Jihadi the Yalie

In a most bizarre arms race with Harvard, Yale has now secured a rock star student. This student, however, is a member--indeed is the spokesman--for the Taliban!!!!! The story was in the New York Times Magazine over the weekend, but John Fund of the Wall Street Journal's OpinionJournal.com has his own take on this extraordinary news. John Fund will be on the Victoria Taft Show tonight 7:35pm AM 860 KPAM. Stream at kpam.com.

Something is very wrong at our elite universities. Last week Larry Summers resigned as president of Harvard when it became clear he would lose a no-confidence vote held by politically correct faculty members furious at his efforts to allow ROTC on campus, his opposition to a drive to have Harvard divest itself of corporate investments in Israel, and his efforts to make professors work harder. Now Yale is giving a first-class education to an erstwhile high official in one of the most evil regimes of the latter half of the 20th century--the government that harbored the terrorists who attacked America on Sept. 11, 2001.
"In some ways," Mr. Rahmatullah told the New York Times. "I'm the luckiest person in the world. I could have ended up in Guantanamo Bay. Instead I ended up at Yale." One of the courses he has taken is called Terrorism-Past, Present and Future.

POLITICAL PARTY PROTECTION ACT

"Bradbury's broken pledge of neutrality"

So says the headline in the Bend Bulletin. The revelation of Bradbury's behind the scenes maneuvering should suprise no one. But apparently the folks at the Bend Bulletin are shocked by his moves during the legislative session to protect his democratic party. What they don't know apparently is that Bradbury is the most partisan secretary of state in recent Oregon history and the MOST partisan in the United States.*

As we explained to you on the show (Victoria Taft Show 6-9 pm AM 860 KPAM 6-9pm, stream at KPAM.COM) Friday, because of a new law sponsored by Republican Derrick Kitts and Democrat Mary Nolan with the full blessing (and probably at the behest of) the Secretary of State, ol' fly in the ointment candidate Ben Westlund will have trouble getting some of the signatures he'll need to make the Oregon's ballot for the November governor's election in which he wishes to run as an Independent.

Here's the problem:
Now if a voter takes part in a partisan primary and signs a petition for an independent candidate, the signature doesn't count.

This bill, which by the way Westlund voted against, was created so that the republicans who tried to help Ralph Nader get on the ballot as an Independent to siphon votes from the democrats, couldn't do it again. Bills similar to this have been upheld before the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS). (Citations etc later when I get to KPAM).The secretary of state's (SOS) office worked overtime to disqualify as many signatures as possible on the Nader nominating petitions making up rules as they went along. It was outrageous. So outrageous in fact that the Nader people (Greg Kafoury, Dan Meek et al) took their case to the US Supreme Court where they lost. SCOTUS said the SOS could make up rules and didn't have to write them down (?!) The SOS of course has made it his mission to make it onerous for anyone to put an initiative petition (or nominating petition) on the ballot preferring to have the legislature do his bidding (much more easy to control). So onerous in fact, that if you look at the situation you'll see that the SOS actually vets initiative petitions and their signatures more painstakingly than our ballots. As you've learned on the show the SOS's office doesn't check details of voters--most outrageously whether or not they're citizens. They separate the ballot from the signature envelope a week in advance of the election and many counties (four were queried before the rest destroyed their voting information by law) count the votes of the people who never provided proper identification. There were more than 20,000 votes unchecked in the last election. I'm sure there were more but then as noted above the evidence was destroyed because that's what the rules say.

War is Hell: The Other Side

In all of the stories over the weekend about the violence in Iraq, insurgent bombings, and the loss of two more American troops, did you ever read this? See below:

Also Monday, the Defense Ministry reported Iraqi security forces had killed 35 insurgents and arrested 487 in nationwide raids since Wednesday, when bombers blew up a major Shiite Muslim shrine in Samarra, 60 miles north of Baghdad.

"All of them are Iraqis and affiliated to different terrorist groups and especially al-Qaida in Iraq," Maj. Gen. Jassim Mohamed told The Associated Press. "But we don't have confirmed reports that they were behind Samara bombings."

Also today: Iraq TV says top Zarqawi aide captured

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) — Interior Ministry forces captured a top aide to al-Qaida in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi during a raid in western Iraq, state television reported Monday.

