Opposed to Surge in Iraq, Obama Now Wants Surge in Afghanistan

As has been pointed out, had it not been for the leadership of President Bush and his flexibility to change course and go for the surge, there wouldn't BE a safer Iraq for B-Ho to visit.
In 2007 Obama introduced legislation calling for American troops to be pulled out of Iraq by March of this year. He opposed the surge. Called for us to cut and run.
Now, ironically, he calls for a surge in Afghanistan. He pretends we conduct war there in a vacuum without regard to NATO, and our other allies. And he pretends we are doing nothing there.
He calls for "getting" UBL, which we continue to attempt to do. He calls for getting tough with Pakistan when we are already working several fronts (diplomatic and otherwise) in that country. In other words, he's spending all kinds of time saying "me too" in Iraq without the political downside suffered by those who early captured the vision, saw the need, and lead, fought, bled and died for security in Iraq.
It would have been better to have backed these moves, which are better for national and regional security, when they occurred. Obama's "beliefs" are fungible.
Were it not for US and allied troops in Iraq
who would possess that 537 metric tons of yellowcake right now? Or Saddam's leftover bio and germ warfare agents? How about the nuke program he put on hold? Where did he take the WMD UN inspectors knew about in 1998 but were gone in 2003?
Now B-Ho takes a meeting with General Patraeus. He never said one peep about the move on dot commie ad about General Betray Us. He just took their money and ran to the left where he called for the US to retreat and surrender in Iraq.

And Victoria, you are voting for McCain who wants Mexicans to overrun out borders?......So, who do you want to take us over, the Mexicans or the Islamic fascists? I didnt think you could answer that.

Obama the Clueless has been in the Middle East less than a week and already his is an expert in all things to do with the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. But really, he is nothing more than an expert in all things phony and a dedicated practitioner of the phony.

If this guy is given the White House in November, he will make Jimmy Carter look almost competent.

CN stay on topic. Obama is for open borders and giving all illegal aliens free health care. Gimme a break.

Didn't Obama say something like listening to the Generals was abrogatting his duties as Commander in Chief? But, a failure of Bush was listening to the Generals on the ground?

Yet, all along, Dems have complained that Bush wasn't listening to the Generals?

Scottiebill said...

Lew, I think Obama the Clueless did say something to that effect. But he also said a couple of weeks ago that in McCain's 26 years in Congress he had none very little to show for it. But Obama has been in the US Senate actively for 143 days (5 months) and he has done more? I guess that is why his adoring and fawning sycophants are calling him the Messiah. But I simply choose to call him utterly Clueless. I could make other references about him, in good old fashioned oil field terms, but Victoria doesn't allow that kind of language on her blog. Can't understand why. Can you?

Mission Accomplished. Bring the Troops Home and give them the support they deserve for a job well done. Dont abandon them in the middle east, which is the Bush/McCain plan. Obama is right to want to re-deploy. And the Iraqi leaders agree. Osama Bin Laden is responsible for 9-11, not Iraqi (Shiite) tribal soldiers. The only reason McCain doesnt want to bring the troops home is that he knows they will vote Democrat out of spite for being abandoned in the middle east by Bush.

you are going to vote for a Pro-immigration. Anti-troop supporting man that would fail high school geography....As Barack Obama began his trip to the Middle East and Europe, the media was already speculating about the possibility of a gaffe. Obama's travel "carries political risk," the New York Times reported, "particularly if Mr. Obama makes a mistake."

But the only foreign policy error made in the last few days came this morning on ABC's Good Morning America, when John McCain made ANOTHER geography gaffe while trying to criticize Obama's visit to Iraq. (Just last week, McCain repeatedly referred to Czechoslovakia, a country that hasn't existed since 1993.)

Asked by Diane Sawyer whether the "the situation in Afghanistan in precarious and urgent," McCain responded: "I think it's serious. . . . It's a serious situation, but there's a lot of things we need to do. We have a lot of work to do and I'm afraid it's a very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq/Pakistan border."

But as ABC's Rick Klein noted: "Iraq and Pakistan do not share a border. Afghanistan and Pakistan do."

Well, since soldiers almost always vote Republican (because Democrats only support them if they can score political points against Bush), your illogic falls flat on its face. Sorry, CNSkate... you've failed. It's OK, you can heal.

I find it impressive that you cite a web site known for being laughable wrong about just about everything but regardless of its history, it constitutes the precise and exact opposite of "the truth". OH! Another failure. How WILL he recover?

