Cue the football, Lucy. OHSU is having money problems after making inflated promises to the city (and getting the chumps to run the tram), bike boxes instead of dotted lines to really share the road, and Interstate "Cesar Chavez" Avenue.
Voters are being played for chumps.

Fit Meet Shan....Giusto's Troubles with Neil. Go to www.TedKnew.blogspot.com
The Zero's got it here. It's the 300 plus page report about Bernie Giusto knowing about Neil Goldschmidt's rape of a girl in the 1970's. Here's the link to the report.
The Zero's first 'graf states:
Contradicting his public statements, Multnomah County Sheriff Bernie Giusto has acknowledged for the first time that he did indeed share information about sex abuse by former Gov. Neil Goldschmidt in 1989 with Goldschmidt's speechwriter, according a state investigative report released today.
Giusto said he shared "in generalities" information about Goldschmidt's abuse of a young girl while Goldschmidt was mayor of Portland in the 1970s.The state report said Giusto conceded he told Fred Leonhardt, who has previously maintained he learned explicit details about the case from Giusto.
So, if Leonhardt is telling the truth, that means his allegation that Ted Knew is reliable. When will the governor resign?
No on M 50
It's obviously the entree to government paid health insurance. But lookie here at the results from the Portland Business Journal's online poll. Supposedly business smart Oregonians are in favor...or did the 'other' side just get all their buddies to vote? Find the poll here.

Bike v Car
If bicyclists are getting killed because of their missteps, then why do car owners bear the brunt of changes that are being made? Why don't bicyclists have to change?

Spiked! But How Many Times Will US Senators Try to Give Away Citizenship to Illegal Aliens?
Smith voted "No" on Cloture. Good for him. Call Gordon Smith and THANK HIM.HERE'S THE CAPIT0L SWITCHBOARD: 1-202-224-3221.
Cant[do]well, Murray, and Wyden continue to vote to reward illegal behavior with citizenship. Here's the vote. Amazing. Here's the list of how US Senators voted. Observe who didn't vote on: Boxer, McCain, Dodd, Kennedy. Wassup? Is Boxer helping to oversee the SoCal fires? Wasn't she just on Hardball last night dissing the Bush Administration for starting the fires and creating global warming which resulted in brush fire conditions? **UPDATE**BOXER IS IN SAN DIEGO MAKING SPEECHES.
Here's what the Center for Immigration Studies would have resulted if this thing hadn't been spiked and what's at stake if (when) they bring it back:
Some have argued that only 60,000 illegal immigrants would be granted amnesty annually under the Act, but a new analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies of 2007 Census Bureau data shows millions of potential beneficiaries.
# An estimated 800,000 illegal immigrants under age 17 have been here long enough to qualify for legalization under the DREAM Act. There are a total of 1.7 million illegal aliens estimated to be under age 17.
# There are an estimated 900,000 parents of illegal aliens under age 17 who qualify. It is unclear whether the government would deport these parents.
# The DREAM Act is also unclear as to what will happen to the siblings of legalized illegals who are themselves illegal, but do not meet the Act’s requirements. There are an estimated 500,000 of these siblings.
# The DREAM Act also allows illegal aliens ages 18 to 29 to legalize if they claim to have arrived prior to age 16. We estimate 1.3 million meet this requirement. There are a total of 4.4 million illegal aliens in this age group.
# Thus the total number of potential amnesty beneficiaries is 2.1 million (assuming no fraud). This does not include 1.4 million siblings and parents of qualifying illegals who may end up receiving a de facto amnesty.
# Prior legalization programs have been plagued by fraud. One-fourth (700,000) of those legalized in the 1986 amnesty are estimated to have done so fraudulently.
# Given the difficultly in determining whether an applicant meets the DREAM Act’s amnesty requirements, coupled with the overworked nature of the immigration bureaucracy, fraud could be a significant problem.
Methodology: These estimates are based on a Center for Immigration Studies analysis of the March 2007 Current Population Survey (CPS) collected by the Census Bureau. No estimate is definitive, of course, but the Urban Institute, the Pew Hispanic Center, and the INS have all used the March CPS to estimate the size of the illegal population. We estimated that the survey included more than 11 million illegals in 2007. This is entirely consistent with prior research. The above numbers do NOT include those illegal aliens missed by the Census Bureau’s survey. The Department of Homeland Security and other researchers have estimated that 10 percent of illegals are likely missed in Census Bureau surveys of this kind. Thus, the actual number of potential beneficiaries is almost certainly higher than the numbers discussed above.