Also today: did you see the story of how Germany fed the US Saddam's war plan for Iraq one month before the invasion? And how, at the end of the story, the NYTimes calls the people who kidnapped the Christian Science Monitor stringer "militants" and not terrorists? What does that make Zarqawi, bin Laden, Zawahiri--militants?

ODOT, DMV, Lorna Youngs: Are You Listening?

Mommy, What's it like to live in a state where state officials actually listen to their constituents and where bureaucrats are listened to by their bosses when they see wrongs being committed? We wouldn't know in Oregon, but Wisconsin is and so is Maryland.
(Read here about how the Minutemen are pushing the agenda in Maryland.)

I've told you about this case. In Tennessee they actually had "tour groups" come from all over the United States filled with illegal aliens with phony papers (rental agreements, envelopes with a stamped, return address, and rental agreements direct from Kinkos. Sound familiar? Ah, yes, I thought so. It is, of course, exactly what the Robleto brothers were doing in Oregon except in Oregon you don't get convicted for it. Find out about the cases here, and here and here. And, of course, Youngs and company want to issue these driver's certificates (see story below). Why? To make it easier for illegal aliens to drive in Oregon. I see why they would want to make sure criminal drivers had passed a test, but, as you can see, if they're willing to phony up papers etc, come into the country illegally, then why would we want them here?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee stopped issuing driving certificates to illegal immigrants Friday after investigators learned out-of-state applicants were using fake papers and bribes to get cards.
One major problem was the variety of documents, such as utility bills or housing leases, that people could use to prove they lived in Tennessee. The department was flooded with certificate requests, and employees were overwhelmed trying to verify the paperwork, he said.
The wallet-size certificates were labeled "not valid for identification" in bold red letters, but federal prosecutors say banks accepted them as legal identification and they could be passed off as official ID at other places.
A dozen people pleaded guilty in recent months after two federal investigations found shuttles from as far away as New Jersey had brought South and Central American immigrants with fake residency papers to get certificates at state licensing centers in Knoxville.

Portland Cell Phone Tax...

The Portland Business Journal is asking you whether a cell phone tax should be imposed in order to fund schools. Please tell them how you feel here.

This generation's Nazis

In Paris a 23 year old Jewish man was laid to rest after being kidnapped, tortured and murdered by a gang of Islamofacists. Last night on the Victoria Taft Show, John Loftus spoke of the shared background of the new wave of Islamofacists and Nazis. Sadly, he appears to be right.

Halimi's family and others in the Jewish community said that had the authorities admitted earlier that the young man had been attacked for being a Jew, he could possibly have been saved.Halimi was found dying, covered with burns and cuts, on Monday February 13. He had been kidnapped three weeks earlier, after a Muslim gang sent a blonde to seduce him. Halimi had agreed to meet with her after meeting in a chat room. Immediately after his abduction his mother went to the police, saying he was kidnapped by anti-Semites. Sources in the community said three Jewish youngsters had managed to escape similar abdications in recent months.

Problems with Portland Public Schools? Nah...

Problems with Portland Public Schools? Of course not says the Portland Tribune today. Let's play a game: if you can detect the oxymoronic thought in these sentences, you get a cookie.

"The district’s options have helped keep Portland’s capture rate — the rate at which Portland parents send their kids to Portland schools — at 85 percent, one of the highest among urban school districts nationwide. • School choice is No. 1 on the list of “Things That Don’t Need Fixing” in Portland Public Schools. "

Otherwise a fine series of articles in the Tribune today.
P.S. The PPS says it's cracking down on the liberal school transfer policy this year. When you consider this, 'capture rate' takes on a whole new meaning, doesn't it?

There's SOMEthing FAMILIAR about you...

The Portland Tribune has a story today about a man the authorities call "Wyatt Perp" because he seems incapable of staying out of trouble. Read the following excerpt and ask yourself the question: how about we just give this dude a job?

