It's kind of funny... but having lived in both rural and urban environments, knowing many people of both backgrounds, I've never met a single farm kid who wanted to "save the domesticated animals." They're caring for these animals day in and day out, and you've never seen a toy poodle pampered like a 4-h stock animal, yet they're all fine with using animals for food and clothing.
Nature's not some happy, lovey, green-haired lady in a flowing hippy dress... Nature's cruel, deadly, and very capricious. Oh, yeah, and humans are still a part of it.
Maybe we could give all the protesters the opportunity to spend the night in a pen at a mink farm... I bet the ones that survive won't be carrying signs any more.

As long as you are going to bring human babies into the argument, isn't one of the most effective anti-abortion arguments related to demonstrating that the fetus does process thought and feel hurt and pain when aborted?

I know multiple people who are very anti-most-abortion, AND very anti animal exploitation also.
These are people who have compassion for life, animal and human.

Killing wild animals (dogs, leopards, tigers, baby seals, lynx, etc) is just part of free enterprise. Thats the fundemental prinicipal behind this capitalist system that we all know and love! Klatu, the bible speaks of good stewardship. Not capitalism. If you need to eat an animal strictly for subsistance that is acceptable. But even then, it is recognised as a sacrifice and must be done sparingly and with proper respect (gluttony is a sin).

I think everybody needs to respect others' beliefs and convictions a little more and bicker a little less. I think what happened to the fur stores is a travesty - it is a legal enterprise and the activists don't have a right to threaten and harass the business owners. I also think that government trying to tell me how to live my life is a travesty. I want to life my life, raise my family, do the best I can here and be LEFT ALONE. I don't want the religious right trying to tell me I'm a sinner, I don't want the hippy left telling me I'm committing a crime against nature. I want smaller government and lower taxes, and more social responsibility among fellow citizens. I don't want to be preached constantly from the bible - politics and religion shouldn't be mixing. I want to vote for whichever political party I find a suitable candidate in.
