"Tolerant" University Officials Part Deux: Call for Investigating Librarian for Recommending Conservative Books**UPDATE

Scott Savage has been vindicated but with a caveat. Read it here.
Scott Savage, who serves as a reference librarian for the [Ohio State]university, suggested four best-selling conservative books for freshman reading in his role as a member of OSU Mansfield’s First Year Reading Experience Committee. The four books he suggested were
The Marketing of Evil by David Kupelian, The Professors by David Horowitz, Eurabia: The Euro-Arab Axis by Bat Ye’or, and It Takes a Family by Senator Rick Santorum. Savage made the recommendations after other committee members had suggested a series of books with a left-wing perspective, by authors such as Jimmy Carter and Maria Shriver. Savage was put under “investigation” by OSU’s Office of Human Resources after three professors filed a complaint of discrimination and harassment against him, saying that the book suggestions made them feel “unsafe.” The complaint came after the OSU Mansfield faculty voted without dissent to file charges against Savage. The faculty later voted to allow the individual professors to file charges.

***Update*** and as long as we're on campus, here's a list of the dumbest questions ever asked by students of conservatives.

Well there you have it thought police. It is now illegal to think or read books not approved by the left because it would make them feel unsafe.

The operative word here is 'feel'.

First the universities next the outside world.

Remember the world must be made safe for liberials (leftists) report a conservative.

"DEFUND" all public schools, including Universitys. I'm glad to see that private, and online colleges are growing. AMERICAN COMMUNISM needs to be torn down brick by brick.

Support the troops. Support the generals. Rumsfeld must resign.

Kodiak said...

Generals are political appointments and usually reflects the Philosophy of the President making the appointment. The retired Generals calling for Rumsfeld to resign are clinton appointees.

Rumsfeld offered his resignation twice both times the President refused to accept it.

The President once again has given Rumsfeld his full support. Therefore I conculde that a thrid attempt would not be accepted.

To Loyalingrate:
This is GREAT they are finally speaking up.
It's about time.

But again, very similar to Murtha, I'd read very carefully tween the lines. These people WANT WAR. These people will do ANYTHING to keep this perpetual war going. Do not forget this.

They may want Rummy out - but not for an altruistic love of country. They WANT WAR. Period. These generals love Bush and his ilk. They love war. They get rich off of war.

Iraq down - on to the next one.....and then the next one......and the next....

So don't get too carried away with these 'great' men.

Kodiak said...

Murtha sold out the troops for a power position in the event the Democrats retake the house.

Your assumption that the Generals like war is in error and shows a great ignorance of the military.

nimlo said...

ccThese six generals have actually been involved in the Iraq War. They have first-hand knowledge of the problems. They have retired so they don't have to worry about reprisals, which we all know, bush is real good at. (General Shinseki anyone?) 75% of the generals in the military disapprove of Rummy, they just can't say while they are still serving. And for crying out loud, how can you see what is going on in Iraq and think he did a good job?

Kodiak said...

I am not his boss. He serves at the pleasure of the President. As I previously stated he has the full approval of the President. You do the math here. Who is the comander in chief?

You are not seeing everthing that is going on in Iraq if you get all of your news from MSM.

As I said before being a General is a political appointment. Just because these Generals served in Iraq does not mean they are right. The final decisions are made by the civilian leadership.

Has it occurred to you that maybe the reason why these Generals have retired they were not getting the job done or could not take the tough management style of Rumsfeld.

Victoria Taft said...

Threlfelt why do you hate bush so much? If you have time give me six reasons...not feelings.

The only military man that matters is Marine Cmdt. Mike Hagee.

Kodiak said...

Why just Mike Hagee's opinion. Could it be a service issue?

HEY STAY ON TOPICCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
Were talking about a librarian that reads concervative books not SOCIAIST MARXIST COMMUNIST DEMOCRAT
ANTI-AMERICAN DIFFENENTLY A SMALL MINORITY OF MISS GUIDED GENERALS.MAYBE THIS LIBRARIAN CAN CONVINCE AN AUTHOR TO WRITE BOOKS ON COMMUMISTS IN THE MILITARY, AND PUT THEM ON THE SHELVES AT OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY.

Apparently, all non-communist thought makes liberals feel unsafe. GOOD. Crawl back under your rocks, buttheads, and shiver yourselves to death. What a bunch of cowards!! If you can't compete in the arena of ideas, then you all qualify for the Darwin Awards. Maybe the Islamo-fascists will care about your idiotic "feelings." Sheesh. So much for fair and balanced, you hypocritical, lily-livered, dilettantes.

David Kupelian couldn't have paid for better publicity!

btw (since you wouldn't know because Victoria fails to mention) the article she quotes from her "news source" is Kupelian's own "news" website.

