Caged Sea Lions Killed

As we discussed before, permission was granted to kill Sea Lions at Bonneville Dam as a last resort because they were eating Salmon.

Efforts were made to catch and relocate the pesky Sea Lions, a more humane way of dealing with it than killing them.

It would come as no surprise that State and Federal Fishery Managers were outraged to discover six of the animals dead from gunshots Sunday, while locked in cages. “A despicable act,” “Random act of violence,”“A terrible thing,” some said.

Unknown at this time is just who may have wantonly kill the trapped animals. Authorites have vowed to "aggressively seek these individuals and prosecute them to the maximum extent of the law."

If the killers thought they were helping the authorities prevent the predators from eating the Salmon, which is a normal food for the animals, they are sadly mistaken. Their wanton killing has led to the suspension of the trapping program indefintely.

Although I understand the last resort need to kill some of the animals, the kill them trapped in a cage is just wrong and whoever committed this a should be made to pay dearly.

I wouldn't be suprised if it turned out to be some PETA/ALF Loons.

Judging by the reaction of fisherman i saw on the news last night, it's more likely to be one of fishermen.

Every one of them said good!

WONT SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDR...Um...FISH?!?!?!

PETA and ALF are not likely to do this.
They would have been far more likely to have just let the animals go.

I do realize that ALF uses terrorist tactics, but when they do kill animals, is is for the sake of preventing someone from profiting from their use.
No one was going to profit by taking those sea lions somewhere else (as opposed to killing them).

Boo!
Sea Lions may be the water mammal equivalent to starlings, this is outrageous.

Today, another Sea lion body found was near Interstate 5 Bridge. Unknown how it died, but they are investigating it too.

Another aspect to the killings that I heard on the radio today, whoever did the shootings got into a restricted area pretty much unnoticed. As I understand it, security measures will be tightened to prevent the possibility of some othernefarious individuals entering the same area and doing something much worse than killing Sea Lions.

If it were fisherman that killed the animals, it backfired because now the Sea Lions are free to go after the Salmon again.
