UPDATED **Rush Limbaugh Ends Investigation AND Pleads Not Guilty to Doctor Shopping

Here are Mark Levin and Andrew Mc Carthy on Rush here.
And here's the Money Quote:

We are former federal government attorneys. We’ve collectively spent decades in law enforcement and believe passionately in its professional, non-political, non-partisan mission. Thus, it’s with outrage that we note that, rather than quietly dropping this embarrassment of an investigation, the state attorney, Barry Krischer—a politically active liberal Democrat—has insisted on filing a charge which he well knows will never be tried. Insisting, that is, on further media churning of an allegation of doctor-shopping that he’ll never prove.

Law enforcement officials say Rush Limbaugh was arrested today on prescription drug charges.

According to a spokeswoman for the State Attorney's office, Limbaugh turned himself in to authorities on a warrant issued by the State Attorney's Office.

The spokeswoman says the conservative radio commentator came into the jail at about 4 p-m with his attorney Roy Black and bonded out an hour later on a 3,000 dollar bail.

Get the rest of the story here.
Here's what Limbaugh's attorney, Roy Black, says about the case:
"I am pleased to announce that the State Attorney's Office and Mr. Limbaugh ahve reached an agreement whereby a single count charge of doctor shopping filed today by the sState Attorney will be dismissed in 18 months. As a primary condition of the dismissal, Mr. Limbaugh must continue to seek treatment from the doctor has seen for the past two and one half years. this is the same doctor under whose care Mr. Limbaugh has remained free of his addiction without relapse.
"Mr. Limbaugh and I have maintained from the start that that there was no doctor shopping, and we continue to hold this position. Accordingly, we filed today with the Court a please of '
Not Guilty' to the charge filed by the state. As part of this agreement, Mr. Limbaugh also has agreed to make a $30,000 payment to the State of Florida to defray the public cost of the investigation. '

And the fall out of the case? Less security for our medical records?

Whose Anthem is it Anyway? Hear it Here.

The President of the United States say he thinks the National Anthem of America should be sung in English. Hear the Nuestro Himno here.

"I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English, and I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English."

The National Council of La Raza, a Latino advocacy group, agrees with Bush.

"National anthems are sacred, and the United States' national anthem should be sung in English and not altered in any way," Lisa Navarrete, a La Raza vice president, said in an interview this afternoon.

The president and La Raza part company, however, on the boycott scheduled for Monday. The president is opposed to it and La Raza is helping to organize it and supports the take over of part of the United States by Latinos otherwise known as the Nation of Aztlan. See my previous post and watch the produced video on Aztlan here (a real eye opener).
Meantime, Lisa Navarrete's group is urging her folks to arm themselves because they can't trust the white police. Uh, boy...

URGENT ALERT: From The Revolutionary Council and
Provisional Government of Aztlan

April 26, 2006

Estimada Raza de Aztlan and Beyond,

Our Director of Special Intelligence Services has brought
to our attention disturbing information that threatens the
safety of our families. This information requires that we
prepare a defense strategy to protect our communities.

Due to the recent large demonstrations of our people in
major cities in occupied Anahuac, extremist European
invaders are preparing violent actions against us.
They are expected to use physical violence in the upcoming
marches and rallies planned for May 1, 2006 and we must
take steps to protect our families.

The Director of Special Intelligence Services has reliable
information that anti-Mexican forces in Aztlan and in
certain other area of Anahuac, are preparing to utilize
explosives and snipers to kill our people. We urge our
community to arm themselves to protect our families. We
are also urging our soldiers presently serving In Iraq,
Afghanistan and other foreign lands to do everything
possible to return home and fight for your own. The
situation here is critical.

In addition, all political prisoners shall be in constant
alert and ready for action. Also, youth groups [read: street gangs ]in our
barrios shall call truces and direct their energies against
the racist enemy that has vowed to annihilate our families.

Our Prime Minister is instructing every able bodied male to
arm himself to protect the women and children in his home.
We can not depend on local White law enforcement
authorities because in many cases they will join the
criminal elements and participate in the slaughter of our
people. Make sure you have weapons and plenty of
ammunition in your homes at the ready.

