is politics. What's ethics got to do with it? When is it unethical to act in the best interest of the nation?
Two, what presidential candidate should a new "Democrat for a Day" vote for? Neither the choice nor the criterion to base a choice on is clear. Should we vote for the D who would make the best president? Or should we vote strategically -- for one whose win would prolong our new party's nomination battle or one who would be easiest for Republicans to beat?

Obama Needs to Explain His Racist Church
If Mitt Romney had to a speech about his religion, nothing less should be asked of Obama. The pastor preaches hate. Obama has had 20 plus years to get the heck out of that church and away from his pastor's hate mongering. He's got no excuse but that he believes most of that tripe.
He should get out of the race now. I don't want him to because Hillary's in the wings but this passive (active?) acceptance of his pastor's racist attitude by the left is outrageous. Politico points out here and here that Wright holds an official position on the Obama campaign. Ron Kessler writes a piece for the WSJ here. He's the first one to have exposed Wright and his racist rantings awhile back.

Democrat--Dummocrat?-- for a Day Making Waves
For the May primary, KPAM's Victoria Taft wants Oregon Republicans and Independents to register as a Democrat so they can meddle with the party's tight race. Taft wants Hillary Clinton to beat Barack Obama in Oregon to keep the Democrats divided as long as possible, so they spend their money attacking each other and not John McCain.
