Castro Relinquishes Power...for now...

To his brother. Story here.
Let the dead pool begin: Jim's already weighed in.

Victoria,

Put me down for Friday at 9 am Pacific time.

And if your taking $1 per square, I'll take 5 squares.

I'm always up for making a few extra bucks, especially when it comes to
watching a communist leader die a lonely, miserable death.

Here's a Dead Pool that's been going since 2004.

What's Wrong With Illegal Immigration? Oh...Read THIS Story:

Read the whole story in the LA Times . Here's a commentary on it at Vdare here.
With two teenage daughters at home and triplets still in diapers, Angela Magdaleno's family overflowed from a one-bedroom apartment in South Los Angeles that they strained to afford...

On July 6, Magdaleno gave birth to two boys and two girls, drawing national media attention as a bewildered mother of 10 (with nine living at home). Now, she and her husband, Alfredo Anzaldo, 44, must figure out how to provide for everyone on Anzaldo's maximum pay of $400 a week as a carpet installer...
Both Magdaleno and Anzaldo are illegal immigrants, settled for years in an immigrant enclave. Magdaleno has the same number of children as her parents, who were peasant farmers in Mexico. Like her parents, she is living in poverty and struggling to provide for her family.
"It's not sweet," said her 36-year-old sister, Alejandra. "It's very sad. The life for girls back there in Mexico is the same as the one Angela has now. They marry and have children, and that's their lives."
Neither Magdaleno nor her husband speaks English, though she has been in the United States 22 years and he 28. Even her teenage daughters speak mostly Spanish; their English vocabulary is limited.
Yet all of Magdaleno's 10 children are U.S. citizens. The triplets receive subsidized school lunches. All the youngsters have had their healthcare bills covered by Medi-Cal, the state and federal healthcare program for the poor.
Alfredo Jr. had been hospitalized all his life until recently. He's had three state-funded brain operations and will require several more, the family said. The couple receive $700 in monthly Social Security payments to help with his medical needs.
"I thank this country that they gave me Medi-Cal," Magdaleno said. "There's nothing like that in Mexico."

Magdaleno's existence contrasts sharply with that of her younger siblings, who followed her to Los Angeles but then left. They have settled in Lexington, Ky., had no more than two children each and built better lives than they had known before. Four bought houses. Their children speak English fluently.
Magdaleno's sisters struggle in vain to understand her. "She still thinks like people in Mexico — that's what I think," said her 38-year-old sister, Justina. "You have to think first of your living children instead of thinking of having more."
Magdaleno struggles to explain. She said she was wearing a birth-control patch to keep from getting pregnant, then took it off when it made her nauseated.
"I didn't want any more children," said Magdaleno, who used fertility drugs to conceive the triplets but said she did not use them in the case of the quadruplets...

Joanna, Magdaleno's oldest daughter, now 20, dropped out of high school and moved out with a boyfriend about the time Magdaleno became pregnant with the triplets. She now works in a factory making dolls for Disneyland, her mother said.
As Angela was having children, her siblings were undergoing a transformation of a different kind. They were slowly leaving Los Angeles.
Her sister Alejandra was the first to leave. In Los Angeles, she and her husband were barely able to make ends meet.
Eight years ago, she and her family moved to Kentucky, where a friend said there was more work and were fewer Mexican immigrants bidding down the wages for unskilled jobs.
In Kentucky, Alejandra picked tobacco. The work was hard and she didn't know the language. But soon, life improved. Over the years, she invited her siblings to join her. One sister married a man who managed a Golden Corral, a chain of all-you-can-eat buffets. Soon several Magdaleno siblings were working in Golden Corrals. Their husbands found work installing windows and as farm-labor contractors. They went to night school to learn English because few people in Lexington speak Spanish.
Kentucky is now their promised land, and they talk about California the way they used to talk about Mexico.
"What we weren't able to do in many years in California," Alejandra said, "we've done quickly here.
"We're in a state where there's nothing but Americans. The police control the streets. It's clean, no gangs. California now resembles Mexico — everyone thinks like in Mexico. California's broken."