Wyatt, 43 years old, an imposing 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, who used to be a welder and a machinist before drinking overtook his life, has been booked into Multnomah County jails 59 times on a total of 175 charges since 1987. Almost every one of the charges is a misdemeanor, ranging from trespassing to resisting arrest to interfering with public transportation. With that kind of history and with his own ideas of how the legal process should work, he clogs up judges’ and prosecutors’ time and resources. He never waives an appearance in court, attending all pretrial meetings — even the ones defendants traditionally do not — and files reams of handwritten motions when his lawyers do not serve him to his satisfaction. Only once has he pleaded guilty. He often defends himself and, more often, fires his court-appointed counsel — he has had at least 34 attorneys represent him in the last 19 years, as many as seven on a single case. On one recent case, in which he represented himself, he was drunk in court while cross-examining the cop who arrested him for drinking in public. No shortage of people who have dealt with him said Wyatt seems obsessed with and addicted to the legal process, the show of a trial and the legal intricacies that can mean the difference between jail and freedom.

BOOYA! MEASURE 37 UPHELD BY OREGON SUPREME COURT. JUDGE JAMES: RESIGN

Another sign of the Apocolypse, perhaps?
The high court SLAMS Judge Mary Merten James' previous incoherent, outcome based ruling. Recalljudgejames.com the effort continues. This judge needs to be recalled, spanked, and sent to her room without any coco. In fact, so thoroughly discredited was Judge James' decision on M37, that it was tantamount to sending her back to school. So maybe she should save us the trouble of recalling her and simply resign in disgrace.

Here's the conclusion of the decision by the Oregon Supreme Court (find the entire ruling here).

In sum, we conclude that (1) plaintiffs' claims are justiciable; (2) Measure 37 does not impede the legislative plenary power; (3) Measure 37 does not violate the equal privileges and immunities guarantee of Article I, section 20, of the Oregon Constitution; (4) Measure 37 does not violate the suspension of laws provision contained in Article I, section 22, of the Oregon Constitution; (5) Measure 37 does not violate separation of powers constraints; (6) Measure 37 does not waive impermissibly sovereign immunity; and (7) Measure 37 does not violate the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.
The trial court's contrary conclusions under the state and federal constitutions were erroneous and must be reversed.
The judgment of the circuit court is reversed, and the case is remanded for entry of judgment in favor of defendants and intervenors.

The cartoon depicts Mohammed and Jesus kissing. Gads.

"The cartoon is a sort of Canadian statement on religious tolerance," said [editor Nick] Ragaz.

"This is not an act of hate," he said. "It's controversial, yes, but it's no attack."

Continued Ragaz: "We will not be pulling the issues from the stands or withdrawing the cartoon from our website.

A Sign of the Apocolypse...

The University of Oregon Student Newspaper Backs Protests by Oregonians for Immigration Reform at the Carousel of Crime over the Weekend.

Mexican ID can’t ensure alien safety, U.S. security
By Emerald editorial board
February 15, 2006
Members of Oregonians For Immigration Reform gathered Saturday on campus at the High School Equivalency Program building to protest illegal immigration. Their target: the Mexican consulate issuing matricula consulars — identification cards given to Mexican citizens who can provide a birth certificate, photo ID and proof of residency. The cards allow Mexicans, including illegal immigrants, to obtain driver’s licenses and open bank accounts in the United States.
The protest drew a group of counter-protesters, and Department of Public Safety officers were on hand to keep the peace.
At $27 each, the cards may be cheaper than passports for Mexican travelers. But the OFIR
protesters and their sympathizers have a point: They assert that because legal immigrants from Mexico and other countries obtain Green Cards or other documents, only illegal immigrants need such cards.

Here's the rest of the editorial.

Al Gore for Sale**UPDATE

Vice President Dick Cheney ACCIDENTALLY wounded his friend, it's true. Al Gore INTENTIONALLY seeks to wound his country to salve his own bruised ego. He should be ashamed. What's worse?
Which Arabs were rounded up indiscriminantly and thrown into conditions of squalor. Where are these places? Who are these people to whom the former Vice President refers before a paid speech (paid in part by the bin Laden family) in front of Saudis? No, Al Gore has never shot anybody, but he's purposely wounding the reputation of the United States by spreading falsehoods to some people who have funded the very people who attacked us fueling even more hatred. Howard Dean, Hillary, Teddy, Dick Durbin are all on the grassy knoll continuing their steady aim on America's reputation in the middle east.

