Gay Fringe Threatens Oregon Voters Who Sign Petitions *Update

If you don't believe it just take a look at what same sex marriage fringies admit to being up to with so called 'outing' names of those who sign the marriage petitions.
The new web page of the so called "know they neighbor" effort encourages folks to
"TURN THE TABLES" and to "DECLINE TO SIGN."
Do you suppose the homosexual community would support efforts to list names of people who frequent gay clubs, bath houses, or who suffer from HIV?
The petition to which these kooks refer can be found here at www.letoregonvote.org.
The left has been trying to stifle the initiative process for the past few years. Unwritten rules have been invoked to subvert the process by Bill Bradbury and signature rules have been approved with the result being that it is more difficult than ever before to get an initiative on the ballot.
Now this group's aim is to use blackmail, if you will, to discourage people from signing a petition to call for another vote on these two issues that Oregonians have already voted on and decided (but which the legislature overturned). This means this subset of the homosexual rights clan (klan?) now have lowered themselves to threatening people who disagree with them. Sounds like the left is growing ever more comfortable with the totalitarian ways of their heroes Marx, Lenin, and Stalin.

If you want to stand up and deny other American citizens the rights you freely enjoy, you should have the courage to actually *stand up* for what you believe.

Whining about your “privacy” while you actively practice and advocate discrimination is what the guys in pointy white hoods are all about. They, too, feel they have the right to anonymously deny the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to others, based on their own warped ideas of humanity.

Show your face if you *truly* believe in a second class citizenry. Have the courage of your convictions. Let everyone see who you are and what you stand for.

Wow, the special formatting you did really made that stand out. . .not sure where you got the idea I was a communist, the idea of communism/socialism on anything but a voluntary basis (i.e., not gov't sanctioned/mandated) is abhorrent to me. I'm a Libertarian, point-in-fact; the whole point being if two other people wanna get married (provided the usual, consenting, adults, etc.), is none of your business. I'd just as soon the states treat marriage for EXACTLY what it is under laws in all 50 states -- a civil contract.

The fact here is, signing a petition is giving your information to the public. Always has been. Where was everyone complaining on the petition before, that you signed? That info was public too. If you believe in what that petition does, have the balls to stand up and admit it -- and be publicly known for doing so.

Ask Massachusets what they did about this, when it was done there. And there's one other state, too.

Better yet, call the Oregon Secretary of State’s office, and ask them yourself about the legality of this. You can piss and moan all you want, but you sign it, you're gonna be on the website -- there's nothing that can be done. And thanks everyone, for linking to us, makes it easier to google for us :)

Wow, what a bunch of immature posts. Some of the more childish I have seen. At any rate, Aktaion, your post persuaded me that I need to get my name on this petition and at least collect a handful of signatures, something I was not previously inclined to do.

I do not support the "marriage by another name" law the legislature passed and though I am a bit skeptical that the sponsors of the referendum are going to get enough signatures to make the ballot, I want to at least do my part.

As for petition signers names being public information, that has indeed been the case from the beginning. If you are willing to pay the copying fee, you can ge the names of everyone who has signed an initiative petition going back several years. I doubt that many mind that. After all, their names on their voter registration cards are also public information and can even be purchased for a fee, provided the names are not used for a commercial purpose.

KING CITY, OREGON - Homosexual activists are using dirty tricks again in an attempt to undermine the credibility of faith-based organizations working to gather petition signatures in opposition to domestic partnership bills slated to become Oregon law in January. Those faith-based groups include Restore America, Concerned Oregonians and Defense of Marriage and Family Again!

A Portland lawyer with ties to at least one homosexual activist group is accusing faith-based organizations of unlawful fundraising and political activity.

The target of the accusations are organizers working to collect 55,179 signatures by September 25 to place referenda before the voters during the November 4th general election, measures allowing voters to decide if gays should have marriage benefits and special rights.

