B-Ho on Faith Based Initiatives: Churches Can’t Discriminate Against Employees on Basis of Religion

If the church receives government funding to help folks, the last thing the faith based group wants is for the government to dictate who should be on the church payroll. That’s why NO ONE should trust Barack Obama’s pledge to EXPAND the faith based initiative started by President Bush. No one trusts him to do it with sensitivity and respect for the faith groups.
On the other hand, maybe his poison pill contained in the quote below is exactly what he wants: to kill the faith based initiative by making the conditions under which a faith group participates untenable.
Here are his own words:
“First,” he said, “if you get a federal grant, you can’t use that grant money to proselytize to the people you help, and you can’t discriminate against them —
or against the people you hire — on the basis of their religion.” Rest here.

Sam Adams Warns of "Car Abuse" if You Drive Over CRC

That’s right Sam Adams, the PDX mayor in waiting, has said at a recent working group on the Columbia River Crossing that people who use their cars to drive across the bridge too much (I assume he means ‘too much’) are committing an act of ‘car abuse.’
Also, his planning poohbah who briefed the council on the bridge project wanted city commissioners to know that while the bridge is needed to be built for cargo hauling purposes, she didn’t want people (you know, us) to actually ‘drive on it.’

Hot topic on the show last night and I hadn’t blogged about it here so sorry about that. Direct quotes later when I get into work, but if you listened last night you heard allllll about it.

Enviro Lie Alert: CRC Only 6 Lanes–not 12

Enviros testifying before PDX City Council yesterday kept referring to the CRC Bridge as being 12 lanes across the river. With ingress and egress lanes BEFORE the bridge that’s true in some cases but not OVER THE BRIDGE. Planners are talking about only 3 or at best 4 lanes (on only one side) for actual car traffic.
Why do they persist in lying about the the 12 lanes, then? Because it sounds worse to the enviros around here who listen only to the disinformation being spread by these groups.
From the CRC website:

The replacement bridge option calls for new structures that:

  • Have three through-travel lanes and two or three auxiliary lanes for entering and exiting the highway
  • Have dedicated lanes for high capacity transit and pedestrians
    and bicycles
  • Provide sufficient clearance for marine traffic and avoid Pearson Field airspace
  • Are built immediately west (downstream) of the current I-5 bridges

Those auxiliary lanes wouldn’t be needed to exit the bridge over the water–get it?
