I'm not a big fan of the feds telling locals how to do their jobs but, let's be honest, there are some good things about No Child Left Behind. Holding teachers accountable for imparting knowledge that kids need to know and testing those kids to make sure they learn is the least we can do. The teachers union hates it. I understand. There are many TERRIFIC teachers in Oregon and for them NCLB dumbs down the process because THEY CAN DO BETTER. Alas, not all teachers are so great, hence NCLB.
But lest you wonder what The Zero feels about NCLB just look at the picture they chose to run taken during a speech by the Education Secretary Margaret Spelling in Portland. No bias here. Sure.

You should actually talk to some teachers that live with NCLB. I know one very well that hates the NEA and the OEA and is still very disappointed by NCLB. She has had to complete very expensive and time consuming Tests at her expense when her kids are completing compentencies 10 percent higher than the rest of the state. After she completed the test, she returned to her classroom and taught the EXACTLY same material. Total waste of her time and money. Of course the company that contracted with the Federal Gov to sell the tests loves NCLB. Its one more example of this administration selling the Government to the highest bidder and getting the lowest return. Wanna know how I know this?, I am married to her. My business will never contract with the Government bacause ethically I refuse to charge the people of this country ten times my normal rates. But the friends of Bush dont mind at all.
If a School or Teachers are bad a student has the RIGHT to transfer to another school that is good. No Child Left Behind is good for this.
I think they should be allowed to Home School or go to a private school. This should have been called "NO CHILD SHOULD HAVE A BAD EDUCATION OR TEACHER". This way they'll have skills for life and never be forced to depend on the Government or any one for anything. And they'll probably Never be Democrats. And of course "THE PROPAGONIAN _ _ _ _ _, and the Republican Party should have never dropped its opposition to the JIMMA CARTER NEA or the OEA.
Ps: CNSOVIET, Your wife was never taught by my Late Father to be a teacher (who taught teachers to be teachers and kicked out Union activists out of his class's all the Time at OSU From 1954-1980)I can tell, or she would like NCLB and realise how many students get into society with out Knowing how to Read, Write, do Math, and think for themselve's hence, what people call A Democrat. There's a lot of Lousy Democrat Union Activists in Public Schools masquraiding as Teachers These Days. Its a shame. No Child Left behind helps the student be a better person and exscape these lousy Democrat Activist Teachers.

The reason the big zero likes the status quo (40+% dropout rate) is because they would have to upgrade their writing past their own sixth grade level. IMHO, the sixth grade was the best four years the zero's editorial staff spent in school.
Klatu, care to share any data showing NCLB improves society or the improvement in knowledge in graduating students from it? Its all pretty theoretical at this point. I just see it as a way to reduce funding to public school and funnel money into Bush donors. Both my kids were privately educated and are steller students, due to them being taught quite alot by myself and my wife. You see, the family has to take some responsibility for our childrens education. Blaming the Unions is probably a rather short sighted and politically insignificant direction to take our children. Nice try though Klatu, you fake conservative. You keep acting like a conservative, but making them look dumb sells you out as a phony.
CNSOVIET: I bet you were (ARE) all for the CIM-CAM Scam? Democrats like you and the OREGONIAN are all for the CIM-CAM SCAM and against NCLB.

Funny, I have been saying for 8 months I support Romney, Klatu. Keep up the good work of holding down the lowest possible intelligence for any Republican voter. I have read Mitt Romneys public education policy. NO NCLB left in it whatsoever. Read first, open mouth after, Klatu.

also CNSOVIET, you do Know that 99.8% of Moms&Dads that home school there kids are Republicans and Two of the Reasons are "OUTCOME BASED EDUCATION, and Oregons version called CIM-CAM. NCLB is trying to help remedy the problem of these Desasterous liberal indoctrinations. The Zero-The Propagonian, lovessssssssss the expensive CIM-CAM,and of course hates NCLB.
By showing a Biased picture like they did of NCLB,they just continue to digg there own graves.
Ps: I did say 99.8% are Republicans. The other's are Liberals that want even more liberal communism taught in the Government schools but its not happening at this time. Liberal examples are everywhere.
I'm sure there are more conservatives who do that than liberals. When liberals stop killing their unborn children long enough to bring a few up, they may discover home schooling is best. One size fits all (cliche, I know) education is ok for a lot of kids, but certainly not all.
