Want to have some fun with some of these new 'citizens?' Do what I just did.
My wife and I were just in a local store and there was a group of women loudly speaking to each other in Spanish. Even though my wife is of Mexican heritage herself, we see this as quite rude to be speaking in another language in such a way or to not attempt to learn English, if living here.
So, I dusted off my feeble aging brain and remembered a couple phrases of German I learned when stationed there back in the early 1970s. I spoke them out in an audible voice, but not yelling. I most likely would have embarrassed a real German with such poor pronunciation, but the group of Mexicans went instantly silent! In fact, they moved away from us.
As we walked through the store, everytime we came close to them I would speak out in my broken pitiful German and from the looks we received, the Mexican group did not seem to like it that they couldn't understand what I was saying. Too bad, I felt.
Oh, the German I used? "Entschuldigen Sie mich bitte & ein weinerschnitzel mit Pommes frites und einem großen Bier bitte." Translated means, "excuse me, please" and "one weinerschnitzel with french fries and a large beer, please."
I just love putting the shoe on the other foot at times.
How grown up of you, lew.
Backwards anon, I figured you would fail to appreciate it.
Please explain why it is proper to speak in Spanish amongst others, but not German.
My great-great-grandparents came to this country from Denmark. Determined to assimilate themselves and their children into American society, they struggled with English and tried to never speak Danish in front of their children and grandchildren. As a result, my mother grew up knowing that her grandparents knew another language, but never being allowed to learn any of it. As a result, that part of her heritage was lost. Ironically, one of the college requirements with which she eventually struggle most was the requirement that she learn a foreign language, something universities require as part of the broadening experience they try to provide for their students.
Please explain why it is proper to speak in Spanish amongst others, but not German.
Speak whatever you like. Did you forget you are in America?
No one is making you speak Spanish.
Your childish actions are astonishing. So much so, they don't justify the "facisit" label they deserve.
And I ask you - what exactly do you think you proved? (aside that you can act like a 2 year old)
he at least proved that it's really easy to entice you from under your rock, backwards. Happy Easter!
That's true..
Happy Easter all!
And I ask you - what exactly do you think you proved? (aside that you can act like a 2 year old)
Most 2 year olds can't even speak English, much less broken phrases of German.
However, since you ask, I proved nothing at all. I simply expressed a phrase or two poorly to my wife that some nearby people speaking in another language, and very loudly, apprently couldn't understand.
It seemed to bother them almost as much as it bothers you. Which made me ask you about there being no problem with immigrants speaking Spanish, but an American speaking even poor German apparently bothers you.
Most of us had ancestors that came here and struggled a lot to assimilate to America and learn to speak the prevelant language, English. In Germany, whenever I went outside of the Army areas, it was me that was expected to speak their language and follow their laws, not the other way around.
Please explain why me speaking a phrase or two of German in public is considered "facisit" (did you mean facist?)but immigrants, legal or illegal, speaking Spanish in public meets with your approval with no label attached.
Actually, I meant "fascist" - we're both wrong...I'm just not a nazi about it...
It seemed to bother them almost as much as it bothers you.
No lew, what bothers me is your attitude that motivated your actions.
Unlike you, I could care less whatever language others desire to speak, whether in public or private.
With your actions and thoughts considered, I'm assuming you would take the same issue with me and some of my white friends talking in Spanish to each other in a public setting?
For some reason, my reply didn't take, probably my fault. However, I'll try again.
Since you seem to know all about my attitude and motive, let me ask you, why should my wife, who is an American born of an Irish Mother and a Mexican Father in Kansas be looked down upon by immigrants coming here simply because she doesn't fluently speak Spanish to them?
You see, she has been scolded in my prescence by an immigrant waitress just last week for not speaking Spanish, even though she does speak some and understands even more.
Do you feel it proper for immigrant men to be standing in line at a restaurant making fun of and laughing at women, as two did just this last friday evening? They didn't see my wife behind them and spoke out fairly loudly laughing at others, assuming no one understands them.
As an American, why is it expected she speak Spanish and why does she have to endure being looked down upon by immigrants because she doesn't? We all have ancestors who came from elsewhere to give their families a better life here. Do all of us now have to speak the original language of our ancestor that first immigranted? If so, some of us will be in deep trouble having to learn several languages.
Show of hands: who among the commenters so far has watched this video? Get on it!
I am especially concerned about comments from elected local and state leaders. Makes one wonder where their true loyality is?
