OPERATION ID: DAY 9 CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?

Don't look now, Bill, here they come!

Hamas. They still want to kill Jews and us.

Read the platform of Hamas here by the "Political" director of this terrorist group.
Money Quote:

Our message to the US and EU governments is this: your attempt to force us to give up our principles or our struggle is in vain. Our people who gave thousands of martyrs, the millions of refugees who have waited for nearly 60 years to return home and our 9,000 political and war prisoners in Israeli jails have not made those sacrifices in order to settle for close to nothing.
Hamas has been elected mainly because of its immovable faith in the inevitability of victory; and Hamas is immune to bribery, intimidation and blackmail. While we are keen on having friendly relations with all nations we shall not seek friendships at the expense of our legitimate rights. We have seen how other nations, including the peoples of Vietnam and South Africa, persisted in their struggle until their quest for freedom and justice was accomplished. We are no different, our cause is no less worthy, our determination is no less profound and our patience is no less abundant.

Here's a piece by Richard Cohen on Hamas's victory. And here HIS money quote:
In due course we will be told that what Hamas has been insisting on for years -- the utter destruction of Israel -- is not really a serious goal. Hamas should not be taken literally and, anyway, it will be forced to moderate both its platform and its policies by the reality of governing. When, for instance, it repeats the words of its charter -- ``The solution of the problem (Israel) will only take place by holy war" -- we will be assured that it is only throwing red meat to what in America is called ``the base.'' As for its truculent anti-Semitism -- not to be confused in this case with anti-Zionism -- it, too, will be dismissed as without consequence. Hamas will have to deal with reality -- and Israel, in the region, is the mightiest reality of them all. Yasser Arafat came to understand that.

Here's a thoughtful (as usual) piece from Christopher Hitchens on the Hamas election. Here's something to think about for those who want to blame the president for global warming and all terrorism.
It is shallow and short-term, therefore, to write up the election result as a bitter fruit for the Bush administration's democracy initiative. (What was the alternative? No elections? Elections but without Hamas participation? And do not forget that the combined vote for the four secular and leftist and independent lists, at a time of extreme pressure to conform to either Fatah or Hamas candidates, was over 112,000 ballots, or about a tenth of the total.)

OPERATION ID: Day 8

Can you hear me now?
That's a 10' conference table at KPAM. It's covered, multiple letters deep, with your letters for Operation ID. Keep 'em coming!

Dear Governor Kulongoski and Secretary of State Bradbury,
I’d like you to check if persons applying for state benefits, driver’s licenses, and voting privileges are American citizens and legal residents of Oregon. In short, you should make people requesting these benefits to PROVE IT.
It seems like such a reasonable request, yet, it doesn’t this doesn’t happen to my satisfaction in the state of Oregon.
· Mr. Bradbury has said recently that asking for proof of citizenship would deter voter participation. He’s absolutely right. It would deter people who are not legal citizens from voting. We shouldn’t have to point out to you that this is how it should be.
· At a time when the Department of Human Services is $172 million in the hole five months into their current fiscal year budget, giving away benefits to people who are non citizens makes no sense and is an insult to taxpayers who expect their dollars to go to needy Oregon citizens!
· In the case of Oregon driver’s licenses, we’ve seen the mockery that is the system of identification at the DMV in the recent Hillsboro case in which 80,000 people, most illegal aliens, with PHONY ID received driver’s licenses.
Sirs, let’s be clear here: this isn’t about anti immigration, as some in the media and in activist groups would frame it; this is about being opposed to giving benefits and services to ILLEGAL immigrants. ILLEGAL.
In a post 9/11 world, in a time at which government officials tell us important state programs go wanting for tax dollars, we demand you immediately order state government workers to require people who want to fully participate in these activities PROVE they’re citizens.
It’s outrageous that we even have to ask.

John Walker Lindh: Dupe?