In Lexington, she said, "at the school there are just people who speak English. It's helped my children a lot."
Justina, who came to the U.S. with Magdaleno, applied for legal residency under the 1986 amnesty law and is now a U.S. citizen. Magdaleno never applied.
Last year... she sent her daughter, Kelly, 17, to Kentucky for several months. Though American born and raised, Kelly hadn't been outside South Los Angeles.
In Lexington, school was hard because few people spoke Spanish, and the city "barely had one Spanish radio station," Kelly said.
Her cousins, she said in English, "use more educational words than here. My cousin is 7 years old, and he has a better reading level than me. He don't see picture books or drawings or anything like that. He just likes books with pure letters."
Girls from Mexican-immigrant families in Kentucky, she saw, were in their mid-20s and still didn't have children.
"I said, 'Damn, that's weird,' " Kelly said. "The girls right here in Los Angeles are like in Mexico. There are girls that are 14, they got kids."
The family in Kentucky "is more in the United States than" her mother, Kelly concluded. "They want a better education for the kids. With less kids there's better possibility of you having something."
"She didn't do this on purpose," said Dr. Kathryn Shaw, who delivered the couple's triplets and their quadruplets. "She was not at all elated, and not excited about the fact that they were quadruplets."
All are healthy, Shaw said, but weighed between 3 and 4 pounds at birth. They remained at White Memorial Medical Center in East Los Angeles long enough to gain weight, then came home this week.
Now Denise, Destiny, Andrew and Andrey are with the rest of the family.
For Angela Magdaleno, their arrival — 22 years after she left Mexico and entered the United States hoping for a different life — has brought her full circle. Her older daughters, like girls in Mexico, have been drafted into helping raise the new children.
"I don't have anything," she said. "Just children."

Not a World War? Look Where Jihadist Activity Exists. It's Marked in Red for You.

Thanks to Jihad Watch for the Visual Aid. I was inspired to look for a map after seeing one on NBC and after reading Tony Blankley's (author of "The West's Last Chance") latest piece in the Washington Times.

'Bush Lied' Liar's Club Outed for the Last Time

Christopher Hitchens once again points out that Iraq did seek 'yellowcake,' Plame was 'outed' by Joe Wilson admirer (and anti warrior) Robert Novak, and Wilson's entry of her into his listing in 'Who's Who,' and his abject incompetence and lying in his subsequent 'reports' of his 'mission' to Niger. Story here.
His conclusion is below. Read the piece for his supporting facts (including two nuclear experts who knew Zahawie--and if you don't know who Zahawie is, you have alot of catching up to do).

This means that both pillars of the biggest scandal-mongering effort yet mounted by the "anti-war" movement—the twin allegations of a false story exposed by Wilson and then of a state-run vendetta undertaken against him and the lady wife who dispatched him on the mission—are in irretrievable ruins. The truth is the exact polar opposite. The original Niger connection was both authentic and important, and Wilson's utter failure to grasp it or even examine it was not enough to make Karl Rove even turn over in bed. All the work of the supposed "outing" was inadvertently performed by Wilson's admirer Robert Novak. Of course, one defends the Bush administration at one's own peril. Thanks largely to Stephen Hadley, assistant to the president for national security affairs, our incompetent and divided government grew so nervous as to disown the words that appeared in the 2003 State of the Union address. But the facts are still the facts, and it is high time that they received one-millionth of the attention that the "Plamegate" farce has garnered.

Washington State Upholds Traditional Marriage

You're surprised, aren't you?
Here are germane facts, compliments of The Alliance Defense Fund, a pro family, pro traditional marriage group:

BREAKING NEWS -- The Washington State Supreme Court upholds as lawful that state's defense of marriage act prohibiting same-sex marriage: The lead opinion states: "The two cases before us require us to decide whether the legislature has the power to limit marriage in Washington State to opposite-sex couples. The state constitution and controlling case law compel us to answer 'yes,' and we therefore reverse the trial courts."

The six separate opinions issued in the case can be accessed via this link. Washington State's Supreme Court has a total of nine justices. Three justices joined in the lead opinion. The Chief Justice, who joined in that lead opinion, also issued a concurring opinion. Two other justices joined in an opinion concurring in the judgment only, thereby giving rise to a total of five votes to uphold the challenged law.

The Associated Press has issued a news alert stating that "The state Supreme Court has upheld Washington's ban on gay marriage."

Hitler and the Mufti: Radical Islam's Cozy Relationship WIth Nazis

If you listen to the show you already know this connection exists between the Muslim Brotherhood when it began in the early 1920's and the Nazi movement. I've been sent this video by a couple of listeners and thought you would be edified by seeing it. Here it is.