Carousel of Crime and the Crime Busters

An Operation ID signer at the Carousel of Crime.

The Register Guard covers the story here.
Here are some excerpts here:

"I don't think it's right for people to come here and step in front of line," said Daniel Miglavs of Sherwood[pictured right], a spokesman for Oregonians for Immigration Reform. [far right is Michael Armstrong of citizencaucus.com
Angel Lopez, legal adviser for the Mexican consular, said he felt the protesters were interfering with the legitimate business affairs of a foreign government. He said the event deserved tighter security by federal marshals to ensure order.
Say WHAT?

Anti-immigration [?!] activists rallied Saturday in Eugene to oppose providing state social services to noncitizens and to criticize the Mexican consulate for issuing identification cards to immigrants.

Spanish-speaking representatives from several state agencies joined Mexican officials to offer information about health care, food stamps, wage and hour provisions and other state services.

"Several of the protesters arrived from around the state in sport utility vehicles and trucks adorned with Republican candidate bumper stickers." Insert scary sound effects here.

Loony 'Toons: See entry below

Operation ID:Day 15

Calls are out to the republican governor's candidates: Where are their Operation ID letters? They all are calling for cracking down on the illegal immigration problem in Oregon. Where are they? I've got hundreds upon hundreds of letters: their's aren't in my pile! I'm not the only one paying attention: check out rinowatch.

Loony 'Toons: Part Trois

So how did this start? Get a backgrounder here. See some of the cartoons below and all of them here. See a movie about the phony scandal here. The most offensive ones are linked: they're not here.
Now don't be misled because there are FAKE cartoons put out by Danish Imams here. Best reasons for not publishing from listeners tonight: Do Unto Others, the President asked us not to fan the flames, keep our soldiers safer by not doing it. So I'm publishing some of the least offensive .
But even the least offensive are supposedly very offensive to some.
Interestingly, these cartoons weren't offensive enough to the cleric who wanted to make this into an international incident so he found/photo shopped more images and shopped those around the globe till he pissed someone --millions--off. Who's being anti Islam now?

King Funeral Turns Political Rally

It wasn't a funeral it was a political rally.

Former President Jimmy Carter later swung at Bush as
well, not once but twice. As he talked about the Kings, he said: "It was
difficult for them then personally with the civil liberties of both husband and
wife violated as they became the target of secret government wiretaps." The
crowd cheered as Bush, under fire for a secret wiretapping program he ordered
after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, again smiled weakly. Later,
Carter said Hurricane Katrina showed that all are not yet equal in America.
"This commerative cermony this morning, this afternoon, is not only to
acknowledge the great contributions of Coretta and Martin, but to remind us that
the struggle for equal rights is not over. We only have to recall the color of
the faces of those in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi," Carter said, the rest
of his sentence drowned out by loud applause. "Those who were most devastated by
[Hurricane] Katrina know that there are not yet equal opportunities for all
Americans. It is our responsibility to continue their
crusade."

OPERATION ID: Day 14 Statewide has Begun!

Welcome Bill Meyer, KMED, Medford to the OPERATION ID statewide effort!

Why don't Oregon officials check to see if you're a citizen before you vote, receive benefits, receive an Oregon Driver's License? Seems simple enough to require it. But they don't and, worse, they don't check what documents they DO get.

Operation ID calls our Governor and Secretary of State to account for this abject failure. We call on them to require people signing up for the above items to prove they're citizens.

Go here to get a copy of the letter. Print it. Sign it. Send it. We'll present these letters to the Governor and Secretary of State and demand they change the way we do business in the state of Oregon.

Go to KPAM.COM here and get your letter. Print it. Sign it. Send it. Here: Victoria Taft, Operation ID, KPAM AM 860, 888 SW 5th Ave., Suite 790, Portland, Oregon 97204

Even though I couldn't get City Commissioners Randy Leonard and Sam Adams (who crashed my show last night) to sign their Operation ID letters, State Representative Kim Thatcher HAS signed it. Kudos to her. Where are all our governor's candidates' letters? Hmmmm....

Go to KPAM.COM, click on Victoria's picture, download the citizen letter, print it, sign it, and send it back snail mail.