The of father of John Walker Lindh "The American Taliban" wants his son to be given sympathy by way of a commutation of his sentence for committing acts of terror against the US on behalf of his hero, Usama bin Laden. Read this by Robert Young Pelton and tell me if Lindh should be given one ounce of sympathy.
After chronicling several times in which Lindh is given an opportunity to fess up and get the heck out of Afghanistan, the tell tale opportunity is when Lindh is face to face with CIA interrogator, Mike Spann, and knows of an impending attack by armed jihadis. Lindh, once again, sells out his country.

Spann and Tyson play a clumsy game of “good cop, bad cop”. But one thing is clear; they offer Lindh a way out. Lindh is alone with two of his fellow countrymen with full knowledge of the violence that is about to happen. He says nothing. If there was ever one moment that will define one man and damn another this was it. Lindh is put back into the lineup and Mike Spann will die in the next few minutes as Uzbeks rush up from the basement, yelling Allahhuakbar detonate hidden grenades. The fighting begins. Lindh has once again has been given a clear choice between right and wrong and once again. He makes that clear choice again.

OPERATION ID: DAY 7

What secretary of state Bill Bradbury doesn't want you to see: the state of the voter rolls. He doesn't want to know if those on his list are citizens. That's why he doesn't check. He calls racist those who demand the voter rolls to be checked to make sure all who use the franchise are legal citizens.
OPERATION ID is a letter writing campaign designed to bring pressure on Bradbury and the Governor to require those who receive state benefits, driver's licenses and voter privileges be US citizens. Get the letter here. Find more info here.
Bradbury has fought those efforts in the past. Can he honestly ignore you now?
After finding out Washington State's voter rolls included 36,000 double registered voters and 11,500 dead people, how can Bradbury honestly maintain the state of our voter rolls are cleaner? How would he know? He doesn't check!
Get your copy of the letter, print it, sign it and send it back. We need your support! Thanks to rinowatch for the picture. It's priceless.

having blogger problems today so I hope this makes it out...unbelieveable stuff going on.

SCANDAL! Not. NSA eavesdropping. Anything UNREASONABLE about that?

I heard a talk show host on a liberal station the other day talk about the president's lack of constitutional authority to conduct the NSA wiretaps of those connected with Al Qaeda or whose deets were found in the personal effects of a bad guy.
This host said they were reading from the fourth amendment. And they elucidated thusly, "t
he right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause
."
The talk host then build their entire case upon this premise.

Notice anything amiss?
Here's the way the fourt amendment
REALLY reads:
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against
unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
Makes a bit of a difference, doesn't it? Once again I ask you: Is there anything UNREASONABLE about the searching (wiretapping) of people with connections to our enemy in time of war?
Here's something else to chew on. When the pinheads tell you that warrantless searches are unprecendented and unconstitutional on their face, read them this list from National Review writer and former federal prosecutor,
Andrew McCarthy (whom I trying mightily to get on the show),