There's No "Eco" in This Terrorist Bunch

Great editorial in the Albany Democrat Herald on the "the Family"-- that bunch of people who committed sabotage and terrorism against all manner of targets all in the name of 'saving the earth.'( See excerpt below)
And don't forget the lesson here: these same people were part and parcel of not only the Earth Liberation Front, but the ANIMAL Liberation Front and the Anti War Movement. If the protesters look the same every week it's because they ARE the same people; it's just that THIS week they're wearing a different shirt and carrying a different sign. They've been outed as dilettantes and frauds.

They bombed installations such as wild-horse corrals in Burns, a federal plant inspection station in Washington state, and a lumber company office in Monmouth. They also torched a lumber mill office in Glendale and a truck dealer in Eugene. In all, they launched 16 firebombings or other attacks between 1997 and 2001.
Predictably, their actions proved pointless. Meat eating was not reduced. The fate of domestic animals was not improved. In attacking research laboratories, they destroyed material intended to improve the environment by better farming practices.

Oregon's (alleged) Terror Funding Organization Gets Religious Tracts Back

The Oregon based organization accused by the US Treasury of being a money conduit for terror organizations will get its religious literature back. The Al Haramain organization, based in Ashland, stands accused of receiving money for "charitable purposes" and giving it to Al Qaeda. The principals of the organizations are off sorting their socks where the feds can't touch them.
Here's what the Treasury said about the organization when it shut them down in 2004:

The investigation shows direct links between the U.S. branch and Usama bin Laden. In addition, the affidavit alleges the U.S. branch of AHF criminally violated tax laws and engaged in other money laundering offenses. Information shows that individuals associated with the branch tried to conceal the movement of funds intended for Chechnya by omitting them from tax returns and mischaracterizing their use, which they claimed was for the purchase of a prayer house in Springfield, Missouri.

Other information available to the U.S. shows that funds that were donated to AHF with the intention of supporting Chechen refugees were diverted to support mujahideen, as well as Chechen leaders affiliated with the al Qaida network.

T
he Oregonian on Saturday reported the story that the organization, which has sued the US Government for eavesdropping on privileged attorney/client phone calls, asked for the tracts back.

Metro Seeks to be Health Care Police Too

If you're a business owner, if you're a taxpayer, be very afraid. Mission creep has set in and Metro now thinks its the business of regional government to do something about overseeing health care. You think the Oregon Health Plan is a fiscal black hole which mandated rationed health care and removing choice? Wait until Metro meddles in health care. Who's behind it? Well the same people behind no borders, higher minimum wages, and the "I Hate Walmart" movement, of course, the Service Employees International Union (S.E.I.U.).The Portland Tribune takes a look at the issue with Friday's editorial:

Metro councilors will receive a staff report next month outlining a variety of health care-related options. Some activists and Local 49 of the Service Employees International Union are raising the possibility of Metro taking on a health care role.
One idea is for Metro to appoint a community board that would create a comprehensive health care plan for the region and also be asked to review hospital facility plans.
The union and other groups prodding Metro into the health care arena say they are particularly concerned that hospital systems are spending more on expansion and growing their market share than they are on persistent needs such as mental health services, primary care and emergency care.

Remember Thursday night when I talked (AM 860, 5-8pm) about Portland's future and how it would take cues from San Francisco on giving away (at the taxpayer expense, of course) health care to anyone who lives there and in Chicago where the food police are on the march, I thought we might have a little time. However, it appears the time has come to start yelling...or leaving.

The Tesla Roadster: Runs on Lithium Batteries

The Tesla Roadster, powered by more than 6,800 lithium-ion batteries, can go zero to 60 mph in about four seconds. Top speed: 130 mph. Wired News has the full story here.

It has taken [Martin] Eberhard three years to get this prototype ready for mass production, but with the backing of PayPal cofounder Elon Musk, Google's Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and ex-eBay chief Jeff Skoll, he has created Silicon Valley's first real auto company.

The trick? The Tesla Roadster is powered by 6,831 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries -- the same cells that run a laptop computer. Range: 250 miles. Fuel efficiency: 1 to 2 cents per mile. Top speed: more than 130 mph. The first cars will be built at a factory in England and are slated to hit the market next summer. And Tesla Motors, Eberhard's company, is already gearing up for a four-door battery-powered sedan.