Kodiak: The state and local leader's loyalties lie with the illegals. After all, that is where a bunch of their next votes are going to come from, thanks to SecState Guillermo Bradbury.
Unfortunately you are right.
I have watched this video both here and in other places. It does tie into what I did Saturday, believe it or not.
The statements in the video and actions that my wife has endured over several years shows their is a building sub-culture that is gradually becoming a main culture, threatening to force Americanism into sub-culture status.
One point behind my speaking German to my wife within earshot of immigrants was to see their reaction and they did not like it. It leads me to believe they can understand English better than they let on and when someone else speaks in a language they can't understand, they are offended.
Just an observation.
And, I still await clarification from backwards anon as to why speaking German is fascist but speaking Spanish is acceptable.
why should my wife, who is an American born of an Irish Mother and a Mexican Father in Kansas be looked down upon by immigrants coming here simply because she doesn't fluently speak Spanish to them?
Wasn't your issue was others speaking a different language than English in public?
Do you feel it proper for immigrant men to be standing in line at a restaurant making fun of and laughing at women, as two did just this last friday evening?
Again, your issue was with others speaking a different language than English in public...how can I respond, or better yet, have you assume how I feel about both of these situations when you have not mentioned either in your rant?
As an American, why is it expected she speak Spanish and why does she have to endure being looked down upon by immigrants because she doesn't?
I suppose you should look for the answer within yourself, as you expect immigrants to endure you looking down on them for not speaking proper English within earshot of you.
Victoria, the following is from a blog (mrminority) I came across and is excellent:
"Thanks to "Jack Lewis" I have a new set of immigration laws that ought to be proposed in Congress.
Foreigners may not in any way participate in the political affairs of the country. This ban applies, among other things, to participation in demonstrations and the expression of opinions in public about domestic politics.
Equal employment rights are denied to immigrants, even legal ones, even those with green cards.
Only citizens may serve in the military as officers, on airline crews , and chiefs of seaports and airports.
Members of both houses of Congress as well as the Supreme Court must be a citizen by birth.
Immigrants — even legal ones — may not become members of the clergy.
Foreigners, legal or illegal, may not own land.
Any citizen may arrest illegal immigrants and their accomplices, turning them over without delay to the nearest authorities.
Foreigners, legal or otherwise, may be expelled for any reason and without due process.
Pretty hardcore, wouldn't you say? They are the immigration laws of MEXICO!! So where in the hell does Mexico's President Fox and cronies get off telling the US to lighten up our laws to allow millions of his people to enter this country? The Mexican Gov't, like Liberals, are in the "Do as I Say, Not as I Do" category of HYPOCRITES, and surely belong there. And I say someone in Congress, with the cojones, propose these laws, and then tell the American people where they came from. and I bet if you research the immigration laws of other countries, you will find them ALL tougher than America's. This issue is getting real gnarly with all the protests, anti-protests, fighting in Congress, and the American people getting fed up with people entering our country ILLEGALLY. Something needs to be done, and I hope/pray, that the RIGHT thing is going to be done."
I suppose you should look for the answer within yourself, as you expect immigrants to endure you looking down on them for not speaking proper English within earshot of you.
Once again, backwards anon, you make up what you wish for others.
I assume by all this that you cannot adequately explain why I am being fascist to speak a couple phrases of German, but you find it acceptable for others to invade our country and speak another language, loudly and brashly, by the way.
It goes back to the sub-culture I mentioned as well as statements within the video as to "reconquista," conquering the west coast for Mexico, but without firing a shot.
You see, the time I spent in Germany I was expected to be able to speak the native language once I stepped away from the Army areas. Liberals like you seem to feel it is our place to speak the native language of the invaders, which not all are here solely to earn a better living for their families.
It ties in with how my wife is treated by these invaders simply because she is of Mexican heritage, but is an American and embraces American culture, not Mexican.
Just so you know, I don't see them as "second class" as you seem to indicate. Rather, I see them as "invaders" coming here and not wanting any part of assimilating to our culture, but demanding we assimilate into theirs.
Ones that come here to become Americans, I fully support and have no problem with "broken English," and will go out of my way to help them learn English. Ones that come here to make this Northern Mexico and speak Spanish loudly and brashly, as if it were an "in your face" type speaking, can return the way they came, as far as I'm concerned.
I assume by all this that you cannot adequately explain why I am being fascist to speak a couple phrases of German, but you find it acceptable for others to invade our country and speak another language, loudly and brashly, by the way.
