The head of the Oregon Association of Nurseries apparently is in favor of illegal immigration AND identifying those who aren't as Nazis like Hitler and Goebbels. In the latest issue of the internal organ of the nursery folk, The Digger, executive director John Aguirre gives his best defense for illegal immigration he can by giving clearly incorrect stats on federal prison populations by illegal immigrants and likens Federation for American Immigration Reform, Dan Stein, to a Nazi (Stein is Jewish) and yelping about why illegal Irish immigrants aren't being shown the door. We apparently agree on something.
Email me if you want the whole article at victoria@victoriataft.com but here's the real nut 'graf:
Many of us learned that the word propaganda describes the kind of political rhetoric Adolph Hitler and his henchman Joseph Goebbels used to stir popular support for the Nazi party and to justify the mass incarceration and deportation of Jews. American history has its own propagandists, such as Sen. Joseph McCarthy, whose skillful theatrics and word choice convinced many Americans the "Red Menace" meant communists were working at all levels of government, the media and in the film industry to undermine American values. With the benefit of time and the analysis of historians, we've come to understand how effective and dangerous were the most famous propagandists. Today, we face a propaganda machine as daunting and as chilling as that of Hitler and McCarthy. Anti-immigrant groups like the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) rely on radio personalities … to spew hate-filled rhetoric aimed at immigrants.
Aguirre is no nutball. He's former army reserve, a Virginia Tech grad, and former congressional staffer. Considering his CV he should know better.

A question for all you open borders people here.
Whatever your personal residence, do you leave your doors and windows open and unlocked and allow unfettered access to your home by anyone desiring to enter and use your belongings, 24/7?
If not, please explain why not.
"Fear fear fear!!!"
Sorry, thought I'd just quote you Lew.
Victoria, do you deny that FAIR is an anti-immigrant organization? Not "anti-illegal immigrant," but indeed, one that aims to cut legal immigration itself?
Is a desire for the reduction of immigration racist now too?
If you have the law on your side, pound on the law. If you have the facts on your side, pound on the facts. If you don't have the facts or the law, then pound on the table.
That's what John Aguirre is doing, pounding the table.
I'd like to see the entire article. Do you have this available to post?
Oh Victoria. You spout stats without a problem but question everyone who has their own. You miss the point that people are making paychecks through hate and fear. The shock jocks have a job to do - I get that. But stop whining when groups decide they have taken enough garbage and punch back.
Shouldn't groups pounding back be here at least in compliance with our laws?
There is a difference between the desire to share land, and the desire to share personal dwellings.
It is about how much space I think I have a right to utilize for myself.
My dwelling occupies a small piece of land, certainly less than my share if all the land in this country were to be divided among those who are here and those who will come here during my life time.
So Yes, I feel I have a right to keep it to myself and lock my doors and windows; although I have been known to open my home up to those without a home more than once in my lifetime.
(And I have been burned doing so).
I like the bird feeder analogies much better. I put food out for the birds and I get birds in my yard, they are welcome. If I get too many birds, maybe I will reduce the food. I will recognize that it is selfish, but do it anyway. At some point I have to look out for myself.
How much are we willing to share? How much are we willing to sacrifice to help others have a better life?
Some more than others.
Some perceive it as being more than it really is, some perceive it as less than it really is.
I am not sure that the "anti immigration" movement is racist.
Socioeconomic predjudice may be more prevalent than racial predjudice.
Selfishness is prevalent.
Fear is prevalent.
The use of souped up statistics to invoke fear is often used by those who are themselves afraid.
All of those I know who are anti illegal immigration take it further. They are for changing current law, not just enforcing current law.
They want the law that grants citizenship to those born on US soil changed.
Personally, I am not for giving away tax funded subsidies to illegal immigrants (nor am I for giving them to our own citizens to the degree we now do.)
But I am all in favor of individuals and organizations (such as churches) choosing to give such charity.
Who has proposed that Churches who help illegal aliens be punished for doing so?
Jim and Pig,
email me at victoria@victoriataft.com and I will send you the full piece.
You did read that part of the post--didn't you?
Email sent after I made my post...but was kind of hoping you'd post it for everyone's benefit.
I haven't heard back from you yet, btw.
Jim you might have gone into the spam filter. Try again. Sorry.
Ok, just sent. Thanks!
Thanks for the post.
I started to post a reply and found myself writing entirely too much. If you're interested in my opinion you can find it here.
I find Mr. Aguirre's comments specious, inflammatory and offensive. They should either be simply ignored, recognized as ad hominem arguments or condemned.
For years growers--farmers/nurserymen--have been engaged in an illegal trade of human beings.
For them to call the "kettle black" is an extreme form of obfuscation.
But, they know that.
Yeah, still nothing, I'm guessing you just don't have time to send it?
Does anyone else have the full article? Or a link to it?