Criminal racist elements have already made death threats
against certain "occupation administrators" and they will
not stop at killing our civilians. We hope that the
massacres of Mexicans that the White criminals have vowed
to undertake are just the rantings of cowardly insane minds
but we must take these threats seriously.

Cuauhtli
Minister of Information
Nation of Aztlan

English translation of Nuestro Himno

By the light of the dawn, do you see arising,

what we proudly hailed at twilight's last fall?

Its stars, its stripes

yesterday streamed

above fierce combat

a gleaming emblem of victory

and the struggle toward liberty.

Throughout the night, they proclaimed:

"We will defend it!"

Tell me! Does its starry beauty still wave

above the land of the free,

the sacred flag?

Its stars, its stripes,

liberty, we are the same.

We are brothers in our anthem.

In fierce combat, a gleaming emblem of victory

and the struggle toward liberty.

My people fight on.

The time has come to break the chains.

Throughout the night they proclaimed, "We will defend it!"

Tell me! Does its starry beauty still wave

above the land of the free,

the sacred flag?

Chanting portion:

It’s time to make a difference the kids, men and the women/Let’s stand for our beliefs, let’s stand for our vision/What about the children los ninos como P-Star

These kids have no parents, cause all of these mean laws.

See this can’t happen, not only about the Latins.

Asians, blacks and whites and all they do is adding

more and more, let’s not start a war

with all these hard workers,

they can’t help where they were born.

Pro Illegals Vow: Cities Will "Grind to a Halt" May 1st

This is why you should BUY BUY BUY May 1st. From Reuters:
"There will be 2 to 3 million people hitting the streets in Los Angeles alone. We're going to close down Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Tucson, Phoenix, Fresno," said Jorge Rodriguez, a union official who helped organize earlier rallies credited with rattling Congress as it debates the issue. "We want full amnesty, full legalization for anybody who is here (illegally)," Rodriguez said. "That is the message that is going to be played out across the country on May 1." They vow that America's major cities will grind to a halt and its economy will stagger as Latinos walk off their jobs and skip school. Teachers' unions in major cities have said children should not be punished for walking out of class.
In New York, leaders of the May 1 Coalition said a growing number of businesses had pledged to close and allow their workers to attend a rally in Manhattan's Union Square.
Large U.S. meat processors, including Cargill Inc., Tyson Foods Inc and Seaboard Corp said they will close plants due to the planned rallies. "This is going to be really big. We're going to have millions of people," said Juan Jose Gutierrez, director of the Latino Movement USA.

BLOWBACK FOR THE MEDIA: Mary McCarthy is a hero? Howzzat? *UPDATE*

Check out Michael Barone's piece today Here.
Mary Mc Carthy is the now former CIA employee who worked in the CIA inspector general's office--an office formed to look into the actions of disreptutable agents among other things--
who now admits to having unauthorized [read leaked] contacts with Dana Priest of the Washington Post among other reporters. It is believed, but disputed by her friends, that Mc Carthy handed over info and/or reports to Priest ostensibly showing that the US was running secret prisons holding Al Qaeda big wigs. Apparently holding Al Qaeda big wigs in prison is bad. That they're secret is apparently bad, too. An oath to secrecy and ten year sentence if you tell secrets notwithstanding, apparently secrecy is a not so dearly held commodity at spook central.
Dana Priest won a Pulitzer Prize for her stories on the secret prisons last week. (See this article here about the general theme running through the Pulitizer selection process here.)
The Wall Street Journal's editorial page weighs in today.