Updated!!!! Harry Reid Brings Back Amnesty in Vote Tomorrow. STOP HIM.
From the folks at FAIR this afternoon (below). Don't forget to tune in this afternoon/evening 6:35pm for the latest from Bob Dane from FAIR:
October 23, 2007 5:06 PM Eastern
( Washington DC ) We have just learned that the Senate Republican Leadership is taking an official position against tomorrow’s vote on the DREAM Act. They are working actively to whip the vote tonight. The scorekeeping is considered confidential, however, Senator McConnell’s office said the vote is going to be a “squeaker” and they are not certain which way this will turn out. Every single vote matters and every hour is critical.
Amnesty supporters in the Senate believe they are close to the 60 votes needed to get this illegal alien amnesty bill to the floor tomorrow morning. FAIR is predicting an exceptionally close vote and is asking you to urge your listeners to turn up the heat on their Senators.
From our friends at NumbersUSA and FAIR we learn that Harry Reid plans to bring back the so called "DREAM ACT" for a vote on Wednesday. Listen to KPAM 860 (stream here) at 6:35 for an update.
At first blush, we are estimating that this bill would grant amnesty to around 1.4 million illegal aliens between the age of 5 and 19, plus millions of illegal aliens who are between the age of 20 and 30. And that doesn't even count the millions more who likely would be able to obtain amnesty through fraud.Call, fax, or write Senators Wyden, Smith, Cantwell and Murray and tell them you don't want amnesty, freebies etc for illegal aliens. What part of 'no' do these people not understand?

Inconvenient Truth: Walmart Greener than Most
From Business Week comes this tantalizing tale of using dubious green credits (carbon offsets) that companies tout to make themselves look better to the enviros. See the story here. Then comes the observation that, uh, oh, Walmart leads the pack. Sorry Sam. Sorry Randy.
Amid the overheated claims, some corporations have made legitimate environmental gains. Wal-Mart Stores (WMT ) helped spark the market for energy-saving fluorescent bulbs by giving them top billing, even though incandescent bulbs are more profitable. Office Depot overhauled lighting and energy in more than 600 stores, contributing to the company's real 10% decline in releases of heat-trapping gases. Dow Chemical (DOW ) and DuPont (DD ) have significantly trimmed their actual emission levels. But there is still reason to worry about long-term commitment. Dow says it invested $1 billion to help achieve reductions of 19% between 1994 and 2005.
So called REC's (renewable energy credits) have found a critic in the Aspen Skiing Environmental Director who says that "REC's have as much effect on the development of new renewable-energy projects as would trading rocks, IOUs or pinecones."
No Money for Roads but Homer "Halliburton" Williams Gets ANOTHER Subsidy from PDX
As discussed on the show (here )with the reporters on Wednesday...No WONDER Sam the Tram, Mayor Moonbeam and the Rainbow City Council say they can't afford to maintain roads and MUST INCREASE TAXES (here)! They're too busy stuffing lettuce into Homer's pockets, here. And paying off citizens to be the streetcar's best friends here. And giving away taxpayers' money to candidate law breakers here.
When this kind of thing happens in another city and we read about it in the newspapers we call it corruption. What do you call it when it happens right under your nose?
Move Along...No Scandal Here. Hillary Shakes Down Illegals in NYC Chinatown
If this fund raising proclivity had been displayed by Rudy, Mitt, Fred, Duncan, Tom, or even the G-43, this would be a scandal. Instead, however, this shake down of illegal alien and legal Chinese natives in NYC will barely make a ripple because it's been done by Her Thighness, Hillary Rotten Clinton (thank you Mark Levin 2-5pm on KPAM 860).
At least the LA Times is on it but the headline clearly, purposely UNDERsells the issue,
AN UNLIKELY TREASURE TROVE OF DONORS FOR CLINTON:
Many of Clinton's Chinatown donors said they had contributed because leaders in neighborhood associations told them to. In some cases, donors said they felt pressure to give.
The other piece of the strategy involves holding out hope that, if Clinton becomes president, she will move quickly to reunite families and help illegal residents move toward citizenship. As New York's junior senator, Clinton has expressed support for immigrants and greater family reunification. She is also benefiting from Chinese donors' naive notions of what she could do in the White House.
As with other campaigns looking for dollars in unpromising places, the Clinton operation also has accepted what it later conceded were improper donations. At least one reported donor denies making a contribution. Another admitted to lacking the legal-resident status required for giving campaign money.
…several dozen were described in financial reports as holding jobs -- including dishwasher, server or chef -- that would normally make it difficult to donate amounts ranging from $500 to the legal maximum of $2,300 per election.
Of 74 residents of New York's Chinatown, Flushing, the Bronx or Brooklyn that The Times called or visited, only 24 could be reached for comment.
Many said they gave to Clinton because they were instructed to do so by local association leaders. Some said they wanted help on immigration concerns. And several spoke of the pride they felt by being associated with a powerful figure such as Clinton.
A man named Liang Zheng was listed as having contributed $1,000. The address given was a large apartment building on East 194th Street in the Bronx, but no one by that name could be located there.
Another listed donor, Yi Min Liu, said he did not make the $1,000 contribution in April that was reported in his name. He said he attended a banquet for Clinton but did not give her money.
Cue the Chinese monks, "no controlling legal authority," and Bagman Gore. Frankly, I'm shocked she wasn't able to kill this piece like she did the one in GQ.

