Ethanol is creating higher prices for groceries part two:
What’s the connection between ethanol, the biofuel produced from corn, and a cherry vanilla ice-cream?
Answer: the first is responsible for pushing up the price of the other.
This month, the price of milk in the United States surged to a near-record in part because of the increasing costs of feeding a dairy herd. The corn feed used to feed cattle has almost doubled in price in a year as demand has grown for the grain to produce ethanol.

you may want to be informed the actual rise in demand for corn products is also related to the increase in energy drinks. Corn sweeteners have risen in use in the last four years by 25%, where does that come from? and what does it do to prices? You can blame alternative energy if you want, but its only a piece of the increase in demand for corn. I am sure if Wyden was a Republican spouting the business of alternative energy helping avoid funding terrorists in Saudi Arabia, you would be on board with the alternative energy ideas. Which by the way, even the most moderate of economists believe Post-petroleum resources are going to create most of your electricity and fuel in the not to far future.
cnskate: Corn is to be eaten not put into a persons car. Its time to build more DAMMS and build more NUCLEAR Power Plants.
HMMMM TROJAN Nuclear Plant????
and there's alot of OIL at there.
so, Klatu, whats wood for? Baseball bats? .... Ethanol can be produced from a variety of sources other than corn and Methanol can be produced from wood, as well as many other sources. You may be a little less informed on this subject than I am. I would love you to hear you say the sun is for tanning, not producing electricity.
I know you'd like to blame energy drinks for the increase in the price of corn but you'd be wrong.
Prices for dairy products have also risen because of increasing demand from China and the Middle East along with the drought in Australia, reduced subsidies in the European Union and the rocketing cost of corn. Oh yeah, the price of transporting Milk products has risen from the high price of oil. Remember when we used to pay 1.75/gallon for gas? that was just before the current oil barrons overtook our country.
cnskate: You asked about wood. Wood comes from trees. The environmental whack jobs, aka treehuggers, will not let a tree be cut down in Oregon or Washington, especially if it was to be used to make ethanol. And they are very likely to be the same whack-jobs that got Schumachers shut down. Besides, internal combustion engines are not meant to be running on vegetable matter. It just ain't right and it isn't good for the engine. And, I've read that it takes a gallon of fossil fuel to make a gallon of vegetable based ethanol. So where's the advantage.
As for me, I will never knowingly put any amount of ethanol into my vehicles. Period! End of sentence!!
Ronny WHY-DONE, DOING WHAT MARXIST SOCIALISTS DO EVERY DAY, ATTACK CAPITOLISM. cnskate, Wood is for Oxygen, Housing, paper, etc. The SUN is for HEATTTTTTTTTTTTT
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ NOT SOLAR _ _ _ _ _. Scottibill, I agree with you about Ethanol, I've had many car mechanics tell me Ethanol is terrible for the combustion engine.
Here in Oregon were forced by Democrats to have Ethanol in our tanks, notice the change every year to Boutique blends between March and Mid June with refinerys, REGARDLESS of the _ _ _ _ _ _ THAT MARXISTS LIKE CNSKATE SPEWS OUT OF HIS MARXIST SOCIALIST MOUTH.
Maybe cnskate should check into what it costs to produce ethanol from corn.
Ethanol Fuel from Corn Faulted as ‘Unsustainable Subsidized Food Burning’
As for wood, tree huggers don't want trees cut down because a bird might live in it and surely can't fly to another tree, EPA types don't want wood burned in fireplaces or stoves because it produces *gasp* smoke.
Of course, we cannot tap the untold millions of barrels of oil while we research better fuel alternatives, it upsets lefties that live thousands of miles from where the oil is.