The case of Ms. McCarthy appears to be as egregious as it gets as a matter of partisan politics. She played a prominent role in the Clinton national security apparatus and public records show she gave $2,000 to John Kerry's Presidential campaign and even more to the Democratic Party. Such is her right. But rather than salute and help implement policy after her candidate lost, she apparently sought to damage the Bush Administration by canoodling with the press.
There is little doubt that the Washington Post story on alleged prisons in Europe has done enormous damage--at a minimum, to our ability to secure future cooperation in the war on terror from countries that don't want their assistance to be exposed. Likewise, the New York Times wiretapping exposé may have ruined one of our most effective anti-al Qaeda surveillance programs. Ms. McCarthy denies being the source of these stories. But somebody inside the intelligence community was.
Christopher Hitchens weighs in here:
But now, instead of being rewarded
for her probity, Mary McCarthy has been given the sack. And the
New York
Times
rushes to her aid, with a three-hankie story on April 23, moistly titled "Colleagues Say Fired CIA Analyst Played by the Rules."
This is only strictly true if she confined her disagreement to official channels, as she did when she wrote to
Clinton in 1998. Sadly enough, the same article concedes that McCarthy may have lied and then eventually told the truth about having unauthorized contact with members of the press.

Well! In that case the remedy is clear. A special counsel must be appointed forthwith, to discover whether the CIA has been manipulating the media. All civil servants and all reporters with knowledge must be urged to comply, and to produce their notes or see the inside of a jail. No effort must be spared to discover the leaker. This is, after all, the line sternly proposed by the New York Times and many other media outlets in the matter of the blessed Joseph Wilson and his martyred CIA spouse, Valerie Plame.

Here's Hitchens later on the McCarthy analog to Wilson/Plame:
One can argue that national security is damaged by unauthorized leaks, or one can argue that democracy is enhanced by them. But one cannot argue, in the case of a man who says that his CIA wife did not send him to Niger, that the proof that his wife did send him to Niger must remain a state secret. If one concerned official can brief the press off the record, then so can another.
A campaign that furthermore invokes the most reactionary law against disclosure this century: the Intelligence Identities Protection Act?
It was obvious from the first that the press, in taking Wilson and Plame at their own estimation, was fashioning a rod for its own back. I await the squeals that will follow when this rod is applied, which it will be again and again.

See Hitchens' whole article here.
Here is his reportage of the Niger meetings which Joe Wilson makes light of here and here.
Thomas Josecelyn connects the Mary McCarthy dots here.
Check out this conversation with the WaPo ombudsman here that is quite illuminating.

VOTE BY PHONE DETAILS BELOW

Details here.

Friday Levity: Juggler Man

Hey, it's Friday and the secretary of state is trying to further dilute our votes by allowing vote by phone; so it's time for a little levity. Here's juggler man. Enjoy.

OREGON INTRODUCES VOTE BY PHONE!!!!

Yes, this Anne Martens.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 20, 2006
Contact:
Anne Martens503-986-1502
Bradbury Sues Voting Vendor
SALEM - Secretary of State Bill Bradbury has filed a lawsuit against Election Systems & Software, Inc. (ES&S), for breach of contract for failure to deliver the electronic voting machines that would allow people with disabilities to vote privately and independently.
The Help America Vote Act of 2002 requires, among other things, that all states provide people with disabilities the ability to vote with the same privacy and independence as all other citizens by a deadline of January 1, 2006. The federal government can impose penalties on states that fail to meet this requirement, including withdrawal and withholding of federal funds available for elections improvements.
"I'm disappointed in ES&S," said Bradbury. "They agreed to provide us with voting machines, they didn't follow through on that agreement, and that failure directly punishes people with disabilities."
ES&S submitted the winning bid to a request for proposals issued by the Secretary of State in July 2005. In that bid, ES&S agreed to all of the standard state contract terms, and agreed to provide one million dollars worth of AutoMark touch-screen electronic voting machines by the January 1, 2006 federal deadline.
On January 10, 2006, ES&S informed the Secretary of State that it would not agree to the terms of the contract, and would not deliver the voting machines unless the Secretary changed the terms of the contract. Bradbury refused to alter the contract to meet ES&S's demands, which then led to this lawsuit.
"We will not leave our elections in the hands of companies that do not follow through on their obligations, and we will not be coerced into altering our contracts," said Bradbury.
The Secretary of State has worked closely with the disabilities community in Oregon, convening a regular disabilities subcommittee, and holding a vendor fair in the State Capitol so that people with disabilities could test and offer opinions on available voting technologies. Bradbury is now exploring other options to meet the federal requirement, and assures the disability community that "the ability to vote privately and independently is important to us, and we will do everything we can to make sure that all Oregonians have equal access to the ballot."
As a temporary solution, the Secretary of State has contracted with IVS to provide a phone voting pilot program in ten counties for the May primary election. The ten pilot counties are: Klamath, Linn, Deschutes, Clatsop, Umatilla, Washington, Clackamas, Lane, Coos, and Yamhill. Voters with disabilities outside of the pilot counties may continue to ask their county elections office for assistance.

