The Rest of the Story: "Student" Bush Bashing Art Show Not "Students" at ALL…

They put a call out for pieces of art at the Linn Benton Community College and, glory be, you’ll never guess: all of the pieces were Bush Bashing! Surprise! Now here’s a further surprise: most of those art pieces were BROUGHT IN BY THE SCHOOL FOR THE SHOW. It’s part of a traveling art show that, on some level, integrates student work. Imagine our shock and surprise! Now here’s another surprise: Most of the pieces have been taken down.

Racist Emails Lands Battlegrounds Deputy Mayors Son In Court

After the swearing in of Battle Grounds City Council member, Paul Zandamela, a Black man on January 7, 2008, city council members, some members of the city’s administrative staff, and The Reflector received in email.

As you know, there is a n****r on our city council named Paul Zandamela. Our city government must be corrupt to have this p***h monkey as an elected official. According to our year 2000 census, c***s only make up .49% of our population, and I know I would never vote for one of those s****s. I don’t see how a person who is different from 99.51% of our population can properly make decisions for us.

Sincerely,

N****r Hater

The sender identified himself as “Battleground Anonymous.”

After a second racially charged email was received, investigations by the Battle Ground P.D. and Clark County Sheriffs Department traced the emails to Christopher Reinhold, the 18 year-old son of Battle Grounds Deputy Mayor, Alex Rheinhold.

Appearing in Clark County Court yesterday, Rheinholds attorney claimed, “the language was at best, disgusting,” but said his client never made any threats.
“It’s a First Amendment issue,” Jon McMullen said.

Rheinhold is on supervised release, cannot access computers and has been ordered to not contact members of the City Council, other then his father.

Sauvie Island Bridge Turned Bike Bridge: Toll It

We’re so poor we can’t even fill potholes in Portland. That’s why we “need” a 1/2 BILLION dollar tax on cars. But now we discover that part of the money to buy the lead paint bearing old Sauvie Island Bridge to convert it into a ‘bike bridge’ at 16th and NW Flanders will come from that tax. ‘Scuse me?
Considering that every other “transportation” “plan” around here seems to involve sticking it to the car drivers (sorry, you can’t have freedom–not when “global warming” is at stake), why not have turn about as fair play: Toll the Bike Bridge, license bicyclists, and make sure there are HOV bike lanes installed.
See that picture? Andrew Hall has great pictures of bridges at portlandbridges.com.

Want to Get Rid of Global Warming? Leader to UN: Kill Capitalism.

Delivering the keynote address at the United Nations forum on Indigenous People on Monday, Bolivia’s President Evo Morales told the adoring crowd that “if we want to save our planet earth, to save life, to save mankind, we have a duty to put an end to the capitalist system.”
Morales elaborated on that by calling for an end to “unbridled industrial development, extraction of natural resources, excessive consumption of goods and accumulation of waste.”
More conveniently, he also demanded that trillions of dollars from the West be diverted to places like Bolivia, “to repair the earth.”
Seldom has the environmentalist agenda to end the capitalist system been laid out so plainly.
But in reality, it’s capitalism — combined with the framework that enables it to flourish, like rule of law and property rights — that has lifted billions of people out of poverty and improved the environment. Contrary to Morales’ assertions, the most capitalist countries are also the cleanest.

You Know That Global Warming Thing? Not So Fast.

One thing we know for sure, this latest scientist to declare this won’t be getting any more funding even though he’s a scientist and NASA astronaut.

Sunspot activity has not resumed up after hitting an 11-year low in March last year, raising fears that — far from warming — the globe is about to return to an Ice Age, says an Australian-American scientist.
Physicist Phil Chapman, the first native-born Australian to become an astronaut with NASA [he became an American citizen to join up, though he never went into space], said pictures from the U.S. Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) showed no spots on the sun
