Thanks to The Mercury, we find out that Commissioner Randy Leonard, of the Portland Rainbow City Council, is going to design, with the help of the toilet designers at the water bureau (?!) street "pissoirs."
Apparently the folks at American Standard, Coors, and Toto were unavailable for the job of Potty Planner. And these bad boys are a bargain! Only $500,000.00! As I often maintain: we have more planners than police...and more dollars than sense.
This is what pissoirs look like in cities that have used them.
Women need not attempt to use these, it goes without saying.
I know these guys are working so hard at looking "european" with our tax dollars, but if they're just trying to get away from using city hall for the 24 hour toilet where an average of two persons a night use it for an average cost of $83.00 per potty, wouldn't it just make sense to use these?

Why is pee so important?
Sorry, I know you don't like that word!
The last time I needed a quick break, I ended up buying a $279.00 briefcase. I needed a briefcase...and I knew there was a toilet in there somewhere.
so, is Randy Leonard designing these? or is he ordering them and having them installed? and how does it cost 500,000 dollars to design something that is already been produced, sound like a bunch of typical hyperbole from Victoria with antiliberal slant that makes conservatives look silly, try facts, not inflated issues fed by antidepressants.
Yeah The City that works you Over Isn't going to Stop. It's cheaper to leave City Hall Open. I never thought I would say that. I guess that If Fireman Randy Gets these The Girls and Wannabe Girls will have to be reoresented also. Then Portland Will Truly be "Continental " and smell like a Urinal?
If they do install them, I may just have to make a special trip over to Portland to do what I have always felt like doing and constantly say.
As far as public toilets go,
The European model, is more like this:
Public Bathroom Sign
At first I found that sign interesting enough to photograph, but after a while it became the norm, which is why I found this sign interesting:
Another public Bathroom Sign
Which of the two do you think best suits Portland?
Isn't there some law about art, and that every new state building (or is it federal) has to put so much toward art. I guess that doesn't apply to the city.
But if you use the porta potty model, and leave it there long enough, I am sure that art will find it. (At least for those of us who consider graffiti as a form of art).
To be fair, a "porta-potty" is more than $83. They need to be serviced regularly, and that costs money.
Certainly not $500,000 however.