RUMMY: I WON'T QUIT! **update

The front in the war on terror is Iraq.
Saddam had WMD. Duh.
Saddam's regime had dealings with Niger for yellowcake (or goats). And he had dealings with OTHER countries for yellowcake. See deets on that here.
Money Quote from Butler Report :
499. We conclude that, on the basis of the intelligence assessments at the time, covering both Niger and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the statements on Iraqi attempts to buy uranium from Africa in the Government’s dossier, and by the Prime Minister in the House of Commons, were well-founded. By extension, we conclude also that the statement in President Bush’s State of the Union Address of 28 January 2003 that:

The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africawas well-founded.
Saddam's regime had dealings with, gave financial help to, and trained terrorists, including Al Qaeda. See previous posts here and here and check out Tom Joscelyn's blog here.
Why is Rummy a target? Read here and here. Rummy says late today that he won't quit.
For your reading pleasure all you Joe Wilson fans:

503. From our examination of the intelligence and other material on Iraqi attempts to buy uranium from Africa, we have concluded that:

a. It is accepted by all parties that Iraqi officials visited Niger in 1999.

b. The British Government had intelligence from several different sources indicating that this visit was for the purpose of acquiring uranium. Since uranium constitutes almost three-quarters of Niger’s exports, the intelligence was credible.

c. The evidence was not conclusive that Iraq actually purchased, as opposed to having sought, uranium and the British Government did not claim this.

d. The forged documents were not available to the British Government at the time its assessment was made, and so the fact of the forgery does not undermine it.

ENABLING OREGON SCHOOLS CHIEF BACKS STUDENTS PROTESTING IN FAVOR OF BREAKING THE LAW

Where to start? She never mentions the kids are protesting in FAVOR of BREAKING THE LAW and people who DEFY the law and intrude upon the SOVEREIGNTY of the United States. Here comes the "hard working" immigrant platitudes but nary a word about law abiding hard working citizens. (Here's a great piece by KPAM Talk Host Larry Elder on how Mexico treats illegal aliens. )
April 14, 2006
Superintendent Castillo Issues Statement on Student Immigration Rights Protests
SALEMState Schools Superintendent Susan Castillo released the following statement today:
“This week has seen a number of student marches in support of the rights of immigrants – in Portland, Salem, Woodburn and other Oregon communities. Let me first say that I am proud of the middle school and high school students who are exercising their first amendment right of free speech. I join them in support of the rights of hard-working immigrants and their families in Oregon. America has a long history of civil disobedience under leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Cesar Chavez. While they were strong advocates for change, those leaders also put a great deal of importance on education. I have been assured that school districts are following state law and their local policies by giving unexcused absences to students who skip class to attend these marches and rallies.

"Tolerant" University Officials Part Deux: Call for Investigating Librarian for Recommending Conservative Books**UPDATE

Scott Savage has been vindicated but with a caveat. Read it here.
Scott Savage, who serves as a reference librarian for the [Ohio State]university, suggested four best-selling conservative books for freshman reading in his role as a member of OSU Mansfield’s First Year Reading Experience Committee. The four books he suggested were
The Marketing of Evil by David Kupelian, The Professors by David Horowitz, Eurabia: The Euro-Arab Axis by Bat Ye’or, and It Takes a Family by Senator Rick Santorum. Savage made the recommendations after other committee members had suggested a series of books with a left-wing perspective, by authors such as Jimmy Carter and Maria Shriver. Savage was put under “investigation” by OSU’s Office of Human Resources after three professors filed a complaint of discrimination and harassment against him, saying that the book suggestions made them feel “unsafe.” The complaint came after the OSU Mansfield faculty voted without dissent to file charges against Savage. The faculty later voted to allow the individual professors to file charges.

