Except alert Gentle Listener (to the Victoria Taft Show 5-8pm AM 860 KPAM) Matthew who, along with most folks, thought the little electronic sign spotted a couple of weeks ago was just some Portland Professional Protester giving his opinion on cars here in the Rose City.

Turns out both cities were targeted for a guerilla marketing campaign by the Cartoon Network, but unfortunately, they failed to tell the authorities. Doesn't matter in Portland really because they blew it off anyway.

Ted Turners - Turner Networks (who OWNS THE CARTOON NETWORK)is the real culprit here. CNN has been down playing this AD PROMOTION by the Cartoon network all afternoon. CNN probably thinks its funny to have little creatures on sign poles flipping the BIRDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.
Where's Portlands BOMB SQUAD? These little creatures have been sighted in Portland. Remember the one at
22nd and Burnside. Liberals Never seem to grow up. There's better ways to introduce comic strip characters to the Public.

Can anyone see that we are living in fear of nothing? We are frightened of anything that we do not identify in our everyday commute. The boxes do not look like bombs to me, the sign up on the light post does not look like terrorist activity, somehow, our hypervigilance has created a state of paranoia that is completely out of control. I was thinking George Bush was doing a fine job of protecting us. Since he is so good at protecting us, why are we so freaked out over terrorists getting us. Either admit the terrorists are still out there and George Bush has not done enough to protect us, or relax a little and enjoy our freedom of guns, porn and cheep gas.
My problem is that some shithead dressed in dirty jeans, an orange vest and a hardat mounted this thing to a pole, and some city employee saluted it. I'm really glad I am not a member of the ROP, as I could have offed the majority of Portland by now, a dozen at a time.

Treechopper, this is what kills me about Liberals, 99.9% of them are still living in a Pre 9/11 world. There may have been a bit of over reaction in Boston but Boston is where 9/11 Started isn't it. Concervatives know to keep their guard up. This little Flipping the Bird Sign had lights and Batteries and from a distance probably looked Suspecious maybe like a bomb. Besides it uncovered more Liberal brainwashing of kids by Liberals who own the Cartoon Network. They'll get whats coming to them. I'm Relaxed every day but I do keep my guard up. Maybe you can find out from Your Liberal friends why the Stealth campaign for this Little Flipping the bird sign around diferent Liberal cities? Why didn't they alert the Police what they were doing? Posters on telephone poles placed down low I beleive are legal in most Liberal Urban City's but placed up High (Like the one at 23rd and Burnside) are probably Ilegal, and the placement of these in Boston are probably ILLEGAL also.

I fail to understand the connection to liberal ideals and these signs. And if say your guard is up, and something never happens, does that mean you stopped it? Probably not, and what does the Post 9/11 world look like? It looks the same to me. What is a liberal city, arent cities a collection of people from all ideologies? I cant imagine a city with only liberal voters running a city. I remember Victoria Taft had a picture of one of the signs on her blog and she related it to the city of Portland hating people that drive, not terrorists. The world after 9/11 has not changed, my kids still cant pray in public school, abortion is still legal, my taxes are rediculous, my business is completely controlled by bureaucracy, I have to drive 65mph on the freeway. And this is after 6years of republican conservatives running the country.
Portland only "yawned" in the sense that the offending material looked like a display of some sort. From the picture posted here, it doesn't look particularly initimidating or strange (in a dangerous kind of way).
Boston, though, seems to have been a different situation, and their reaction is to be applauded, I think. A vigilant bus driver, I believe, saw what looked like an unusual piece of electronics on a bridge - very different from a street post.
Whoever's decision it was to advertise this way really needs to wisen up. I realize that the intent was harmless, but we only know that in retrospect.
It's hardly some kind of liberal conspiracy, as Klatu might have you believe. It was, unfortunately, a case of very poor judgment in this case.
The silver lining is that people will, I hope, be wiser for the experience.