Question: Is this thing gonna work?

The Al Qaeda Prison Manual Used by Gitmo Bad Guys. Yeah, We Knew That...

But I guess it's news to WaPo where they cite a CIA report found on The Smoking Gun:
(Naturally the administration has been saying this all along but MSM refused to believe 'em).
The first wave of detainees at the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, created their own internal organizational structure to maintain morale, resist interrogation and recruit members, adhering to instructions in a 10-year-old al-Qaeda training manual, according to a classified report by analysts in the CIA's Counterterrorism Center.

On several occasions since the first prisoners were sent to Guantanamo Bay in 2002, administration officials have publicly alleged that captives were following training outlined in the al-Qaeda manual. Staging hunger strikes and inventing claims of abuse are two of the tactics described, officials have said.
The Smoking Gun noted that although the report was prepared almost four years ago, "U.S. concerns about communication methods of detainees has not waned. Following last month's simultaneous suicides of three inmates, authorities alleged that other detainees may have aided the trio in killing themselves as part of a broader plot to disrupt the facility."
The CIA report suggests several steps to counteract the al-Qaeda approach, including inhibiting communication and contact inside and outside the prison.

I can see it now: International condemnation because we don't let these guys talk to each other now...

The Bush Doctrine (Pre-emption)...

Andy McCarthy of National Review wonders, 'wha' happened?'
That doctrine, highlighted with great moral clarity a year later in “The National Security Strategy of the United States,” asserts that: “The United States will make no concessions to terrorist demands and strike no deals with them. We make no distinction between terrorists and those who knowingly harbor or provide aid to them.” (Emphasis added.) Even as the State Department and the White House were in the final days of considering their sea change in Iran policy, President Bush took the opportunity of his West Point commencement address on May 27 to reaffirm that “America makes no distinction between the terrorists and the countries that harbor them. If you harbor a terrorist, you are just as guilty as the terrorists and you’re an enemy of the United States of America.”

Hezbollah...in the US

See that picture? That's from San Francisco.
Here's the link.
From a person on scene:
The recent fighting in and around Israel spilled over onto the streets of San Francisco on Thursday, July 13, when Palestinian and left-wing groups staged a protest in front of the Israeli Consulate in the city's Financial District. An equal number of pro-Israel counter-protesters showed up to make their voices heard as well, and from the start the two sides were battling it out with a war of words and symbols. The protest was organized by Al-Awda (a group devoted to dismantling Israel and replacing it with a Palestinian state), A.N.S.W.E.R. (a communist group) and a coalition of other Islamic and socialist organizations.

Iraq WMD: Location, Location, Location!

From Captain's Quarters

July 17, 2006
Foreign Intel Had Identified WMD Sites

In the last of the documents of this release, an undated memorandum from the director of the IIS to the Military Industrialization Commission (MIC) discusses counterintelligence information regarding an informant with knowledge of the locations for Iraqi WMD programs. Document ISGZ-2004-007589-HT-DHM2A directs the MIC to change the locations of their assets (emphases mine):

We were informed by one of our sources working abroad, that foreign intelligence is working to obtain information about some military and scientific targets in the Country. The undercover source provided us with a map of the targets, for which he was assigned to gather information during his visit to the Country. For the purpose of pointing out the enemy’s interest, and to enable you to maneuver by changing the locations of these targets, in order to foil enemy’s plans, we hereby list the following:

1- He was presented with a map by the Foreign Intelligence, indicating the nuclear sites in the Country. Our source noticed that most of the sites are located near Mawsil and on the Tigris River, and some on the outskirts of Baghdad.

2- Another map indicated the Chemical sites, of which most are located in the suburbs of Baghdad, north and south of the city. It was noticeable that the sites north of Baghdad were more numerous than those in the south. The Map also marked some sites located on the outskirt of Mawsil City.

3- The third map marked the sites of long range Missiles.

4- A satellite image of the Al-Taji area, indicated orchards located in the triangle of Kirkuk-Mawsil Road, after the Baghdad Gate. Our source was informed that missiles and important military equipment were hidden in these orchards. He was asked to go to the area and observe whether it was well protected by military units and check the presence of any radar [TC: Satellite Dishes] in the area.

5- There are a large number of hidden missiles in the Al-Mahawil and Jubaylah area.