One needs to look no further than the videos of Obama meeting the troops in Iraq.. The smiles of the troops speak volumes.

cn, you place implicit trust in the All Barack Channel and the Puffington Twist?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Judging from the many frowns behind the dozen or so screamers placed in the front, my guess is many were ordered there for the show, which is SOP for the Military and any visiting dignitary.

But, you would have to served in the Military to understand that.

Check out how he was mobbed in Afghanistan and read some dispatches of his visit with the Troops there.

As for McCains gaffe, oh Mr. consumate conservative, who cares?

When do one of you libbies explain Obama's plan for a "National Civilian Security Force" on equal par with the MIlitary?

That wasn't a gaffe!!!

Keep grasping at straws, wacky.

Lew Said:judging from the many frowns behind the dozen or so screamers placed in the front, my guess is many were ordered there for the show, which is SOP for the Military and any visiting dignitary.. and this included George Bush, right? You can spit your foot out now Lew(d).

Lew Waters said...

Yes, cn, it includes Bush visits a well. But, how many scrambled to be close to Obama compared to Bush afterwards?

Nice try son, but you flunk again.

Go back to your video and you will notice those towards the front, what, maybe two dozen or so, applauding.

If, as you liberals wish us to believe, Obama is already loved by the Military, why aren't all those towards the rear applauding and going ga ga over him?

Look in th beginning and you see one, only one, reach out to touch him.

Compare that to Bush's visit to the USS Lincoln where dozen's scrambled to be around him and touch him and shake his hand.

Like I said, you would had to have served in the Military to understand the feelings of the Military.

Sorry, no foot in mouth here, but we might question where you planted your head.

Lew Waters said...

Scottie, the quote we heard was from a Nightline interview. He said, "What I will refuse to do is to get boxed in into what I consider two false choices. Either I have a rigid timeline, come hell or high water, and I am blind to anything that happens in the intervening 16 months, or, alternatively, I am completely deferring to whatever the commanders on the ground say, which is what George Bush says he's doing, in which case I'm not doing my job as commander in chief. I'm essentially, simply rubber-stamping decisions that are made on the ground." (page 2)

The incidences of the left complaining Bush didn't listen to commanders on the ground are so numerous, I couldn't count them all.

Sounds to me that Obama plans to micromanage the war on terror like LBJ micromanaged Viet Nam, creating that fiasco.

And, just what in 143 days in the Senate gives Obama the proper judgement for Commanding Armies?

Surprised that Diane Sawyer wasn't in the Middle East, since all ohter major media personalities seemed to have gravitated to the region with Obama, although apparently restricted in wearing green.

Any one casting Democrats in the cloak of patriotism and the American Flag has obviously dismissed recent history.

Murtha and his erroneous accusations of murder on US troops in Haditha. Pennsylvania's Rendell and his disinfranchisement of the votes overseas troops in the 2004 election. Kerry and his accusations of US troops terrorizing Iraqis. Durban in comparing American Troops to Nazis.

Pelosi, Reid, Boxer and company trying repeatedly to undermine funding for American troops.

The Democrats abandoned our troops long ago. They did so in the Viet Nam War and have done so in every conflict since. Obama has that shameful heritage and record to live with!

The troops overwhelmingly voted Republican in 2004 and will again in 2008!!

Lew Waters said...

Pete, don't forget the 2000 election in Florida where Democrats pulled every technicality they could dream of to block and deny counting the Military absentee ballots.

I don't think they did that out of fear of the Military voting Democrat, even though they repeatedly chanted "let every vote count."

Sorry about the omission. I should have probably thrown in the sorry performance of our then Commainder in Chief on Mogadishu. And it would be easy to spend time ranting about Kerry. Unfortunately, I may get my chance later, when Obama appoints him Secretary of Defence.

How about a "stay on topic" for Lew and Raoul, Victoria? Probably not I am sure. They dont challenge anyone to think, they are just regurgitating the same old lines that got us to where we are today....A tired old Republican candidate that will lose unless he can take Obama out at the knees. Funny that noone on here mentions that Donald Rumsfeld asked Bush for the same number of troops as the surge provided in the beginning of the invasion, but Bush didnt agree. And now, the surge worked, Obama has said so many times. So your point that he only believes in this "new" surge in Afghanistan is completely erroneous. You people make real conservatives look dumb. Get with it. Start winning elections again. I will now be boarding a plane to attend a business conference and attend a pro-life seminar about infusing pro-life beliefs into the main stream media. Call me a liberal why dont ya, hilarious.

raoul said...

