Bristol Palin Gives Birth to Healthy Baby Boy

18 year old Bristol Palin, daughter of the former Republican Vice-presidential candidate and target of much left winged vitriol before the November 4th election, has given birth to her baby, a healthy 7 lb., 4 oz., baby boy.

Great Aunt Colleen Jones said, “We think it’s wonderful. The baby is fine and Bristol is doing well. Everyone is excited.”

Read more here and here.

Bristol and the baby’s father, Levi Johnston have named their son Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston.

Congratulations to the young parents.

Christmas is Now Official Holiday in Iraq

Story here.

BAGHDAD – Iraq’s Christians, a scant minority in this overwhelmingly Muslim country, quietly celebrated Christmas on Thursday with a present from the government, which declared it an official holiday for the first time…

… In his homily on Thursday, Chaldean Cardinal Emmanuel III Delly praised the establishment of Christmas as an official holiday as a step toward easing tensions.

“I thank the government for giving chances to all to serve each other for the general benefit, and I thank it too for making this day an official holiday where we pray to God to make us trust each other as brothers,” he said at the Christmas Mass before several dozen worshippers in the small chapel of a Baghdad monastery.

A senior Shiite cleric, Ammar al-Hakim, attended the Mass flanked by bodyguards in a gesture of cooperation with Christians.

“I thank the visitors here and ask them to share happiness and love with their brothers on Christmas; by this they will build a glorious Iraq,” the cardinal said.

“We came here to bring a message of love, respect and gratitude to our Christian brothers and to share happiness with them as we have shared sadness with them during the cruel targeting they came under,” al-Hakim said in an interview with al-Furat TV. “We will do our best for equality between people and a good life for all, whatever their religious, sectarian and ethnic background.”

Unafraid of the Future

Recently, a friend and I were talking about the future of our country and the prospect of turning it over to the next generation. She wasn’t confident that the people behind us would be up to it. I understood her reticence. It’s easy to believe that the generation behind is interested in only, “The Girls Next Door,” internet porn, gaming, competitive shopping and jello shots. It’s easy to believe right now that millions of people think it’s the government’s job to give them a job, a paycheck, a bail out or a home.

But I reminded her that a generation of America’s leaders are deployed around the world right now. Our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are right now honing their skills as warriors, leaders,

diplomats,
public servants,
teachers, scientists, confidantes and

problem solvers.

They’re coming back to lead here. They’ve been tested and remain infused with the code of duty, honor, country.
Thank God.
God Bless America.

WSJ: Pardon Scooter LIbby

WSJ Editorial Here.

Mr. Libby didn’t leak Ms. Plame’s name to journalist Robert Novak; Mr. Armitage did that deed, though neither he nor his close friend, Mr. Powell, bothered to tell Mr. Bush or the world. Based on the trial record and our own long experience with Mr. Libby, we also don’t think Mr. Libby lied. As Mr. Fitzgerald’s prosecution circled back again and again, Mr. Libby’s defense that his memory faltered in recalling the details of long ago conversations is entirely plausible for a busy White House aide.
The case against him was based on conflicting accounts of a single conversation Mr. Libby had in July 2003 with each of three journalists. The judge threw out the count concerning his talk with Judith Miller, and the jury found him not guilty on the count involving Matthew Cooper. His conviction on four other counts comes down essentially to a dispute over Mr. Libby’s claim that Tim Russert had told him about Ms. Plame. Russert, the NBC journalist who has since died, initially told the FBI it was possible he told Mr. Libby, but by the time of the trial Russert said he was sure he had not done so. Neither man had notes from their call, and it is possible that Russert’s memory was as faulty as Mr. Libby’s.