God Bless America: Except at Military Funerals
From constitutional law attorney and Director of the Defense of Veterans Memorials Project of the American Legion, Rees Lloyd, who says the Veterans Administration has dictated that folds 11 and 12 of the flag folding ceremony invoking the Christian and Jewish God have been cleansed from the ceremony due to complaints.
I salute you for breaking the news on the VA banning of the Flag Folding Ceremony at National Cemeteries. It is an outrage. I anticipate the California State Veterans Cemeteries will do the same thing, surrendering to secular-cleansing atheists and the ACLU, or Muslims who are offended by our American history or heritage being evidenced in the public square. That is, after all, a Christian heritage informed by Biblical judaic and Christian values and principles. Not a single Muslim participated in the creation of America, but they most definitely contributing to its destruction.
From Focus on the Family is the explanation of the ceremony:
“The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life. The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life.” Folds 11 and 12 are the ones that led the atheists to challenge.“The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost.”But the Air Force has replaced that unofficial script with an official one that contains no religious references. [emphasis added]
This is the way in which members of the service expect to be remembered and celebrated. Atheists are saying no.

Portland Trib Says Giusto Could Lose Badge Over Goldschmidt Lying
The Portland Tribune is reporting that the Multnomah County Sheriff is being investigated and will go on what is tantamount to a trial over his public comments on knowing or not knowing about the Goldschmidt rape AND over his relationship with the wife of the former Multnomah County Crime Commission.
The investigation is by Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training so my earlier speculation that maybe Governor Kulongoski would also be investigated wouldn't be done by this group. But it does make you wonder if there should be some investigation. If Giusto is in trouble over that what about Ted Kulongoski? For the details on the allegations into the sordid piece of Oregon's past go here.

Why?
"This is the first time that the Empire State Building will be illuminated for Eid, and the lighting will become an annual event in the same tradition of the yearly lightings for Christmas and Hannukah," according to a statement. Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month, is expected to be celebrated in New York from Friday, depending on when the new moon is sighted, and the city's tallest skyscraper will remain green until Sunday.
Tell me why it's so important to capitulate to Muslims right now when we're in a war with their worst elements?New York's iconic Empire State Building is to be lit up green from Friday in honor of the Muslim holiday of Eid, the biggest festival in the Muslim calendar marking the end of Ramadan, officials said.
Illegal Aliens Look to Oregon: State Laws DO Matter
From a story in the Arizona Republic where voters are sick of footing the bill for people who have lied, cheated, stolen to break into the country and their state. See the article here. Here's what you need to know from it:
The state's new employer-sanctions law and other measures aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration already have prompted many undocumented immigrants to pack up and move out of Arizona. But the majority of the 500,000 are staying put - for now.
Many are waiting to see if two lawsuits aimed at blocking the sanctions law are successful before making a decision to stay or go. Others are waiting to see how the law will be enforced.
If a large-scale exodus does materialize, it probably won't begin until December, just before the new law takes effect Jan. 1, say immigrants, church leaders and immigrant advocates. December also is traditionally when many Mexican immigrants, who make up the bulk of the state's undocumented population, return home for the holidays.
Some are thinking about going back to Mexico. Others are considering moving to states such as Oregon, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Illinois and New York. There is a perception that those states are more welcoming to immigrants because they have passed laws that make it easier for them to live there. New York, for example, passed a law in September allowing illegal immigrants to get driver's licenses, joining eight states with similar laws, among them Oregon, Utah and New Mexico.

