I haven't used his name here because we know what happens to people who don't toe the line here. They get "Schumachered."
To Whom It May Concern (which seems to be no one in Portland City Government):
I am a sixth generation Oregonian and a life long Portland resident. It is with great concern that I have observed the social and economic fabric deteriorate in Portland over time. For the first time in MY life, I steadfastly refuse to shop in downtown Portland. Between panhandlers, protesters, traffic congestion and the lack of parking, the situation has become untenable. I was once one of the staunchest supporters of the City (and proud of it), but due to mismanagement by City Government, I have seen the socioeconomic climate decline appreciably. In fact, it is now so undesirable to venture downtown that I am seriously considering selling my house in Multnomah County and moving elsewhere. I can assure you that I am not alone in this regard as this has become a frequent topic of conversation among fellow native Oregonians. Unfortunately, this only means Portland will continue to sufferas the overall business climate continues in its seemingly endless downward spiral.
Sincerely,

Whiner. You just can't put up with being "weird" and proud of it. Good riddance! It will be interesting to see if a government can be built on "weird". The crash will be spectacular.
If I was this person, I would have written this Letter "AFTER" I had moved myself, my Family, and Business, across the river to Washington State.
He sent the letter and signed it to Potter. He's a long time Portlander and is friendly with the highest reaches of state government. He'll be outed soon enough I expect, but it won't be by me. I don't want to sink his career or standing in the community. I don't want him to be "Schumachered" by the city.
Boo hoo. Seriously, an out of touch elitist who feels compelled to move from the area because he might scuff his patent leathers having to step over the filthy bums on the walk to his overpriced car, writes a letter, and anyone is supposed to care?
The best I can tell from this letter, is that someone needs to let "the big shot" know that his "you know what" smells just as bad as everyone else's.
r=bs: That "you know what" you referred to would be yours, too. But you probably don't think so.
This letter writer pretty much sums up what more and more prople are thinking daily about going into downtown Portland. My wife and I used to love going to B. Moloch's for lunch on Saturdays. But, with the way things are in that part of town, we will stick to the outer limits and let the bums, panhandlers, protestors, and Tommy and the Toadies have the place.
So does he have any suggestions on what to do about the parking/ Build more parking structures? costs money and brings more cars in which INCREASES traffic. Panhandlers, Well dont give them money, they dont bother me becuase I obviously dont have any. Traffic, hmm, maybe we should move the buildings to open up the streets, or move the bus lanes out of downtown, bringing more cars in, MORE traffic. Protesters, that damn first amendment again, gotta hate that. Protest the protesters, terrorize the terrorists, become a terrorist.
Yes he does. He thinks there should be parking supplied by the private sector.
HempChopper: The Answer is to replace all the SOCIALIST'S from Mayor, city council, Metro, dog catcher with "REAL" CONCERVATIVES.
Yes he does. He thinks there should be parking supplied by the private sector.
Does this plan include changing zoning regulations to allow for higher maximums for all these supposed parking spaces that will relieve all the congestion (this assuming there's only congestion because 100% of these drivers are only looking for somewhere to park)?
Unfortunately, leaving will not cure the problem. Conservative members of the city's population need to step up and out politic those of the liberial mind and move the city government back to the center.
