Call Senators Smith, Cantwell, Wyden, Murray NOW!

From our friends at Federation for American Immigration Reform and Oregonians for Immigration Reform:

Great news to report. The Ag jobs amendment was dropped from the Iraq supplemental spending bill in the U.S. Senate.
The Ag Jobs amendment was a failed attempt by disgraced U. S. Senator Larry Craig and open borders advocate Senator Dianne Feinstein to grant amnesty to millions of illegal alien farm workers. The amnestied farm workers could then bring extended family members. For those of you who called Senators Smith and Wyden – great job.
Unfortunately there still is an amendment in the Iraq supplemental bill that would increase the number of low skilled H –2 B visas. It would increase the present level of 66,000 per year, to 400,000 per year. Imagine another 400,000 low skilled foreign workers added each year to compete with Americans for jobs.
We urge you to call
Senator Smith’s Washington DC office, (202) 224-3753 and Senator Ron Wyden’s office at (202) 224-5244 [Senator Cantwell’s office at 202-224-3441 and Senator Murray’s office at 202-224-2621] to tell them to remove the amendment from the Iraq war funding bill.

So as I thought, it is not just "illegal" immigration you have issues with, it is immigration from Mexico (legal or otherwise).
You are against granting more Mexicans the right to come here legally.

What about high skilled work visas.
This is about cheaper labor as well.
Many US citizens ARE losing jobs to lower paid people, who are getting these high skilled work visas.

Why is it the low skilled visas that bother you.
Do you think it is mostly lower skilled Americans that are out of (and looking for) work?
Or is it this class of people you just don't want in your kids schools and your neighborhood?

Well

In my mind there should be zero immigration legislation in a defense spending bill..

If they can not introduce the legislation for legal workers in a immigration bill.. why let them sneak it into a military spending bill..??

A small fallacy I see in your thinking, Eileen.

If we bring in Illegals to low wage jobs, often below minimum wage, are we not just creating another slave class that must be given entitlements to survive? And if they bring their family members over, can we afford to pay out benefits to those who haven't paid in?

However, should we legalize those who broke our laws getting here, their pay will undoubtedly increase thereby negating the puropse of needing them here in the first place.

Work Visas and illegally coming across the border are different entirely.

Since we would declare lawbreakers "legal" with the pasage of such a bill, what other lawbreakers should receive the same treatment?

Ask yourself, will they come over the border "legally" if the bill passed to become Americans, or restore Aztlan?

I keep asking, why do we need imported labor, legal or illegal, when we are paying others unemployment?

Someone highly skilled having to pick lettuce in order to draw their unemployment check, just might encourage some to look a bit harder. Besides, a little manual labor never hurt anyone.

I sent emails to my reps, but i doubt it will have any impact.

The Govt wants amnesty.(R) and (D) both. They are pushing for the NAU, which will erase the north and south borders with Mexico and Canada, making the constitution meaningless. Giving these illegals amnesty will make the transition easier.

Hell in a candcart, I tells ya.

All about the money.
But i did my part.

Lew,

I am not talking about bringing more "Illegals" I am talking about more "LEGALS".
Why change the subject?

Why would that create a slave class anymore than it would of our own citizens, if they did the job?
Legal workers are less subject to exploitation than illegal workers.

If the problem is the taking of US jobs, why not complain equally about high skill visas?

Unemployment is an insurance, not a charity.
Don't forget that it was paid for, and is a short term benefit.

But I have to agree with kitanis, in that none of this belongs on a defense spending bill.
I think that we should all call our congress and tell them to reject ALL bills with unrelated riders.

They like to hire illegal immigrants because they don't have to pay them minimum wages and benefits. And on those merits I think its unfair. BUT... If you are intent on disallowing it you better be prepared
to pay more for your food!
