Holding Their Feet to the Fire

We're here in DC. Yesterday Eric the Great and I visited the Oregon Congressional representatives. Today we visited Senators Murray, Cantwell, Smith and Wyden's offices telling them two things:

NO AMNESTY FOR MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL ALIENS

A CLEAN SUPPLEMENTAL BILL TO FUND THE TROOP SURGE IN IRAQ.

The 37 radio talk hosts from around the country joined with the head of FAIR, Congressmen Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, and Brian Bilbray to call for the securing of our borders first, no amnesty for 20 million illegals, and the immediate pardon of border patrol agents Ramos and Compean. I'll be talking with Mrs. Compean this evening. While they lost me when they tried to clean up a crime scene, I'm in favor of their pardon. We'll talk about it.

qrgqgvrVictoria, I hope you get better responses than I did from teh Washington Crowd. I will give credit to Patty Murray as she nearly always replies, even if a form letter email.

Cantwell, on the other hand, has never replied once.

Maybe they should read some American history, circa World War Two. Things weren't going well in 1942, lots of bad news and setbacks on the Battlefield under Democrat Roosevelt's leadership. Republicans were complaining about the results. Instead of running to our enemies or declaring the war effort 'lost' and underming Roosevelt, the two parties combined their efforts and supported the Troops until the War was won.

Today, Democrats complain about an "open ended war." Since our enemies have been fighting and attacking us since 1979, we sure better be ready to act likewise and keep it "open ended" as well.

They all need to learn we aren't fighting a country this time. We are fighting a radical ideology that is planted in several countries.

Long past time to wake up, America.

lew,

Reading history would be lost on the democrats of today. They nolonger believe in what they can do for their country aka Jack Kennedy. Todays democrats believe in doing for the party where loyality to party is above all else.

So you are in favor of leniency for law enforcement officers who cover up evidence, and lie about what happened at a crime scene?

Do you believe, that when people are placed in a position, where they are given power over others, that trust is critical.
Because any belief that these border guards should be pardoned, seems to indicate a belief that trust is NOT a critical attribute of a law enforcement officer.

This story has become one of my benchmark stories for determining source credibility.
When I first heard the story, I was on the side of the border guards. However, after learning that some very key facts had been left out of the media reports, where I was first exposed to this story, my view quickly shifted.

Now, even after the facts have come out, there is still this push to pardon the agents.
Why?
For what reason should they be pardoned?
Had they done their job properly the drug dealer Mexican might actually have been taken into custody.

It amazes me that people still believe the side of the story, as told by people who have already shown themselves to be less than honest about the facts.

Kodiak,
While I agree with you that many Democrats are putting party politics above what is best for the country, I do not believe that this problem is restricted to Democrats. Nor do I believe this type of thinking applies to all Democrats.

We need far more Independents in Congress. Party Politics is bad for the country. Vote Independent.

Lew,
WWII was a clear case where our loss meant our country would be taken over by an enemy force.
I get that you believe this is the case in the current war. However, those who are against our continuing the war do not see it this way. If they did, your comparison would make more sense.

Coboble, does it matter that the terrorists have stated that is their goal? How many more wake-up calls does it take before people start seeing war was declared on us long ago?

15 terrorist attacks against our interests in the last 28 years should tell people something.

I know well war isn't pretty and I also know that political opportunists have gone out of their way to make this one unpopular. But that doesn't change the fact that our enemies have declared they will destroy us.

Telegraphing our every move over the airwaves and published print does nothing more than embolden the enemy and tell them they are winning.

Should the defeatocrats succeed in surrendering this time, what awaits will make the Nazi's look like patty cake.

If you want a preview of the '08 Iraq debate go find the Stewart/McCain spectacle on Youtube.

Yeah, yeah - Stewart is a lefty. Fine. Watch it anyway.

You'll see every single Iraq talking point deconstructed and shoved right back down McCain's throat - by a late night comedian.

McCain is visibly shaken, and slumps in his chair, speechless. Defeated.

Let me guess - we're about to "turn the corner" in Iraq if we wait another 6 months. Just give the new (old) plan a chance to work or you're not supporting the troops.

Same old same old.

Republicans claim that our very existence as a free democracy depends on victory in Iraq.

Prove it.

Prove that you believe we need to win in Iraq to save our way of life. Tell us how you're going to require military service, raise taxes, double or triple our soldiers pay. Something, anything that would put enough boots on the ground to finish this war.

Complaining that Bush's critics are "hoisting the white flag" just doesn't cut it anymore. This is a Republican failure, and the GOP knows it has lost its credibility on national security if it can't talk straight about Iraq.

No more BS.

The Democrats will end this war by either forcing Republicans to defy Bush or by defeating Repubs in '08.

The "support the troops" talking point is dead. Everyone supports the troops and you know it. The burden is on you to convince me to support the policy.

jm,

No one is going to make you do anything. There is no amount of words that would convince you.

Iraq is not Vietnam period. People like no matter how hard you try cannot make it so. Our enemy there was not inclinded to follow us home. That is not the same in Iraq. The Al Qaeda enemy will follow us home to continue the fight.

It is apparent that you prefer for the terrorists to come here and kill American civilians in their fight to destroy us.

There is no way you will convince me that is a better way.

Finally before you say we can reason with them keep this in mind you cannot negoiate with someone who is willing to strap a bomb on to kill you.