6- There is a warehouse for chemical material in the Al-Mahmudiyah area.

7- On the Baghdad-Falujah road and near Falujah checkpoint, there is a nonfunctional Cement Factory, which is being used for storing Chemical materials. Please observe whether there is any protection around the Factory.

8- Missiles were hidden in the triangle located near the Presidential Palace along the highway to Saddam’s International Airport.

9- There is a missile testing laboratory in the Al-`Amiriyah area.

10- There is secret airport designated for emergency use in the Al-`Aziziyah area, where sixty-five missiles are hidden.

11- Chemical materials were moved from the Al-Qa`qa` depot and hidden in the Industrial High School in Al-Musayib, in the Agricultural High School at al-Yussifiyyah, and other specific schools in al-Mahmudiyyah.

12- Al-Taji Area (Al-Tarmiyyah Triangle).

13- Al-Tharthar area (Tal al-Tharthar) [TC: could be Mountain], north west of the mountain slope (tourist area) [TC: Al-Tharthar is considered a tourist area]

14- Also Missiles were hidden at Biji Refinery.

The MIC had responsibility for all of the WMD programs, including their development, production, distribution, and storage. The message from the top man at the IIS was clear: this information was correct, and the MIC needed to act fast to move the assets around to keep them from discovery. Counterintelligence found out about his visit in time to make the changes necessary.

The Iraqis had WMD. They knew when to move them to keep them from being discovered -- a task for which they apparently had abundant talent.

*UPDATE: The Only Thing the NYT DIDN'T Do Was Say, "That one, yeah, THAT guy, over there."

This just in Tuesday:

The New York Times plans to narrow the size of its flagship newspaper and close a printing plant, resulting in the loss of 250 jobs, the company said in a story posted on its Web site late on Monday.
The changes, set to take place in April 2008, include the closure of a printing plant in Edison, New Jersey. The company will sublet the plant and consolidate its regional printing facilities at a plant in Queens, the paper said.
The newspaper will be narrower by 1 1/2 inches. The redesign will result in the loss of 250 production jobs, the company said.

Disproportionate response. Compared to what? Syria, Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas arrayed against Israel?

President Bush: "Yo Blair...[we've got to] get Syria, to get Hezbollah to stop doing this *$!* and it's over..."

See it for yourself here.
Here's what it shows: these guys aren't fooled, they have a great relationship, George Bush smacks while he's eating in front of world leaders --ew--, and they hold the UN with about as much disdain as the thinking world does, which is to say, a large amount.

The following is from SkyNews:
A fascinating conversation between Tony Blair and George Bush has been caught by the microphones at the G8, when the two men didn't think they were being overheard. It tells us a lot about the relationship between the two men, about the US-UK special relationship and the two men's views on the Middle East. Here's a transcript as best as we can make out.

Bush: Yo Blair How are you doing?
Blair: I'm just...
Bush: You're leaving?
Blair: No, no, no not yet. On this trade thingy...[inaudible]
Bush: yeah I told that to the man
Blair: Are you planning to say that here or not?
Bush: If you want me to
Blair: Well, it's just that if the discussion arises...
Bush: I just want some movement.
Blair: Yeah
Bush: Yesterday we didn't see much movement
Blair: No, no, it may be that it's not, it maybe that it's impossible
Bush: I am prepared to say it
Blair: But it's just I think what we need to be an opposition
Bush: Who is introducing the trade
Blair: Angela
Bush: Tell her to call 'em
Blair: Yes
Bush: Tell her to put him on them on the spot. Thanks for [inaudbible] it's awfully thoughtful of you
Blair: It's a pleasure
Bush: I know you picked it out yourself
Blair: Oh, absoultely, in fact [inaudble]
Bush: What about Kofi [inaudible] his attitude to ceasefire and everything else ... happens
Blair: Yeah, no I think the [inaudible] is really difficult. We can't stop this unless you get this international business agreed.
Bush: Yeah
Blair: I don't know what you guys have talked about but as I say I am perfectly happy to try and see what the lie of the land is but you need that done quickly because otherwise it will spiral
Bush: I think Condi is going to go pretty soon
Blair: But that's that's that's all that matters. But if you, you see it will take some time to get that together
Bush: Yeah, yeah
Blair: But at least it gives people...
Bush: It's a process, I agree. I told her your offer to...
Blair: Well...it's only if I mean... you know. If she's got a..., or if she needs the ground prepared as it were... Because obviously if she goes out, she's got to succeed, if it were, whereas I can go out and just talk
Bush: You see, the irony is ... thing is what they need to do is to get Syria, to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit and it's over
Blair: [inaudible]
Bush: [inadubile]
Blair: Syria
Bush: Why?
Blair: Because I think this is all part of the same thing
Bush: Yeah.
Blair: What does he think? He thinks if Lebanon turns out fine, if we get a solution in Israel and Palestine, Iraq goes in the right way...
Bush: Yeah, yeah, he is sweet
Blair: He is honey. And that's what the whole thing is about. It's the same with Iraq
Bush: I felt like telling Kofi to call, to get on the phone to Bashad [Bashir Assad](9a and make something happen
Blair: Yeah
Bush: [inaudible]
Blair:
Bush: We are not blaming the Lebanese government
Blair: Is this...? (at this point Blair taps the microphone in front of him and the sound is cut.)

