PORTLAND: THE 1% SOLUTION

Portland suggests businesses should pay more and YOU should pay a 1% income tax for schools. Read it in my previous post.
Check out the Portland Business Alliance 2005 report on the city overspending and by extension making Portland a less affordable place to be. And Portland is one of the least affordable in housing, here.
Portland should NOT raise taxes for schools–for anything–until the schols perform these changes.

JAMES RISEN’S SOURCES: HOW GOOD ARE THEY?

Find out for yourself in the latest from Tom Joscelyn of the Weekly Standard. Risen’s depended on them before…and has been the purveyor of DISINFORMATION before.

  • According to media critic Mark Finkelstein, “time and again, Risen defended his sources as having the ‘purest’ and ‘best’ motives, springing entirely from their concern for the rule of law.”
But if history is any indication, Risen should be a bit more skeptical of his sources and their motives, in general.
  • As has been pointed out previously (see articles in THE DAILY STANDARD
here and here), Risen’s sources led him astray regarding the interrogation of senior al Qaeda operative Abu Zubaydah. Risen’s anonymous sources told him that Zubaydah had denied that Saddam and al Qaeda were working together and he reported this bogus account (“Threats and Responses: C.I.A.; Captives Deny Qaeda Worked With Baghdad”) in the New York Times on June 9, 2003.
“Several [anonymous] officials,” told Risen that a transcript of Zubaydah’s interrogation was circulated “within the American intelligence community last year . . . his statements were not included in public discussions by administration officials about the evidence concerning Iraq-Qaeda ties.”

Their Solution for Schools: 1% INCOME TAX on PORTLAND!!!!

  1. This just in from Dave Lister who knows folks in the big confab today looking at ways to feather the nests of the educrats at the school system instead of educating our kids. Their answer increasing the business income tax…AND…wait for it:

A 1% INCOME TAX ON ALL RESIDENTS OF PORTLAND.

This after the city just gave $200,000 to the hippies at Tryon Creek
This after the metro just gave those same hippies $300,000
This after the schools had to pay off Steve Goldschmidt to the tune of $600,000
This after the schools refuse to close even MORE schools due to diminishing numbers of students
This after the city paid off protesters to the tune of $300,000 for getting pepper sprayed after they refused to get out of the street and impeding law abiding citizens
This after they oversaw tax abatements to wealthy Pearl District (and other) districts
This after building a tram for OHSU–against the wishes of the citizenry which has zoomed up from $15 million to $45 million
This after the water bureau pissed away two computer systems
This after the city has proposed taxing real estate purchases to give to the poor
This after the city has proposed taxing the internet and cell phone
  2. Expansion of the convention center and moving forward for plans for hotel

Got anymore? Here’s where some more of it is going.