***Update*** and as long as we're on campus, here's a list of the dumbest questions ever asked by students of conservatives.

Tolerant University Professor Oversees Destruction of Pro Life Display on Campus

Northern Kentucky University professor Sally Jacobsen tears the "Cemetery of Innocents" sign on Wednesday evening. Photo credit: Sarah Loman, The Northerner Online
Michelle Malkin has the run down. But here are a couple of money quotes by the Professor Sally Jacobsen:

"I did, outside of class during the break, invite students to express their freedom-of-speech rights to destroy the display if they wished to," Jacobsen said.Asked whether she participated in pulling up the crosses, the professor said, "I have no comment."
She said she was infuriated by the display, which she saw as intimidating and a "slap in the face" to women who might be making "the agonizing and very private decision to have an abortion.""Any violence perpetrated against that silly display was minor compared to how I felt when I saw it. Some of my students felt the same way, just outraged," Jacobsen said. (but violence against unborn children is okay) PS The display was approved by University officials.

Truants March for Illegal Aliens

In Woodburn.

God Bless the USA

Here's a poll asking if students should be punished for walking
out of class to participate in protests.
The group Washingtonians for Immigration Reform has developed a new video based upon all the recent pro illegal alien protest marches. Watch it here (click on 'new video'). Ann Coulter takes a page from the Anne Martens piece (calling me a racist), turns it on its head, and makes some excellent points in her latest commentary "Brown in the New Black" here. A sampling follows:

This is the only country on Earth that thinks it's not sporting to consider our own interests in choosing immigrants. Try showing up in any other country on the planet, illiterate and penniless, and announcing: "I've seen pictures of your country and it looks great. I think I'd like to live here! Oh, and by the way, would you mind changing all your government and business phone messages, street signs and ballots into my native language? Thanks!" They would laugh you out of the country.

What seems not to have occurred to the "NO HUMAN BEING IS ILLEGAL" crowd is that this is a country, not a public park.

There are more than 6 billion people in the world, many of whom apparently like the idea of living in the wealthiest democracy on Earth. But if the billions of people of the world did live here, it wouldn't be "here" anymore. America is special for a reason that must transcend the right to vote -- or everyone would be trying to immigrate to Iraq right now.

Why You Shouldn't Be So GaGa Over Google

Stories are legion about google's left sided responses to
search terms or including bizarre blogs as "News" sources. Now, I think, conservatives or fair minded people might want to consider a new search engine. (Alta Vista comes to mind.) If you put the word "Failure" into google and hit "I'm Feeling Lucky" you get a picture of the President. Bye, Google,

Today We March, Tomorrow We Vote

JD Hayworth says conservatives want cheap labor, democrats want cheap votes. At Pioneer Square I saw signs reading Jobs for Justice, Che Guevarra, Hecho en Mexico, Don't Separate Us From Our Parents, No to HR 4437, Immigrants Made This Nation and I heard a well received speech about Atzlan! Here's the Plan About Atzlan. Here's my post about it. Here's my post on where you can contact your Senators.
The pro illegal alien crowd is also getting more media savvy and making sure they carried American flags this time around after blowback from their racist marches last time.
Is anyone inconvenienced at all by the Latino walk outs today? Me neither. Some businesses reportedly closed for the lunch hour because their illegal alien work force left for the picket lines. Hello, ICE? You there? May 1st is the planned walk out by Latinos. And once again, what's the background for all of this? Ah, yes, The Plan. Here's Oregon's biggest MEChA organization at the U of O. And here's The Plan.