While You Were Vacationing...Portland City Council Goes Wild!

On Wednesday City Commissioner Randy Leonard proposed and got passed a new ordinance to proscribe the kinds of fuels Portlanders should have to put in their gas tanks. Biodiesel and ethanol infused gas will now be your only choices (all year round) in Portland. Left to be answered is the question of whether this decision dictates the kind of gas all other gas stations in the region have to use due to all the stations using the same suppliers--clever, huh? Leonard's office staff says this was a real coup in that they've 'created the demand' (that's a real quote) now for this type of fuel. See, two biodiesel plants were encouraged to set up shop but the owners told the city there wasn't enough demand so they 'created' it by stifling competition.
So the upshot is that Portlanders' gas will now be more expensive. Take THAT gas station owners and consumers. Also, Randy's office says you won't mind paying more. Really. They said that.

On Thursday in another blitzkrieg against the free market place, the council --this time at the behest of notorious Walmart hater Sam Adams-- (here's his latest blog entry:

"Bad news, it is confirmed that Wal-Mart is on the march into Portland with a new location on Hayden Island. Soon, we will announce an organizing meeting to fight their proposal. Stay tuned.")
took the first step to stop building altogether on Hayden Island. The empty Thunderbird Hotel was being considered as a site for a Walmart. Now let's get this straight, they will vote in 45 days to stop all building for two years on Hayden Island just to screw this landowner out of an opportunity to use his property for a Walmart. Will Walmart be appropriate for the site? Doesn't matter. The council has chosen the winners and losers in this charade and the big loser is the land owner. ("Hello, Measure 37 attorney? Hi, I've just been screwed out of using my land..."). I'm sure Walmart can take care of itself. Adams, who conspicuously took his anti Walmart sign out of his office window before the vote, also---after the die for this fiasco was cast---said he would recuse himself from voting any more on Walmart issues. Still he said this vote yesterday wasn't about hating Walmart. Really.

The Best Obit. Ever.

Yes, there can be a funny obituary. Here's the funniest I've ever seen. It's real, too. Here's the link.

Frederic Arthur (Fred) Clark, who had tired of reading obituaries noting other's courageous battles with this or that disease, wanted it known that he lost his battle as a result of an automobile accident on June 18, 2006. True to Fred's personal style, his final hours were spent joking with medical personnel while he whimpered, cussed, begged for narcotics and bargained with God to look over his wife and kids. He loved his family. His heart beat faster when his wife of 37 years Alice Rennie Clark entered the room and saddened a little when she left. His legacy was the good works performed by his sons, Frederic Arthur Clark III and Andrew Douglas Clark MD, PhD., along with Andy's wife, Sara Morgan Clark. Fred's back straightened and chest puffed out when he heard the Star Spangled Banner and his eyes teared when he heard Amazing Grace. He wouldn't abide self important tight *censored*. Always an interested observer of politics, particularly what the process does to its participants, he was amused by politician's outrage when we lie to them and amazed at what the voters would tolerate. His final wishes were "throw the bums out and don't elect lawyers" (though it seems to make little difference). During his life he excelled at mediocrity. He loved to hear and tell jokes, especially short ones due to his limited attention span. He had a life long love affair with bacon, butter, cigars and bourbon. You always knew what Fred was thinking much to the dismay of his friend and family. His sons said of Fred, "he was often wrong, but never in doubt". When his family was asked what they remembered about Fred, they fondly recalled how Fred never peed in the shower - on purpose. He died at MCV Hospital and sadly was deprived of his final wish which was to be run over by a beer truck on the way to the liquor store to buy booze for a double date to include his wife, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter to crash an ACLU cocktail party. In lieu of flowers, Fred asks that you make a sizable purchase at your local ABC store or Virginia winery (please, nothing French - the *censored*) and get rip roaring drunk at home with someone you love or hope to make love to. Word of caution though, don't go out in public to drink because of the alcohol related laws our elected officials have passed due to their inexplicable terror at the sight of a MADD lobbyist and overwhelming compulsion to meddle in our lives. No funeral or service is planned. However, a party will be held to celebrate Fred's life. It will be held in Midlothian, Va. Email fredsmemory@yahoo.com for more information. Fred's ashes will be fired from his favorite cannon at a private party on the Great Wicomico River where he had a home for 25 years. Additionally, all of Fred's friend (sic) will be asked to gather in a phone booth, to be designated in the future, to have a drink and wonder, "Fred who?"