Oregon Populated with Hitlers and Goebbels...Not Even Counting the Skinheads!
The head of the Oregon Association of Nurseries apparently is in favor of illegal immigration AND identifying those who aren't as Nazis like Hitler and Goebbels. In the latest issue of the internal organ of the nursery folk, The Digger, executive director John Aguirre gives his best defense for illegal immigration he can by giving clearly incorrect stats on federal prison populations by illegal immigrants and likens Federation for American Immigration Reform, Dan Stein, to a Nazi (Stein is Jewish) and yelping about why illegal Irish immigrants aren't being shown the door. We apparently agree on something.
Email me if you want the whole article at victoria@victoriataft.com but here's the real nut 'graf:
Many of us learned that the word propaganda describes the kind of political rhetoric Adolph Hitler and his henchman Joseph Goebbels used to stir popular support for the Nazi party and to justify the mass incarceration and deportation of Jews. American history has its own propagandists, such as Sen. Joseph McCarthy, whose skillful theatrics and word choice convinced many Americans the "Red Menace" meant communists were working at all levels of government, the media and in the film industry to undermine American values. With the benefit of time and the analysis of historians, we've come to understand how effective and dangerous were the most famous propagandists. Today, we face a propaganda machine as daunting and as chilling as that of Hitler and McCarthy. Anti-immigrant groups like the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) rely on radio personalities … to spew hate-filled rhetoric aimed at immigrants.
Aguirre is no nutball. He's former army reserve, a Virginia Tech grad, and former congressional staffer. Considering his CV he should know better.
Why Phony Soldiers Think They Can Get Away With It...
Just look no further than the Vietnam war phonied up "Winter Soldier" Hearings where John Kerry said he represented 'over 150' soldiers who had committed maimings, mass murders and other atrocities as a matter of course, under orders, with full knowledge of the entire command.
That's why the phony soldiers think they can get away with it. They KNOW they'll get their 15 minutes of fame, the MSM will never check the stories (like in the Vietnam era) and they'll be a hero--despite their uniform.
The American Thinker has a piece you'll need to read on this subject. Herewith are a few excerpts referring to our own [anti war] Senator Mark Hatfield calling for an investigation which never came to fruition:
To be sure, there were some atrocities (My Lai), but Winter Soldier didn't expose them; those had been under investigation and were being prosecuted already. John Kerry's phony soldier atrocities he claimed before a US Senator were not wide spread: they were phonied up to fan the anti war flames and allow this callow Swift Boat skipper his 15 minutes. On April 5, 1971, Republican Senator Mark Hatfield of Oregon, an outspoken opponent of the War in Vietnam, issued a statement calling for Congressional investigation of the claims made at the Winter Soldiers Investigation (WSI). The WSI was an event arranged by the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW). Over three days, from January 31 through February 2, 1971, depending upon sources, between 106 and 200 men who claimed to be Vietnam Veterans delivered testimony about widespread and horrific atrocities committed by themselves and other American troops in Vietnam. Hatfield had been given a complete text of those testimonies and requested that it be placed in the Congressional Record, which it was. Hatfield said:Kerry infamously spoke of "over 150" Vietnam Vets who:"...I believe that the allegations made by these Americans, who served their country in Vietnam, are so serious and so grave that they demand the full study by the appropriate committees of Congress as well as by the executive branch...I will transmit this testimony to the Department of Defense and the Department of State and urge, in accord with its stated policy, that the evidence and allegations it contains be fully investigated.""...told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war..."...[John] Kerry testified that these were "not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command."That brings us to today. We can easily understand the individual or politician who embellishes or fabricates military service to enhance a career. What explains a Jesse MacBeth, who doesn't claim sacrifice or heroics but claims to have committed brutal crimes he never actually committed? What makes a Scott Thomas Beauchamp claim to have engaged in despicable behavior, like sexually mocking a woman disfigured by an IED, when it appears that never happened? In various ways, what they claimed garnered them approval without penalty. The approval and acceptance they receive, that comes to them because they validate the bigotry and prejudice of those who want to believe the worst about our military personnel. They received individual reward and no condemnation or criticism from those who mattered to them. They did not even consider that in claiming crimes had been committed in war by soldiers there was a burden on them to make those charges official, by deposition, affidavit or otherwise. The failure to pursue the Winter Soldier Charges three and a half decades ago enabled the phony soldiers of today to believe they could slander away without consequence.