Lew,
Regarding your sources - the Washington Times is the right wing source of news as everyone knows however, being objective as I try to be I checked out the article - it's over 4 years old for one thing and the overwhelming majority as the kid pushes on us was only listed as 52 to 44 percent voting for bush. Hardly the same as what he bs'd about to us.

The MSNBC source was also almost 4 years old and even though it spoke of majority military being republican you failed to mention that many of them had put bush on 'probation' (their words, not mine) and that the majority of military families opposed the war, or the way it was conducted.

Lastly, when I spoke of my experience it was the absolute truth. I served with Army Intel. under the guidance of NSA. The majority of us were college grads and the majority of us loathed the military and scored the abuse of power. We had the lowest re-up rates of any branch of service. I spoke from experience. I will expect your apologies. And please to speak for the kid any more, okay? He's a big boy - he can't fight his own battles as I've seen in the past - however your jumping in exposes him for what he really is which I'll refrain from saying right now.

I have to agree with Raoul about the military being republican. I know at least half of a dozen soldiers who have fought or currently fighting in Iraq/Afghanistan. Two who have returned with life altering injuries. Only one, of the 7, still supports Bush and or McCain, although all but two of them consider themselves conservative. The seem to have the feeling they are being used as pawns, and the are pissed off at the overuse of contractors, who get paid well and get to go home often.

I have a feeling that some may vote for change (Obama) just because they don't trust McCain.

Personally myself, I am in a quandry also, I am a libertarian, who is against the war. So who do I vote for? It looks like I am going to have to waste my vote on Bob Barr.

Victoria Taft said...

Mintaka,
That's not my experience with the military. The people who hate war the most are those who have been in one.

for the rest of you...stay on topic.

Raoul, Just use people's handles. No need for ad hominems. It makes you look bad, besides.

Mintaka said...

Victoria,

I agree. I was just relating my personal knowledge I have of several soldiers. They are not happy with the current situation. Although they still consider themselves conservative, to count on them as a vote for McCain would be wrong.

Lew, The thing I was referring to, about MCain being in Congress 26 years and Obama for 5 months, etc., was on the craw line on the O"Reilly Factor on TV the night 10 days or so ago when they were eulogizing Tony Snow.

An, cns36, Surely you don't believe ANYTHING on the HuffandPuffington post, do you? She is almost farther to the left that even Air America or Obama's wife. I would even bet that you still believe in the Tooth Fairy, if you believe any thing that HuffandPuffington puts out.

Back to Lew, You are dead on about LBJ micro-managing toe VietNam war, aided and abetted by his dimwit-in-charge, Robert McNamara.
If Obama gets the White House in November, look for him to hire a McNamara clone to do just what McNamara did for LBJ. Does the name, John EX-Marine (as opposed to Former Marine) Murtha come to mind?

raoul said...

Ms. Taft,
You are correct and I shall try to refrain from such behavior in the future. It's just that it is so frustrating trying to shine the line of truth on to some people. However it is no excuse and I will place myself in the dog house for the next 24 hrs. repenting of my horrid behavior.

, my guess is many were ordered there for the show, by lew..

Right, just like when they were forced to appear with McCain when he tried to show how safe it was in Iraq while dozens of aircraft hovered overhead, not shown on camera, protecting him... ROFL..

But the other writer was right on the mark - the troops in the pics really looked comfortable around him and I saw no indication of anything being forced.

Oh, one more thing - I'm not voting for either one so I can be unbiased about this..

Raoul,

I know for a fact the soldiers meeting with Obama was not staged because I did not see a single plastic turkey in the photos.

Lew Waters said...

Raoul, you asked for some evidence that soldiers vote Republican. I gave you two articles of recent Presidential elections showing Democrat operatives expressing that soldiers do indeed vote predominantly Republican.

Sorry, I cannot give you one showing how they will vote this time around, since they haven't voted yet. It is usually the Democrat Party that has predecided vote counts, anyways ;-)

However, you might ask why not one Democrat will sign on to or support the resolution introduced by House Minority Whip, Roy Blunt, demanding that the Defense Department better enable U.S. military personnel overseas to vote in the November elections.

Don't the "count every vote" Democrats who so massively support the Troops want their "predominantly Democrat" votes counted this year?

Scottiebill said...

Lew, the reason the Dumocrats aren't signing onto or supporting Roy Blunt's resolution is that they already have a bunch of dead and illegal alien voters all lined up for the November elections and they don't want those votes effectively countered by the military votes from overseas. Kind of like the last Governor's election in Washington State when Chrissie was elected by enough dead King County voters to beat Rossi after the third recount.