Commanders in Chief: Supreme Court

More on the effort to undermine the war on terror with that awful Hamdan decision. Here's my earlier post on it. Here's Andy Mc Carthy's view of what this means. Here's a snippet from his piece as the set up:

The Supreme Court’s decision in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld is a national-security disaster. Forget about its undermining of military commissions. Forget even about its rewriting of the Geneva Conventions into something the United States would never have ratified.

A Reminder About WMD in Iraq. We Found Some.

Congressional Republicans are at odds with Democrats -- and the Bush administration -- over the significance of 500 munitions found in Iraq since 2003 and recently disclosed by the Pentagon.
The rocket and artillery shells hold deadly sarin and mustard gas, a small part of the vast weapons of mass destruction (WMD) arsenal that Saddam Hussein built in the 1980s.
Republican lawmakers say the 500-plus shells, with more likely to be found in the coming months, are evidence that Saddam was still concealing WMDs in 2003 in violation of United Nations resolutions to disarm after Iraq's failed invasion of Kuwait.
The resolution "didn't say pre-'91 chemical weapons," said Rep. Curt Weldon, Pennsylvania Republican. "It didn't say post-'91 chemical weapons. It said chemical weapons. Saddam Hussein violated this resolution and others like it. ... In part because of such violations, we voted to authorize the use of military force in Iraq."

MinuteMan Attacked By Angry Coyote. Video Here

It happened in Rancho Bernardo (San Diego County), California when a Minuteman showed up armed with a camera to take pictures of a day laborers spot next to a gas station. This area usually is teeming with as many as 75 workers from Mexico on a daily basis.
See the stream of illegal workers coming out of the van here.
See the attack here. The Minuteman was struck three times and one of the 'they're just here to work' types brandished a knife at him.
Thanks to Rick Roberts for the info and video.

Oregon Immigration Activists, Court Watchers, GOP Wonder: Where Are Your Clothes, Emperor Ted?

I mentioned it on the show Friday night (now heard 5-8pm on KPAM AM 860), but you'd be surprised at how PO'd the GOP and Immigration activists are that the soon to be deposed Governor of Oregon is BY FIAT AT LONG LAST ASKING FOR ID of 11,000 people who got Oregon Driver's Licenses from a now discredited DME (offshoot of DMV) because they were probably illegally obtained (using phony rental agreements--as we told them).
The question of course is: where was his presence when 80,000 driver's licenses were given out to illegal aliens? Where was he when we begged him to begin calling on the DMV to require verified resident status to get a driver's license?
I'll tell you where he was: He was a no-show.
Here's where we called on him to require ID for driver's licenses. Here's a copy of our Operation ID letter. Below the DMV's Press Release from Friday (which we read to you on the air) in which he NOW ---finally---asks for ID to get licenses.
We smell a reelection campaign in trouble.
The Victoria Taft Show, Oregonians for Immigration Reform, Ruth Bendel and Mike Balanesi (court watchers at the previous trials about phony docs for driver's licenses scam trials), State Representatives Kim Thatcher, Derrick Kitts, and Linda Flores' staff who tried in the last session to accomplish this and were TURNED DOWN by the Democrats in charge of the Senate Kate Brown and Peter Courtney at the urging of the Governor and Secretary of State. The jig is up.
Emperor Ted you're wearing no clothes.

