From junkscience.com comes this:
Food riots caused by rising food prices have erupted around the world. Five people died in riots in Haiti -- perhaps the first of many casualties yet to come from the current fad of being “green.”
Well, at least we'll always have something to eat:

According to the green weenies, the earth's population must be reduced by two-thirds (4+ billion actual people) in order to be "sustainable." A mere 5 dead isn't even a good start. They want GIGA-DEATHS! And right away.
What's a few deaths compared to scaring the bejeezies out of people, while you starve them?
And, how much oil sits idle in the ground around the U.S.?
And this comes from the same crowd that does not want to be forced to alter their own lifestyle to actually conserve.
Lew,
We are saving our own Oil for later, after we use up everyone else's.
Smart idea, how ever selfish it may be.
Yes, Eileen. Everything is about selfishness. That's the all-encompassing explanation for why people believe certain ways. It has nothing to do with a recognition of how inane the "conservation" pushed on us by the greenies is. Why don't we want to alter our lifestyle, Eileen? It's NOT NECCESSARY. In fact, we need to raise everyone else up to the "wasteful" standard of life we lead.
Actually, we're just sitting on our hands because that's the way the greenies like it. It may amaze you, Eileen, but selfishness is an irrelevant pipe dream of an explanation for things. Do you have a more original thing to put on the table or are you going to continue to find clever ways to use the word "selfish"?
eileen I personaly would like to see us drill for oil here, but its the greenies that won't let us !!
drill in anwar , drill off the coast and build lots and lots of refineries !
Eileen, I know you have compassion for regular folks, and even more for the destitute. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The entire world is currently experiencing an agricultural meltdown. Egypt, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Haiti, Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries are suffering deadly food riots, resignations of their leaders, threats to their governments, food rationing, and starvation.
Thailand and India are halting rice exports to protect their own economies and food prices. The Philipines is having trouble finding food to import.
The IMF, the World Bank and the U.N. have (finally) made the connection between the global warming hoax, which created the biofuels hoax, which has diverted much of the world's food production to non-food uses. The U.S. Gov't has felt the upward surge in staple prices badly enough to shift from wheat flour bread to potato flour bread in schools and other assistance programs. These world organizations have called for a "re-think" of the consequences of appeasing the socialist idiots.
This is no longer simply an amusing lefty fantasy. People are dying, with many more to follow.
There are hundreds of BILLIONS of barrels of proven reserves, which are being left unavailable due to the global warming hoax.
Blood is on the hands of every lefty green weenie out there.
Heyyyyyyyy Drill for Oil, and Stop using Boutique Fuels from things like Corn. Food Riots will stop as a result and Food costs will come down. Things are starting to get expensive to get to market. Merchants are passing these higher FUEL costs on to "you the consumer". Liberals Love rising costs and are smiling.
Drill for OILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
GOT ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Bear,
I am not in favor of this whole move to bio fuels, in cases where it means conversion of food to fuel.
I never have been.
I am in favor of bio-fuel where it involves using products which would otherwise be thrown away (such as reuse of cooking oil).
I am far more in favor of less energy use and conservation. Bio -fuel is just a "feel good" way to continue our high rate of consumption.
Now that some of the "feel good" has been removed from the equation, will the trend continue or be reevaluated?
But why blame the "left green" movement. Isn't that movement in favor of conserving and less energy consumption foremost?
Who signed the national bill into law?
Who had the power to veto the bill?
What is the real reason for wanting increased use of bio-fuel? Those who propose this have to know that it is at a trade off for food.
That is unless they look for crops that grow where food is not growing that may make good energy but not good food.
How much energy really sits idle in the ground?
What is the real truth, do we even know? What are they not telling us?
(Yes Keith, I am going to look for more and different ways to bring "selfish" into the equation. I disagree about the level of Necessity. But then with contradicting information, mostly based on what numbers different sources choose to use to make their point, it is not at all easy to know the truth.)
So no, you don't have an argument beyond your catch-all "selfishness" explanation. At least you're honest.
Frankly, it's not the "left green" types that have conservationalist versus environmentalist intentions. Conservationalism is a gold-plated conservative position that traces from Theodore Roosevelt forward. Yes, both movements want recycling, preservation of the wild places, and less use of energy but one side approaches it from the "responsible stewardship" premise and the other approaches it from the "giving people cheap and abundant energy is like giving an idiot child a machinegun" premise. One side betrays an inherant regressive bias.
The biofuels movement was partly a conservation concept but also a feel-good "reduce greenhouse emissions" pie-in-the-sky. But there is a massive amount of energy sitting in the ground and it's "hidden" in the same way that a book on geology is "hidden" in the library: the only people who can't access it are those who make no attempt to.
Yes, indeed the sordid, awful Left is to blame. Rising population and dwindling resources have ZERO to do with the equation. Also, the diversion of corn to be used for fuel has not disrupted the food supply one bit.
And all along, the self-proclaimed 'conservatives' have been eating and consuming wisely, not ever taking more than their fair share. Gotta love your fellow Americans, so long as they're not from the dreaded (groan) Left.
'Scuse me while I plop on the couch and take in more gleaning truth from the Fox Noise Channel.
Your sarcasm is artful but ill-informed. Diversion to biofuels and rising population have nothing to do with it, just as you said. What, you may ask, is the problem then? Well, does the slogan "Destroy every third hog, plow every third row under" give you a clue? Yes, the food shortage problem originates from government policy. Each year, the government buys millions of tons of produce from farmers to keep the price high and then destroys it. That's millions of tons of butter, of oranges, of wheat, of basic foodstuffs that will never feed the hungry because it's more important to the government that one of their constiencies is happy. Diversion for biofuels and population growth might have some small effect but that effect would be laughably tiny if thost 100 million tons of oranges were being passed out in Africa to all the starving children instead of being destroyed. Isn't that just beautiful?
Oh, we love our fellow Americans on the left. We feel obligated to reach out to our leftist friends... and smack some damn sense into them. Sometimes, conservatives need the same slap upside the head but not as often.
Crallspace: Go to this website and stay there.

Klatu said: Keith whose "WE" and "OUR"? And Conservatives need a good slap upside the head huh? Spoken like a good "OBAMA LOVING RINO".
PS: Keith say hi to your Leftist Political solemate IKNOWHOWTOSPELLCOMMUNISM for me.
PPs: Time to fill my truck up with Gasoline and tick off some more Liberals and Rino's.
Oh, for goodness sakes, Klatu... everyone, at some point or another, needs a good smack upside the head to straighten them out. But since you don't know what sarcasm is, I'll leave you to your delusions.
Klatu,
You show your small mindedness by directing me to DailyKos. There is a much wider world than that, but your lack of curiosity of the true Left has kept in your pigeonholing, limited world. Go sit in a corner and think about how lame you've become.
Bah... the "true left" is the author of our weakness, the planner of our shame, and the advocate of our enemy. If you follow the contemporary model of fascism vs. communism, the "true left" is the puppeteer behind atrocities that far dwarf the Holocaust. 90 million people slaughtered by Mao and Stalin and Pol Pot and every last communist thug that's ever gotten his bloodsoaked hands on the levers of power.
Go off in your own corner and think about that.
