Overall, I liked the speech.
I disagree with the immigration refrom "debate" idea. It is ILLEGAL to cross our borders at will without proper documentation and as such, must be enforced.
I will only agree with a "temporary guest worker" program when our own unemployment is near 0. You might be surprised how fast some will find work if they have to pick lettuce at the wages an illegal would get.
If you want our dependence on foreign oil to cease, allow us to drill for it where we know it is within our own borders, as we work on the technology to replace oil.
As for the Democrat response, Webb didn't exactly hit the homerun the left may think he did. The talking point may sound good, but history shows different: Right in a Left World: When Comes The End?
PASSPORTS: If you don't have a Passport you don't get back into the country. And this should go for Illegals coming up from MEXICO. No Passport no Entry

Isn't it odd that the son, Lance Corporal James R. Webb, enlisted in the Marines AFTER the Iraq invasion?
Leave it to an Army veteran to question the sincerity, honesty and integrity of Marine Lance Corporal Jimmy Webb. He recently was nearly killed when a bomb went off near his vehicle resulting in the deaths of three other Marines. Believe it or not all military personnel are not delusional neocons.

None of you have posted anything that showed or said Jimmy Webb feels or said anything of the sort. On the contrary, I do have the link to where he said, “To those who went before me. And to those who didn’t come back. Now it’s my time,” as he was departing for Kuwait and on to Iraq.

You posted to Democratic Underground, if I recall correctly, under a thread that in fact *lamented* the deaths of American soldiers and included post after post from people who repeatedly shared their sympathies with the families who lost loved ones.
They way Victoria presented the issue, it seemed as though everyone who wasn't a conservative Republican took great joy at American losses, and that leading Democrats and liberals with "name value" were voicing this opinion for the masses.
I asked for the name of any Senator or congressman, of any media personality, of anyone with any credibility (so that you don't find a liberal version of Klatu, for instance) who could somehow be justifiably used as an example of the "voice" of the left - no, Lew. You gave me nothing.

Why are you people surprised that Lew personally attacked a Marine serving in Iraq. Look at his posting history. He has attacked generals who do not agree with Bush, whether they are active or retired.
He attacks veterans in Congress who disagree with Bush. The Democrats because, well they are Democrats and the Republican dissenters are classified as RINOs.
Support of the military is only useful to a point for the Neocons. There are no gray areas in Leworld. So lay off Lew. He is only being Lew.
You may be absolutely correct Fizziwigg, but those of us who know someone who is putting himself or herself in harms way in Iraq, find it difficult to remain silent when Lew makes the cheap shots.