DMV asks 11,000 customers to verify addresses

SALEM, Ore. — An investigation by federal and state law enforcement, at the request of the state Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division (DMV), revealed fraud in a privatization of drive-testing pilot program, forcing DMV to require verification of residence by 11,000 customers who took drive tests from two companies during 2003.

The investigation determined that some customers of two private companies, Catt’s Testing and DME, provided false Oregon addresses in order to obtain driver licenses.

DMV will send letters to affected customers, asking them to provide proof that they are residents of Oregon.

“We need to determine which of these 11,000 people are legal Oregon residents,” said DMV Administrator Lorna Youngs. “We apologize for the inconvenience to people who are lawful Oregon residents, but we have determined that this is the most reliable way to verify eligibility.”

DMV launched the third-party Class C (passenger vehicle) drive-test program in January 2000 as part of a privatization initiative directed by the Legislature. The program was patterned after the third-party drive-test program for commercial driver licensing.

Recipients will have 30 days to provide proof that they are Oregon residents. The state will cancel the driver licenses or identification cards of those who do not respond or who can’t provide proof of an Oregon residence address within 30 days.

Drivers who tested at DME or Catt’s Testing, and have moved within Oregon since obtaining their licenses, should send their current Oregon addresses to DMV as soon as possible. Otherwise, they may not receive the letter informing them of impending cancellation. If DMV receives no response, it will cancel a recipient’s license or ID card.

Oregon law requires individuals to provide their new address within 30 days after they move within the state.

Because the third-party testing companies such as Catt’s Testing and DME operated primarily in the Portland area, the majority of cases occurred in the metro area.

The information came as a result of police investigations that DMV requested in early 2003. The investigations led to the arrests and convictions of several people involved in providing false documents with Oregon addresses for customers who were not Oregon residents.

Observations and analyses by DMV employees led to initial suspicion that some customers of the third-party Class C pilot program were not Oregon residents. DMV notified Oregon State Police in spring 2003, spurring an investigation that lasted through the year.*

DMV canceled the program in November 2003 and modified the list of documents accepted to verify residence address in January 2004. The agency has submitted additional changes to the list of acceptable documents to the state rules-making process – such as no longer accepting rental or lease agreements as proof of Oregon address.

At the conclusion of the police investigation and criminal trials, law enforcement provided DMV with the testimony, affidavits, statements, investigative interviews and an appointment book from one of the companies in March 2006. DMV then analyzed the information to yield the list of 11,000 customers.**

Some out-of-state residents falsely claim an Oregon residence because Oregon law does not require proof of citizenship or legal immigration status to obtain a driver license. Governor Ted Kulongoski will submit a bill to the 2007 Oregon Legislature to achieve compliance with the federal Real ID Act, which includes a requirement that applicants provide proof of citizenship or legal immigration status in order to obtain a driver license. The 2007 Legislature will decide whether Oregon will adopt this requirement.***

Jordan 'Ringer' says Life is Hell I Want Some Money

Guess he never thought to grow his hair, beard, something that would reduce the chances of looking like Michael Jordan.
Oh, and he's suing Jordan and Phil Knight (for making him a star) for $832 million. Here's the rest of the story.

This tidbit below is from KGW:
“I'm constantly being accused of looking like Michael and it makes it very uncomfortable for me,” said Heckard.
Heckard is suing Jordan for defamation and permanent injury and emotional pain and suffering. He’s suing Knight for defamation and permanent injury for promoting Jordan and making him one of the most recognized men in the world.
Heckard stands just over six feet tall. He is not six foot six like the real Michael Jordan. But Heckard says many people seem to miss that. He does share a bit of resemblance to the real Michael Jordan. Heckard has a shaved head, an earring in his left ear, and is in good shape from working out, and yes, playing basketball.
“Even when I go to the gym I'm being accused of playing ball like him (Jordan), said Heckard."
Most people would consider that a high compliment.
"Yes...don’t get me wrong it’s definitely a positive thing, because Michael, like I say is one of the best ball players that I've known to play the game. But then again, that's Michael and I'm me. So I want to be recognized as me just like Michael's being recognized as Michael."
Dressed in blue Air Jordan tennis shoes, Heckard might seem to be actually trying to look like Jordan but Heckard doesn’t see it that way.