    1. Detain American citizens for investigative purposes without a warrant; Arrest American citizens, based on probable cause, without a warrant; Conduct a warrantless search of the person of an American citizen who has been detained, with or without a warrant;
    2. Conduct a warrantless search of the home of an American citizen in order to secure the premises while a warrant is being obtained;
    3. Conduct a warrantless search of, and seize, items belonging to American citizens that are displayed in plain view and that are obviously criminal or dangerous in nature;
    4. Conduct a warrantless search of anything belonging to an American citizen under exigent circumstances if considerations of public safety make obtaining a warrant impractical;
    5. Conduct a warrantless search of an American citizen's home and belongings if another person, who has apparent authority over the premises, consents;
    6. Conduct a warrantless search of an American citizen's car anytime there is probable cause to believe it contains contraband or any evidence of a crime;
    7. Conduct a warrantless search of any closed container inside the car of an American citizen if there is probable cause to search the car — regardless of whether there is probable cause to search the container itself;
    8. Conduct a warrantless search of any property apparently abandoned by an American citizen;
    9. Conduct a warrantless search of any property of an American citizen that has lawfully been seized in order to create an inventory and protect police from potential hazards or civil claims;
    10. Conduct a warrantless search — including a strip search — at the border of any American citizen entering or leaving the United States;
    11. Conduct a warrantless search at the border of the baggage and other property of any American citizen entering or leaving the United States;
    12. Conduct a warrantless search of any American citizen seeking to enter a public building;
    13. Conduct a warrantless search of random Americans at police checkpoints established for public-safety purposes (such as to detect and discourage drunk driving);
    14. Conduct warrantless monitoring of common areas frequented by American citizens;
    15. Conduct warrantless searches of American citizens and their vessels on the high seas;
    16. Conduct warrantless monitoring of any telephone call or conversation of an American citizen as long as one participant in the conversation has consented to the monitoring;
    17. Conduct warrantless searches of junkyards maintained by American citizens;
    18. Conduct warrantless searches of docks maintained by American citizens;
    19. Conduct warrantless searches of bars or nightclubs owned by American citizens to police underage drinking;
    20. Conduct warrantless searches of auto-repair shops operated by American citizens;
    21. Conduct warrantless searches of the books of American gem dealers in order to discourage traffic in stolen goods;
    22. Conduct warrantless drug screening of American citizens working in government, emergency services, the transportation industry, and nuclear plants;
    23. Conduct warrantless drug screening of American citizens who are school officials;
    24. Conduct warrantless drug screening of American citizens who are school students;
    25. Conduct warrantless searches of American citizens who are on bail, probation or parole.

OPERATION ID: DAY 5

READ THIS BOOK.
Go to KPAM.COM, Victoria's Page, click on "citizen" letter, print, sign, send it back to me snail mail to convince our "leaders" to require people who sign up to vote, receive benefits, and driver's licenses to produce ID that PROVES they're a citizen. It's the least they can do to protect us.

WA SMOKING BAN: Unintended Consequences, Part 1

Fuggedabout the tavern, pool, bar owners whose businesses have suffered mightily due to the smoking ban in the state of Washington brought to you by the 'we hate smokers' and 'we know better than you crowd.' Now, according to the Seattle Weekly, they're worried about the impact of a smoking ban at the HOMELESS SHELTERS. Well at least they're upset on behalf of one group of people whose rights have been trampled by this ridiculous law. But, check it out, the best piece of info in this story is the revelation that homeless shelters, well, at least this one, have a "specially constructed smoking room" that homeless people cannot now use to smoke.

When Washington's smoking ban went into effect last month, the worry in the social services community was that police might use it to hassle homeless people in Seattle for violating the 25-foot rule. As it turns out, it wasn't the police they needed to be concerned about. Public Health– Seattle & King County is now going after the state's largest homeless shelter for not stopping clients from smoking inside a specially constructed smoking room.

Go Bush Go! Fidel Castro is "punk'd!"

The US Mission in Havana, Cuba has been used as a big electronic sign of late urging Cubans to get rid of their communist dictator and listen to the words of Abraham Lincoln. While the media are most afraid that Fidel Castro will get cranky (here), the rest of the free world is cheering on chutzpah of the US! The full rundown is here at Gateway Pundit.
Before Castro could hold one of his marathon talks, he'd been punked!

The sign was activated as Castro began speaking in front of the building Tuesday morning, relaying global news and quotes including Abraham Lincoln's: "No man is good enough to govern another man without that other's consent."

Castro glanced up at the building, saying, "They already turned on the little sign -- the cockroaches are brave," before starting his speech.

UPDATE: Supporting the Troops, This Columnist says Why Bother?

Joel Stein of the LA Times wrote an article here on his decision NOT to support the troops. Talk show host, attorney, former Reagan era justice department lawyer, Hugh Hewitt interviewed ol' Joel. Read some of it below. Read the rest here.
Read his explanation, uh, here.