Said news story seems entirely based on a Cease and Desist sent on behalf of Mr. Savage, by ADF.

(hint - when Victoria claims to "rail against media bias," she forgets to leave out "only liberal" between against and media)

It is my hope that the American people begin to take a real look at the public school system including Universities, the left has made many a chess move through the public school system and it starts by indoctrinating your own children.

George Orwell is alive and well and running the Ohio State University HR Division.

Bear, You mentioned Murtha and you are right about him. Murtha was a Marine, but true Marines will not call him a former Marine, and some will refer to him as an ex-Marine. There is a very real difference. Ask any combat-proven Marine. I would call Murtha a white flag Marine, regardless of what the fruit salad he had on his chest may have shown. He is still a cut-and-runner, a white flag Marine.

ModerateLew said...

Scottiebill: Its obvious you are not a marine.

nimlo said...

Those who have never served their country a day I in their life are always the first to call those who do a cut-and-runner.

75% of the generals in the military disapprove of Rummy,

Source, please

they just can't say while they are still serving.

Then, how is it you know 75% don't support him?

nimlo said...

George W. Bush says that Rumsfeld's leadership is "exactly what is needed at this critical period." Once again, there's reality-denying going on at the White House. Certainly, if the president were to nudge Rummy out the door, it would reflect poorly upon the war, which is what's defining the Bush presidency at the moment. But if Bush were a commander in chief worth hailing, he would do more than merely issue spin. He would publicly invite the six generals to come to the Oval Office tomorrow--en masse--and, once they were gathered, say to the former brass, "Okay, what's your beef with Rumsfeld. Tell me all of it." And--here's the important part--Bush would listen carefully to the complaints. Only then would he render a decision, which he would explain in person to the media and the public--not via a written statement as he did.

Kodiak said...

The only person that Rumsfeld has to get approval from is the President. He does not need or require these Generals input. These individuals have an agenda that nodoubt includes the democrat'a cut and run version of defense.
As to the President calling these six in and listening to their so call already published complaints. Therefore there is no reason for the President to call them in and listen again and reender the same decision.

One final word on Don Rumsfeld (as posted center for security policy website):

As Franklin Delano Roosevelt famously - and persuasively - argued six decades ago, it is ill-advised to turn over the leadership of a war effort to new and untested leadership in the midst of a conflict.

ModerateLew said...

The distortion of intelligence in the buildup to the war, McNamara-like micromanagement that kept our forces from having enough resources to do the job, the failure to retain and reconstitute the Iraqi military in time to help quell civil disorder, the initial denial that an insurgency was the heart of the opposition to occupation, alienation of allies who could have helped in a more robust way to rebuild Iraq, and the continuing failure of the other agencies of our government to commit assets to the same degree as the Defense Department."

I agree with Chuck Hagel: The "Secretary Of Defense does not command the respect and confidence of our men and women in uniform"...

Kodiak said...

moderatelew,
I suggest you read an article published in the NYT by Michael Delong.

General DeLong was Second in Command at USA Central Command from 9/11 through the Iraq war. I believe his comments are more relevant that all Six of the Generals who want Rumsfeld's resignation.

As I have previously stated the position of Secretary of Defense is not a elected position by the members of DOD. It is an appointed position by the President. Rumsfeld has several times submitted his resignation to the President. The President has refused it every time.

I hear what you say and strongly disagree. Since I have been reading both sides my conclusion that trying to pin on on Rumsfeld is just another attack designed to hurt the President and weaken our defense, and cause us to lose the Iraq war.

nimlo said...

Civilians need to take note of what's going on here. What does it tell us that the military officers feel the need to speak openly to the American people about serious concerns in policy and administration? This in spite of a long heartfelt American tradition that the military serves its civilian masters (McArthur aside). One thing is that these generals know the course Bush is taking, that it is not known to Americans, that the Rubber Stamp Republican congress is incabable of exerting any form of effective oversite or checks and balances, and that they see themselves as the last defense America has to this path to disaster. Is anyone listening?

Fizziwigg said...

You're doing a heckuva job, Rummy!!!

Loyalingrate said...

Isn't it ironic that the President's father did almost everything right in the first Gulf War (built a stong coalition of supportive nations, included Muslim countries in the mix, went in with overwhelming force and crushed the respected, albeit overrated, Republican National Guard, and withdrew in an orderly and reasonable fashion)and then, proceeded to LOSE the election in '92?

His son, on the other hand, has done almost everything WRONG and yet, was re(s)elected in 2004! The parallels between Rumsfield and McNamara are too numerous to mention, but the result has been the same: catastrophe!

Lew, I'm not a Marine. I'm Navy, 6 years, 1953 to 1959. But I have a good friend who is a former Marine with two Vietnam tours. He is not a white flag Marine like Murtha.
