As heard on Victoria Taft this evening,
Watch for an Op Ed in the May 8th Columbian that will delve deeper into this unbelievable act.

Sonya Jones, the interviwee this evening, has penned a post about how the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI), a Dallas non-profit group, was prepared to grant Seattle schools $13,700,000.00 to assist Advanced Placement programs in math and science, allowing students to earn college credit while still in high school up until Washington's Union Laws interfered.
The NMSI wanted to give the money directly to teachers, but the Law states all money must go through collective bargaining. No middle ground could be found, negotiations broke down, the offer was withdrawn and we all lose, especially the children.

From the Seattle Times, two Clark County schools in the Evergreen School District were listed to receive part of the grant: State schools lose $13.2 million math and science grant over union laws
UPDATE: Sonya Jones has an Op Ed appearing in today's Columbian, Union’s stance hurts teachers, students.
When do we stand up and take the education of our children away from the Teachers Union?

Union thugs causing problems for the employees they represent... same story, new characters. Has anyone ever seriously considered the question of whether teachers would be better-paid, better-compensated, better-educated, and more respected without the union bosses making Solomonic proclaimations from on top of their pile of money? Not to mention asking the question of whether it'd be better for the children!
Since they threw away this $13.2 Million, any bets how soon they will be crying for another tax increase "for the children?"
How long does it take for the normal person to intake a breath? That's about how long it'll take for them to demand more money "for the children."
To Kick the Public Unions out of your place of work in Washington State
This is what you must do since Washington State is not a
"RIGHT TO WORK STATE". From the National Right to work CommitteeDecertification: Washington law permits public employees to obtain an election to decertify an exclusive bargaining representative. When an employee seeking decertification of his/her exclusive bargaining representative presents evidence demonstrating that at least 30% of the employees in the bargaining unit are in support of the decertification petition, the Washington Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC) will conduct a secret ballot election. Washington Revised Code Annotated sections 41.76.020(3); 41.59.070(4). A petition for a decertification election must be presented to the PERC on a form prescribed by the Commission, available at:
http://www.perc.wa.gov/Forms/E1.pdf accompanied by a 30% showing of interest. See Washington Administrative Code sections 391-25-070(6)(c); 391-25-010; and 391-25-030 for PERC rules covering decertification, including when to file such a petition.
Deauthorization: Washington law has no provision for deauthorization of a public sector agency shop agreement.
This Last sentence is a real problem in Washington State.
PS: I've always thought that there needs to be a "TAFT HARTLY act" for the Government Union Sector for a LONG TIME.
Remember when these So Called Public Employees are on strike there striking against the Public, another words YOU & ME PRIVATE SECTOR TAXPAYERS Vs. Private Sector Unions being on strike against the Company.