JS: Well, I think I said it clear in the column, too. I don't have a...if you are for the war in Iraq, I think obviously, then you should support the troops. My problem is the people who are against the war and support the troops anyway, I think that's kind of an excuse. I think that's a way of making you feel better about your guilt, and I think that's kind of a lazy form of pacifism.

HH: Did you support the troops when they delivered, say, tsunami relief off of aircraft carriers and via supply ships?

JS: Yeah, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply in the column that I don't think we should have a military.

HH: I'm just wondering where you draw the line. So that mission is okay in your view?

JS: Yeah, I'm just simply saying that as a person whose against the Iraq war, I think all these I support the troop statements, I support the troops magnets, are a little hy

pocritical.

OPERATION ID: DAY 4

READ THIS BOOK:

Why don't Oregon officials check to see if you're a citizen before you vote, receive benefits, receive an Oregon Driver's License? Seems simple enough to require it. But they don't and,worse, they don't check what documents they DO get.

Operation ID calls our Governor and Secretary of State to account for this abject failure. We call on them to require people signing up for the above items to prove they're citizens.

Go here to get a copy of the letter. Print it. Sign it. Send it back to me. We'll present these letters to the Governor and Secretary of State and demand they change the way we do business in the state of Oregon.

Daniel is right has a story about another oregon driver's license being misused by illegal aliens. Great read!
Here's today's shocking statistic on illegal
immigration:

SSI, MEDICAID, WELFARE PAYMENTS
3.3%
the number of children of illegal aliens and illegal aliens who received these payments in 1982
10.9% the number in 1992
25%
the number in 2003

Carousel of Crime: A Smash Hit with Illegal Aliens

Here's Daniel of Daniel is Right Blog whose personal crusade it is to get rid of Oregon spending our hard earned tax dollars on person who are here illegal.
Here's what Daniel had to say about his new buddy:

The person on the right is me, the person on the left is Benjamin*. That thing in Benjamin's hand? A Matricula Consular Card, a sham ID that is accepted by the Oregon DMV so that illegal aliens can get drivers licenses.

Why does this matter? Because the drivers license is the number one form of ID we use and we are outsourcing it's integrity and security to Mexico. We can't verify the authenticity of the Matricula card, we simply take it at face value regardless how stingent or lax the standard is to get one of these cards.

Now I know what your thinking: Daniel, why are you harrassing those poor undocumented immigrants, they just come here to do jobs that American's won't do. I know, it's with those jobs that they can afford cars like this one above.

Great job, Daniel. Putting the lie to the rip off that is done once a month to sign up illegal aliens for state services. Doesn't make a heckuva lot of sense, does it.

DAY THREE: OPERATION ID

JD HAYWORTH ON THE SHOW TONIGHT.
Get his book here.

We should require people to show citizenship identification to vote in the state of Oregon. Right now they don't have to and our leaders don't want them to.

We should require people to show citizenship ID to get a driver's license in Oregon. Right now the ID value of the Oregon driver's license is useless, meaningless, laughable.

We should require people to show citizenship ID to receive services and benefits in the state of Oregon.

Wow, the feds say they'll look for law breaking illegal immigrants (they mean illegal activities they do AFTER they break our laws to come here).

WRITE YOUR LETTER TO OUR GOVERNOR AND SECRETARY OF STATE HERE.
It's a pdf file; give it a second to come up. If you can't get it there, check out my previous post (with letter) here.

CAROUSEL OF CRIME TODAY 9AM

Check out my previous post on details here.

Friday, January 20, 2006

DAY TWO: OPERATION ID

It seems odd that officials of this state DO NOT require you to prove citizenship to vote, receive state benefits, or receive a driver's license. It doesn't seem just odd, it seems downright ridiculous in a post 9/11 world, and at a time when the government consistently pleads poverty. Here's a partial solution: stop giving away free stuff to people who don't deserve it (like tomorrow at the Carousel of Crime).
We're calling on the Governor and Secretary of State to do their jobs and insist on ID. That's why we're calling this OPERATION ID. Please go to this website, print the letter, sign it and add your address (don't worry we won't do anything with it; ironically it's just for authenticity's sake), and send it back to ME. We will walk those into the state capitol as a pre announced time. Will you be a part of OPERATION ID?