However, rather than allow voters to decide the future of traditional marriage in Oregon, legal and political activists are attempting to derail the democratic process, in much the same way they derailed Ralph Nader's bid to get his name on the state ballot during the presidential election three years ago.
Oregon Voters and Opponents of Petition Efforts are at Loggerheads
In 2004, Oregonians voted in favor of Measure 36, to amend the Oregon Constitution to state that marriage is "between a man and a woman only."

However, on May 9th this year, Governor Kulongoski signed House Bill 2007 and Senate Bill 2, both slated to become law on January 1, 2008. Both measures were viewed by many as behind the scenes legislative maneuvers to circumvent Measure 36 and the will of the majority.

HB 2007 provides the benefits of marriage to homosexuals in violation of the will of the people.

SB 2 provides specials rights to homosexuals and "will have a chilling effect upon free speech, employer's rights, parental rights, and what is taught in the classroom," according to a press release from Concerned Oregonians. SB 2 forces one kind of morality on all Oregonians, carries the threat of legal action for non-compliance and forces citizens to accept immoral behavior.

Complaint 'Tainted'
Portland lawyer Margaret Olney of Smith, Diamond & Olney, filed a complaint with the Director of Elections John Lindback on September 4, 2007 alleging that faith-based organizations Concerned Oregonians, Defense of Marriage and Family, and Restore America, are acting unlawfully in gathering petition signatures to prevent HB 2007 and SB2 from becoming law. Olney alleged these groups are misrepresenting their status as political committees, inappropriately promising tax credits to donors, and are unlawfully soliciting donations.

Olney's firm has been closely associated with the gay rights organization Basic Rights Oregon. (Three years ago Olney was criticized by the Nader campaign for leveling accusations against Nader signature gatherers trying to place his name on the Oregon ballot, more below.)

The Basic Rights Oregon (BRO) press release came out one day after Olney filed her complaint. In the past, Smith, Diamond and Olney was listed as supportive of BRO. Olney has done legal work for BRO. In 2004 she worked with BRO trying to prevent Measure 36 from being placed before the voters, claiming churches were using food to force the poor to sign petitions. In this instance too, Olney worked with others to file a complaint with the Director of Elections.

All Three Groups Deny Allegations
Basic Rights Oregon has instructed its members to scrutinize petition workers with Restore America to "witness" infractions of law to prepare a lawsuit challenging the legality of petitions eventually submitted to the director of elections.

Now, a Massachusetts-based gay rights organization called Know Thy Neighbor is now working in Oregon, attracted by HB 2007 and SB 2. This group threatens to post names and addresses of all Oregonians supportive of the petition/referendum movement, clearly an attempt to intimidate Oregonians as they tried intimidating voters in Massachusetts and Florida.

Some residents in those states report harassment and intimidation following publication of their names and addresses, acts of discrimination homosexual activists claim they are working to eradicate.

Spokespeople with all three traditional morality organizations deny Olney's allegations insisting they've complied with all state laws and rules governing political activity and the gathering of signatures.
Know Thy Neighbor Tactics Come To Oregon

The CPA for Concerned Oregonians www.concernedoregonians.com is preparing a detailed reply to the Olney complaint. A spokesman there reports the allegations are untrue. Concerned Oregonians does not pay anyone to collect signatures, and is prevented from registering as a political committee until such time as the referenda sought are certified by the elections division. All required federal and state filings have been accomplished on time.

David Crowe, Founder and Executive Director of Restore America www.restoreamerica.org assured Oregon voters his organization operates legally.

Concerning the petition drive to place referenda on the November ballot he said: "Defending traditional marriage and morality is not about discrimination, and common sense citizens know that. It is about what is moral and what is not, what is marriage and what is not, and the right of all Oregonians to make moral distinctions and decisions based on their moral values.

"Oregonians should not be deceived or dictated to by the Governor and a small but vociferous minority and their misguided friends in Portland. Instead, they should sign petitions 303 and 304, and let the people of Oregon decide what is best for Oregonians."

Crowe said he views the complaint filed by Olney as another in her firm's history of unethical tactics, noting the apparent ties between the Governor's office and various opposition efforts, such as the out-of-state organization Know Thy Neighbor.