COMPROMISE SENATE ILLEGAL ALIEN AMNESTY SELL OUT FAILS THIS AM

A carefully crafted compromise that supporters had claimed could win an overwhelming majority received only 38 of the 60 votes necessary to protect it from weakening amendments by opponents.
The Senate sidetracked sweeping immigration legislation Friday, leaving in doubt prospects for passing a bill offering the hope of citizenship to millions of men, women and children living in the United States illegally.
Republicans were united in the 38-60 parliamentary vote but Democrats, who have insisted on no amendments, lost six votes from their members.

ANALYSIS ON THE IMMIGRATION BILL COMING. HERE'S WHAT NUMBERS USA HAS TO SAY ABOUT IT SO FAR.
Here's what Daniel has to say about it. Immigration expert Michelle Malkin weighs in here. Here's the Oregonians for Immigration Reform website. Here's the FAIR website.
From the WaPo:

"Under the agreement, the Senate would allow undocumented workers a path to lawful employment and citizenship if they could prove -- through work stubs, utility bills or other documents -- that they have been in the country for five years. To attain citizenship, those immigrants would have to pay a $2,000 penalty [the price of a coyote], back taxes [with phoney SS#'s?], learn English[let me guess, we get to pay for these, too], undergo a criminal background check [and nothing will happen] and remain working for 11 years [then collect SS?]. Those who have been here a shorter time would have to return to one of 16 designated ports of entry, such as El Paso, Tex., and apply for a new form of temporary work visa for low-skilled and unskilled workers. An additional provision still under consideration would disqualify illegal immigrants who have been in the country less than two years."

You must be joking. Illegal aliens are already supposed to be deported. Why would the government start magically doing it under this bill? Answer: they won't. Result: Amnesty

Foxworth: How Will the Left Respond?

Former Portland Police Chief Mark Kroeker is forced out by the Portland Protester Class with the acquiescence of the politically correct in charge because he allowed his cops to stand tough against an out of control protest demonstration, he's too white, too Christian, and didn't like black people --even though his Dallas, Oregon based missionary family spent Kroeker's childhood in Africa where black African children were his mates. He was sooo bad he went back to take over police operations for a portion of the United Nations. Oy.

So how will the imperial left ruling class respond to Foxworth's alleged sexual impropriety, using his position to gain sexual favor, and alleged threats? Predictions? Anyone?
She's a little nutty and a little slutty (James Carville about Paula Jones).

Not All Protesters are Equal

The Schumachers Fight City Hall for their Rights.
The latest on the City Council meeting with the Schumachers below:

Protester Matt (left, of course) Is that Matt's tushie the Schumachers captured on film on one ho hum Saturday protest? Maybe Matt's will have another party this weekend. There will be a training on "Effective Street Protesting" put on by In Defense of Animals (249-9996) on Sunday, March 12 at Free Geek (1731 SE 10th Avenue, Portland), from 3-6:30pm. There will be specific strategizing around the Schumacher fur demos, and we strongly encourage anyone who has been coming to these demos to come and participate! Refreshments will be served.
As we discussed on the show Friday, the Schumacher fur folks may be booted from their property in Portland, Oregon for showing two posters for a total of an hour and a half in the windows invoking a small part of the same invective the protesters are pouring out on them for the past 21 weeks and and for hours every Saturday. Thanks Commissioner Randy Leonard for showing the signs on your web site at the city of Portland. Here's his blog entry about the same. Because those posters were displayed in the windows of the Schumacher Fur for an hour and a half on one Saturday and because Randy Leonard showed them on his website, the Schumachers could be evicted. Landlord Tom Moyers is mulling it over.
Randy also helpfully provides a link on his blog to this site, discussing the availability of RAT fur coats.

"My nose began twitching. And I have to say, every time I smell a rat and don’t listen to my instinct, I grow to regret it.

I learned from the police bureau that the Schumachers, far from being innocent victims of protests, actually were taunting the protesters with signs such as the picture of this poster that adorned their business's front door."