Please go here, download this letter and then send it to:
Victoria Taft, OPERATION ID, KPAM Radio, 888 SW Fifth Avenue, Suite 790, Portland, Oregon 97204.

or print this page, sign and return to address above

TOM JOSCELYN on USAMA'S TAPE

From Thomas Joscelyn of the Weekly Standard

UPDATE: Although I think the Times's reporting is correct and it is "not immediately clear when the tape was made," it was made fairly recently. Bin Laden discusses the allegation that President Bush threatened to bomb Al Jazeera. That allegation itself was tossed around only fairly recently in the press. We'll say - roughly - the end of 2005 into this month. So, the tape makes reference to fairly recent events.UPDATE #2: According to MEMRI, bin Laden did not offer a truce. He merely offered, in MEMRI's words, "to accept and uphold a long-term truce [if America offers it to him]." This cuts against most of the reporting, which currently holds that bin Laden "offered a truce." (Hat tip: Kathryn Jean Lopez @ The Corner.)UPDATE #3: John Hinderaker at Power Line offers his own analysis, which I agree with, on the meaning behind the tape. John writes, "It doesn't take a genius to see that things are going very badly for bin Laden and al Qaeda. Where does he turn for hope? To American opinion polls--which, of course, he reads very selectively. ..."UPDATE #4: I knew that the allegation that President Bush threatened to bomb Al Jazeera was first made in late 2005, but MSNBC gives a more precise dating: "In the tape, bin Laden refers to an alleged comment by President Bush about bombing the Qatar headquarters of Al-Jazeera, which was first reported in the British press on Nov. 22." So, that would fix the earliest possible date at which the tape could have been made at Nov. 22-23.But MSNBC also adds, "Arab television station Al Jazeera, which aired the tape, said it was dated to the Muslim lunar month which corresponds to January. The station said earlier the tape dated from December."UPDATE #5: Steven Emerson says that bin Laden's bluster "is still bluster."

OPERATION ID Be a Part of it!

I'M A U S CITIZEN LIVING IN OREGON AND I CAN PROVE IT

here is where you can get your OPERATION ID letter to send back to me and I will hand deliver it to Governor Kulongoski and Secretary of State Bill Bradbury.

"Innocent" Civilians Killed in Pakistan: Take Three

Sounds like the CIA intelligence folks have improved since 9/11
Those "innocent" civilians included this one bad dude. The Weekly Standard calls him the Al Qaeda mad scientist.

From Tiger Hawk Blog:

The final results of from the airstrike in the Pakistani border town of Damadola are now known. In addition to Abu Khabab al-Masri, who was al-Qaeda’s chief bomb maker, head of the WMD program, and former terror camp commander, two other al-Qaeda commanders were killed in the strike. ABC News confirms that Khalid Habib [or Khaled al-Harbi] and Abdul Rehman al Magrabi perished in the attack.

Khaled al-Harbi is al-Qaeda’s operational commander in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Al-Harbi splits duty in Afghanistan with Abd al Hadi Al Iraqi, and both are considered “two of [al-Qaeda’s] most able commanders”.

Abdul Rehman al Magrabi, a Moroccan, is thought to be al-Qaeda’s commander in Pakistan, and is said to have replaced Abu Hamza Rabia, who was killed in Pakistan on December 1, 2005.

According to a trusted source, the DNA tests are complete and the two other other “foreigners” killed are said to be al-Qaeda bodyguards. Ayman al-Zawahiri appears to have slipped the net.