Wow, talk about making up what you wish for others...I labeled your inability to accept, and demand, that others speak in public (and private I "assume") the language you desire - not your obnoxious speaking of German (that was just childish).
Liberals like you seem to feel it is our place to speak the native language of the invaders..
The only one in our little disagreement here that feels a person should be forced to speak a certain language is you, my friend. No one is forcing anyone (or ever will) to speak Spanish...are you being serious when you make that statement?
..I fully support and have no problem with "broken English," and will go out of my way to help them learn English. Ones that come here to make this Northern Mexico and speak Spanish loudly and brashly, as if it were an "in your face" type speaking..
Since you can play the "my wife is Mexican, so I'm not racist" card (and I'm not calling you a racist, but the question may lead you to imply that I am) - I must ask, just how do you make this distinction? And is this limited to just Mexicans? What about Asian people? Or Germans? Or etc...
so how about the video anon spelled backwards?
Funny. I did the same when I heard a group of christians talking about the bible loudly in Tigard Cafe. They were clearly a bunch of conservative evangelical know-nothings, so I started reciting scriptures from the Quran and Buddhist Canon in a quite but loud enough voice. Needless to say they got real quite and ended up leaving the establishment. I have done this a few times since at other locals and it works like a charm every time. Several of my friends have tried it and received similar results.
Hey Botox Bimbo,
Why are you so worried about the video? Whats wrong is "American Culture" too weak to stand. This is a real test of Democracy. What would Tocqueville say????
Nice Honest Abe: Ad hominem, it becomes you. I also have been doing laser at the Waldorf Center and Medical Day Spa 503 646-0101. You might try it, you're looking a little red faced right now.
Botox Bimbo,
Was the question to hard for you to answer? You had to launch instead into an advertisement. Go figure. Has Slimfast contacted you yet? Maybe you should start selling matresses and Lazyboys as well?
(Me over here laughing)
Backwards anon, are you so dense that you missed where I have said people that come here to make their culture dominant over ours?
You can try to inject race all you wish, it ain't gonna work with me. My comments about my wife's heritage (she's an American, not a Mexican, my friend) is to show how these wonderful newcomers treat those who do not assimilate to their culture in our country. And here you liberals keep saying it us who mistreat them and look down our noses at them all the time.
But, since you can't seem to keep a thought straight, why not tell us all what you think about the onslaught and very real aspect of Aztlan? Or, view the video and make your liberal excuses for the comments stated.
lew, you keep talking but all we hear is "but, buuut heeee did it first..!"
Backwards anon, try sleeping it off. You'll feel better in the morning.
Not only have you failed to explain how I'm fascist for speaking a couple phrases of German in earshot of Mexicans, you can't, or won't, even mention any comments from the video.
Auf Wiedersehen entleert Kopf
lew, it's not your actions, but your views and attitude. No, the physical act alone of speaking some broken german in an obnoxious manner in public doesn't make you fascist. (eyes rolling)
As for the video - Atzlan has been around since 1969. Boy, they sure have made an impact in the last 37 years....
If you want to worry yourself, or give yourself a "reason" to act like you do, I guess the "threat" of Atzlan is as good a reason as any.
btw, I'll admonish Honest Abe for the same crime if he did indeed do as he laid out in his post...(sigh)
lew:
I've followed this discussion for a good many days, and I would offer this summary:
First, of Atzlan, I take them somewhat lessseriously than I take the French who want to reinstate the Bourbon monarchy as the absolute rulers of France -- and, yes, there are a few people in France who believe the nation would be better off if some distant descendant of Louis XIV were given not merely control but aboslute power in France, but I think they have trouble even taking themselves seriously.
Secondly, you seem very proud of yourself that you made some people whose first language was apparently Spanish uncomfortable when you came across them speaking Spanish in a grocery store by speaking in German. So you made them feel uncomfortable. Question: why is that something that you feel proud about?
A good sized portion of our citizenry has a long history of not taking things seriously.
The rumblings of the war in Europe in the 1930s that led up to WW2 and Islamic terrorism in the early 1970s and 1980s that eventually grew into 9/11 are just 2 examples of "not taking things seriously" that should have been.
Where will "reconquista" lead as it gradually grows?