Three years ago Olney was criticized for sending threatening letters to Ralph Nader organizers. At the time Nader was running for President. Olney wrote to Nader workers telling them she was investigating their petition gathering practices, threatening them with felony charges, imprisonment and fines to $100,000.

At the time, Nader's campaign manager Theresa Amato said Olney's letter constituted "a blatant attempt to intimidate campaign workers and disrupt and interfere with the Nader Campaign, and may constitute a violation of Oregon Statues and Federal Election Law."

Amato asked the state director of elections, John Lindback, to demand Olney cease and desist her actions.

To our knowledge Lindback never ordered Olney to desist, Olney's allegations were never proven, but Nader's name never appeared on the ballot either.

The director of elections eventually concluded the Nader Campaign did not have enough signatures to place his name on the ballot. The courts first contradicted that determination, and then on appeal, upheld the administrative decision of state government, leaving Nader off the ballot.

Interestingly, and in spite of Olney's ethics, she was appointed to the Governor's Law Commission on Government Ethics, in November 2005.

Kulongoski fast-tracked HB 2007 and SB 2, contradicting the will of the people expressed at the ballot box in 2004. Whether coincidence or not, there appear strong connections between the Governor's Mansion and parties working hard to further deny the will of the majority, even to the point of preventing ballot measures from seeing the light of election day.

Currently, in Oregon, there is a citizen drive to put to a statewide vote Oregon's new domestic partnership laws set to go into effect on January 1, 2008. There is also a petition to block a law designed to make it illegal to refuse to hire a homosexual at your own business or to serve him at your restaurant. This is in spite of the fact that homosexuality is a moral issue and that we have rights to our own religious beliefs.

Commentary:
It is truly freaky that anyone believes he has a RIGHT to a job to begin with! If we cannot prove ourselves to be an asset to company, who are any of us to use our government to force a company to hire us? If someone does not believe that we will be an asset to his company for any reason, why should he be forced to hire us?
It is a sad day in America when our government forces us to do business with those who we simply do not care to do business with for whatever reason we do not choose to do business with them. And this goes for both ends, as an employee and as an employer.

Last I knew, we could not be forced to serve anyone. Clearly forcing a restaurant owner to serve a homosexual, when it goes against his religious beliefs to have anything to do with a homosexual, is against the U.S. Constitution in two points.
And is not the forcing on a person to employ another person, the parallel of slavery for the employer? Is he not being forced to serve/give a position to a man who he does not wish to give a position to? If our government declared that man cannot be forced to work for another man, then should not a man who has people working for him, be afforded the same justice to hire those who he wants to work for him?

Petition to Oppose Hate Crimes Legislation

This flawed legislation would create special classes of victims whose pain and suffering, whose very lives, would be defined as worth more than other lives under the law. A Crime is a Crime

Congress is currently considering a bill known as the Matthew Shepard Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act (S. 1105), which would add sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and disability to existing hate crimes law. The US House recently passed the legislation 237-180. It is now pending in the Senate.

In no way do I condone violent crime committed against anyone, regardless of race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, disability, etc. Anyone who commits a crime deserves the full and appropriate punishment as decreed by law.

However, I strongly object to the idea that a crime is somehow more heinous because it is committed against a certain type of person, elevating them in the eyes of the law to a status higher than that of everyone else.

This legislation is also in clear violation of the US Constitution, 14th Amendment, which affords all citizens equal protection:

Section. 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

As I have said before, one can hate the sin and love the sinner. S. 1105 is another attempt by the activist fringes to force the rest of society not just to accept deviant behavior, but to also give that behavior heightened importance in society. In essence, the goal is to make this behavior mainstream and even worthy of special protection.

We are all the same in the eyes of God, and when it is time for judgment, He will consider our good deeds and our sins, our behaviors and misbehaviors. It doesn’t matter if you are gay or straight – a sin is a sin. Crimes should be treated in the same fashion, and in general, established law sufficiently addresses punishment for violent offenders.

This is not an attack on the homosexual lifestyle – sexual deviancy takes on many forms among straight and gay people. However, Americans should not be forced to have to effectively applaud such behavior and even grant special protection to those who sin.