Public Expression of Religion Act

Rees Lloyd is a former ACLU attorney, former civil rights attorney, former attorney for Caesar Chavez and even HE has had it with the ACLU! The ACLU takes advantage of the attorneys fees act passed in 1977 pertaining to civil rights cases. This was a pay day for the "free" ACLU, whose attorneys work for FREE or whose staff attorneys are paid by donations and some of the attorneys fees. But because of that law, the plaintiff is given attorneys fees---when there are NO fees.
Portland's Boy Scout case? The ACLU picked off $108,000 from the taxpayers for their fees. The ATTORNEYS WORKED FOR FREE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!
Find out about the Public Expression of Religion Act. Maybe if the ACLU'S profit motive was taken out of these cockamamie Cross on public/private/monument lands they'd get out of the business of trying to wipe out all religious references (even historical references) on public lands.

Carousel of Crime Jan 21st in Cornelius

I'm glad the expenditure of public funds to support people who have come to the United States illegally is the big issue it is now. The problem I'm having with the coverage is that the "O" and other papers are purposely confusing this outrage with being anti immigrant period. They will continue to publish this fiction if we let them off the hook. I have no problem with legal immigration so long as we make sure we aren't letting in bad guys, but I believe illegal immigration is a drain on our resources. California is now floating ANOTHER tobacco tax increase ostensibly to 'keep open' California emergency rooms, missing the obvious fix--send illegal immigrants to the health centers etc already set up to accommodate these folks. Then, when their sniffles are all fixed, boot 'em out.

Who's More Rude: Tri Met Bus Drivers or Bicyclists?

Loved the story in today's Oregonian about the bike v bus driver fisticuffs story. I'm not happy that the bicyclist was nearly hit; and I'm sad that the driver didn't live long enough (a boating accident) to litigate this; I AM delighted, however, that the rudeness of these two groups of people is on the front page of the paper for all the world to see. If you're solely reliant upon the bus company to get you where you need to go and you're constantly subjected to some of their antics you'll know what I mean. If you have to contend with "activist" bikers you'll know these guys will make a driver's life miserable (they love to hold up traffic; refusing to pull over even though several cars are slowed by their riding in the traffic lane).

These incidents happened to a loved one of mine who takes the bus EVERY DAY.

  • Bus driver ignores her and drives on
  • Bus driver fails to stop for her and then flips her off
  • Bus driver refuses to help explain to a mentally retarded passenger where he should go to get catch his correct bus
  • Bus driver stops the bus (not at a stop) gets off, goes into a subway to get her water bottle filled up; standing in a line five people deep, all the while making her passengers wait.
  • Same bus driver STOPS at GREEN lights--three in a row.

The ACLU Files a Lawsuit Against the NSA...

Nice logo, ACLU, how much did this cost? Will taxpayers pick up the tab for this too?

I wonder how much money the ACLU will make from this charade? They still get their fees no matter how specious the claim. Don't give me that "they work for free" nonsense. They did, however, recently turn down some funding from their regular patrons. Why? The reason may surprise you. This is a must read. PS. Listen to the show Wednesday night at 8:05 to get the low down on that part of the ACLU's business dealings.
Why would the ACLU of all groups not want the US to connect the dots in the war on terror?
Here's something you may wish to know about the "scandal" at the NSA:
As is typical of such wartime operations, the NSA program was classified at the highest level of secret information. It was, nevertheless, completely different from the kind of rogue intelligence operations of which the Nixon era is emblematic (though by no means the only case). The Bush administration internally vetted the program, including at the Justice Department, to confirm its legal footing. It reviewed (and continues to review) the program every 45 days. It briefed the bipartisan leadership of Congress (including the intelligence committees) at least a dozen times. It informed the chief judge of the federal Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC), the tribunal that oversees domestic national-security wiretapping. And it modified the program in mid-2004 in reaction to concerns raised by the chief judge, national-security officials, and government lawyers.Far from being a pretextual use of war powers to spy on political opponents and policy dissenters, the NSA program has been dedicated to national security. More to the point, it has saved lives, helping break up at least one al-Qaeda conspiracy to attack New York City and Washington, D.C., in connection with which a plotter named Iyman Faris was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment.

