No big deal. Just your usual benign protesters who have now managed to put the Schumachers out of a legal business. With little to no help from the City except the one time (above) when they wrestled with the law breaking protesters. See previous posts here and here and here and here.
ALF=ANIMAL LIBERATON FRONT
READ ABOUT THEM HERE . And don't forget federal prosecutors shut down an Oregon cell last year.

I think I'll dress up in my Mall-ninja outfit with hood and mask and hang out outside City Hall, and follow the suits as they come and go. I will scream insults at the top of my lungs. I wonder if free speech extends that far.
I'd be embarrased to be a Portland cop.
tromatic go ahead, I think you have a valid point to make.
Do you have the guts to do this?
Because if you are within the law, than if you get arrested, some group will get behind your cause. (Even if you are not within the law some group will get behind your cause.)
I am curious, what exactly is the law regarding protesting.
I think that screaming insults is allowed, unless it violates a noise ordinance or insights violence. (How can a person know if they are going to insight violence. some people get violent over trivial stuff.)
As far as the Schumacher business goes, they have multiple options:
- buy a store of their own
- sell on the internet (as that seems to be the trend anyway, and much harder to protest in a way which intimidates the shoppers).
The Walmart idea may not be so good.
WalMart would force them to sell the furs at a price so low that the Schumacher's would just be pushed out and replaced. They would no longer be of any value in the improved supply chain model. They might be able to get a job with walmart.
However, for the consumer, this could be good (assuming the quality of the fur is not that important).
Walmart would probably care less about the welfare of the animals used to make the fur than the Schumacher's.
We have a surplus of cats. Many are put to death (although that in itself is not something I necessarily approve of). Do these furs go to waste. Does anyone's stomach feel funny when they think of the cat furs? It seems if the animal is dead anyway, it shouldn't matter if the fur is used.
Well said Experiment
Yeah, its funny how a bunch of ANTIgovernemnt Probusiness people want the government to do something about the protesting going on outside a business, seems pretty ironic to me, or just stupid.

with Asian Democrats, and they must be punished. But I'm sorry I can't agree with you Leftists past Cats & Dogs.

It Could Happen Soon Thank God
I assume then it would be fine with all of you if I took a few of my friends who are earnestly convicted about the sanctity of life and protested a few abortion clinics.
teachergirl,
Of course it is alright with me if you protest a few abortion clinics.
In fact I encourage you to do this.
I also encourage you to find one person who is about to get an abortion, and work with that one person to see if you can convince them otherwise, and then help them through the pregnancy, the birth, and then with the child.
klatu,
I don't recall saying that cats and dogs should not be used for fur. I am not sure if they should or not.
It just seems such a waste to throw that fur away after the animals are killed for other reasons.
Teachergirl: Would your protesting at some abortion clinics also include throwing a bomb into the place, as some of your anti-abortion friends are wont to do?
Being Joe "Likud" Leiberman is more loyal to the State of Israel than the United States, the GOP would be a great fit for him.
experiment627 and all other Socialists: What is a "permitted Protest" and what is not a "permitted protest" in your Socialist Mindset????????
Thank you Klatu, That was my point. The people that so graciously suggest I blow up the clinics are obtusely missing the flow of logic. But logic in these instances doesn't always take a front seat.
I doubt these people would defend my right to protest for human life so passionately as they do for animals. The hypocrisy is fun.
And I DO volunteer at pregnancy crisis centers.
I will defend anyone's right to protest, even if I don't agree with their view.
Some of the anti-fur protesters crossed both the legal and ethical line, but not all of them.
I was pretty sure I read that some were arrested for breaking the law (as they should have been).
There is the assumption that those who defend the right of the fur protesters to protest, would not also defend the right of others (who disagree with the animal rights groups) to protest things they feel strongly about?
I don't see where this was stated anywhere by anyone. I don't see how this conclusion is being drawn.
How does socialism correlate with any of this? What is socialist about protesting and using the power of information (however biased or mis-represented) to effect a business? If I had to put that behavior into a economic philosophy bucket, it would go in the capitalism bucket, NOT the socialist bucket.
Can someone explain how it fits into socialism at all?
In fact, laws limiting the power of the protester fit better into the socialist philosophy than the act of protesting does.
Just when did anyone throw a bomb into Schumachers?

Victoria's link to ELF - ALF activities was great, and these days with the left in charge of the House, and Senate,(FOR A WHILE)
their probably wouldn't be a hearing like this since their is a Big connection between THE DEMOCRAT party, UNION Knee Knocking Tactics, THE Mob, and ALF-ELF VIOLENCE Tactics. I wouldn't dought that theirs picture's of our "debate friends" here on this Blog. Hey Socialists "POINT YOUR PICTURE out here, from in front of Schumacher's.
Ps The acadamy awards-what an ANNUAL waste of TV TIME.Just go the way of the DOE-DOE-BIRDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

r = bs: I didn't see in these posts that anyone had thrown a bomb into Schumacher's. I said that I am surprised that some nut didn't do it.
If no one bombed Schumachers, then who was physically injured and disfigured? Or maybe it was their shop that was burned down and their product destroyed?