How's your spanish
Hey, Lew, Backwards anonymous, his name chosen to reflect his convoluted thinking, has the wrong-headed idea that if one does not speak either English or the Mexican dialect of Spanish, then one has not the right to speak at all. My neighborhood has a number of families of Ukranians, who are here legally, by the way, who speak their language wherever they are primarily because they are still trying to learn English (NOT MEX-SPANISH, although theyprobably should, the way things are going these days. According to Backward Anonymous, they shuld remain silent because they do not speak English or Mex-Span. Typical liberal Dumocrat nonsense.
Sorry about the misspelling of "should" in the previous comment. I missed it in my review of the blog. Note, though, that I deliberately misspelled "Democrat".
According to Backward Anonymous, they shuld remain silent because they do not speak English or Mex-Span.
scottie, you attribute to me what is lew's position. Try reading through these posts again.
(lew said) "Ones that come here to make this Northern Mexico and speak Spanish loudly and brashly, as if it were an "in your face" type speaking, can return the way they came, as far as I'm concerned."
I have no problem whatever language others in America would like to speak, at any time, any where, or however loud they wish.
suomynona,
Funny that would be OK with you. Is it your desire to see the United States be broken up? There has to be comon threads holding everyone together a common language is one of those threads.
Immigrants coming here from Europe that did not speak english specifically learned because they wanted to become part of the America.
A lot of the immigrants from Latin America do not wish to become part of America they want to take over or do not want to assimulate into our socitity.
Funny that would be OK with you. Is it your desire to see the United States be broken up?
You've created your own trivia. Name one country that has been broken up, specifically because there is more than one language spoken amongst it's citizens or anyone else residing within?
Immigrants coming here from Europe that did not speak english specifically learned because they wanted to become part of the America.
You can't make up history to support your arguments. I'm sure there were a lot of immigrants to America that did make all efforts to learn English to be productive in their new county. But, there were just as many that came here, and did just fine never learning it at all.
This is honestly starting to sound a lot like the whole "Merry Christmas" vs. "Happy Holidays" BS. If it offends you that someone else is speaking a different language, great. But no one is making you speak it, or ever will. Yet, you would demand that English be the only language spoken, and that it is the only "correct" one - and if people were forced to speak English and nothing else, your praise would be none higher.
Cripes, what's next - take away everyone's birthday because they didn't celebrate yours?
suomynona,
No
Examine the bandwith of information on this subject.
There are groupd whose policies and members intend on taking over at the very least the southwest part of the US. Maybe you are ok with this maybe not you should be aware of it.
I personnally am not bothered by people speaking another language as long as they can speak english. I was commented on those who refuse to learn the language.
Ya better celebrate my birthday or else!
There are groupd whose policies and members intend on taking over at the very least the southwest part of the US. Maybe you are ok with this maybe not you should be aware of it.
Right, and no I'm not ok with that. But there's also large groups of "European" people who want slavery to return to the states, and the South to again rise and succeed from the union.
Shall I now suspect that anyone who is white and driving a 4x4 is probably part of this group that just refuses there not be free black people?
suomynona,
I'd suppose that there are men who wish women were never given the right to vote much less anything else and would like to reverse it.
So tell me what that has to do with the subject of a bunch of illegal immigrants come and take over.
Nothing!
So how is your spanish. You'll need it if they succeed.
So tell me what that has to do with the subject of a bunch of illegal immigrants come and take over.
Because as lew so graciously demonstrated - it's not a big effort to take any two people speaking Spanish in public and turn them into the "militant Mexicans" who are trying to "take over America."
Once you've concluded they are such, what actions against them will be "ok" in your mind?
And I don't know much Spanish, nor will I ever have to learn. Did you survive that big Y2K disaster? And did you get enough plastic and duct tape to get you through the big anthrax attack? (eyes rolling, again)
Not that you lefties would care because you haven't bothered to view the video [you know the one this post is about], but the man who put it together will be on the show Friday, April 21st at 8:05.
Victoria
Victoria,
I have seen teh video. However, I have to conclude that there will be never enough evidence to convince people on the left that there is a problem and they are part of it.
Not that you lefties would care because you haven't bothered to view the video
I love it when Victoria makes up her own facts.
(btw, that would mean that this "lefty" has watched the video)
...since we're off topic anyhow - How's that Google boycott going Victoria?
Alta Vista is great. How's your job going?
My job is fantastic, thanks for asking.
Funny, I thought you were against Google in your calls they provided a "lefty" bias search engine, but seems you still support Google and thus everything they stand for (using your logic here)...
Guess it's just the Google "search?"