What Judge Alito Should Say...

Where do I go to get my reputation back?
Well, was the man who would be supreme court justice a racist because he belonged to a club years ago in which one member wrote an opinion piece that was deemed racist? What if you belong to a club in 2006 that still discriminates against women? I think you should have the ability to associate with whomever you wish, but it is a bit tough to take when the person about whom I refer is the man who spent the better part of last week calling Alito a racist because a former member of the club wanted to keep out minorities.
Why does Teddy Kennedy still belong to a club that doesn't allow women?

SCOTUS says Physician Assisted Suicide is OK

The group NOT DEAD YET a handicapped rights group doesn't like the decision. They understandably believe this will lead to euthanasia and, of course, they're right. Sooner or later it will happen.

Here's what the AP believes is the money quote from the 6-3 decision.

Justices, on a 6-3 vote, said that federal authority to regulate doctors does not override the 1997 Oregon law used to end the lives of more than 200 seriously ill people. New Chief Justice John Roberts backed the Bush administration, dissenting for the first time.
The administration improperly tried to use a drug law to prosecute Oregon doctors who prescribe overdoses, the court majority said.
''Congress did not have this far-reaching intent to alter the federal-state balance,'' Justice
Anthony M. Kennedy wrote for himself, retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Justices John Paul Stevens, David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Stephen Breyer.

I haven't read the entire 62 page decision here yet but wonder if the decision that further denigrates human life has buttressed the states' rights argument that is the hallmark of the conservative agenda. If so, it's a high price to pay.

Here's an Oregon AP story on the left's happiness that not-gone-yet Justice Sandra Day O'Connor voted with the majority.

"We are very pleased and very relieved. This puts to rest the legality of the Oregon Death with Dignity Act," said Robert Kenneth of Portland, a spokesman for a group known as Death with Dignity.
"I couldn't be happier. I am a little surprised given the nature of the court. I knew we could rely on Sandra Day O'Connor to give balance to this issue. This is a remarkable ruling as she steps down and retires," Kenneth said.

Justice Antonin Scalia wrote for the dissenters which included Clarence Thomas and Chief Justice John Roberts:

The question before us is not whether Congress can do this, or even whether Congress should do this; but simply whether Congress has done this in the CSA [controlled substance act]. I think there is no doubt that it has. If the term legitimate medical purpose has any meaning, it surely excludes the prescription of drugs to produce death.

SEEING IS DECEIVING: NYT Fakes Photo

Is that a hellfire or are you just glad to see me?

Blogger shout out to The American Thinker and Michelle Malkin blogs.

The only problem is that the long cylindrical item with a conical tip pictured with the boy and the man is not a missile at all. It is an old artillery shell. Not something that would have been fired from a Predator. Indeed, something that must have been found elsewhere and posed with the ruins and the little boy as a means at pulling of the heartstrings of the gullible readers of the New York Times.

Florida Teens Beat Up Homeless Men. Even More Shocking: No One Has Alleged Hate Crimes.

Yet.
Once upon a time, some moronic teens thought it would be sporting to take baseball bats and beat homeless people. Here's one of the morons now.

The two watched as Brian Hooks and Thomas Daugherty walked up to Norris
Gaynor on Thursday morning, baseball bats in hand, according to Fort Lauderdale
police. Moments later, the witnesses saw Daugherty smash his bat into Gaynor's
chest and head, the report says, leaving him unconscious and dying on the bench
he chose as his bed.

The Mother's Milk of Politics George Galloway Style

The man who has made it his personal mission to defame the Bush administration and the war to take out Saddam Hussein, and who, of course, received payoffs from the oil for food program (nice Spanish estate, George), has reached a new low. See here. He's on some reality tv show licking milk from a bowl. No idea why, but then the guy never really made much sense anyway.