Cesar Chavez Blvd? What Mayor Moonbeam and the Rainbow City Council Don't Know About Cesar...
The Mayor wants to leave as one of his legacies, a tangible tribute to the ever increasing Latino community in Portland. That's why he wants to rename Interstate Avenue for the Latino labor union organizer.
From Chavez's friend to me when I asked him if Cesar would have wanted a street named for him. Here's his answer:
Cesar is deserving of a street, but not because he was politically correct but because he was a WWII vet and succeeded in organizing the first viable trade union among America's most exploited workers in its most dangerous occupation (more deaths and maiming injuries than even deep mining).
As for political correctness--he wasn't. Cesar called for secure borders most of his career (until the 80's). In 1969, he led a march from Indio, CA, to the border to protest INS's failure to enforce the border against illegal aliens. A decade later, he testified before Congress for control of the border to prevent illegals from flooding in and breaking strikes. In the mid-70's, the liberals were frothing at the mouth attacking him for his stand against illegal aliens and open borders.
Today, phony instant amnesty protestors invoke his name as if he was a champion of open borders. He was the opposite.
The business owners along Interstate Avenue are upset their street is being renamed period. They're sick of the tokenism to be sure but they're also sick of bearing the brunt of the city's experiments. For instance, their street has been torn up for years while the local politicos put in a light rail line called "interstate light rail line" oddly enough considering Interstate is the road they
want to change into Cesar Chavez Blvd.As you may know, 94% of Multnomah County's growth in the past seven years is Latino and there's no question a large percentage of these new folks are illegally here. Paying homage to a Latino leader is part of showing the "tolerance" of Portland. Their allegiance in a future election probably wouldn't hurt, either. Since Oregon doesn't check citizenship when registering to vote and doesn't go back retroactively to check citizenship, no doubt a consolidation of this voting bloc is what the D's desire.

If You Disagree that Portland Needs a Cesar Chavez Blvd, Mayor Moonbeam Says You're "Fearful"
That's to say that if you oppose Mayor Moonbeam's plan you must be some kind of racist! That's basically what the good mayor is saying in this letter having to do with the last public meeting on this issue.
Folks who run businesses on Interstate cum Caesar Chavez have just put up with the Max line extension (against voters' wishes, btw) and are still reeling business wise from that and now they're being asked to change their identity to satisfy Mayor Moonbeam's penchant for tokenism.
The business owners at the last meeting suggested the road dedicated to the union organizer be instead placed in a highly Hispanic area such as Woodburn or Hillsboro (or my suggestion: what about Mt. Angel where the now closed Collegio Caesar Chavez once existed and WHERE HE ACTUALLY VISITED!). That's not racist, that's reality.
What do you say? Here's the letter Potter sent out to the participants at the last meeting. See the actual city ordinance after the letter and ask yourself if this is too soon after the Rosa Parks change.
An open letter to the community about honoring César E. Chávez
(September 26, 2007)
Dear Portlanders:
César E. Chávez's work was rooted in his belief in peaceful and nonviolent action. Unfortunately, this same legacy of respect was not present last week during a neighborhood discussion of a street commemoration in his name.
As I've said before many times: good people can disagree. And many do in this case. The exchange of opinions is healthy for a community to better understand all sides of an issue. But when an opinion is delivered with negativity and disrespect, it is not healthy, it is destructive.
And this should be unacceptable to every Portlander.
Will Rogers once said "you have to go out on a limb sometimes, because that is where the fruit is." I believe this is an opportunity for Portlanders on all sides to go out on that limb together. Yes, we might still come out disagreeing. But what we might achieve is a more authentic understanding of all the different people, places and things that truly make this City who and what it is today.
I urge all Portlanders to learn more about this project and what it means the Latino community. Take the time to listen - and I mean really listen - before making a fearful reaction to the idea of change. More importantly in this debate, let's respect one another. For when we do this, we are really saying to one another "I respect your right to be here."
The Office of Transportation and Office of Neighborhood Involvement have planned two opportunities to learn about this proposal. I urge everyone interested to attend and respectfully share your opinions with the City on this matter.

Mayor Moonbeam and the Rainbow City Council Featuring Sam the Tram Pay Tribute to Zoobombers with $10,000 Grant
The anti social "bicycling" (read car hating) group which calls themselves the Zoobombers spends one night a week taking over the streets starting at the zoo and then 'bombing' down the road (sometimes Highway 26) down to the Goosehollow max and doing it all over again. Of course, rules mean nothing to these guys, so stop signs, red lights, riding in traffic on a freeway mean nothing to them. The Portland Police Bureau doesn't do much about them.
Now, in an amazing accommodation of an anti social, car hating, rule breaking group, Sam Adams will give an artist a $10,000 ARTS GRANT to build a tribute to the Zoobombers. This is so when they're done with their illegal rides, the 'bombers can have a legal place to park their bikes. In order to do this they're calling it an "ARTS GRANT." Paid for by you Portland area tax payers.
It should be crystalline clear to you by now that if you're playing by the rules you get no respect from Mayor Moonbeam and the Rainbow City Council.
Here's a movie of what the bombers do as produced by them using PPB video.