Those poor, poor protesters. Obviously Randy chooses to tell only one side of the fur story on his city website. I looked and looked and LOOKED but found none of the pictures of the protesters...the naked guy is a real goodie...on his website provided (video too) by the Schumachers.
Read more on the Schumacher testimony below.
Now juxtapose this incident with the incident we talked about Monday and Tuesday on the show (and that the national media have just discovered): The way in which the Oceanside (CA) school district has dealt with the pro illegal alien protesters from their schools. In addition to closing the junior and senior highs in O'side last Thursday and Friday, the school officials banned the display of any flags or patriotic clothing--INCLUDING AMERICAN.
The Mexican students (250) of them walked out, started ripping down AMERICAN flags in Oceanside and the response of the district is 1) close the schools for the other 10,000 students and, 2)stop the DISPLAY of all patriotic clothes AND flags--including AMERICAN.
Clearly the responses of both display a social relativism--nobody's right, nobody's wrong-- that is disconnected from reality. It was the nutty protesters disrobing, vandalising, screeching at customers, and attempting to shut down the fur store that caused the problem. The response from the city of Portland is to blame the victim when the victim gets mad. Now the city is calling for mediation. MEDIATION FOR WHAT? The protesters are breaking the law, the Schumachers are not. The protesters have stated they want the Schumachers out of business; exactly what would make them happy at a mediation session?
In Oceanside the decision is to blame the pro American crowd versus the pro illegal immigration crowd. The pro illegal alien crowd left the schools and did the vandalism. They did it. The American flag did not provoke them. But the answer is to blame everybody. This is the height of ignorance.

Back to the Schumacher Fur incident: The Schumachers were received graciously by the Mayor and council today but didn't say much to them except at the end when the Mayor stressed the city must look out for the 'rights of the protesters (pause, pause) and the rights of the Schumachers." The Schumachers testified they were frightened by the crowds every Saturday and that they have been personally threatened with harm--including murder-- by the protesters. Obviously since heretofore the city has not helped them the Schumachers brought back up. Among those testifying, the Schumachers security guard who looked up the statues and kindly offered up all the laws the anti fur/anti leather/anti...anti...anti... everything protesters had broken including, but not limited to, menacing, vandalism (grafitti), public nuisance, traspassing, and blocking the side walks. Then he offered them the video previously given to the city with footage of all the antics.
Also testifying: the Schumachers accountant who has a stalking order out on one of the protesters which, as he testified today, the police ignored.
I loved the gentleman from Zell Brothers jewelry who testified he'd personally seen the vandalism, stalking of customers up the street, and jumped at by a mask clad nut, and who said words to the effect: I'm a liberal and I believe in rights of free speech, but there has to be an even keel here.
A member of the Atiyeh family, who still have some stores in Portland, was there to back up the Schumachers. They wrote a letter to the editor in the 'o' yesterday. Read it here.

Protesting for "Civil Rights"? How About Lawlessness? Must Read:

Now, many Latino immigrant-rights organizers and their sympathizers seem to be saying that there is some inherent right being expressed when people sneak into the country, thumb their noses at the law and make fools out of those who wait patiently in foreign lands for visas to come to the United States.
Get the rest of Joe Hicks' piece here.
Then there's the piece in the New Yorker suggesting that immigrants are just coming to work and the US was made strong on the backs of immigrants (including the inventors of Google and the I-Pod, intentionally blurring the distinction between legal and illegal. And then suggests all they want to do is pay taxes, live in the US peaceably, and assimilate:

In California, an increasing number of Mexicans get identity cards from their government, which allow them to apply for U.S. bank accounts, credit cards, and mortgages, and to obtain a tax-identification number from the I.R.S. Many neighborhoods in cities like Los Angeles now have a property-owning, tax-paying middle class of illegal aliens.

New research by the Berkeley economist David Card confirms that recent immigrants are assimilating pretty well. Card looked at the experience of immigrant families in the past four decades, and found that, on average, the children of immigrants have higher education and income levels than the children of non-immigrants.
