Target Store Boots Out Marines--Thought They Were Recruiting

And what if they were? Big deal.

We may hear a few more details about this story but in the meantime let me offer this observation:

How about if you, Target, shut your pie hole and let the guys-- trying to save your butts so that you can sell some more stuff made in China-- shop and perhaps even recruit in your freaking store? Really, was it so long ago that the left was suggesting everyone feel the pain from the war effort? The president said, be normal, don't let the terrorists make you change for them, go shop and get your life back in order. Now that the Marines want to go shopping and these people say "NO"?

CHESAPEAKE - Two Marines in their dress uniforms - the ones with white hats, khaki shirts and blue trousers with red stripe - say they were accused of recruiting at a Target department store here and told to leave.
"We weren't recruiting," according to Cpl. Carlos Rodriguez, 22, who said he returned in October from his second combat tour in Iraq. "I just popped in to say hi to a guy I went to high school with. He works there."
...But an assistant manager who saw Rodriguez and the other Marine apparently thought otherwise and showed them the door, according to both servicemen.
...Target has a strict no-solicitation policy, he said.
...Rodriguez said he and the other Marine were in the Target about 10 a.m. Monday, when they had some slack time from their duties. The second Marine, a private, asked not to be identified because he's new to the Corps, but he affirmed Rodriguez's account.
...Rodriguez, who is getting out of the Marines in June, and the private, who just completed boot camp training at Parris Island, S.C., are both on temporary duty back in their hometown of Chesapeake.
...While they are assigned to a local recruiting office, they are not recruiters and work only as assistants, Rodriguez said.
He said he was talking to his high school friend in Target "briefly and then we were walking toward the CDs when this guy comes out of nowhere. He was the shift manager, or something, and the first thing he started saying was, 'You guys are recruiters, right?' "
The assistant manager said he couldn't have the Marines in the store soliciting workers for the military while they were on the company's clock, Rodriguez said.

"I didn't want to make a scene," Rodriguez said. "We were representing Marines anyway just by wearing the uniform, so I kept my mouth shut.

Probably a Military Hating Democrat Socialist Target Employee
who also hates Military Recruiters,

Ps I bet this same Socialist loves the Idea of

Marines, former Marines, and even ex-Marines (there is a difference -- John Murtha is an ex-Marine and does not deserve to be called a former Marine)should all band together and boycott Target nationwide. Maybe then Target would feel a bit of financial pain. It might do them good.

Or not!!

What Is Wrong You?
Why would anyone boycott a store because of a decision by one Assistant Manager? It isn't a mandate from the CEO that no military people are allowed in the store. You people scare me. I think someone must be contaminating our water supply or something. Furthermore, the Marines should not have been chit chatting while their "friend" was on Target's clock and if they were recruiting for the Corps in this time of war (an ill conceived and messy one at that) shame on them.

I have personally been approached by a former schoolmate in public by a military recruiter. He started a very casual conversation just as the guy described int he story, about five minutes into the conversation he turned to his military position, benefits and college funds. He went on with this for about five more minutes and then started in with how I could do the same, he then gave me a business card to call, with someone elses name and phone number on it. I love my friends in the Army and Navy, I cannot join due to some criminal background problems. But this story sounds so like what I have personally experienced, dont know if its the same, but it sounds too similair

the military came out to my house in person. So whats the problem with them going to Target or anywhere else? 18 year olds have to sign up for the selective service(or is that what its still called. Hey its Uncle Sam, Hey its the Law. Oh and by the way the Government can pick a person up off the street for jury duty. The Military has the right to recruit, even at someones house. Its the Law.A person doesn't have to answer the door though, Yet. Put the Draft back in and everything changes. The Government can make things real difficult for Target Though. Not a smart move on Targets part, let alone High schools and Universitys treating Recruiters in a shameful way like this.

Ps cnskate: heard about "THE AMERO"?
The North American Union?
Thoughts??

Fuzzi, As usual you have your head up your butt. The Marines have a right to be in any store, regardless of why they are there. If they were talking ot a friend, so what? Have you not gone into a store and seen some one you know and chatted them up for a few minutes? Or would you completely ignore that acquaintance? Or do you have no friends? They were not recruiting and, because they were in uniform, does not give that assistant maneger the right to boot them out on some preconceived notion. That clown should be fired. There is going to be a big outcry all over the country over this. I have alerted all my veteran friends about this and they are passing the word. I really believe thatTarget is going to feel this one -- right in the shorts.

As it should be.

What do you expect from a company that kicked out the Salvation Army bell ringers.

I was more responding to the soldiers claim that he was not recruiting the employee of Target. I do not believe I have the capacity to argue the law about recruiting. My experience only sounded similair to this and I am wondering if the soldier was telling all of the truth. I would hope he would feel free to tell the truth and should do so at all times. If I were recruiting in a store and was asked to leave, I would say thats why I was there gladly.

You can no longer be a healthy 18-45 year old male or female and support the war without actually being an Iraq. The troops need your help. Even one person can make a difference. What's wrong: ya scared?

Bush has kids that are young and strong, why cant they join up and get in this war?, oh, one of them has some drug problems. I believe Cheney does too, and heck, with dont ask dont tell, they would be good for something in Baghdad I am sure. Same goes for Bill and Hillary, except their kid has parents that dont believe in war to protect us from terrorists that Bush allowed to attack us. I vote Democrat now because Bush failed in protecting us from 9/11, not Clinton

cnskate,

I will forward to the democratic leadership the news of your support for restarting the draft for military service.

Just think what a catch that would be for the terrorists to get their hands on Bush's kids. Just imagine the blackmail threats they'll make for there return. Great idea ya have there.

The last time I looked service in our military was on a voluntary basis.

AS for your excuse for voting democratic that is a bunch of crap. You probably have never voted for a republican in your life. Why don't you give a excuse that is more believible.

ModerateLew said...

If you are between 18 and 45 years old and support the war, you do not need a draft to volunteer.

Kodiak said...

Moderate,

You have missed my point. I also take issue with your insistance that if you support the war you should volunteer.

Why and how we got into the war is no longer relevant. It is important that we stabilize Iraq and provide an opportunity for the Iraqis to work out an political settlement. For us to pull out now would be an act of an coward.

I have served my time in the army, what about you.
